Well, disappointing experience. The building and the hall itself is fantastic - a gorgeous memento of the old architectural talent and creativity. The food, the coffee and the service is overrated. The coffee, we had 2 cappuccinos, were both quite cold and the taste was a bit better than from a vending machine. The cake, we had the Banana flavored hazelnut „stone”, tasted very good - that's why the 1 star! The serving is retro - if you want to put it nicely - or rather reflects the feeling and style of the 80's in Hungary. Only 2 pieces of porcelain was from the same producer! All the plates, the coffee cups are heavy, nothing special white porcelain. The furniture and the whole ambient is like what they could find at a garage sale of an outdated hotel. The staff are nice young people, quite disciplined, but lack personality, emotions and kindness. Maybe the best if you grab your coffee at a fast food place nearby and just wonder in to be amazed by the building itself. Oh, and for all that experience I 've paid a lot - service included. Shame.

This cafe is probably on most tourists hit list l first visited here around 30 years ago when it hadn't been renovated and the cakes were around £0.50 each! At the time it wasn't very touristy and I loved its faded grandeur and the attentive service. The place is stunning but it now appears to suffer from over tourism. The food and service are nothing special and it is very pricey compared to similar venues. That said it is still worth a visit in order to admire a very opulent cafe from another age but you may be better off eating and drinking elsewhere.

Beautiful place. Definitely worth a visit at least to drink a cup of coffee. They had live music, a violinist, it was great. We ordered some food for lunch and everything was delicious. The best for me was the duck with the cherry sauce. It is quiet expensive but the place is absolutely beautiful. Great service. Usually you have to wait 15-20 minutes if you do not have a reservation.

I have had nothing but fantastic experiences with this place! I had a reservation made for Wednesday evening. We were attended to on the spot by an over-sympathetic waitress. We ordered gazpacho, goulash for the first course, Viennese schnitzel and duck for the second, and lemonade to drink. The food was fantastic. The soups were delicious and quickly served, as was the second course. The schnitzel was amazing, the duck melting in the mouth. Plus fantastic service and the atmosphere of the place (beautifully decorated, a musician played live piano). The sum for the dinner came out quite large, but it was definitely worth it.

The place creates a very nice atmosphere as the architecture of the building is remarkable. Went there for a private event, and the conference rooms are spacious, the staff was very helpful as well. Unfortunately, the food was very simple and the portions very small, with no vegetarian options offered rather than rice and potatoes.. Prices are super high for a glass of wine, but the service was fine. Not planning to go there to spend a fortune for a lunch anytime soon..

The main hall looks elegant and great for pictures, that would be the case if you are lucky enough to be seated there. For us that wasn’t the case the only decor that we could see from the small room they place us is the coffee machine and the coat rack making us feel isolated and second class. The menu unnecessarily expressive with a hot chocolate worthing almost €13. Overall overrated doesn’t worth the long waiting line in the cold. SAVE YOUR MONEY TOURISTS!!!

As other reviews have noted... This is the epitome of a tourist trap. Terrible service and they should be embarrassed by the food they serve. This establishment lures you in with their pretty building and then charges you ridiculous prices. 23 euros for pasta, please compare to the picture on the menu. And 26 euros for the pork dish. Again please compare to the picture on the menu. Scam

The Cafe lives up to its expectations. The decor if fabulous and the atmosphere is lively. The staff is very friendly and food is delicious. Plus the live orchestra made the experience even better. Keep in mind though that the experience is not inexpensive. For comparison, you can get a Coffee for €10. Also, table reservation is highly recommended, as there was a queue to visit without reservation. Overall, worth the experience.

So how do I start, it’s definitely worth visiting but just to see the cafe. If you don’t have a reservation they will make you sit in the end of the place where neither the servers are interested to serve, the end side barely feels like the part of the cafe. They have already made a name so even if people Read negative reviews they would still go. The food is okay you can get better quality and taste in other restaurants as well. No doubt the interior is beautiful but only the roof interior. I would suggest just go there take one picture and come back. Beacuse they know we are tourists and do not care. We were made to sit in the end and had to request the server to take the order. Also they aren’t the most beautiful cafe I personally cannot say this because we were made to sit somewhere away from everything where we barely could see any part of the cafe. So it’s a good marketing strategy to attract customers. I would recommended that make a reservation prior and tell them that the table should be in between the busy area and not some ending side which doesn’t feel like the part of the cafe

It was hard for me to gave them one star. It's definitely a worst experience I had in Budapest. More than that, you can call it: tourist trap! We paid extra 15% to have the waiter looking at us with anger, and also waiting too much. Thanks for the EXCELLENT service and I'll never recommend …… Oh, lets not forget the prices, not at all cheap. Very nice interior, beautiful place that's why I gave them one star.

