I can confidently say this is one of the worst hostels I have ever stayed at in my entire travelling experience. But, let's start with the positives: - The bed frames are private with curtains - It is central to the city so easy to get everywhere - Some of the staff are friendly - Decently sized security lockers Now for the negatives: - It is a dirty hostel. The bathrooms stank of urine everyday. I was booked for 5 days, I didn't see anyone clean my room once. I had a girl sick come in on my last day, I got sick a day or two later despite practising hand-hygiene. - It is not social. As a solo traveller, I was really disappointed that this place didn't have any areas to hang out. There's the kitchen which few use as it's not comfortable & the lobby is small with maybe 2-3 seats. So this place was difficult to meet people. Don't stay here if solo traveller. - The rooms are tiny & uncomfortable. I woke up the next day with a sore back because I could feel the wooden base through my mattress. - THE WORST PART - the rudest manager I have ever met. I could've ignored everything if this had not have happened. When I had two nights left, I went to the staff in the afternoon (around 3-4pm) to ask if I could cancel my last night. They said yes I could as I had paid extra for a flexi booking. But, they informed me that I needed to come back the next morning as they didn't have a manager present to perform the cancellation. I asked if I could get written confirmation but they assured me they'd pass on the message for the next day. The next day I came in the morning, explaining that I would like to leave that day and had already spoken with the staff. The manager with dreadlocks was so purposefully rude and refused to help me (even though staff had already agreed to) because she claimed one day wasn't enough notice. I tried to clarify again with her that I came the day before. She said that I should have had 'common sense' and come in the morning the day before when a manager was present (how is a guest meant to know the staff roster?). Being upset and shocked by this, I walked away. When I came back, I overheard the manager assisting another women who asked for the exact same thing as me. I was really hurt. I will never stay here again and I advise all solo travellers to avoid it. Their service is rude and I cannot believe how disrespectful they were to me.

This hostel feels like a home quickly!! The staff is incredibly kind, welcoming and helpful. They organize a lot of nice events for travelers to get to know each other. 🧳Especially as a Solo-Traveler this is a great place to stay. The rooms were cleaned everyday which is a huge plus 🧼 Supermarkets, Shops, Bars, Clubs and significant places to visit are near by which makes this an even more high quality experience. Special shout-out and thanks to the Activity-Leaders Niki and Ádám who made us feel so appreciated and loved. They do an amazing job creating a cozy atmosphere for the guests of the hostel. (Met some amazing people!!) An overall fantastic experience!! Thank you very much☺️

Great Hostel in the middle of the city center of Budapest. Quite cheap, well placed and surrounded by many bars and restaurants, it's great for visiting the city and going out. The rooms give you some privacy and the bathrooms and showers are clean. The staff is very friendly and often organise social events to meet the other residents. I especially met Alexa, Oliver and Scarlett who were welcoming during my stay and offered us free wine and beer, and gave us good advice for visiting the city. I recommend !

One of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed at. The facilities are really clean, the location is great and the staff are friendly and helpful. The heating wasn’t working in my room and the lady at reception responded to my enquiry so quickly and even heated up another room for me to move into. Thanks Maverick Team!

Amazing place for stay. Super sweet reception. Good location. Few minutes to 24h grocery store. 10 minutes to 100E bus stop. Free wifi, coffee, tee, sugar, milk for coffee. Good and clean showers. Your bed will be comfortable, a lot of space and you will have a lamp. To stay there was my best decision ever.

Located in the Jewish Quarter, this hostel is the perfect place to walk anywhere in Budapest or bus! However, we had a very mixed experience with service and chatted with the manager before leaving due to this. He was incredibly receptive and kind to our feedback. We had a very rude female front desk worker check us in, who had us pay upfront before telling us about problems with privacy curtains (or a lack thereof) in one of the shared dorms. As solo female travelers, we were extremely uncomfortable and we would have chosen to stay elsewhere. We checked out the room and the lack of a curtain it was extremely uncomfortable as it was a very visible bed, and we had paid a premium for the privacy aspects. There were also dirty dishes around the room and on the bed. A male staff member was extremely kind and helped us switch beds, and helped fix that. The female staff member then stormed out and told us we had ruined her night despite us being nothing but polite albeit a bit nervous. We switched into a private room the second night, and for >80€ a night, the cleanliness was not where it needed to be. There were pubic hairs all over the bathroom, stains on the towel and mattress, as well as several other smaller issues. Overall, we would not stay here again unless major changes were implemented in the cleanliness and respect for guests.

