Really excellent hostel. The few problems I encountered were this, the AC does not work at all, we asked for them to fix it and they didn’t. It was extremely warm at night even with the windows open. Also, people at the lobby were very loud late at night, and the hostel seems to not care about keeping quiet hours strict. Other than that, it has an amazing location and very good amenities. Overall it was a good stay.

Not your average hostel. Trendy lobby, cheap bar, and fantastic coffee shop. Very clean (they offer daily cleaning, unlike every other hostel I’ve ever stayed at). BEST location (next to a tunnel of rowdy bars & clubs, plus late night eateries, but not loud inside). Check in process was fantastic, they offer daily free walking tours and €14 beer crawls. Breakfast is €6pp daily (toast, meats, panini press, cereal, yogurt, and basic coffee machine). But the paid coffee bar is STELLAR (open 8-16). 26 private rooms + dorm style bunks. All simple, clean, and spacious. Funky smell in the rooms and bathrooms, but we went nose blind to it 30 minutes in, so not the worst thing.

I cannot urge you enough: do NOT stay at Wombat’s City Hostel in Budapest. I have stayed in several hostels all throughout Europe, and wombats city is by far the worst I have stayed. I stayed in a 6 person private room in June 2023 and the living experience was so poor it ruined my experience in Budapest, an otherwise wonderful city. First and most important, the room does not have air conditioning, making relaxing and sleeping in the room completely unbearable. The staff does not have fans or anything of the like to help cool down the rooms, so you are left to overheat for the entirety of your stay. Moreover, the bathroom in our room was disgusting. A terrible smell of sewage was constant in the bathroom from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. There were exposed pipes near the toilet which were loud and unsightly. The hostel provides linens, but forces you to put the linens on the beds yourself, which is only a mild inconvenience but when considered in conjunction with all of the other issues it becomes problematic. The walls are paper thin, so you hear your neighbors all night. The dryers did not work, after running two drying cycles for a load of only a few shirts and socks, my clothes were somehow still soaking wet while being so hot to the touch I nearly burned myself. Please, do not stay in this hostel unless you want to subject yourself to the most uncomfortable stay possible.

Everything was pretty sufficient, but I don’t understand why we need to make our own bed when the price is standard with other hostels. Breakfast was basic, I think €5,90 is a fair price. Location is good. It’s at a place where there are many people all the time so it’s safe. Overall pretty okay. It’s not a bad place but I’d try other hostels next time I’m around.

This location is the best part of my trip. I met great people. I had fun. I paid a reasonable amount. 10/10 would do it again. There were 2-8 people per room, every room had a private bathroom. And a locker. Great location too. Everything was right next to us.

Its a fun place ! Its in the city centre. The rooms are very comfortable. Every room has an attached washroom. The cleanliness is really well. They have options for a paid breakfast which is around 5 euros and the spread is nice. There is a common kitchen where it has good amenities with induction and other stuff. The common area is great, with games and a chill space. The reception is quite equipped and staff is friendly and warm. They guide you with everything. You can definitely plan a stay here if you are in Budapest.

The first thing I noticed was that the staff is very friendly. I went within a big group and during breakfast whenever something was done they would bring extra food immediately. I stayed in a 4 people room and it was very spacious. The material was old but the room was very clean which I really liked. The toilets in the reception were cleaned a lot and it is noticeable , which I think this makes it very clean compared to other hostels. For the reception I asked for guidance for a couple of times and they were very nice and helpful. Would personally recommend.

Wombats always has the most comfortable beds! The room was clean and had nice seating. Location is great, close to loads of bars and clubs, but still within walking distance of the main tourist attractions. Although the lobby is super bright and loud 24/7. Value for money here is unbeatable, would stay here again.

Great place at a good rate. Front desk were able to point out many of the local attractions and restaurants that weren't tourist traps. Recommend a stay here.

it was really good for a group of friends. I liked their breakfast items, because they have a number of options and different stuffs, which was really cool.. including kitchen, a good wifi connection, and a big hall room for having breakfast.