It’s more restaurant than cafe. Prices are high. There is a live music. It’s very beautiful inside. 4 because: - in the menu it was written that main courses are from 11 but they refused to get order until 12 - the coffee was almost cold when I get it - cheesecake was average taste

The place was stunning and fancy, it feels like taking breakfast in a palace. About the food (we had breakfast so we don’t know about the dinner), I’d say is overrated, we took pancakes and French toast but nothing amazing. For drinks we ordered Hungarian coffee, definitely different mix of flavors, interesting drink. Service was regular in comparison with other places which people were so friendly and warm. We spent about 50€ for 2 people. Summary, nice place but only for maybe taking coffee or tea.

Do not recommend!!! 1)Stuff is rude, and not well taught ! Waiters, please learn English🤬 We’ve been waiting for our burger and beer for more than 1 hour!!! Waiter forgot about our order(( i’ve asked about discount or compliment from restaurant, but waiter even didn’t even respond!!! Because he wasn’t taught customer service and didn’t know even a few words in English to reply!!! 🙊 2) menu is terrible, i wanted to order pasta, but there wasn’t written ingredients(( 🤬their currency exchange is 300HUF per 1€, so please pay in HUF👍🏻 To sum up, it is not worth visiting and waiting 1 hour in queue 🙌🏻 👌🏻

This gorgeous restaurant will either draw you in because it's touristy and pretty and everyone goes there, or not entice you because it's touristy, pretty and everyone goes there. I am so glad I went there, because while it may be a little touristy and kitchy, it was also a great experience. The food was good, service good too, and the atmosphere was great. They play mini concerts on the staircase with violins and beautiful music. They also have the most beautiful - and opulent - decor. There's a big and varied menu and it makes choosing hard. I had a burger and fries and a chocolate sponge cake and hot chocolate which were all so indulgent, but I was on vacation, so I didn't care. Is it worth coming to? Yes. It's touristy and crowded, but it's busy for a reason. It's something different to your everyday dining, so it's definitely worth visiting. It's a bit overpriced, but then again, I expected that, so I wasn't disappointed. I'm so glad I came here and recommend it a lot.

They make you wait +15 min despite many tables being empty to seem exclusive. Our group of 6 was not allowed to sit at the same table because of their very strict floor plan which only allows 4 per table. No tap water. A bottle of standard water costs 10€/3000fr. Ineffective waiters, poor service in general. However the place looks really nice.

You get real Royal ambience in this cafeteria with splendid heritage look decor & equally fresco paintings at the roof ceiling. In addition the live Piano presentation adds a distinct Royal flavour. Extremely busy cafeteria & during the weekends you need to stand in queue for at least half an hour to get a table unless you have done advance reservation. Excellent food - Hungarian Coffee simply adds wow to the breakfast spread.

This was the most beautiful cafe experience so far! Breathtaking interior! Live music almost nonstop! Must visit place when you are in Budapest! Menu has choice of dishes and set options for two persons. I recommend to book the table in advance, as it is very popular place! Food was tasty and service very friendly! And cappuccino was with the best interior view!

I can understand why many people put negative opinions on this. But if you want to have a good time in an amazing building, this is a must see. We had a private concert of the orchestra, super friendly people. The staff was good as: they do the job on their on tempo. The prices are a bit insane, 8,5 euros for a latte. But you know you pay for the place. It was a good coffee. We also shared some dessert, they were very good. So you can decide on your own if you want to have a amazing time staring at the ceiling and feel a bit of the magic (there were so many cosy corners, lights, a Xmas three) with your favourite company or choosing something else for half of the price in another building. For me it is a one time moment but I really enjoyed it.

Visited this viral location and had a pleasant experience! We just went for drinks and cakes, although expensive, were still good. The interior is stunning and obviously the main reason why people go. Service is okay but fast so not much to fault them on. I’d recommend if you are willing to pay £/€15 for a drink or cake but it’s not really a must visit for Budapest in my opinion, as there are more interesting spots.

