First of all, my stay was very brief - two nights only, and leaving at 4:30 in the morning on the last day - but nevertheless I got to 'experience' Star City Hotel. My room upon arrival seemed to be not very clean: dust on the edge of the board behind the bed, a big stain on the bed, hairs in the sink that were not removed during cleaning, mold on the shower ceiling that came in many color variations ranging from dark green to black, and damages to the sink and lamp beside the bed. As one can imagine I returned to the reception to leave note on the condition of my room and asked if there was anything that could be done about it but the lady behind the reception told me that housekeeping went away already and that there was nothing that she could do as she was not entitled to, and the manager was not available. Except that was not the only unpleasant thing I'd gotten to experience there. I asked a day prior to receive a wake-up call because I had to leave very early in the morning and I could not afford to miss my flight, so I opted for a call along side my several alarm clocks to wake me. But that call never happened. The gentleman behind the reception that morning tried to apologize to me when I checked out with the excuse 'I am so sorry ma'am, I had so much administration to do that I was not able to call you.' to which I asked him why the wake-up call was listed as one of the hotel's service. He had no idea. So to anyone who wants to book this hotel, please keep this in mind. To everyone else, this was simply my own experience and experiences as well as opinions may vary.

The staff are very warm and professional. My dad recently stayed there. He has Alzheimer’s and he was lost in Budapest. We tracked him down to this hotel. I got a hold of the folks at this property and they assisted every step of the way. They immediately understood his needs and helped me. I made flight and hotel reservations (overnight layover in London) for my dad to go back to Calgary. They printed the reservations, my contact information, and gave them to him. They also gave him a wake up call and instructions on how to get to the airport safely. He ended up making his flight out of Budapest. This wouldn’t have been possible without the help of the great staff at this property. I will definitely consider Star City Hotel for my next trip to beautiful Budapest. Thank you again to all the great people at Star City Hotel! Vlad

The reception is very very nice, and welcomed us with a drink! They suggested very nice restaurants and accommodated our needs/requests. The location is nice, convenient to train station, metro and thermal spa, but is not right in the city center, so it is recommended to take the metro or the bus which are working efficiently. Breakfast at the hotel could be improved a little in quality and conditioner and solid soap are not available in the room. Everywhere in Budapest it is pretty clean and nice (there is though a problem with electromagnetism).

I arrived there at around 1 AM due to a flight delay, and the receptionist was very kind and friendly. The room was compact but comfy, and it was super clean. The breakfast was excellent with plenty of options, and the staff was always reliable and friendly, providing assistance with information about the city, public transport, and getting around, etc. The hotel is conveniently located not far from the Metro station. Overall, my experience was great. Thank you very much for such outstanding service.

The receptionist really looked like he didn't want to be there and was quite impolite. The room was tiny no larger than a box room. There was barely enough space to store my luggage but it was fine for one evening. The breakfast was good but there was not that many hot food options. Some of the staff also spoke to other customers rudely. The location was nice right outside a bus line and it was safe. There was an ATM directly outside. It was cheap for a one night stay and you do get what you pay for.

A quite small but very nice hotel, at a convenient location near Keleti train station. The rooms are not huge, but you'll find everything you need in them. The breakfast is also good. And their luggage storage service came in very handy! A good price-quality ratio.

We had a pleasant stay. Room was big and warm. We were very comfortable. The girl in reception was fantastic, an hungarian beauty. She spoke really good English and helped us with a take away breakfast. Really good experience.

Everything was perfect. Breakfast was delicious. The rooms are daily cleaned. Near railstation and subway.

Clean, quiet hotel about 20 min tram ride from the Basilica/Danube/Centre. Basic but does the job well. The reception staff speak good English. Breakfast leaves a lot to be desired. ..consisted of ham, cheese slices, bread rolls, goulash, egg/,omelette, hotdog sausages, beans, yoghurt, tinned fruit and granola or salad. Having said that, I could find something to eat. The woman who was in charge of breakfast was miserable and a little rude. She ceremoniously turns off the lights two mins before breakfast finishes...she doesn't appear to be happy and wants people out of the way. The reception team are helpful, a 24hr bar is available if you want it. Tram stop into town is just around the corner. Great if you're on a budget but if I went back, I'd prefer to be a little closer to the action and not spend as much time travelling on trams. Great little hotel if you're on a budget!

A very nice, cosy hotel with a more than sufficient breakfast buffet and all the amenities you need - perfect for those who travel on a budget!

The hotel and the room were clean, quite and warm. We asked for an extra bed for our young daughter and the hotel took care of it before we arrived. The breakfast buffet was excellent. Special congratulations to the cleaning staff and ladies staff taking care of the breakfast that are really kind. The hotel is located 20 min by bus from the center. The price is good for a 3 star hotel. I would recommend a bit more smiley and happy staff at the reception. Though I give 5 stars to the hotel.

