The rooms are nice and clean and the breakfast or dinner buffet with a great selection of food. When we arrived and we wanted to use the spa and pools, they had no bathrobes at all, even though they were included, so we had to take a long walk between the hotels (inside), with a towel around. They said we will get some the next day but it happened only the third day, by 8am, even if we asked to not be disturbed until 10am. The spa area was not that nice, more like a treatment place for elderly. After 10pm the bars are closed, so if you forget to get a water for the night, there is nothing to do.

It is a nice hotel and not the first time we went here, but definitely the last time. Unfortunately my parents had money stolen from their wallet from the room when their room was cleaned. The cleaning staff seemed a bit too eager to clean the rooms as they would knock and enter the room at 7-8 in the morning without waiting for a response (happened to both us and my sister’s room). We thought that we miss-calculated and brought less money and waited to get back home to check and be sure of the unfortunate event, but sadly it was true. We reported this to the hotel afterwards but to be honest they did not seem too surprised and nothing much was done. This is quite a shame as the hotel is pretty nice, but having the cleaning staff going through your things and stealing money is a huge downturn and underlines big problems with the hotel.

Beautiful old hotel with access to the adjacent health spa included. However, the breakfast (15 Euro per Person) consists of a buffet we didn’t enjoy at all (dry fruit, cold sausages). Ordering an omelette we got scrambled eggs with some cheese on top (see picture)… The adjacent health spa also is in dire need of maintenance. The steam room is out of order, one roof part is damaged and the pool underneath closed. On the pool boarders thick residues have built up. Please also be aware that the rooms are not well isolated. We were everyday woken by the alarm of our adjacent room. All together we’d not recommend this hotel as you can get better value for price elsewhere in Budapest.

Too crowded. The thermal pool is over full and basically dominated by the children's noise and nobody from the service controls them. The location is very far from the city and the service provided by the hotels are very poor in terms of customer attention. If you want a coffee at breakfast you need to follow a long queue to the coffee machines that are always busy. The personnel are very rude and not professional at all. They don't pay any attention to the service quality. All in all, as cheap as the service it provides. If you expect a four star superior level don't get here.

Unmatched service! Four-Star service that will immediately put your mind at ease. The Grand Margaret Island Health Spa Hotel is sure to please the mind, body and soul. The elegant fin-de-siècle architecture of the hotel and the panoramic view overlooking the Danube and the mature trees of Margaret Island will simply take your breath away.

I opt for this hotel here in Budapest if I'm coming here for a business week. It is far enough from the city to avoid traffic in the morning while still in a great distance within the city to allow for a night out. One of the highlights of this place is the location, I open the day with run around the island. Beautiful view and an awesome way to open the day, during the cold winter days you can opt for a decent gym indoors.

Hotellin sisustyyli vanhanaikaista ja hotelli kaipaisi remontointia. Pyyhkeet olivat kuluneet ja reikaiset samoin huneen verhoissa reikiä. Käytävällä katto vuotoa. Aamiainen oli hyvä! Hotellin sijainti syrjäinen.

After entering the Room, we were met wit a Scene without a Towels and without a Bathrobes! OK, it happens...But after going to the Reception, follows an unpleasant answer from Receptionist, that the Hotel is not able to deliver Towels and Bathrobes in the Room, that the Manager is out of the Hotel , on his Vacation ( In peak of the New Yaer season) and at the END HE SAID to US: " NOW OUR PROBLEM IS YOUR PROBLEM" We were stunned by the Unprofessionality and Rudeness of STAFF regarding to the Welcome of Ensana Grand Hotel. Our New Year Happiness and Enjoyment has been forgotten! We were left disappointed !

