Dealt directly with Charles(owner) for a long term stay. Agreed the the cost the room and start date. Evening before he called and said that room not available anymore but i can take it for 4x price if i like. If you cant trust owner’s word, what services you will get? Updated: below feedback from owner is a straight up lie, i did not ask for any change to what was agreed.

I did not really like this hotel. The positives first. The staff is great. They are professional and helpful. The restaurant attached to the hotel is really good. The breakfast was ok, not special but adequate. The room was clean and rather large. The air conditioning works. The main reason I would not stay again is because the building is so old and run down. Inside the room there is a musty smell that does not leave. The carpet and furniture is old, stained, and worn. The mattress is uncomfortable, it needs to be replaced. You can’t sit on the side of the bed, you just slide into the middle. There are lamps on both side of the bed but only one side is usable because there is only one plug. The bathroom is large but strangely bare. There is no hook by the sink to hold a hand towel. And there is no place to store your bathroom supplies. The room also faced the street and it was rather loud. You could not open the windows and sleep. Just slight inconveniences and the overall quality and lack of upkeep make me hesitant to recommend.

They kept our bags and let us use the restroom, recommended.

Not expensive and comfortable hotel. Close to the center (10 minutes walk) and Gellert Hill. It is possible to stay with a pet. Very nice hotel staff and the owner Mr. Szombati. You can rent a room for a long time at a very favorable price. Great restaurant.

The hotel staff makes it 5 stars: friendly people, ready to serve, they offer information about the city, maps, the day of check-out we left at 4:30 am, and they had breakfast packed for us. Clean and pleasant environment, room with many amenities, and breakfast is an American-style delight. The restaurant is recommended, the dishes are delicious.

Hotel Charles, on the Buda side, deserves more than 5 stars. With the Budapest transport pass, the hotel is on the bus routes of 8E, 110, 112 and one stop away from a tram line. Round the corner there is the 178. All can take you to the Pest side. The hotel itself is spotlessly clean and the hotel staff very friendly and extremely helpful. We needed a sewing kit which was cheerfully provided and also packing tape and scissors so that we could organise posting a box back home. The decor is a little tired but renovations are happening in some rooms - double glazed windows, air conditioning, etc. There is a restaurant on site but we did not eat there. Our room had a kitchenette with fridge, cooking rings, pots, pans, cutlery but no jug or sachets to make tea/coffee. We would definitely stay at HC again.

The first time in Charles Hotel. Need a good modernization of the building. I have got what I was expected. The price is higher than it suppose to. The cleaning is equal to the Hungarian level. Very bad. Make sure walk a lot in the forest to clean your lungs, to avoid any sickness. I highly recommend to inspect the building as it suppose to be, by the rules. You can not provide service to tourist what makes them unhappy. You have to looking after your health, your worker and of course your customer. Kitchen, plug socket repariert with screw, very dangerous. The carpet is very dirty, the colour is gone. Lots of dust and germs built up. The original colour is stated. Clean it please. Bathroom, The extractor should built in, the dust, germs, built up and it is coming back to the air. Very dangerous. The air quality in the room is very bad. Very important to clean it, cause health and lung desiases. The door handle has no screw, moving falling apart, dangerous to use. The light bulb has no cover, for the eyes I very sensitive. The tub must be cleaned regularly, hair and germs stucked up. The translation of advertising in the bad is wrong. In Hungarian say your kids auch, aber in other language nur environment. The smoking area should not been in the front area. Non smoking people passing true, can smell smoke, young and old generation. There is music or train in nearby shaking the walls as it resonating. The fire safety, emergency exit simple and very old, need some colourful picture with better explanation. The runaway sign must be highlighted, as the corridors so dark. The sign of the emergency faulty. The price is very high according to the location and room. The toilet brush holder is unclean. No good. The stuff at the reception has a good knowledge to serv the hotel. Keep it clean and safe.

Very nice hotel with the very professional and pleasent personal. Rooms are comfortable and with quite equipped kitchen. No need to loose time to learn 😜 how lights are working. Everything is simple. SIMPLY AND CLEAN. I really recommended it. Buy walk you can reach any part of the city. MOM mall is on 10 minutes by walk.

Good rooms, good service, acceptable price, my only regret is that I paid 15 euros for parking in the hotel yard, and I could have parked in a side street for free, overnight. everything else ok.