Absolutely awful stay!! How alot of the comments are good is unbelievable, are room was shocking!! We took pictures and put a complaint in which we were able move rooms but still wasn't perfect, I wouldn't even give this hotel a 1 star. Location was good A nice pizza place down the road Burger King- 5 min walk away Shops to get drinks etc to take back your room Apart from the above the hotel is bad. Staff- useless.

If you want a clean room and a hot shower on a morning in a great location, this is the place. The staff are extremely helpful and go the extra mile. On arrival , I left my phone in the taxi, and the staff rallied around for me, and I had it back within the hour. I was travelling with my 7-year-old granddaughter, and they made her feel special teaching her Hungarian words, which she then used to greet everyone. I can thank thank all the team enough. We had a wonderful stay.

I was placed at Room No.304. On entering the floor, you will smell the carpets foul odour. I was disappointed with the room size, its way too small for 2 pax. Moreover, the left side of the bed facing the wall had bed bugs, such incredible huge size. I got several bites on my arm. Its ok for a one day, short stay. The service in terms of cleaning your room (carpeting) is good. However, the bathroom size is incredibly small, I am medium built and had to squeeze my body to get into it. The bathroom taps had limescale on it. The plus point is that its close to the bus station and most of the bus stops right in front of the hotel. At night, you'll hear noises of people screaming. The breakfast was good. The staff are polite. View facing the street. I definitely wouldn't recommend this place.

A nice cheap hotel with nice service, staff are polite and friendly (for Hungarians standards) the rooms are nice and clean, just a bit wear and tear is visible but at the end of the day it's a rooms to sleep in, change and wash before heading back out into the city so it's good value. Yes, there's no kettle in the room. Get over it. That's a UK thing, so don't expect to have it here. There are plenty of coffee places nearly to get a coffee/tea. The rooms are warm, but you can open your windows fully to cool down, oh, and don't expect many options on the TV. Remember, it's just a place to rest/sleep

Not as promised while booking. Breakfast was excellent, but service is bad, with incompetent staff. Rooms are almost dirty, tv shows only two channels. No water in room against as promised.

Only stayed for 3 nights but was unable to sleep properly during them. The beds were far too low to the ground and the mattresses were hard. The breakfast was lovely and the staff friendly

DO NOT STAY HERE!!! worst hotel I have stayed in. My room was dusty, dead bugs and damp. In my friends room there were ants. In my other friends room the shower did not work. We stayed here because we were over for F1. I would rather stay on the streets. Oh and my girlfriend also had to throw her tooth brush out as there was a bug on it... when you check out they don't ask how your stay is it's almost like they know its a poor experience.

The rooms were spacious, clean and tidy. We had a twin room and the beds were in separate rooms, which gave us our own space. The hotel staff were helpful and offered 24/7 service. The hotel is in a quiet area close to the East station. The breakfast was excellent offering a hot choice, scrambled eggs with bacon and sausages/frankfurters, as well as a selection of cold meats, cheese, salad, bread, croissants/pastries, fruit and boiled eggs. I can highly recommend this hotel.

DO NOT STAY HERE. The worst hotel I have ever stayed in. We booked 4 rooms. One- the shower did not work. The next had bugs everywhere, another room was dirty, had dead flies in the wardrobe and smelt of damp. The last hotel room was so small we couldn’t open the door fully to get in due to having no where to put our suitcase. The carpet in the hallway is filthy, it looks more like a hostel. Or worse. When checking out the staff did not ask how our stay was. By far the worst hotel experience I have ever had. I am completely baffled at how good the reviews are for this hotel. STAY AWAY.

Room is good for price. Breakfast was not very fresh so dont have high expectations for that. Located In front of bus that takes u to city center in 15 minutes. 30 mins walk to center/parliament etc. overall our stay was good. Staff is friendly. I was able to do early check in with 15 euros more

Great rooms, lovely staff and very good location. One thing I'd say is breakfast options were good but not many veggie options, and if you're vegan, you'd struggle.

Lovely lady at the reception, she was very helpful and solved some booking issues and helped me print documents . It is in a good location and there is a bus stop in opposite the hotel. About a 7 minute walk down the street to the metro. Breakfast was good. Bathroom was a bit dated, but functional. Overall I recommend it!

Having a hotel just in the center and being not able to advise about parking signs doesnt sounds acceptable. Zero stars for reception - not helpful at all. Receptionist spoke by phone with a friend twice when I was in waiting to ask him a question. Bad culture. Beside that breakfast was poor, partly defrost. Room was ugly and dark. It’s maybe time to update picutres on booking?

Not very friendly staff they could smile a lot more, even if we don't speak each other's language a smile and a nod is welcoming. Perhaps a few Customer Care lessons. More eggs and bacon at breakfast, your English guests would like this. Very Clean rooms, quiet at night and nicely decorated. Good position for getting around Railway station and Metro 10 minutes walk.

very convenient for us commuting to MC Daniel College but the services was not as good as expected. Breakfast was fine but could be much better. entrance needs refurbishments. Lobby is nice and renovated.