The atmosphere is so elegant and sophisticated with mesmerizing interior. The cafe serves a wide variety of Hungerian and international dishes. Must-visit for tourists. Tips: 1. Make a reservation, specially if you are visiting peak season. 2. Allow plenty of time to explore the interior and enjoy the ambience.

Tasteful delicacies, first class service, art, decor, live classical music. Surely an amazing ambiance. Hence, never ending lines, super expensive menu, very very touristic spot. So, if you want to enjoy this place, pick a time that is not super crowded, reserve in advance, and politely ask the waiter what would be recommended at good value. A must in Budapest. Don’t forget to wander to around 😀

We had afternoon tea here this afternoon-very disappointing. For 60 euros for 2, I expected service-not to be. We waited 10 minutes before anyone arrived to take our order. I have had numerous afternoon teas, including five star hotels in London and this felt short of expectations. We asked for hot water to enable us to top up our tea to be told we required to order another tea. The ladies toilets had an overflowing bin and toilet paper strewn all over the floor. I would recommend you spend your money elsewhere.

Gorgeous place for enjoy the a breakfast or tea time. The food is quite common and overpriced but is acceptable because your bill are paid for the environment but not the food. The place is a tourist attraction in Budapest, others than early morning, it is always a lot of people. It’s better to book early before. The breakfast buffet availability is determine by the hotel guest they have so it’s not 100% available for external guest.

Lovely building, but shocking service. Forgot about our table, staff where hopeless, standing around not talking any notice, then when I got up and spoke to one after more then 40 + minutes of waiting the drinks (a simple beer and small cocktail) took another 40 minutes. Additionally the staff seamed a little short tempered. Looks beautiful but most roadside cafe's are better for a drink

We visited the cafe - worth the wait in the line. I suggest to pick a time in-between usual meal times I guess :) No reservations (except dinner), have to wait in the line, but for ~5EUR you can get in a fast track inside the cafe (check it out, if interested to skip the wait) The breakfast set was very tasty! Prices are a little high, but decent, considering the demand. The interior is spectacular, live classical music creates that special something in the atmosphere which completes the magical experience. Stuff looked a little overwhelmed but overall friendly and polite.

We can’t deny that this cafe is really beautiful! Interior was majestic, gorgeous and magnificent! From the artistic sculptures inside to the colours and also the layout. Such an elegant place to dine in. They have a long queue for Breakfast and Lunch (though they have a fast line where you can pay in addition to your bill). They have a booking system for dinner. The cafe is easily accessible. We were able to grab a table between 11-12 and unfortunately, they don’t serve breakfast menu or lunch menu at that time so we had to order a dessert and drinks. They also have elegant music (piano and orchestra band (violin, base violin and cimbalom) which is really relaxing, Jolly and lively. Of course, lots of people will be there so expect a crowded cafe. Just be aware of the surroundings, especially with the staff as it can hinder their job if people crowd over a certain area. I had a good lemonade and an apple pie vanilla mousse with whipped cream. It was good!

Good famous cafe in Budapest. Delicious cakes , nostalgic overwhelming imperial architecture . You can feel and smell the old royal old times . Be part of it . Dive into history of Austria and Hungary . And touch it, enjoy it, love it, live it. In the footsteps of Sissi. Enter and follow the dreams of yesterday, the grand nation of Hungary. Expensive but very tasty meals. Always full of people. Hotel guests are guaranteed to get a seat and a table. Priority privilege like a royal majesty.

Auf deutsch weiter unten. The Cafe New York in Budapest is located in an extraordinary building. If you are in Budapest you have to go there. It is worth spending almost 10 € for a coffee, with gold dust about 12 €, just to have a look inside the building and to sit there an drink something. We went there for lunch and had something to eat. The prices are of course relatively expensive. Starters from about 10 €, main courses from about 25 €. Unfortunately I have to say that the food was only ok. My roasted duck was a little bit cooled down when it was served and the Wiener Schnitzel was ok. With such prices you can expect more quality. Also the service was only ok. When our drinks were empty I would have expected the service to ask if we would like to drink something more. This is probably because the cafe is more a tourist attraction rather than a restaurant. But I tend to go there for dinner next time to give Cafe New York another chance.

