I went there for lunch without booking and they told me it was fully reserved so they gave me a spot for dinner, on the same day. When I reached they welcomed me directly with my name and leaded me to my table. It felt as if I was an old acquaintance. The whole staff was very kind and available, leaving some jokes and interesting facts to entertain the guests. The food, as they described on their small booklet (which is given to take home) is traditional as their grandma would do it. It was very hearty, perfect for a cold winter weather. Before serving the dishes they gave a homemade bread with bacon bits topped with sour cream, accompanied by a small plate with different forms of their special paprika (to add) and a basket of sliced bread. Overall I had a pleasant evening, and I felt the Hungarian hospitality that they wanted to transmit. Very appreciated was the music played. Highly recommended restaurant.

Incredible Hungarian experience! The most friendliest staff who spoke great English and so accommodating. Live musician playing such lovely music. The food was DIVINE! I can't say any negative points. Reservations is a must, lots of people turned away this evening because it was fully booked. One of the best places I've ever had dinner. Thank you for a wonderful night. Goulash to share, with accompanying bread. Hungarian crepe filled with chicken for main and side of beetroot and cinnamon apple pie for dessert - incredible and so delicious! What an experience. Partner had goulash, beef stew with dumplings and apricot cottage cheese cake for dessert. Both with a latte and Americano.

Don’t know where to start… this place is just amazing… has everything for a restaurant to be 10 out of 10. Service is outstanding, they even have a little leaflet introducing all the team, with basics things about Hungarian language and a recipe of Goulash. Atmosphere is 🤩🤩, indicates you that you are in a Hungarian restaurant with a very nice decoration. The food was excellent, we ordered Goulash which was really tasty, well done and cooked. I ordered pork with bacon and dumplings and I wouldn’t mind eating that for the rest of my life. The sauce was perfect for the pork, dumplings were an excellent side dish… my partner had some beef with onion and fries, which were nicely cooked and did a 10/10 dish as well. We were very full but we didn’t want to not eat dessert which was a recommendation by our waitress, and it was perfect too, not too sweet as we like, and very light after being so full up. We just feel sad as we aren’t from here and don’t know if we will ever come back, but for sure we will recommend this place to everyone coming here.

The location was very cozy and the atmosphere was chill with some pleasant live music in the background. The food was typical and quite good. At the beginning they offer you a little bread with garlic cream, which was nice. We then had langos and pancakes stuffed with paprika chicken as appetizers and duck leg and beef stew as main courses. The appetizers were very good, I personally didn't like the duck that much, but it was my first time eating it and I think in general it is not a meat I can like very much. The stew was good but slightly dry. We finished with two desserts, a chocolate cake with cherries and a wet sponge cake with walnuts, raisins, chocolate and cream. I must say very tasty indeed. At the end we were offered a typical house alcohol, very kind of them. The service was quite fast despite the fact that the place was full, plus the waitress was very attentive and made sure after each course that everything was to our liking, very kind indeed. Prices slightly above average but would definitely recommend it. Overall it was a pleasant experience and I would go back if I visited the city again in the future.

Second best place for me where to eat traditional Hungarian food in Budapest. Nice atmosphere, vibe and obviously. starting from the nice appetizer, pork with dumplings. Gnocchi and tomato as a main accompanied by cold mixed pickles. To finish with a super apple pie in custard sauce a must try because different from all the others apple pie! The service is the 15% on top of of the bill ( normal in Budapest )but it is very worth it as the team is professional. Complimentary we have been served some soft bread with sour cream cheese and once we asked for the bill they also offered for free a shot of Palinka, traditional alcoholic beverage. Highly recommend it!!

Wish I could give more than 5 star. Delighted with the service and staff behaviour. Best place to have authentic Hungarian food. Roasted duck leg with Braised purple cabbage is ultimate. We were so full, we had no space left for desert. Best part is how the staff treat and manage the kids. They know how to engage kids with some activities. So that we could enjoy our lunch to fullest. Must try Hungarian restaurant near Parliament / Near Basilica.