Stayed here for 5 nights and had a lovely stay despite a few problems. We stayed in a twin plus room which was spacious and had tea/coffee making facilities (although these weren't topped up after the first day and no milk for the tea either which was disappointing). We requested some fresh milk and had to pay for this. The room had a fridge within a cupboard but this seemed to get very hot on the outside. The breakfast each day was buffet style with plenty of choice. Gluten free bread can be requested also. The spa and pools are in the sister hotel but can be reached by an underground tunnel which you quickly get used to. The thermal pools and facilities were brilliant, very clean and made for a relaxing day. There is a small outdoor pool with a sun lounger area which is very nice too. The hotels are located at one end of the island. You can easily walk around the island or take the number 26 bus outside the hotel grounds. These run very regularly. We had dinner in the Thermal hotel one of our evenings as our hotel had no facilities open. The dinner was buffet style and cost 26 euros not including drinks. There was a good choice and the food seemed of good quality. Unfortunately for us it was let down by a near major incident due to a nut allergy whereby they hadn't labelled the ice creams. We had thought the green ice cream was mint whereas it was pistachio. Thankfully it was spotted before being eaten. The duty manager that evening unfortunately didn't take the matter seriously and for that reason would probably not eat in the restaurant if visiting again. It was very disappointing to say the least as it is a serious matter and one to consider if you have any allergies. We were offered complimentary coffee and cake but unfortunately had a flight to catch so could not use them. Overall the hotel was lovely and very accessible to the Budapest attractions.

Margitsziget is a beautiful island. We were there with a small kid, and was great to have the park just outside the door for walks. City is in walking distance if you like long walks, otherwise Bicycle, taxi or bus. Rooms are big with nice bathrooms, but furniture is sparse so felt like sitting in an empty space. No mini bar, limited room service. The place is worn down, and common areas + bar was disappointing. Spa is more of a health/medical spa than "luxury". Breakfast was disappointing. Okay but not great, and you should avoid going there in rush hour. Bistro at the other Ensana next to it has excellent food, cakes and drinks. Would go there again, but only for the location, not the hotel.

My mother slept there with her friend. Hotel is not super fancy, but it's ok. BUT my mum and her friend was robbed while they were in spa. Someone took all their money from their wallets. Whole hotel staff didn't care about it and they refused to solve the problem. If you wanna have good a holiday carry your money with you everywhere or choose different hotel.

Stayed at the Ensana Group’s Grand Margitsziget or Margaret Island Hotel 9-11 May. Easy check in with clear directions on spa and pool access. There have been some renovations, more repainting and redoing bathrooms; the room retained the classic furniture. Better rooms face the park, other face the Danube Gearing up now for the season (had been mostly closed during Covid) e.g. restaurant is good for buffet breakfast, was good, but dinner etc. at the larger Thermal Hotel (did buffet one evening EUR18, all good from vegetarians, light, healthy through to standard fare/room service too), bar/terrace not open yet, but probably very soon… very nice anytime, now the spring proper and Margaret Island very green and lush. The Grand Margaret is a classic hotel, more adults, the other i.e. larger Thermal probably better for families/kids with more room choices Top tip, you can find YouTube under the Otrium info/tv menu (think Guest Services), not channels. Got a fruit basket for my birthday which occurred while staying, nice touch. You use the pools/spas at the other Thermal Hotel but there is a tunnel -1 below ground level; easiest access at first is to use the door next to the main lifts next to the lobby area about 150 metres (bring flip flops room dressing gown) towels provided at the pool check in; show room number).

Great experience. Room was very clean, bathroom as brand new. We enjoyed the thermal area - was not crowded, calm and clean. The lady at the reception was friendly and helpful, as well as the night receptionist - was super nice and went to find a beer in the back because the bar was already closed. Thank you❤️

This is a wonderful hotel. I have visited Budapest many times, staying in various locations and accommodation types. I will not be staying anywhere else the search is over. Clean and tidy with friendly staff and the breakfast is amazing. I will definitely be back.