We visited two nights back in April 2019. The atmosphere in here is like the Ritz in London. You can expect the same service too! We went on two separate occasions. Once for lunch. The other for dinner. It’s quite pricey for what you get for instance the breakfast tower below was 19,500 in their 💰 But, if you want to treat yourself to a good meal with music played from the balcony all day, morning and evening then this ones for you. You can go eat and pretend your a king or a queen for a day. It really is beautiful from the decor to the food. I haven’t found anything like it since. And, for a treat (expensive at that) I’d still recommend it at least to try. YOU MUST BOOK.

Skip it. If you would like to see the beautiful interior, and listen to some live piano or classical music, then go for a drink or just to have coffee. For that it’s a fine experience, if you are okay with paying a lot. The cheesecake had clumps of uncooked gelatin in it - for me, as a diner, that’s gross, and as a chef, horrifying. The strudel was tough. The pasta had way too much sauce. For these prices, they can do so much better.

You are paying for the atmosphere, that's worth it, the rest not so much. The cheesecake had lumps of gelatin in it, the pasta seemed microwaved and the strudel was tough to slice. Overall I would only come here to listen to the live music, enjoy the scenery and have a mimosa. Other than that, there's better and more affordable places in Budapest.

Breathtaking interior and live music, stylish waiters: altogether gives you atmosphere of posh place. Over the high prices are part of this attraction I believe. say bye to 100 euro for the light lunch (salads, beverages and desserts) for two. The food is good, service is accurate. We went with the intention of just walking around to take photos. Got in the Que, waited less than 5 minutes and we were seated. And honestly, we left very happy and quite full. We got plenty of grand pictures and enjoyed the complete experience. The waitstaff was good and the food was also very good. So many complaints, but I just didn’t see why - we had a very good experience and would definitely recommend it.

It is a must place to visit in Budapest. Most of the times you need to wait on the line in order to get in. Inside the decoration and vibes are so beautiful and calm. It is a perfect place to go for an afternoon dessert with a drink. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The prices are a little bit of expensive for no reason. The mango cheesecake wasn’t bad but nothing so special. There is a relaxing music and the cafe are huge but always fully.

Sure, it’s pretty. That’s about it. The servers are bigger stuck ups than … well we all know who the biggest stuck ups in the world are. Sat here for about an hour ( no exaggeration ). The servers saw me politely put up my hand and smile. Multiple of them. Multiple times. Literally ignored me and looked away. Writing this review as I still wait for them to come and take my order. Will post updates on the food when ( and if ) they take my order. Having said. I’d still recommend coming in and checking the place out. It’s air conditioned. So if you’re trying to chill out a bit and escape the heat or need to use the washroom. Come in. They don’t mind at all 😉 because you’ll be invisible. UPDATE: okay the food is pretty good. Gave it one more star.

A well-known cafe in the Budapest area, that is famous for its interior decorations. The food is ok, the portion is not that big. The drinks menu is also good. However, the main reason people come to visit this place is the interior decoration which is absolutely amazing. Feels like being in a castle or a luxurious mansion 😎👏.

    1. Food is really bad. It’s not just overpriced, it’s BAD. I tried duck liver pate and mushroom pasta, both worse than the instant ramen I make at home. 2. Is it really beautiful? It’s indeed well decorated, with fancy ceiling paintings. But most basilicas have way better decorations. So, what do you get out of this place? If you want cool photos, go to basilicas. If you want food, you can make better meals yourself. If you just want a fancy place to sit in, maybe give it a try.

The architectural design of the building is truly remarkable. However, regrettably, we encountered significant issues with the service provided. Despite observing vacant tables through the window, we were compelled to endure a rain-soaked wait of approximately 45 minutes. The staff exhibited a lack of proactivity in managing the queues efficiently. Regarding the food, it can be described as average, although we recognize that part of the cost is attributed to the overall experience. Upon being seated, we were disappointed to find that no high chair was provided for our 1-year-old child, necessitating our own search for one. Unfortunately, the high chair we found was unclean, but we took it upon ourselves to sanitize it. While the initial server was commendable, there were errors made in taking our orders. Moreover, the staff member who handled our bill expressed disapproval when we requested to pay in cash, subsequently leaving to attend to another matter without acknowledging or thanking us. Upon returning, she counted the money in front of us before departing without any further interaction. This lack of acknowledgment or gratitude, coupled with the exorbitant prices paid for the food, left us feeling deeply dissatisfied with the overall service. Despite the undeniable appeal of the building, which we were eagerly anticipating, our experience left us feeling unwelcome and disheartened.