Randomly stumbled upon this restaurant and saw the reviews. We got there 5 minutes before opening and already saw a short line of people waiting and luckily were able to get a table. The traditional Hungarian food was delicious and beautifully presented! The staff were all extremely nice and welcoming which hasn't been the case for most of Budapest. I would say this restaurant is a MUST for anyone who is looking for traditional Hungarian food!

It is a very popular place, make sure you book a table on the official website before your visit. I booked a table for my husband’s birthday ages ago. It didn’t disappoint us. The service was very good, the food was the best we had in Budapest, and the whole atmosphere was great. Highly recommended. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

So so so good!! I Love this place - we've been here 6 times since 2015 and will definitely return. Excellent service, food is consistently delicious (would lick the plate if that was socially acceptable), staff is so friendly and knowledgeable and the atmosphere is always great. The chocolate cake is SO LIGHT! My Hungarian mum was so impressed, would definitely recommend it to anyone - just make sure you book in advance

Great little bistro serving delicious Hungarian food. I visited this place by chance; I just saw a “fully booked” sign on the street and a small group of people waiting outside. I took it as a good sign and was right. The service was extra friendly and informative, and the food was flavorful and in my opinion - authentic. All guests are treated with a complimentary amuse-bouche before the meal and a shot of Pálinka after. A complimentary glass of water is also a nice touch because Hungarian food can be salty and spicy. I am planning to come back to Hungarikum again for more tasty food!

This is a Hungarian traditional restaurant with very good food made from fresh, local products. It is very nice that together with the menu you get a tablet where you can see pictures with the dishes. This helps you to get an idea about what you are ordering. The restaurant is always full and it's best to make a reservation to make sure that you will get a table. The waiters are super nice and friendly. It has tables only inside and they have air conditioning.

Good place for first time tourists (as ourselves) to get a taste of Hungarian food. Have good menu with most known Hungarian dishes. The service is good, waiters command several languages, clean. Food quality is good. Prices are of a touristic place.

All ordered menus(Set menu, sour cabbage roll) were all good. Bread, paprika sauce, last digestive liquor were nice too. Servers are always welcoming guests with smile. 15% of service fee are included but they were deserved.

What a superb little authentic Hungarian restaurant. The owner Susan was very accommodating to find my girlfriend and I a table (although I would strongly recommend booking ahead, we got very luck!!!). She has a picture of her puppy Hungarian Vizsla on the wall and we were quickly swapping stories about our Viz puppy. This was our last meal in Budapest and talk about finishing on a high note!! The food was absolutely fantastic. Every. Single. Dish. The staff were so welcoming and it felt you were part of one big family in there. Our waitress was so accommodating and recommended her favourite dishes and my word, she had good taste!! My girlfriend doesn't eat red meat so we couldn't share the pork knuckle.... But I went and ordered it anyway!! So glad I did and the staff boxed up what I didn't eat for me to treat myself to later. I would recommend this little gem to anyone and was one of the highlights on our trip to the lovely Budapest. Thank you to the lovely ladies and kitchen staff at this beautiful restaurant.

Really loved this! We got in for lunch without a reservation, felt very welcome. We ordered a Hungarian cheese platter and Goulash Soup. Both were so nice! Our waitress (a small blonde girl, don't know her name) was so kind and explained the menu very well. Also, the wine was really good. Would definitely come back here.

What a great way to start the Budapest trip. The goulash was stunning and so was the pork loin. However, the apple pie really did stand out to me as the most memorable of the lunch. You have to try it!

I really recommend you book as it's busy but it's absolutely worth your while! Food is really delicious and they give you some nice bread and dip to start and some traditional Palinka when you get your bill. The staff are fantastic and very attentive. They also had a musician playing which created a relaxed atmosphere.

A MUST VISIT RESTAURANT IN BUDAPEST! We stayed here for five days and this is definitely the best Hungarian restaurant among all that we’ve tried. From the starter to the main course and dessert, all the food is heavenly tasty and the service is so good with all the warm staff here. Highly recommended.