Place is clean and staff is friendly. The lounge area is welcoming and young people will sometimes hand around. The beds and bathrooms are tidy. They also have a luggage storage room. We booked a double luxury private bedroom and ended up with a very spacious room for four. For the price we payed couldn’t be happier.

Great hostel experience in the heart of Budapest! I had a warm welcome from Orsi, and she imparted some excellent local knowledge, especially about places to find delicious food, throughout our stay. (Seriously, we went back to one place three times in five days!) The rest of the staff team were also brilliant. The hostel is clean, modern and beautifully designed, with comfortable public spaces to chill out. It was quiet during our stay (perhaps because it was midweek?), but the privacy curtains on the beds are a fantastic addition, meaning that you can always retire to your little pod for some peace and quiet!

I’m not satisfied about my journey. We booked for 2 nights in March 2022. First point, we didn’t have hot water at all in the bathroom. Second point, our towels were dirty with blood stains. Third point, the place is very noisy, during day and night. Finally, bedding is not good. The only comment of the staff is “yes it happens when we are fully booked”… The only positive point is the location. I don’t recommend.

Great location, services and atmosphere in the middle of the jew district. The rooms are big and the shared bathrooms is very clean and tidy. It also has a equipped kitchen, wifi and lots of things in the common areas that are free to use. It has a cafe-bar downstairs for cheap breakfast and great staff. I would definitely come back, it's perfect for groups of friends.

Convenient location, good price, good atmosphere. We booked a private room and had some trouble getting the room cleaned (towels changed) most days. The hostel had lots of activities and amenities for those interested, and staff were usually friendly and helpful. BE WARNED that while the soundproofing is admittedly pretty excellent, there is an abundance of noise here at night, and especially on weekends. The museum across the street turns into a club at night, and people are in and out of rooms pretty frequently into the early hours.-2 stars for the issue with getting clean towels, and because of the clubs next door. Water pressure in the shower was pretty sad..

The hostel is really nice a spacious. The kitchen is full of facility and clean. The curtains idea is magic! 6 people in a dorm but you still get your privacy. I recommand it. I gave 4 starts, cause the bathrooms weren't the best, the soap wasn't always full but that's understandable. I

The stay at the Maverick hostel was perfect! The facilities are clean and well equipped, the location is superb and the hosts were so lovely, in particular, dear Yas! She always made sure we were having the best time and a great stay. She also does the best pancakes!! Definitely recommend if visiting Budapest!

The private rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable for a very reasonable price. The hostel is located in the centre of the Jewish district and is close to the ruin bars. The reception staff are lovely and willing to help you out with recommendations. The walking tour with Ata was very good. Thank you for my stay!

I really enjoyed the location. The bunks are very comfortable and each one has their own outlet and light. There are lockers provided in the rooms but you'll need to bring your own lock. They also provided towels upon request. Staff could be a little more lenient about checking in early but at least they had a room to store your luggage.

Maverick is a great hostel, the interior is fairly modern. I had a 2 person private room, this was one of the nicer hostel rooms i have stayed in. There is also a communal kitchen available to all guests with free coffee and tea. The staff was amazing, especially Orsi was really helpful, she recommended some great restaurants and some very interesting sight to see. I will definitely come back

My stay at Maverick was absolutely fantastic! The location is simply amazing, just a mere some minutes away from the train station. You'll find a market and beautiful parks in close proximity, making it a delightful experience. The hostel offers a remarkable opportunity to connect with fellow travelers effortlessly. Furthermore, the rooms, beds, and bathrooms are exceptionally pristine, ensuring a truly enjoyable stay. I cannot emphasize enough how highly I recommend it!

My room never had hot water the entire stay and don’t even bother with the 10 euro cash only laundry. Clothes were not even dried properly. The cold shower doesn’t even drain properly so water pools up. Staff try to dodge the issue of hot water. Other than that the room was adequate with decent wifi.

The hostel was in a fantastic location, near the center and the main attractions. Rooms were simple but equipped with all the comforts (privacy curtain, sockets for devices, personal light, etc.). The staff was always friendly and extremely helpful even following a small inconvenience. Absolutely recommended!

Nicely located, clean and meat hostel in the heart of the city center. Nice interior, comfortable, the other guests i met were nice and easy to make friends with. I also remember Zsani from reception, we became quite good friends, and had lots of good talks, apart from her just being nice and helpful. Totally recommend the place!