They describe themselves as the most beautiful cafe in the world and I think that this description is pretty accurate. It was fabulous. My wife and I enjoyed a fabulous meal with great service and the cafe is out of this world. While such venues can be expensive we did not feel that it was outrageous when considering the location. We had to queue for about 25mins as we had not made a reservation, but the staff did their best to accommodate everyone as quickly as they could. This is somewhere that you have to visit if you are in Budapest.

First time visiting, was a pleasant experience. There was a queue upon entering which did get filtered out dependent on a reservation. We were offered the choice seating close to the entrance which was available or waiting which could be up to an hour if we preferred elsewhere without a booking. The staff was friendly, I myself had gold carat hot chocolate and chocolate cheesecake which was good. The hot chocolate was probably the best I've ever had. Great architecture photos and videos were allowed provided it didn't disturb or interfere with other guests. Only went in for dessert but the pricing was fair. It was not a long wait for our choices of order. And after finishing we weren't rushed out.

The interior is undeniably stunning, and the food was delicious. However, we were disappointed by unfriendly staff and a significant delay in taking and delivering our orders. Bear in mind that there is a 'fast pass' option to skip the line, which costs €5. It's a worthwhile choice to avoid waiting in the cold for hours, especially when there is available space inside. Additionally, a tip: don't take the first table they show you, especially if it's next to the kitchen door.

Whilst set in a stunning building, the service was extremely slow and unwelcoming. Over 20 minutes to wait for drinks, 40 minutes for just one portion of bread to arrive and 75 minutes for our food to arrive. We did get an apology from one member of staff who offered us some complimentary Prosecco however this didn’t take away the fact we were fed up of waiting for just a main course. Sitting by a staff door propped open with a bin was not the best view, neither was the sound of staff shouting at each other with glass and crockery breaking behind the door. Stunning building from the outside, very nice in certain parts in the inside but painfully slow service.

The cafe is delightful, antique and beautiful. The food and drinks or desserts are just normal, I guess people pay only to experience the interior and take some photos, honest requests to management, please spend more thought on the food, it will help. When there is a slogan that "world's best cafe" it comes with a lot of responsibility. I really enjoyed the interior and service, just not happy with the desserts and rate( of course, worth the hype)

New York Café is a must if you are in Budapest. The location itself is amazing, so beautiful (see photos), food is good although nothing special. If you are hotel client you will always have a table reserved, but don't worry about it, the cafe is really big. When I went there was a man playing the piano, and I loved it!! You cannot miss it!!

The most beautiful coffee house in the world! Indeed it lives up to it’s name. We went for coffee and cake and everything was amazing. The cakes are the most superior quality, coffee is very good and the ambiance is decadent. Must try at least once. But be careful, it’s not a cheap place.

Luxury and beautiful atmosphere. I am not usually so much into this kind of place but it is a must see if you are in Budapest. I enjoyed it, food was good, very pricey but good quality. The staff was very professional and nice. And what a pleasure to drink your coffee while admiring such authentic and abundant interior decoration.

Beautiful cafe with 2-3 times higher prices than other locations that offer a comparable food and drinks quality. The coffee was very good and the cheese cake was very juicy and tasty. However, it was served with a decoration made of chocolate and home-made apricot jam. The chocolate was very hard, almost unsweetened, and difficult to eat. If you try to break a piece off with your fork, it will likely jump of your plate. The home-made apricot jam was not good at all. It had a slimy texture and a sour taste with virtually no other aroma. If you just eat the cake and ignore the chocolate and jam, it is fine. But that’s not what I would expect from such a high class cafe.