The best Hungarian food I’ve had in my 2 months of living in Budapest. Reservation is necessary and we were very lucky to secure a seat. Staff was one of the best I’ve ever seen in a restaurant. Music was nice and added to the traditional atmosphere. Food was delicious and cooked from recipes past down within families. A must go to when in Budapest and it couldn’t be in a better location.

An amazing place for authentic Hungarian food! The staff is very friendly and speaks a lot of languages. The food is really delicious and made from traditional recipes. Don‘t forget to try the little sip of Palinka at the end of the meal ;) This place is booked out pretty frequently, so its best to give a quick call or make an online-reservation.

TRADITION AT THE TABLE!! a stone's throw from the Parliament of Hungary ..Here you enter the house of a good Hungarian housewife, busy preparing the best dishes. The environment is very welcoming, familiar, red checkered tablecloths, typical of a traditional tavern, exhibition of kitchen utensils and preserves. I am not joking when I say that it seems to have been invited to lunch by a Hungarian family, dishes offered on the menu do not betray this feeling. All strictly traditional, all strictly Hungarian. The recipes are not revisited, they are not integrated, they are not innovative. The dish is the TYPICAL one, as has been done for generations. Beautiful welcome of the staff all nice and friendly.

Nice restaurant with good atmosphere, live music and great service. They give you this tablet to view pictures of all the dishes in the menu which is convenient. One thing i didn't like is they don't have steak knifes. You have to cut beef with basically a butter knife

Fantastic experience of authentic Hungarian cuisine. The waitresses were very helpful and helped understand the menu. The bread and spicy sauce was a great freebie, along with the drink at the end to aid food digestion (which certainly helped!). Very reasonably priced in a central location near the houses of parliament. Definitely worth a visit provided they have availability

If you only have the chance to have one meal in Budapest it MUST be here! The food is soulful, fresh and well seasoned, absolutely delicious (I’ve been here twice, both times I’ve ordered different dishes: they never disappointed). The atmosphere is warm and cozy with Hungarian music playing (a relief from the American radio we’ve heard everywhere), tables are well spaced so it never gets too loud. And if this wasn’t enough our waitress Adri was this smiling energetic bundle of joy. She created a quick rapport/relationship with us that made the service so much special. A simple home feel restaurant that won my heart in Budapest :) I will be back. Ps. Book with at least a week in advance.

Once again I assured myself that this restaurant is something special! Definitely you have to make a reservation in advance cause the restaurant is very busy and they had to say no to a few guest as they were fully booked. 🫣 Food is exceptional so was the service! Thank you once again for a wonderful evening! 🤩We’ll be coming back.

We ended up stumbling across this place on the way to the parliament building and we are so glad we did as it was brilliant. Service was faultless, and the food was delicious. Upon arrival we got these tasty little bread bites, fresh bread and a lovely paprika spread we liked so much we ended up buying. They offer traditional Hungarian dishes, all of which the ones we tried were fantastic. At the end of the meal we were offered a palinka shot which is not for the faint hearted. Would definitely recommend a visit. We were quite lucky they had a spare table for walk in but it was otherwise fully booked so would suggest booking in advance to avoid any disappointment.

You need to book a table in advance, unless you are super lucky, you won't be able to get a table as walk-in. They are so popular for Hungarian food, and you won't be disappointed. All the staff there were so friendly, they kept checking how you were and how food was, offered to take pics for you, some of them could speak more than 2 languages. They literally made you feel like eating at home. They have all dishes pictured on tablet, so you would know exactly what you got. Everything we got were delicious, but I have to spot out the apple pie with vanilla sauce, it was so good, and very interesting taste, I don't think I have ever had similar desserts before. Highly recommend. It's a must try.

This place had the friendliest servers and the most delicious dishes. We were a little intimated with Hungarian food but with the large menu we were very impressed with all of the 4-5 dishes we ordered, both meat and vegetarian dishes. Locals as well as tourists in this place. Would recommend making reservations. Also the live music was a plus!

Very nice place to taste a hungarian cusine. Great meals, friendly staff, pretty waitress (greetings for Bogi🙂), palinka at the end... What else... Additionally - tablets with pictures of meals is good and comfortable help for customers. And life music - cimbalist as additional part of dinner. Bistro is dog friendly - fresh water and blanket!