I stayed in the Hotel Charles for a week & I loved it. I had a beautiful room with a fabulous view & the hotel staff were very nice & could not do enough to help. I will be going back to Budapest in 9 months time & I will be staying there again.

Bus stops at the hotel . Easy access to lidl Aldi for shopping . Breakfast great . Customer service at the reception is superb . Friendly and helpful . Waiters and room cleaners are polite and friendly . It is equal to a 5 star hotel .

Great hotel with garage, if you come by car. Breakfast abundant and varied. Spacious and very clean rooms (we stayed in a renovated room). The reception staff very helpful. Walking distance to the center and tourist attractions. One of the best hotels in Budapest.

BE CAREFUL! Spontaneous cancellations accure when booked via AirBnb. Paid half a year in advance and had to literally ABORT our long planned trip because we didn't find any new stay. Everything was occupied due to new years eve.

Cozy room despite the bed being too soft. hotel location good too, close to Cidatela Park. Unfortunately we had to pay 12 euros a day for our little dog, which we thought was a very high price.

Nice hotel. The staff is really nice and polite. The rooms are big - a little old but not worn out. There’s a little kitchen in the room with a few necessities a stove, few plates, cups and cutlery and a little seating area. Rooms are clean. I don’t think the elevator went down to ground floor. We only saw it at first floor were we lived. And they only showed us the stairs. The breakfast buffet had a little of every thing. You can sit both outside and inside. Walking distance to the congress center.

It was clean, staff was great. Mattress was too soft and pillow too big for me.

It's a bit old looking at first glance but a nice hotel that have met most of my expectations. Its personnel were really kind and warm to me.

Very nice room. They even had a kitchen with basic equipment in the room as well. It was closeby a busstation and you could by tickets at the hotel but it was a little further away from all the must sees, because those were mainly on the pest side of budapest.

The facts; 1- There is no shampoo in the rooms. 2- There is no slippers in the rooms. 3- wi-fi is not working. 4- AC is working like a Diesel Motor. Normal human being won’t sleep with that kind of voice. 5- Rooms which have windows to the main street is very noisy. It’s very hard to sleep in the mornings. 6- I am not hygiene additct but i expect a clean room. There are many other options in Budapest for same price. The only advantage is its location is amazing. You can reach center very easily.

I was here 10 times, it was perfect. But lay visit was worse then before. Hotel is in good place, nice walking to center and Gellert hegy, but something happened with hotel staff...

Friendly and helpful staff. The rooms are big with private bathrooms and you have a little kitchen too. If you have a room with a view to the hotels parking place, it will be a quiet room. The hotel also has a restaurant at the ground floor. The bus stations are very close, but if you prefere to walk, the bridge over the Danube it's at 15 minutes.

First time I have stayed away from the river in Budapest and very happy to find this hotel. At any time of the day the staff are helpful, friendly and cheerful. Yes it is an older building but the refurbishment puts it ahead of all others in its class. Breakfast is great - enough variety for anyone and plenty. Good coffee too. Clean throughout - and they have really though through the things you would need as a traveller so no need to go to the shops. Location is fine - transport in Budapest is excellent regardless of your budget and with BOLT firmly established getting reliable taxis is super easy and they don't grumble about short trips. Great value and those who have left negative reviews seem to have missed this point - half the cost of more central hotels and while not as flash, just as good.

The room has a special retro feeling, like I am at my grandma's. You can't get that nowadays, so I hope they will keep this style and take care of it. The room is surprisingly very-very clean! So clean that you really can't find anything to complain about. The breakfast buffet is also amazing.

Although we didn’t stay at the hotel, we had a car crash on the road in front of it and the staff came straight away to see if we were okay, letting us know that they had cameras on the premises. They were superhelpful, called the police and helped us get all the documents we needed from them + translated everything as the police didn’t speak any english. Usually the people tell you the most about a place. The kindness and help we got from the staff was amazing and I believe the guests staying there would get the same, if not even better, and we wouldn’t hesitate to stay here the next time we are in Budapest.

I stayed recently at Hotel Charles for 9 days and it was very good 👍🏼 The staff are friendly, the rooms a clean, my room even had a bathtub, the breakfast was fine and I really dont understand why its only a 3 star hotel it should be 4 🙂🙂