Even Fyodor Chaliapin has been here and left a note in the guest book. The cafe is located in the most majestic and incredibly beautiful New York palota, located on Erzhebet Boulevard. The building was designed by architects Giegl Alajos, Hauszmann Alajos and Korb Flóris for the New York Insurance Company in 1894. It was here that a cafe opened, which made this place famous throughout Europe. According to legend, on this day, journalist Ferenc Molnar threw the keys into the river so that the doors of the cafe were always open to visitors. Indeed, the building, built in the Renaissance style, amazed with its decoration: beautiful panels by Gustav Mannheimer and Ferenc Eisenhatt, a fountain at the entrance, Venetian glass lamps, silk and velvet surrounds visitors, marble and bronze dazzle with their splendor. From the very beginning of the 20th century, life here was in full swing: all outstanding personalities gathered in the cafe, it was possible to find out news from all over the world, because thanks to the owner, those who wished could find more than a hundred newspapers and magazines from around the world. Today, the building houses the Boscolo New York Palace Hotel suite.

Incredible decor! How it has survived over several decades in different guises is testament to the pride of the local people. Jaw-droppingly, spectacular! Prices reflect the cost of upkeep - £18 for 2 Hungarian coffee's (Dec 2019). The coffee was smooth with an edge (the local spirit adding the extra dimension), the decor and ambiance fulfilled the afternoons decadence. If you wish to spoil yourself and your loved one this experience will take some beating. Romantic, opulent, serene. If you're lucky you'll beat the queues; we were seated within a minute of arrival. We were also lucky to experience the live classical music but I believe they're not always in attendance. I can't wait to return.

There were a lot of people in cafe, when we came, but a table for us was found in about 20 minutes We've ordered apple pie and somloi galuska. Portions are big and nourishing, we even didn't manage to eat all of it. Their motto is the most beautiful cafe in the world. It may be that in fact. The cafe looks amazing the ambient with live music from the piano or the band is amazing. But it has a bad side or sides in this case. Me and my girlfriend ordered a latte macchiato and a hot chocolate with whipped cream and a strudel to share. It took 40 minutes for us to receive the strudel and another 10 for the drinks. It was an awfully long wait. The strudel with apple had to much cinnamon on it that we barely touched it. The one with the lemon cheesecake was delicious. In terms of price prepare yourselves because you pay the "most beautiful cafe" for these 3 things we paid 10695 HUF more or less 30 euros.

Beautiful music and one of the most amazing interiors i have seen. Service should be better though. 15% tip included and probably therefore there is no big service effort from their side. This review started off with 5 star because of the interior design however the quality of food, service is a 1 star. Our dessert came …. Then we waited 15 minutes for our tea which when it arrived there was barely ANY water in it. (Uploaded picture for proof). The price is also not worth it which is a shame…. It’s such a beautiful cafe. This is a honest review. I’d just come here to take a look… but I wouldn’t recommend eating here.

The building, decoration and paintings are stunning. Agreeable place, live music on the piano. However, it's overpriced. Also I have to say, the tables with large photos of food don't match the rest of the environment at all. Is it just a detail? Definitely yes. But still caught my attention.

What a beautiful building inside and outside! We were seated after waiting 10 minutes. While waiting, we took pictures and listened to the live music. Excellent service. Our waiter was attentive and helpful to make selections. The "somlói galuska" is very good. The hot chocolate was very rich and sweet for me, so maybe the smaller size would be a better choice. This was a memorable experience for us.

Too overpriced! You might say the prices are justified by the "beautiful" location but I believe paying 10 euros for one small cup of Tiramisu is still quite questionable. The service was okay but the waiters seemed kind of unfriendly. All in all, definitely not worth the price. I'd rather recommend going to the various other cafes in Budapest!

Place itself is beautiful, great architecture and paintings. Unfortunately coffee and deserts were not as good as you expect it to be in that kind of place. Everything was too sweet. This is pretty ok for a one time experience, I was thrilled with the environment, a vast cafe menu and a proper brunch. Service was a little slow although place was not as busy. I absolutely loved it here. What's not to love with the opulence and violin performances while you dine? The menu is varied and inexpensive, from sumptuous coffees to deliciously naughty cakes and sorbets, to palatial afternoon teas or a hearty meal. The service is at a moderate pace, not slow but definitely not rushed either, and the waiters are a visual delight by themselves. If you're in Budapest, you should definitely give this place a go!