Initially, I was a little cautious about booking Wombat. After reading the reviews, I was a little mixed. But now I wish I would've booked it sooner. It was a pleasant experience. The people and travelers are great, staff is friendly, great location for clubs, 5-10 min walk to bus/location, and nearby good food options. The only cons were that the restrooms are in the rooms. So, this means that they are not cleaned regularly. Depending on if your in a private room or in dorms with 6-8 the restrooms can be dirty. I was only there for a night, so it was not too big of an issue. Additionally, yes, it can be noisy at night with the clubs nearby, but it still seemed like the others and myself were able to get a good night's sleep. I would book Here again, the only thing preventing from a 5 star are the restrooms, but that would be a hard one to tackle as it's in the actual rooms and I suppose the staff can't always just come in to clean it up. Depends on who is also in your dorm. But good Job Wombat. It was great overall, and with great facilities/location.

Quite nice area but there are some points i could not enjoy the stay, the bunk bed was bit shaky and the bed sheets in my room has a hole like not properly check. Otherwise, this place quite clean. Hope it happened only on my stay.

Huge hostel, they have some activities during the week. Breakfast is good but not free, around 5-6 euros. Rooms are good, they have an elevator. It might be noisy if you get a room facing the main street. Best thing is the location, you can walk virtually no anywhere. 8 min metro stop.

I paid for three nights, stayed for two. I would not recommend booking though their site you will get over charged for things you don't want. They aren't super accommodating on that front either. Stayed in room 228 which has something horribly wrong with the bathroom, the smell of the whole room the entire time was that of untreated sewage. They have 120 rooms across 4 floors, you would expect them to be able to keep them all to a passing standard. The location was good.

I have mixed feelings on this one. The good sides are the overall facilities (very clean, spacey and organized), kind staff members. The downside is the atmosphere - no social atmosphere at all, the place looks empty and a bit sad. If you're looking for a safe and nice place to stay I would recommend it but if you're looking to meet new people and socialize I'd recommend you look for other options.

Really neat and organised rooms and the receptionist (Veronica) was really kind! Place has a nice lobby and is ideal for meeting new people. The all you can eat breakfast was a nice addition!

For one side, great value for money, centrally located hostel. I stayed in a female 4 bed bedroom, the room was spacious and had its private toilet. On the other hand, the bed was not so comfortable, no noise isolation and the toilet was smelling really bad. If you're staying, I don't recommend you pay for breakfast, as you can have in the facilities nearby amazing breakfast for about less or the same price.

My stay at the Budapest hostel was enjoyable, thanks to its excellent location. However, I found it relatively expensive for the amenities provided. The central setting is a major plus, but the overall cost didn't quite align with the budget-friendly expectation.

We shared a 4 man room as a group of 4 and it was very spacious. Everything was in good working order and the place was nice and clean The service is excellent, the staff here are very friendly and helpful at all times The location is SUPERB. Right in the heart of everything you're going to want to do. It's very close to some excellent bars (blokk is 5 min walk and very cheap, and simpla is also 5 mins walk and one of my favourite bars ever!). Close to good transport links, loads of street food and restaurants. Excellent.

Staff are such great people, they'll help you with literally anything you need. Saturday nights are a bit expensive, but so is every other hostel in Budapest. Worth it. Very clean and comfortable with an awesome atmosphere!

It's a hostel at a very reasonable price. Decently clean and very spacious. Central location makes it ideal. There is a kitchen for breakfast, but I did not try it. Would stay again and recommend. However, I wouldn't trust the place with valuable items based on other reviews.

  • 2/5 Najam M. 2 years ago on Google
It was very good once but with the implementation of new strange rules; they messed up everything, the kitchen closes after 10pm, those who come late from work, they don’t care about them, All the culinary have been removed from the kitchen; so, you have to deposit 5000 every time to get the basket of culinary. The worst thing is that your things get stolen from the fridge!

This hostel is great if you’re looking to have fun in Budapest and take advantage of the night-life. The location makes accessing clubs and great food quick and convenient. However, I would not recommend for an extended stay or over a week for a student group. The later night crowd invites a broad spectrum of criminal activity, (nothing to do with this hostel, just the location) and the bedlam starts eating into critically needed sleep.