The location is wonderful. Strolling the island and taking in the baths are great. Now on to the hotel: 1 - < 1MB/sec internet speed. So slow Google maps loads in tiles on the screen. Painfully slow and frankly unusable. The hotel advertises as having wifi, but this there was no usable wifi on the third floor. I am leaving tomorrow and checking into another hotel as i need wifi for work. I would have happily spent another night if I had wifi. 2 - Door handle came off in my hand. I had to find a small screw buried in the carpet to leave my room. There's no water stopper in the tub, my child can't take a bath. 3 - This hotel was built and used during a time when all rooms were smoking. I suspect the musty smell in the room is from this. Again, the location is absolutely perfect and I recommend staying on the island, but there's a renovated modern, airy, open Ensana hotel 100 feet from this one, and you are probably better served by staying there.

Very nice hotel! Clean and big rooms, nice style and vibe. You can feel like in old Grand Budapest Hotel! Nice breakfast, SPA, Gym and massage area. We could rent a city bikes in front of the hotel and go to city in 20-30 min which was very nice experience. If you going to Sziget Festival it’s also perfect with location, we took bikes and was there in 10/20minutes. Recommended for sure!

I loved the hotel: Good breakfast, lovely rooms, and spa. I liked the amenities and the room's view. I had read about complaints about the under passage to the spa. But I don't think it was an inconvenience at all. I found it enjoyable and relaxing. Also, it's easy to get to the spa. Péter showed us the spa complex and explained the offered treatments and services. I didn't have much time to use the spa services. I ate at the Margaret brasserie terrace. Prices were ok but I did not like the food.

Lovely hotel and spa. Preserves old world charm and service with some modern amenities. The room I had was in need of minor reburnishing (it smelled of a former smoking room), but it was clean, well maintained and comfortable.

A special thank you to Noémi Gábeli (sales manager) for making our stay wonderful! We had a wonderful stay. The gentleman on check in and check out was incredibly friendly also! The whole stay was a 5 star, but the housekeeping staff was incredibly rude to us. We asked reception for a 1pm check out and this was fine. Housekeeping knocked on our door SIX times between 10:00 and 13:00. At 12:55 they knocked again, and I told them that I need 5 minutes. 2 minutes later at 12:57 they came again and started making hand gestures that we need to move out. I have never had this before and was quite shocked. I believe they were Ukrainian by the sound of the language. Besides this, thanks very much for the great stay!

Great place to stay, attentive staff who are always very willing to help. Rooms are a little dated though, guess they are due for an upgrade soon. Room was spacious, modern bathroom, AC wasn't as cool as I hoped, hence the 4* for the room. SPA was amazing too. The island is a great location, peaceful. We went everywhere by Bolt Taxi which was cheap.

Hotel is very old, very bad isolation, we were not able to sleep at all as some of the neighbours were fighting, drinking and shouting. The food was also not good, same old cheese and cucumber that you can see are already one week old at least. Shower was leaking and when somebody is walking on the upper floor your whole room shakes as if an earthquake is happening… I used the Massage service and that was also awful, the lady who was massaging me was looking at me in a way that is my fault she is massaging me and it was a painful experience and even when i asked her to make it more light she just pretended that she is not hearing me… Was expecting more since this is not a cheap hotel to stay in and they brag a lot about the history and so on… I usually try to be nice but the fact that I am looking forward to a good nap on the airplane says everything.

Staying at this hotel has been a pleasure. The hotel has character and is a peaceful retreat. The hotel room was well presented with tea and coffee making services. There was a complimentary bottle of water and a small bottle of sparkling wine provided on the first night. The water was replaced when it was emptied but I'm not sure what the actual arrangement is concerning that. I was fortunate to have a balcony on the 2nd floor room I was in. That was a really nice 'extra'. The breakfast is just delicious. There is something to cater for all tastes from a hot meal to fruit and pastries. The staff are so helpful and polite. Margaret Island is a community in itself. There are restaurants and bars that didn't disappoint. There's even a free 'cinema' where you can have a drink and watch a movie. There is also a fountain that has a light display at night and at times, 'dances' to music. There are regular buses and trams to the rest of Budapest. All in all, a really great break largely due to this hotel! The hotel was perfect in its location and standards in my opinion and I will come back. Thank you to all at the hotel who work so hard to serve their patrons! PS, I gave four stars for service as during my visit there was no meal service besides breakfast and the onsite pub was closed. It wasn't a showstopper but would have been nice to have.