New York cafe is an excellent place in the heart of Budapest. The price is higher than the usual, and the food didn’t meet the expectations, but it was relevantly easy to get a table even though it was packed. Beautiful architecture and if you go, do check the inner courtyard from the hotel, really worth it. We arrived to find a huge line outside. They offer you a 5€ per person “priority” la e and you can cut your waiting time. If you can, make a reservation. The menu is available online and worth checking ahead of time. The building itself is indeed gorgeous and well maintained. Italian Renaissance style, marbled columns rise to meet ceiling frescoes and crystal chandeliers. The food is underwhelming and completely overpriced. You cannot even get a bottle of “tap” water on the house. And it is way too crowded. The fact that people come and only use this place for “insta pics” makes the atmosphere a bit laughable and less enjoyable. Prep yourself to see all kinds of outfits and party makeup

Well, one of the prettiest cafes in the world I guess. The place is truly amazing, like a palace, very nice and beautiful. However, you need patience when you visit without reservation, queue can be long doesn’t matter which day, and which time you come. It’s always full, so better do your reservation first. Some staff are polite and some feel like they own the place 🤣 but it wasn’t that bad. The food is amazing and tasty though the price is way above average for Budapest but that’s understandable because of the place. It’s a great experience anyway.

Service is far too long. I could watch waiters discussing while I was waiting for my order There is a queue, but a lot of empty tables. For such a high price, it should be perfect. The history of the place is not enough to make a true experience. However, the drinks were delicious. Hopefully.

First, you need to be ready to pay $15 for a coffee. Otherwise, the palace is one of a kind. The food and dessert look great and taste good and they are in the reasonable range of price. Overall expect to wait In line to enter, but since it is a large place, it is dynamic and moving and also worth the wait.

We went just for the experience and prefer a coffee. For 6€ we were treated well since we only ordered an espresso: they gave us warm milk, our espresso and a miniature cookie but giving were you are is more then I expected. It’s very busy so be ready to wait in the line (but it is fast). Our waiter was not very nice but the other members of the staff were. The space is amazing and we also were lucky enough to experience a little concert.

The location is in an easily accessible place, and the interior is truly luxurious and must be seen - the atmosphere captivates you instantly. It's a very touristy destination, with many people, and you may have to wait in line to find a seat. The service was pleasant, but I am definitely not impressed, neither by the coffee nor the Eggs Benedict we had (I would even say they are some of the least tasty eggs I've ever tried).

The location is EXTRAORDINARY. It's a place where you go for the moment. I'm not a coffee lover so I can't give my opinion about it. The cakes instead were something special. The music, the location, everything is superlative... The person who served us was not very kind. If you pass through Budapest, you must also check this place

Fabulous place, kind waitress and good service overall. We ordered two Italian breakfast but the coffee was not the best and the pastry was kind of hard and dry. The cheesecake was good. I gave 4 stars because of the taste of the coffee. I was hoping for something better, however maybe the 24 karat gold cappuccino tastes better, but that has different price.

Amazing place with decent food. The banana stone and the sorbet were fantastic. The decor is spectacular and for those interested in a few photos they seem happy for patrons to wander around snapping pics.

It's a gorgeous place for sure. Unfortunately, we couldn't try it out. We didn't make a reservation. We were only in the neighborhood and just stopped by. We were a group of 10 people, waited in line for about 15 minutes when we were informed by the hostess that will be a long wait, they can't seat us at one table, we have to be divided to smaller groups, but they can't guarantee that we will be seated close to each other or to be seated the same time. We understood and decided not to wait. At least got a sneak peak inside.

This is a beautifully ornate cafe with some pretty delicious food and drink options. The interior is designed in such a lavishly ornate way that can be appreciated by art lovers and architects alike. The wait for a table was long but not intolerable. We went around 2:30 and waited for about 30 minutes or so. We had desserts and cocktails which were tasty and beautifully presented. The only complaint I have was the service - it was quite poor. Our server took a long time to come to the table, even though the floor seemed to be well staffed. She was quite unfriendly and made us feel like we were an annoyance.

The place is gorgeous and the waiters have really high standards. It's worth a single occasion to experience the beauty and elegance of it but the prices are 4-5 times of an already good coffee, so I cannot recommend to return for a second time. Also, if you're planning to visit, calculate with a 30-60 minute queue or check the business of the place in this app. (You can't reserve a table unless you're coming for a dinner after 6pm)

One of the nicest historical interiors you will see in Budapest. The rest is forgettable. The food is expensive and the quality would be below par for 1/3 of the price too, let alone what they actually charge for it. The staff are a bunch of emotionless zombies, bar some of them who actually seem keen on being kind. Again, the building is beautiful both inside and out, it's worth a visit. Plan your meal meal for somewhere else, though.