  • 4/5 Charles R. 11 months ago on Google
Good & cheap. Clean, stylish interior. Plenty of space. Stayed two nights. Central location makes city centre access minutes on foot. Gets a little busy, many groups coming & going. My 6 bed dorm' everybody was respectful with in reason, everybody is doing their own thing.

Rooms clean, bathrooms clean, stayed in a 4 person room. DONT use the kitchen. The kitchen is unclean and your food isn’t safe. Talked to multiple people who had food stolen or just destroyed. We also experienced this where most of our food was taken and our entire 15pack of egg’s destroyed and left. No cameras in the kitchen and this should change. Staff didn’t do anything which is understandable as they can’t determine who’s at fault but also said they would clean it. Its been a couple hours and staff still hasn’t cleaned it, allowing raw egg to drip down onto other peoples food. 6 hour update from original posting: the eggs are still smashed in the fridge. DO NOT USE THE KITCHEN AT THIS HOSTEL.

The hostel is in an excellent location and the staff were very helpful. The rooms were very clean and the shower facilities were great. The hostel has a massive common space and large guest kitchen. My only slight criticism would be that the hostel lacks a bit of character and has a hotel feel to it.

One of the best hostels I've come across - excellent facilities such as a bar, pool table and a kitchen you can access. The rooms are super tidy and have their own bathrooms with showers. You can purchase towels and breakfast for extra, plus there is a fridge stocked with a selection of beverages. Friendlyish staff.

Big hostel, quiet in the social areas and did not appear an easy friendly vibe, the room was only average, was dark and just functional. Squeaky beds. The location is in a lively part of town, though not scenic.

Amazing location and friendly staff, but don't pick it for the laundry. Dryer takes forever (3+ hrs for 1/4 load). Showers are meh, but the location makes it a would stay again. Extremely loud location, and the vibe of the hostel was excellent.

Nice, clean big rooms. All facilities were there for a comfortable stay. I don't know why the bar was closed while everything else is open. First time it happened to me that I didn't talk to a single person while staying in a hostel as all activities were closed.

I stayed here for three nights. In general my stay was nice. People at the reception are very friendly and helpful. The room was pretty clean and comfortable. The hostel is located close to the center. The toilets were pretty clean. But it would be nice if they can prepare bed sheets, pillow and blankets and maybe even include it the rent. Besides that I highly recommend this hostel.

Rooms were fine considering it’s a hostel. I was in a single locked room with only myself and my partner. I had an expensive piece of make-up stolen from my room (assumed from housekeeping as no one else had any access to our room). I worked hard to earn this product. We turned our room upside down searching for the item & I’d used it that morning and once returned to re-use the item that afternoon it was missing. We spoke to front desk and they were somewhat helpful and documented that we did not want any further room service as we did not trust them. They confirmed this with us twice. However, 2 days later we were laying in our bed / getting out of the shower & housekeeping entered our room abruptly without knocking! We stated we did not want any further room service and that we had asked continuously for no more room service (had we not been there they would have just come in!) I’m very frustrated that my item was stolen, and that housekeeping continued to come in even though they knew not to. It’s so unprofessional and I would hate to think of how much else they have stolen from other travellers. Disgusting and criminal behaviour.

Amazing location in Jewish Quarter. Stuff at the reception is super nice and polite. There is nice common area on the ground floor with well equipped common kitchen. Atmosphere there is very nice and relaxed. Rooms were well equipped, had also air conditioning.