We had wonderful experience at the Ensana Grand Margaret Island hotel. From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive, ensuring that every aspect of our stay was exceptional. The room was spacious, with a view over the River Danube and a balcony facing the forest. Breakfast was excellent and varied. Unfortunately the restaurant is closed for evening meals at this time but the connecting thermal hotel has two options. The beautiful spa and gym are also in this location. Public transport is close by with links to all city attractions.

The location is perfect, beautiful park sarounding, even in winter was ok Rooms comfortable nice and clean, even old wooden stilish furniture for me is much veluable then the new plastic , fancy bads and chairs I like it . Staff on reception was perfect with all best attributes. Food for breakfast and buffet diner was more then good but the waiters are a bit arogant like we are the problem of their work.in the lobby restaurant we wos not aware for 10% obligated tips Which erase our dinner as it was in fancy restaurant not in loby hotel. In the main restoran we order expensive shampain and expect to enjoy in the dinner.but young girl was pushing to finish the dinner and left the table. And last one is problem with massage. They are in luck of staff and even we ask on 2 different days for the afternoon its imposible to book the massage. This is just summery of my stay . Advice for menagment to take care more about low staff.(i know its problem everywhere.

The thermal pools are also good, just we cought the moment when the hotel was full, because of the holidays..The people at the reception were very helpful! On the island there is no ticket machine in case you want to buy 24 hours ticket you need use an app for it.

We have chosen this hotel for our 25th wedding anniversary. The location of the hotel is on a romantic island and with its architecture and interior it fits perfectly. The rooms are very clean, spacious and the staff is professional and very friendly. The thermal water was relaxing, and we also spent a nice weekend visiting one part of Budapest. All recommendations for this wonderful place in the heart of Budapest. Best regards for all of them! Пошаљи повратне информације Историја Сачувано Заједница

In the beautiful heart of Budapest, in the northern part of the Margaret Island, in a traditional Hotel, there is this amazing restaurant. They offer delicious food with perfect wines. Waiters are really polite and understand special requests, too. The violinist in the gipsy band playing live music is a real talent with outstanding techniques to play his instrument. A place really worth checking.

This was something of a "staycation" for me as I live in Budapest so the Hotel was about 30 minutes travel time for me. That said, I loved my stay. The room and service were excellent. As I chose half board, I received both breakfast buffet and dinner buffet and there are absolutely no complaints there. The use of the thermal baths and the sauna and steam room was wonderful. The spa area is beautiful. As to Margaret Island, itself. I've been there many times in warmer weather and being there in the winter was magical. Very view visitors to the island so no crowds to contend with and it is still beautiful in the winter. One evening I went to Lumina Park for the light exhibit and it was, hands down, the best visual experience I have ever had. If you get the chance...see it! Just remember to dress warmly.

The rooms were very clean (including bathroom). New electronics (tv with smart functions, large screen dimensions, etc.) Good lightings in the room (some hotels have some low power bulbs to save energy and the rooms have not enough light). The location was excelent, parking space is enough, breakfast was tasty, service was good.

Stayed there during the F1 Grand Prix. Our stay was wonderful, the rooms and other facilities were very clean. The breakfast and the dinner were very good and had many choices. We were able to use the spa facilities of the other hotel, the access was easy and the facilities were perfect. Everyone was helpful and friendly. Thank you for booking us taxi when needed. The island where the hotel is located is perfect with easy public transportation. (family with 2 children, all of us enjoyed our stay to the maximum)