Overrated to say the least , but great interior and decor. Definitely a stop for the instagram. Great plus from the live music. Starts at 10am, and you can enjoy it every hour. Note the service charge on your restaurant bill. Poor service from the cashier.

Despite the overpriced drinks you have to pay a visit to the Cafe, such is the remarkable decore of this historic grand building. Don’t be off put by the long queues as the turn around was fairly quick, especially if it’s just two of you. Staff were friendly and in no rush to move you on once you had finished. Live music (piano and violin) created a lovely atmosphere

Incredible place to enjoy an amazing breakfast with live piano music and beautiful ambience. We had the Italian breakfast- totally worth it even though it was quite expensive. Better be there early so u don’t have to wait the queue.

There is a nice place and so aesthetic, but have to wait a long queue even though we went early. Prices are more expensive than other Budapest restaurants. Desserts are tasty. Tiramisu creamy. The most important thing is atmosphere is really classy.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at New York Cafe in Budapest, and it was nothing short of a sensational experience. From the delectable food to the exquisite wine selection, every aspect of my visit was a delight. The culinary offerings were truly outstanding—each dish was a masterpiece, perfectly crafted to tantalize the taste buds. The wine selection complemented the meal flawlessly, adding an extra layer of sophistication to the dining experience. What makes New York Cafe truly unique is the live music that envelops the space. The talented artists, with their piano and violin performances, add a touch of magic to the ambiance. It's more than just a place to eat; it's an immersive experience where the artists engage with the patrons, making the entire evening feel like a celebration of art and gastronomy. Without a doubt, New York Cafe has earned its place as one of my favorite dining spots. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking not just a meal but an unforgettable journey into the world of culinary excellence and artistic ambiance. I look forward to returning anytime, it's an experience I wouldn't want to miss.

New York cafe was recommended to us by a friend. We queued for over 1 hour to get in as we couldn't make a reservation (you can only reserve after 6pm). When we eventually got in, the place was beautiful and there was live music playing. The prices are high (cappuccino for 12 euro) so we did not get a full lunch. Instead we got the Franz Joseph experience for two which included 2 goulash, 2 hot drinks, and small desserts and cost 67 euro. The drinks were brought out first and only after 10 minutes the rest followed which was a little annoying because by the time the rest came out your hot drink is either cold if you waited or you've drank and now don't have anything to drink with your desserts. The goulash was delicious, the cakes were nice but the drinks were only ok. I had a cappuccino and my partner had a hot chocolate which ended up only drinking half of. Also just a heads up if you're going, there will be a lot of people out and about taking photographs of the decor/with the decor while you're eating. It was cool to go for an experience but now that we've been once I don't see us going there again.

It’s a beautiful place but sadly, the service was absolutely not good. They served me spaghetti without a spoon. I asked for spoon and took a long time to give me. It is a cafe with a very beautiful ceiling/soffit. No acoustic hence is a noisy place. Food is so so. I think can be missed. There are many beautiful cafe in the world.

We went to this cafe to celebrate our friend‘s birthday. Their live music was amazing. One of the violinist came to our table to play happy birthday song. Even thought line was long, we got on pretty quick. Everything we ordered was delicious. The New York cocktail was very good. Service is little slow but we had a great time.

Long waiting lines to get in. The service: slow but very friendly. Most people spoke English. The desert came right away, but the water and the coffee took very long. The desert: was good, fruity. We ordered a crepe with fruity filling. The coffee was GREAT, the hot chocolate was incredible. Would recommend an and we will come back. The music was splendid.

Atmosphere: superb, the decor and stucco ceilings are amazing. The tables are poor. Service: friendly and polite but slow Food: good but unremarkable. Everything is very sweet. Value/money: poor Other: the incredible queue for a table take away a lot of the experience.

Ambiance is nice but desserts taste less than average with high prices. Waiter charged 3 Euro more than the bill although service fee was included. He flew to a distant table quickly and had no intention to give the change. I was in hurry so I could not ask him, but I did not like his behaviour. It’s a total tourist trap!