Overall the best, no complaints- highly recommended !!! Costs: 18 Euros/ Night 7 Euros cleaning clothes(including the drier + washing detergent) 5 Euros breakfast/day (i didn't opt, can't say) I am Solo travelling and booked the Hostel for 5 nights. 1)Great location: a) 3 min walk from Tram station (and 20 min away from Train Station- Budapest Nyugati Train St.) b) All the party places are just nearby, so no need to worry ;) (Party lane is just opp. to the hostel, lots of pubs, karaoke places, gentleman's club ) c) Grocery stores/ restaurants/ food options all nearby. 2) Great Service: Reception very friendly, bedroom clean, cleaning stuff regularly clean the rooms and Washrooms (hand shower was the best, the water pressure is the highlight haha). 3) In-house tours: I took one bingo pub crawl (16 Euros)- 3 different pubs, 1 welcome drink each pub with one of the best night club at the end, I had so much fun.You can ask more in reception. 4) Great Infrastructure: 2 separate lifts, large kitchen with all the necessities (utensils, 4x4 stoves, 2 refrigerators), extremely huge waiting cum lobby with cushioning seats, tables and sofas. e) Others: strong wifi, in room lockers facility the best. One of the best hostel experience in my Europe travel (5 Stars). Just go for it.

This hostel was alright but it has a few glaring issues that really drag it down, to the point where I had to move accommodation after one night. I’ve travelled to over 30 countries and it’s the only place I’ve ever stayed in where I worried about the hygienic safety of the hostel. The Reception team were fantastic: friendly, efficient, and very welcoming. The room was passable, however the smell of sewage coming from the bathroom was terrible! It may be that the infrastructure of the building isn’t robust enough to support the number of facilities the hostel has? The private rooms might be fine, but many of the dorm rooms seem to have this issue to a worrying degree. In any case, I decided to move accommodation because of it. Even as I was getting ready to leave in the morning, a housekeeper came in and gave me an incredibly dirty look before swearing under her breath (I understand enough Hungarian to tell). The cleanliness situation was completely inadequate, which is a shame because it would have otherwise been quite a nice hostel.

Kind receptionist, they helped me call an Uber a few times and gave food recommendations. Our biggest complaint is that it smelled like sewage when walking in and in the hallways the entire stay. Other reviews state this as well, so it seems like it is a staple. Be sure to bring perfume for your room. Also after traveling from America all we wanted to do was shower upon arrival however there were zero towels available. Guess how we dried our bodies? We used the pillow cases. On top of perfume, be sure to bring a towel for your body.

Was staying there for two nights, and there was no light in the room for both of them. Nice location though, has lockers, socket near the bed. Bathroom and bedsheets seemed clean. 24 hour reception. Cheap breakfast - 1000ft, but I didn't try it, so can't judge)

I'm giving 4 stars because I think there can be improvement. All in all it's a great hostel. Really enjoyed my time there. The best thing is the staff, especially the guy with the big smile, he was very funny. We stayed for two nights. The first day we arrived the one out of two elevators was out of order and so was one of the three vending machines (the one selling water). The next day the second vending machine was also out of order. That day was also a full house so the one elevator not working made the situation worse. I also checked the laundry room and saw that the majority of the machines was not working, something I didn't need but could matter to others. I didn't have breakfast there so I can't comment on that.

Great hostel. Staff super friendly, good cmubal area and great kitchen. All other people in room were nice as well. Amazing location right int he centre of the city and clean rooms. Only issue was it was a bit loud at the weekends but only to be expected due to location. Would happily stay again.

Great location and decent rooms. I like that the lockers were provided and the key card was used for them. Bathroom could have been cleaned a bit more often. But good location for bars, markets and the Jewish Quarter. Near a lot of buses too.

Excellent location for walking places, close to ruin bars and clubs, as well as culture and the main square. Felt safe walking to the hostel late at night as young female travellers. Staff were lovely and helpful. Had a 4 bed ensuite which was good but the bathroom floors got dirty easily. Only thing I would say is the common room was a bit dead, I think its because their bar is currently closed due to covid. Lockers were great because they were big and open with the room key. And great value for money

Good place, nice location. Very big hostel so it's hard to make friends as everyone kinda just groups up from their rooms. I noticed the cleaner didn't change the sheets or swap duvets, each time someone new was to come stay in the room they'd brush the sheet off and refold the Duvet, didn't replace anything, wonder how many people's sweat in summer is just brewing on these linen. Staff were friendly though

Perfect to stay in budapest! Location is perfect! Bus for the airport in the street. Friendly staff! Only thing is that there is no window in the bathroom and it's a bit humid and not so healthy but really just a detail