Fabulous old style hotel set on an island park in the middle of the River Danube. Bedroom is spacious with period style furniture and a ceiling high enough to accommodate a chandelier. There is also a newer post modern spa and wellness hotel linked to the Grand Hotel by a subterranean tunnel. Has a large swimming pool as well as thermal pools. Free for hotel guests, slippers and robe provided so pack your costume as to buy one here is €40+ (rental not possible) or call in at C&A in the town centre. Dinner is also fabulous - we decided to eat early at around 7pm and had the whole dinning room to ourselves and were serenaded by a 5 piece band playing everything from Hungarian classics to Tea for Two. They asked for requests and even came to play at our table - really special. (A CD of their music for €20 was discreetly mentioned - which we didn't buy - but don't let that spoil your evening). In the spa hotel there is a small bistro set overlooking the pool or a large modern dinning room catering for the spa clientele but an evening buffet can be had for around €20 per person. So why only 4 stars? Well once again "double" bed is two single beds fastened together with two single duvets. The walls are also not as sound proof as you might imagine. But biggest minus point is the location to the rest of Budapest - if you are coming to relax purely at the hotel then great, but if you are here to see Budapest then you are stranded here. There is no metro or tram connections to the island and only one bus but we never saw it. There are no waiting taxis either, but I guess you could order if you are organised enough. Google maps says it is a 60 minute walk to the Parliament Building from the hotel to give you some idea of the isolation. Great hotel but too isolated to see Budapest on your own unless you have your own transport.

Very good place to stay for people who like to sleep in snowboard jackets. We stayed in October 22, heating in room and lobbies was not working. Person at reception advised to use towel heater in bathroom. Nice would be to hear this information at check-in to be able to change hotel. This is a scheme.

This hotel has seen better days. The rooms are a bit outdated and more attention should be paid to the bed linens, particularly in winter. The house maids were somewhat sloppy leaving empty bottles behind and not refilling the mini-bar. Nevertheless, there is a historical feeling to the place and it is set at a wonderful location. The concierges were very friendly. The spa is OK.

Honestly, this was a great hotel. The rooms are large and the bathrooms are renovated. Somehow you feel you are still in the last century, but positively speaking. The staff is friendly and helpful depending on who you ask. Unfortunately, the internet connection was abysmal. If you have to work on your computer in the evening, this is not the place to be.

Fantastic location, the park with all it has to offer being right on the doorstep was brilliant for strolls, staying active, relaxing and drinks. The hotel itself has everything to offer in terms of the spa and pool area. Very impressive and easy to spend several days relaxing. Staff were always very helpful, amidst one or two things that needed addressing in our room. Would happily return. Top service and a very easy place to relax in.

Dear hotel management! We don't think we'll visit your grand hotel again. A good upper-class hotel not only needs a bed, but also a good dinner in the evening. We have experienced that it is possible to have a well-kept dinner in Budapest! It wasn't possible in the Grand Hotel!? Greetings from the Ore Mountains. Family Grabrucker

On the 11th of April we were enquiring about the rooms and the hotel facilities. Both the lady and the gentleman at Front Desk were extremely helpful and accommodating our requests. Truly worth the visit and a real hotel. (Message to the owner, please don't make it look like an airport lobby like the Thermal hotel across, keep the feel and look of the Grand Hotel!!!!)