Very very good food. Delicious goulash, pork knuckle melting in the mouth, stuffed cabbage with amazing cabbage, goulash soup extremely delicate and aromatic, amazing duck and full of aroma wine. And live music... I definitely recommend this place on the map of Budapest. You just need to remember to make reservations in advance.

First place we tried when we arrived in Budapest. Without reservation they seated us after 20 minutes. Food was delicious and so was wine. We really enjoyed dining here. All the girls here were smiling and service was great. And the cucumber salad just reminded me my childhood! Thanks a lot ♥

What can be better? Food is good but for this price really small porcions. Also price is more expensive because you have to pay food and drink service charge. I was there with my hungarian family and this food is really good for tourist because they don't know how tastes really good hungarian food but for them it wasn't something special. Next time we will visit some local hungarian pub and we think we get better taste, portions and 3 times cheaper dinner. Its up to all of you guys:) Its not worth that excelent review,s just good food with a really nice servis but really expensive and portions like in michelin star restarant (extremely small).

(Translated by Google) We had read about this place and the reviews intrigued us, so we decided to go in person. As soon as you arrive you will find a cozy and characteristic place with its red and white checked tablecloths, as well as the curtains on the windows, and wood around it. The staff were very kind and warm. Menu also in Italian and on a tablet you can see photos of the dishes ... wonderful! And so ... let's eat! Very good goulash soup (tried in other places in Budapest but for us this is the best), savory pancake with grated cheese and garlic sour cream really special and not as heavy as you might think, beef stew with homegrown dumplings and as a dessert ... an apple and cinnamon pie with vanilla cream and a sponge cake with raisins, nuts, vanilla cream, dark chocolate sauce and whipped cream! House wine, excellent! And finally ... Palinka (typical liqueur) with plum offered by the owner. And last but not least, strictly live typical music. A must try!

There were 7 of us and we all ate the 3 course menu which is very inexpensive at just under 22 €. The food was very good, but the last bit of wow was missing to be able to award the fifth star. Just had a wonderful lunch here. Upon arrival my server informed me that their goal was to offer traditional Hungarian food in the best possible way. Did they ever! I started with a baked sausage, then the cucumber salad. Both were great. Then came the stuffed cabbage. I have been wanting to try this Hungarian dish since I have been here but this was my first opportunity. It was worth the wait. And quite fitting for my low carb diet, unlike the fresh bread they brought out. However, the highlight of the restaurant is that every person that I interacted with had one goal in mind: to make my visit enjoyable. They nailed it! Pretty sure I will be back here again before I leave.

12/10 recommend this place!!! Service. Food. Music. Atmosphere. Everything!!!! We found this spot randomly and we’re so happy we were so lucky we got to eat there as it was a full house right after we sat down! Couldn’t recommend this place more. You need to try the goulash!!!

  • 5/5 Víctor R. 2 years ago on Google
Traditional Hungarian food. Excellent and warm welcoming service. The make you feel home and the food is really authentic. Quality, quantity, price is great. Live traditional music but relaxed, ambience type of music played by a sympathetic old man. Quite central and not too small. I recommend to book in advance though. Take a look at the photos, better than me talking.

Great free small starter and free palinka shot in the end of the diner. Recommend highly the goulash soup, pancake chicken paprika sauce! I like the lemonade. I see they do serve tap water. Very hard to book table. the place is very tiny so you need to prebool in advance. Maybe come at around 6pm cause I notice some got in without reservations by that time.

A homey restaurant serving traditional Hungarian food. The service was attentive and pleasant and the food was delicious! The goulash soup was superb - rich, flavourful broth with tender little meat chunks. The pork loin I had was perfectly seasoned and juicy, and served with a delicious side of nokedli with paprika sauce! The portions are a little smaller than other restaurants for the price, but the on point taste I think makes up for that. Definitely make reservations beforehand as they were fully booked on a Friday and Saturday for lunch and dinner service (they turned away any walk-ins).