Nice, neat and clean hostel. The staff is welcoming and very helpful. There's Wi-Fi6 all over the place and there's gaming area , a big kitchen equipped with soda vending machines. This place even has an ATM of itself. Very comfortable place to be in and it's located right at the city centre of Budapest. Must stay at this place. I loved it and I'm damn sure everyone else out there would also. Love from India 🇮🇳

This hostel is excellent! The location is absolutely perfect, and close to all necessary transport. The staff were very friendly and assisted me with all my needs. I met amazing people and they told me they have stayed at Wombats on multiple occasions which speaks to how great it is! Only thing to note is how humid the rooms are, I would try to carry a pocket fan or something to keep you cool! Overall I will definitely visit this location again, it made Budapest that much better for me!

The toilets were so-so. The service was good, and the receptionist gave us good recommendations for local food (we may not have discovered Retro Langos otherwise). The kitchen could have cleaner utensils (I guess the cleanliness depends on the current hostel guests), and one counter was closed off for some reason.

We had a group booking for 40 students at the Wombat’s City Hostel in Budapest for four nights in February. From start to finish, the staff at the hostel were extremely helpful and accommodating. Our students loved the communal area which was large and spacious and featured a pool table and table football, as well as comfortable sofas and more private areas. The laundry was handy and easy to use and the students also enjoyed the (soft) drinks machines and communal kitchen with cooking facilities and fridges. We had a plentiful buffet breakfast each day with a selection of bread, cooked meats, cheese, cereal and fruit as well as coffee and juice options. The location is excellent with bars and shops on your doorstep. As with any capital city, you need to be aware of what’s going on in the streets outside but the hostel itself felt safe and secure and the reception staff challenged any outsiders who tried to come in to use the communal toilets. We would definitely come to this hostel again and I would like to thank Veronica, Ricardo and the rest of the Wombat’s team for their help throughout our stay. The students had a trip to remember! Köszönöm!

The airport shuttle bus 100E drops only a few minutes walk away from the hostel. (30mins travel) Very useful. There is a socket and reading light next to each bed and I had a change of bedding on my second day. I feel that this is due to there being no bed bookings and you choose your own, so they don't know which bed is still in use. There's a danger you may lose your bed if you don't leave things on it. There was a shared bathroom with a toilet in it and a locker provided in the room too. I brought my own towel as this was not provided. There is shower gel provided in the shower. A really central hostel, though they're is a hub of bars directly opposite, so they're is a lot of noise until very late which means I had disrupted sleep both nights. Plenty of takeaway places close for quick bites to eat and lots of café spots close too. This hostel is also very close to get to the main sights and starts of walking tours also if you'd be doing this too.

They keep the common area like corridor warm but room cold. Very odd. Bathroom does smell quite a bit. Apart from the room, the rest were great.

Excellent hostel with shared kitchen, laundry machines and common space. It's perfect for travelers on a budget. If you have the single room, bring some extra towers if you have an extended stay. The room comes with towels but towel refresh is not available. You'd have to do your laundry or pay for fresh towels. The location is pretty good too! Everything is walking distance from local cell provider for sim cards to public transportation.

Didn't enjoy my stay. 8 person mixed dorm. Bathroom is in the room rather than the hallway so every time someone has a shower, you hear it. There are clubs very nearby so its loud until 2 or 3 am. If you want a quiet hostel for an early night, this is not it. Positives are the lockers are secure. Socket above the bed. Location is convenient for walking or transport. Fast friendly check in/out. Reasonably clean. If you're out partying then it's a good choice. If not then maybe stay somewhere else

I wasn't expecting that this wombat branch is not as good as the others, we had difficulties in the room we reserved that was different than the online booking, the air conditioning wasn't good, the sheets were having residuals of hair for other residents which means it wasn't totally clean. The only good parts is that we found a place to stay the night, and the room was large.

The usual scarce facilities of a hostel, but friendly staff and each room with its own bathroom. But most of all: perfectly situated to hit the sights or the nightlife - at a reasonable price at that.