A lovely break in an idyllic location, a great way to escape UK Coronation (we are amongst the 25% of the electorate in favour of abolition of Monarchy!) Spacious top-range Room was on 3rd floor with view over the iconic Danube. 1 star lost only because of erratic wi fi during the evening! Maybe signal boosters could be made available on request? If you are looking for full Room Service, opt for the adjacent sister Thermal Hotel. We were very happy to be in the more historic and we feel more classical Grand, which is celebrating its 150th Birthday this year! We have our complimentary 150th Birthday 15% off next visit voucher! Staff cannot be faulted. Friendly and helpful, with Reception staff all English speaking. We were on Half Board. Evening meals taken in adjacent modern sister hotel, linked by underground walkway. Food was all self service buffet style, with good range to cater for all, heathy and less-healthy choices! Pleasant reception and waiting staff, again English speaking Drinks and wine prices were good - £4 for a glass of good quality Furmint wine (same brand as Waitrose!), or £20 for the bottle. Amazing pianist and violinist in Thermal Hotel Bar, but sadly only Thursday to Saturday. Bath and pool facilities were excellent, all included in Room price. Earlier in day seems quiter, but never that crowded during our stay Just 1 thing. Outdoor Pool was not very clearly signed, and we only discovered it on the last day! Look for the sign near the pool bar that says SUN TERRACE! Vast range of Treatments on offer. My wife had 5 or 6 over the 8 day stay. All excellent, really lovely staff, experienced, skilled, English-speaking, but prices more or less same as UK, only with nicer facilities and wider range of choice. Overall cost of stay with all the extras was just under 2000 Euros. But just be aware Airport taxi is 60 Euros each way. To those unfamiliar, Margaret Island, on which the hotel is located, is basically a magnificent recreational City-run mid-river oasis of green. A wonderful mix of trees, open parkland and beautiful gardens. Absolutely stunning. The 5km running track around the island is used by around 4000 locals every day. Island is almost car free, with exceptions for hotel guests, taxis etc. It is a vibrant living lung for what is a truly wonderful, beautiful city. The Paris of central Europe? No. FAR nicer, far greener, far less polluted, and drastically more affordable! The city centre, St Stephen's Basilica etc is a scenic 1 hours walk, or 15 minutes by taxi (£12 each way), or take the tram for a fraction of cost! Thank you Hungary. This was our 4th trip (our first stay on the Island). We shall be back! Paul and Pamela Kent, UK PS. We know that 37% of our Electorate voted for Brexit, (33% against, 30% did not bother to vote), so our own fault to lose our EU Passports, but could you ask your Passport Control people at Budapest Airport to put a few more staff on the booths, when several flights due to take off for UK?

A good hotel is recognized not only by the area, services, clean rooms, good breakfast, etc., but also by the small details. In this perspective, Bible on the room was the positive aspect of my stay.

The location is superb. It's like you're in an exotic destination. It's a shame that, even if you're looking for the old style... the furniture still needs to be maintained... even the towels changed... they're a bit yellow... at the asking price... but it doesn't matter... the running track makes all the money😂

Excellent rooms, the spa facilities and pools were amazing .Definitely recommend. The staff couldn't help enough. Eniko(in reception) in particular was extremely helpful and a pleasure to speak to.

Lovely hotel, with full use of the Spa facilities in the sister hotel. The island has improved greatly over the years, lovely kept gardens and fountains. Ideal for runners, 5km running track around the Island.

The service on site was really a disaster. Through the website we were able to book a wellness package with supposedly 10-15 treatment options. In the wellness area, it then turned out that there were only 2 options and these were already all booked up for the day. Even the infrared sauna costs extra. In the evening we wanted to go to the city and could not get out of the underground parking - in the underground parking was a cell phone number to be contacted in case of problems. No one answered, so we couldn't get out of the underground parking with our car. Evening messed up! We booked a late check out and sat in the spa area until about 12 o'clock, then we could not get back to our rooms because the internal communication in this hotel is catastrophic. A wellness weekend turned into a weekend full of annoyances and stress. definitely not recommended.

A very elegant and clean hotel. Spacious rooms (premium plus rooms) and comfortable beds. Rich and varied breakfast. The staff was kind and very prompt when we had small problems. The hotel also offers a treatment base and several (covered) pools with thermal water. Budapest, although it does not have the advertising of Prague, is a city that offers more. A wonderful place for a relaxing vacantion.

Great hotel all in all, in beautiful surroundings and fairly close to city center - however, spa is small for the number of guests and in the evenings it is absolutely crowded. Most have (or seem to have) no pressing health issues so that should be taken into account as well. Facilities would need to be refurbished soon in order to justify the price. Breakfast is good, only improvement could be made regarding coffee. The “island” itself is really great and provides ample opportunities for sports or just casual strolling. Staff was helpful and provided all the necessary information.

I have visited the Grand and Thermal hotels on Margaret Island more than a dozen times since 1997. That’s how much I like them. The food and service have improved enormously over that time. The thermal waters and tranquil island setting continue to heal and relax. It feels like there are more young families these days. It is noisier and busier than in the past, when the clientele was mainly 50+.