  • 2/5 Enzo A. 6 months ago on Google
Overall a very decent stay. The place feels modern. The beds are comfy enough and well equipped (personal light, power sockets), huge plus for the privacy curtains. Big lockers in the room (need to bring your own padlock, you can also buy one at reception for 2000HUF/5€). However the shower/WC space was absolutely terrible. The space smelt like sewers and seemed really dirty. The shower water was cold and had almost no pressure. I hope this is an isolated case. Otherwise would not recommend for this reason.

Great location (it can be loud at night, but not too much) Clean room and bathroom. The lockers were big enough for two medium size lugagges. Kind and helpfull since the reception. They can store your lugagge before checkin/ after checkout. Every night you have a social event to know other people, that is so cool for solo travellers! I would come back for sure!

We had amazing time at Maverick City Lodge. We stayed at the premium double room which was spacious, quiet, clean and fully equipped. The staff was extremely nice and helpful, caring about each detail - including welcome bottles of wine and chocolates in the room 😍. Location is perfect - great access to public transportation, close to restaurants and bars, walking distance from the city centre. We couldn't have chosen a better place to stay.

We stayed 3 nights in a private double room and the service was absolutely great. The hostel is located in the very heart of the city and still an incredibly quiet place. The staff is lovely (as the whole building) and super caring. They also let you borrow umbrellas and bikes!! The best choice for any kind of traveller in Budapest! Highly recommended!

I had a fantastic stay at this hostel! The location was superb, and the breakfast was truly amazing. While everything else was perfect, the only drawback was the inconsistent temperature of the shower—it wasn't hot enough and occasionally turned cold. Despite this, I would still recommend it for the overall positive experience.

I stayed here for a while and this hostel was excellent and it met all my needs. Its location is great between bars and restaurants in the central area, the cleaning team cleans it morning and night, the rooms and beds are comfortable and there is privacy and the dining room is equipped and comfortable to sit and meet people. Thanks to good people at the reception like Gana Vicky Niki Ata Gary and others whose names I don't remember

The best hostel I have stayed in! 8 person female dorm had pod style bunks which had plenty of privacy. Free luggage storage, lots of activities arranged to take part in and even a discount at the restaurant next door which was very good. Would recommend to anyone.

It was my first time staying at a hostel and had a great experience! It's in a quiet but central position, near plenty of restaurants, supermarkets, pubs (Szimpla Kert) and walking distance from main attractions and public transport. The 10 bed female dorms, located in a separate corridor on the ground floor, were very spacious with a big shared connected bathroom between the two dorms. It had everything I needed: big and comfy beds with blackout curtains, lockers, plug sockets, towels..Common areas, especially the kitchen, were spotless and had everything you need, plus you can also make tea or coffee for free whenever you want. It's not a very social hostel but I met some lovely people during the free wine tasting event. The staff was very helpful with everything I needed. Everything felt clean but maybe the floors and bathroom could be cleaner. The sinks in the toilet and showers were also tiny and it would've been nice to have a stool or shelf in the shower to put your stuff on. The lockers were big but those on the top row had the lock hole so high up that I always struggled to lock it.

I stayed for a couple of nights , had an amazing time! It was quite cold but I am happy that Zsani from the reception recommended me amazing places to go and enjoy the city despite of the weather, since she was from Budapest she had amazing tips. Amazing stuff and great location, will surely stay again!

I had a fantastic stay at Maverick Hostel! The location was perfect, making it easy to explore the area. The spacious room exceeded my expectations, offering exceptional value for the price. The staff, especially Orsi, were incredibly kind and knowledgeable. Orsi's insights on local cuisine added a delightful touch to my experience. Highly recommend for a memorable stay!

The hot water was not working properly when I was staying there in December, so I had to take some cold showers. Otherwise I would have given this hostel 4 stars. It is a bit noisy outside if you get a room that faces the street but the noise doesn't bother me too much. I liked the privacy of the curtains.

  • 5/5 Jé K. 2 years ago on Google
Hotel very well located, right in the center and close to all amenities, great rooms also. A common kitchen available fully equipped and very friendly as visible in the photos. On the other hand in 4 days no cleaning passage or change of towels.