My wife and I had a 3 night stay at Star City. It was a comfortable stay with nice breakfast every morning. The location is very convenient. The main railway station is in 5 minute walking distance. The staff are very friendly and helpful. But don't miss to have a drink ,even late at night in the neighborhood bar managed by very friendly Madame X.

  • 3/5 Adriane S. 4 years ago on Google
First off the reception staff is great. There’s no complaints at all about the people who work there. The complaints come from the tiny rooms and amenities. One of the pairs in our group had an ant infestation in their room and unfortunately they couldn’t move their rooms until the next day. The WiFi didn’t work on the upper floors so I had to constantly go down to the lobby to get reliable connection. The bathrooms and A/C need to be updated pretty badly. The fan made such a loud unsettling sound that I had to leave it turned off. The location is within quick walking distance to multiple public transit outlets. The neighborhood seemed neglected and there’s not much to do in the immediate area. Probably would go back for a cheap decent stay.

Clean hotel, well located for public transport links. Pleasant public areas with a coffee bar and breakfast area. Breakfast acceptable. Bedroom small and over heated (needed to leave the window open even when it was -4 outside), but room big enough for a short city break. Staff pleasant and helpful.

The Staff and hotel is lovely. The staff were always helpful. There is buses and metro stations, only an 8 minute walk away from the hotel which are needed to get into the main tourist areas. I would definitely recommend this for everyone except for very elderly people who struggle to walk everywhere. Breakfast was included in our deal which was great. The facilities in the room were perfect, especially the shower. The room was always spotless when we returned after a day out and all the towels were replaced which was brilliant. Also the staff always helped us book different tourist events by getting us tickets etc. Over all 4/5 !

Worst Hotel we've stayed in! The pictures are so deceiving. The staff were so lovely and helpful and the breakfast was acceptable for a 3stars hotel. But the room was far different from the pictures. The room was poorly furnished and needs lighting, the closet is so small for a triple room (we booked 3 beds room, we got a double bed with a single bed). The wc needs renovation and they don't change the bed sheets daily. On top of all the above, we woke up at 3am in the morning on the sound of the TV in our room that turned on suddenly alone, loudly, we turned it off but it kept on turning on again! and this kept on happening during all our stay. The hotel is close to a main metro station and we didn't have any problem with the public transportation access, but the neighborhood is not friendly at night, we encountered drunk guys on our way back one night and they started shouting suddenly and it was so scary. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone!

A lot of food for breakfast, but not a good quality, but it is understandable for the price, quite clean room a lot of space but quite old furniture and very soft bed. It was very warm in the room and in the bathroom which was surprise, because usually hotels are saving money for central heating. There is bus stop opposite to the hotel which is great, but nearest shop is very far. All in all 3* fits. But really very nice staff 👍🏻 So for the price it is ok.

I did really enjoy my stay in the Star City Hotel! Kind and professional staff, silent place, amazingly comfortable location, great breakfast and cozy rooms. Especially I enjoyed the fact that the whole staff speaks English, no matter what position they obtain in the hotel. It makes the stay of foreigners in the hotel really comfortable! Definitely will recommend this place to my friends and other people and will return if it will be an opportunity to visit Budapest again.

6 of my family stayed at the star city hotel in July 2022. I booked 1 double and 1 double with an ajoining room of 2 singles with breakfast included. Food was delicious, location good, price very reasonable and staff very friendly and professional. Check on is 2pm,our flight delayed so was 2am and this was no problem. We would return. Overall, I had a pleasant stay and I do recommend! The state of the room and the hotel in general is very good and clean, the employees friendly, and I would say that the breakfast is quite above average for a 3-stars hotel. The downside for me was that my mattress started to feel too hard in the surface after my thirty night (I stayed for a week). Still, a very good experience!

Friendly staff, room was clean, breakfast was great. Good location near Keleti Pályaudvar (2 min walk) and central Budapest (10 min walk) and also a lot of bus lines nearby that will take you around the city. Recommended!

Clean quiet hotel in neighborhood that is close to heroes square park area breakfast was typical continental food always something to choose, staff helpful & fairly priced ,would use again only issue was shower holder did not work but that wasn't a major issue.

A great place to stay. Just down from the fantastic city park, and 600m from one of the main stations. Regular buses and trams too. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Self service breakfast. The staff make the place, friendly and really helpful. Thank you!

Have just stayed there with my teenage son for three nights. Not exactly the Ritz but for £50 per night, it was worth it. Had a twin room with separate bedrooms. Breakfast was good and included in the price. Staff were really friendly and hotel had great transport links. Wouldn't hesitate to book again.