Very kind staff and cozy place. Food is really good - typical hungarian as you'd get "at (a Hungariab) home", including the desserts. They have a nice booklet with some Hungarian words, some explanations and pictures of the staff with their name. Very nice touch, only curious to see all helping/service staff are women and all chefs are men. Another very sweet and nice touch is that they asked where am I from and they selected in a tablet a pdf with pictures and the titles of the menu in my native language. They had in several and the "normal/physical menu" is in Hungarian and English (no pictures). Very nice experience!! I would defenitely recommend a stop during your visit to Budapest!

Food is amazing with big portions and great quality ! Staff is very friendly and welcoming + super fast service. Definitely recommend trying the spicy tomato sauce they offer together with bread. The goulash is a must try. Duck also is very good and soft. At the end they offer you the hungarian palinca;) Restaurant opens at 18 , we arrived at 18.04 and it was already full so best to book before ;)

This is an amazing restaurant. The food is amazing, homemade and really delicious. The service is the best thing about the restaurant, they are so nice, welcoming and kind. If I could give a higher rating I would. Make sure to come here if you come to Budapest, make a reservation first. Great and heartwarming experience overall!

Traditional Hungarian food. Extremely friendly serving staff. They described the menu (available in English) and also gave us a small tablet to scroll through a photo of each dish as on the menu. This made it so easy to choose. Best to book as always fully booked. Would have wanted to go for dinner but was fully booked, so instead went for lunch the next day. We both had the Crispy duck leg with onion potatoes and braised cabbage (our rating: 9/10) Recommend the Dreher draught beer and old fashioned lemonade. For dessert we had the Cinnamon Flavoured Apple pie with vanilla sauce (custard). Pity the sauce was not served warm, maybe different tradition (our rating: 6.5 /10) and the Dark chocolate cake with sour Cherry Sauce (our rating: 7/10) The restaurant offers a pre meal free taster consisting of Homemade bread with bacon and onion bits topped with sour cream, as well as a small portion of special paprika dip (hot) and fresh sliced bread. We were given a small booklet as a keepsake consisting of a Hungarian goulash recipe and other information. Highly recommended and booking is a must for both lunch or dinner. Two Americano coffee followed. Total price for 2 was 15232 Ft around €21.55 per person incl. of 12% service charge.

Great place to discover the Hungarian food ! Prices are above average, but the restaurant has many advantages : - The dishes offered are varied and are (important point) all typical ! - The menu is available in English, but they also offer you a tablet that presents all the dishes in a lot of languages with photos. - The waitresses are extremely friendly. - The atmosphere is appreciable, thanks in particular to a musician playing a Hungarian instrument (whose name I no longer remember) Just remember to book in advance ! (almost mandatory to hope for a place)

Visited here on holiday and was blown away. Staff were fantastic, went above and beyond even going as far as to give us recommendations of places to visit. Food was incredible, had the goulash, duck with braised cabbage, and beef tenderloin. All very fairly priced (surprisingly cheap for what it was!!) had live music on from lovely Yguri which really set the atmosphere. Cannot recommend enough

Overall great experience; the staff were friendly and spoke great English. Recommended some dishes to try. The digital menu with photos carried by the waitresses were nice; gives you an idea of what you are ordering. Food was tasty, homely and large portions. Atmosphere was great with live music and cosy place. It gets busy fast; we were lucky as we did not book and were able to get two spaces as they opened up. Tip: I would suggest making a reservation if you are coming here to avoid delays. I would recommend to others for sure if they want to experience authentic Hungarian food in one place.

So glad we booked to go here! Our first time in Budapest and our first time eating Hungarian food and we couldn’t have chosen a better place. Booking is essential- as lots of walk ins were getting turned away. Service was so friendly- we were made to feel so welcome! Food was delicious, we had: Goulash soup Sausage & mustard Pork with garlic and fried potatoes Beef stew with dumplings Sliced cucumber Hungarian style with garlic sour cream. 10/10 recommend!

Dining in this restaurant exceeded my expectations. The soups were delicious and packed with flavor, the main course, the portions were generous, leaving me fully satisfied after every bite. What pleasantly surprised me was their practice of offering complimentary appetizers and palinka, which not only whetted my appetite but also showcased their commitment to providing an exceptional dining experience. And, during whole evening the musician was playing cymbal! I highly recommend this restaurant for its delectable food, generous portions, and outstanding staff.