The hostel is what it says on the tin. It's a very basic place, currently marketed as a hipster sort of cool sort of eco sort of friendly and cute place. It's suitably located and the staff is friendly. The room is relatively clean although the bathroom deserves a thorough scrub. Dust accumulates in diverse places. It's a bit run down. The BIG issue was the heating, which you need in winter and which made this loud noise, a hum followed by a repeated rattle, as if a helicopter were in your room. Not a good sleeping companion. Okay, slept two hours, that was good enough...staff said no other rooms were available and couldn't switch heating off because the controls were broken. Left as soon as possible and was greeted with a smile. They are cool here and they smile. This is a good place if you're a young backpacker and can withstand anything they throw at you. In some respects, beats sleeping in the train station.

Stayed here for a few nights. It's right in the middle of the Jewish Quarter and it's walking distance to all of the tourist places and its in the middle of Budapest's night life area. We booked a twin room instead of sharing a dorm, it was really hot when we went, so we chose this room for the AC, as in some dorms they're not very good, our AC worked really well and we slept well every night. We arrived late after 10pm and the street outside was really busy with people walking to bars and restaurants etc but we couldn't hear any noise in our room. There is a live music band on most nights next door at Fat Mamma's, but they stop playing before 10pm. We don't do breakfast, so can't comment, but the kitchen was clean and had lots of fridges too, some of the people staying chilled in the kitchen before heading out and some people were in the foyer area too. Our room was basic, but perfect, it was clean too. The TV in our room let us connect to our phones for streaming too. The staff are really nice and helped us out a few times too, especially the day staff. The guy on at night was nice, but not very knowledgeable, I called from the airport and he recommended I change some money there, not a good idea as they charged a huge commission fee and everywhere took card 🤦‍♂️We didn't take part in the socials, but saw a group taking part and they looked like they were enjoying themselves. There's computers and printers available, the WiFi was good too. Prices are reasonable for a hostel in a capital city. Fat Mamma's next door give you discount if you're staying at Maverick, we only drank there, but the food did look good. The crowd is mixed here as its a big hostel, there's young, old and families staying here, on separate floors I think.... Anyway, this place is highly recommended if you want a taste of the hostel life, I'll definitely use Maverick next time I'm in Budapest 👌

Clean, super comfortable beds and just simply a great hostel. Could even be one of the best I’ve ever been to. Highly recommend for solo travellers! ps. If you ever get the chance to meet Alejandro, just know that he’s awesome.

We stayed in a double with ensuite (shared with one other room). It was very clean, recently decorated in a pleasant modern style. Staff were friendly and helpful. The bed was very comfortable, the room had a big window (fully openable) which looked out over a courtyard. Good sized room, beanbag to sit on. Good dark curtains. Great shower, good water pressure. Generally friendly and good atmosphere, with clean, very spacious, well equipped kitchen and foyer area. Easy walking distance to many facilities and attractions, including a 24h shop. The one down point is that it is very loud at the weekend - it's opposite a club, and on top of a late night venue and the building vibrates. However, pack quality earplugs, and have a nightcap and it's okay. LGBT friendly.

Cannot recommend this place high enough! It’s been a while since we’ve been treated so well by staff members and we felt absolutely welcome from the very beginning of our stay. There was a private parking not too far from the building and at a fair cost, our room was big and bright, our baby son loved it too and he loved the cod which was brough specially for him to the room. The food in the restaurant downstairs in the court yard was lovely, we had live music in the evening, all the staff there was very kind and the lady who served us the coffee in the morning was simply amazing! All the guys at the reception - so cool and super friendly, we just loved everyone! Highly recommend Maverick Hostel for its location, the fair price, the lovely room and the best staff ever! Thank you, guys, we shall be back :)

Really great hostel, spotless, great beds in the dorms and a really good bathroom. Kitchen was also well equipped and really big. Receptionists were really helpful however I would say the one thing that was missing was any atmosphere.

Wonderful address to discover Budapest, alone or accompanied. Helpful reception staff and a great restaurant next door to the hostel where you get a discount. Perfectly located for going out to party, clean, I met some great people there!

Maverick hostel or city lodge, we visited this Budapest in July had book 1 room. As we arrived late but still area near hostel is quite lively, as there is club exactly opposite to hostel. Reception and staff was friendly and really helpful. Lobby was basically comfort place for party or hangout or meet-up new people in hostel. Hostel was good in hot weather they had AC working fine and good linen available. It’s tipsy expensive tariff but overall experience and location is all worthy. Definitely recommend place for female solo traveller’s.