From the service, food and atmosphere everything was perfect. We would definitely stop by if we are in Budapest again. Highly recommend it to everyone. But it's better to book a table at least some time in advance.

This was by far the best restaurant in Budapest during our stay! We hadn’t booked and it was fully booked. The waiter called us back as we were walking away and said that if we waited, a table would come available soon. He kindly offered us drinks outside whilst we were waiting. We we sat in a window table and the setting in the restaurant was chilled and relaxed. Food was excellent and we had the set menu, which we would highly recommend! The goulash soup was as traditional as they come and the crispy duck cooked to perfection! The Apple and cinnamon pie to finish off was one of the best I’ve had. Our waitress was very knowledgeable, friendly and looked after us! There was live music which we especially liked on a piano (cimbalom) the guy was quirky and friendly too! Overall, a fantastic evening and we are so glad we got in. If you are thinking of going, make sure you book first to avoid disappointment

I would like to give 5+ stars to our server Eszter, who was so professional, pleasant and helpful. When we originally ordered both Goulash and beef stew, Eszter told us that these two dishes tasted very similar to each other so we just had beef stew, and we really appreciate her kind suggestion. She also brought us additional bread which was fresh and soft, and tasted wonderfully with their homemade chilli sauce. The food itself was good, nothing spectacular. Very busy restaurant so reservation is highly recommended unless you don’t mind waiting for 30+ mins. They do charge 15% service charge on their bill which may not be a common thing in Budapest. Overall, I would still recommend this restaurant.

We loved this restaurant and completely appreciate this family owned and operated bistro. 1st when we arrived, the sign outside said they were full. However, they managed to find us a table and we were so happy they did. Our entire experience was so wonderful, we were greeted by all the staff as we were guided to our table and our server was super helpful and noted we were vegetarian as we ordered. We often find it difficult to be able to enjoy traditional dishes, as the majority are meat based. But here we had the green pea soup, which was delicious and hot. For our meals, I had the mushroom and dumplings, and my sister had the gnocchi with tomatoes and zucchini. They were both delicious, and we left stuffed. Another thing that was special to us was the Amuse-bouche to start and the 3 spicy condiments that were a delight for us to enjoy because we love spicy foods and this was a great accompaniment to each dish we ate. A wonderful lunch spot we happened upon down a side street in the heart of the city. We highly recommend this place and will return on our next visit to Budapest.

Highly recommend eating here, great homemade Hungarian food served by friendly staff in a nice atmosphere with live music. This restaurant is always fully booked, so remember to book a table some time in advance. I had the gulasj soup followed by stew with dumplings. Extremely good, would give more stars if possible! 🤗🤩👍

Traditional food in the cutest of restaurants. Lucky us who showed up without a reservation to fill a table that canceled last minute. Food, service, and ambiance and wonderful here. The live music was perfection. Go, go, go...but, do make reservation! This spot is popular and once you dine here, you'll understand why.

What an absolutely charming restaurant! Their mission to make you feel like home is definitely mission accomplished! They are so friendly and the food is oh so good! It actually tastes like home made food! We lucked out and they were able to seat our family and we are so glad! My son said the chicken was the best he’s ever had. The Hungarians tea was fabulous and the duck leg was succulent! We also got a sample of bacon sour cream bread that was to die for! Everything was delicious!! Thank you so much!!

Great location and good food. A bit aimed towards tourists but that is to be expected. A little on the pricy side (for Hungarian standards) aswell but it came with a free little starter, some bread and an after meal shot. Service very good, our server spoke several languages and was very friendly, although a bit too much for my liking…

Since you enter your feet in the restaurant you receive a welcome feeling, make you feel like home. Excellent service explaining you all the dishes with professionalism. The place inside is very cozy and warm. All tables were reserved so you must book early in advance specially in holidays. All plates were amazing, from the starters to the amazing goulash soup that I could eat everyday and Main courses pork with bacon and stuffed cabbage. High recommend this place !