Stayed Friday- Sunday in September. Good location and very friendly and professional staff. Loud night late club opposite the location l when I stayed, didn't bother me but might bother others. Room very spacious and well kept. The rooms lighting isn't great. The pressure of the shower quite low. Only minor with me card not working but issue was resolved very quickly. The hostel served it purpose very well.

Very comfortable and nice hostel! Great location, clean areas, enough privacy in bed (+ light and charging pots), kind staff, good kitchen and the bar with a discount is just next door. With other travelers in the hostel we agreed this hostel is definitely the very good one! Also the staff tries to connect solo travelers with some basic activity. I definitely recommend it 😊

Nice location and cheap but I do not recommend this place. We stayed in Budapest 4 days and we had cold water 3 days on 4. The receptionist said us than it can happen when a lot of people are taking a shower at the same time, but we took showers at 6 a.m and 11 p.m. moreover, there is a nightclub in front of the hotel. We cannot sleep until 4 a.m. one night.

One of the most amazing hostels with great staff and fun activities to do. We has pub quizzes, wine tasting, pub-crawls etc. They have a fantastic volunteering program too and you can ask them about it. Rooms are good and clean for a comfortable night. The kitchen is well stocked. Overall a very good hostel at one of the best locations in Budapest.

What can I say, the beds were perfect! I stayed in a 6 bed dorm and the bed was really huge considering it’s only for one person. I consider it like a mini Cabin because you have your own little private space. The shower area was the biggest shower spce I’ve ever seen.

I was initally going to stay here for one night only, but I fell in love with the city because there was so much to see in Budapest. This hostel was also close to all of the landmarks in the city, and it was the best experience so far since I met a lot of new friends here. I extended my stay for another day. The privacy of the beds was notable. I will definitely book another stay here once I visited Budapest again. The staff also was the friendliest :)

Nice, comfortable, spotless bedrooms and bathrooms, kind personal, well-equipped kitchen and a wide offer of activities and recommendations. We were a group of four students so we weren't asking for much. The receptionist were really nice, willing to help and to recommend good hungarian restaurants. There was a common kitchen and living room at the entrance. They offered a 10% discount to eat at the restaurant next door (Fat Mama's). Honestly, I really liked it and would recommend it for any type of trip (with family or friends). People respected the hours of sleep, the bedrooms were spacious and they have air-conditioning.

Lovely place to stay in an excellent location . We got a private room and it was great. It’s in a very nice location with a short walk to some good food and the ruin bars. Service and facilities were very good would recommend to anyone staying in Budapest.

Amazing spot. Stayed there for 2 days. Beds were great and rooms air conditioned which is not often the case in Europe. Staff were beyond helpful. There is always events happening and the restaurant connected had great food and drinks. Great location a short walk to the main sights or close to public transport. The only gripe I would have is the breakfast buffet offered is not the best and much better options are available for a similar or cheaper price. Overall it was a great experience and I will be back next year

  • 5/5 Tyson A. 10 months ago on Google
Stayed in the private room. Was very clean and modern, no different from a hotel room. Hostel staff were very welcoming and had plenty of recommendations for things to see and do. They also put on social events everyday and let you book for other events through them. They update a whatsapp group daily with events. Overall very pleasant stay for a solo traveller and will definitely be back!

A great hostel, very clean, nice rooms. Free towels and water supplied in the room which is a nice touch. Pretty quiet, except on Friday and Saturday nights where the you can hear noise from the street. Excellent location - really close to Jewish quarter and ruin bars, 5/10 minute walk to several of the main areas/streets of the city. Would stay again.

Everything was clean, the atmosphere was nice, but the staff was the best. Big thanks to Orsi, she helped me to find a music concert ticket and suggested very nice place to go and eat delicious food. Other guys from the stuff were also very polite, kind and outgoing for solving any kind of problems!

The location was excellent. The female 8 bed dorm was fairly clean. Did find a couple of stray hairs on bed side could have done with a deep clean. Arrived to the hostel an hour and half before check in and was called to check in after 3pm. The room was quiet and the showers were hot which I was worried about due to reviews. Lockers are nice size. My bed was under a window and was a little cold at night. Worth asking for an extra blanket. The kitchen area was nice and mostly clean. Didn't have much interaction with staff. Check in was quite clinical and I was told my bed was ready and then it wasn't. The staff didn't feel very approachable during my stay. I ate a fat mama twice had a delicious gnocci and shrimp dish and tried a vegetarian big breakfast. I do not recommend the breakfast. Bland.
