This is a simple hostel that is basic with a good location. The service from staff ranges to ok to fairly good (the guy with the longer black hair was the best and most helpful staff I interacted with). The breakfast buffet does leave something to be desired. Would be improved if staff could keep flies off the food (use a plastic cover?). I appreciated access to the kitchen and eating utensils. The hostel could use a bit of an upgrade at least in terms of color scheme. Just a coat of fresh paint in more contemporary colors (ditch the sea green), some wall art and modern (even if second hand) furniture could refresh the look. My main gripe is unfortunately I have to report that the place does have bed bugs. On my second night/third morning, I woke up with several bites on my ankle, thigh and arm. I started reacting very strongly to the bites that continued to develop into major rashes and itching that left my skin extremely tender. There was a sign in the elevator that mentioned that "maintenance spraying" would take place in a few days, so I don't think this is the hostels first encounter with this issue. My recommendation would be to remove the old, ugly "headboards" for each bed that are secured to the wall. Because they are so old, there are thin gaps between the boards and the wall, but because they are permanently adhered to the wall, spraying and checking for pests can't be done. The bugs are probably hiding back there because I didn't see evidence of them on the mattress (which was covered with a mattress protector). FYI, mattress protectors do not prevent bed bugs, they prevent infestation of the mattress by bed bugs, which will just hide elsewhere. Housekeeping needs to also vacuum every room at every turnover EVERY TIME to get any eggs. Finally, get rid of the old soft, upholstered furniture and get some hard plastic furniture, even it it's cheap. No doubt bugs were hiding in the cracks of those cushions. The chair in my room was ragged, dusty and at least 10 years old. It looked like free furniture you find on a street curb. Hope the hostel resolves this issue. It was otherwise ok for the price.

Very nice hostel. They have really cheap beds in dorms. I got almost all I needed here, and it's quite clean and tidy. The service is good and the receptionists are very helpful. They could for example print my tickets without any hassle or extra payment. You get really big lockers which is great, and the bunk beds are separated by thin walls and curtains, so you can get a bit of privacy. Unfortunately, they don't have a washing service. There's a place just around the corner though. One of the shower's were broken and the bed sheets were quite small and didn't really fit the bed. All in all, I can definitely recommend.

Doesn't allow guest visitors to visit my private room even with registration. I had a visitor for under 1h, they kept the hour on camera and are convinced that I owe them an extra 10€ for the night. My room smells like sewage most of the time I enter. Closets have locks, but the hotel doesn't provide the keys. No public area except a small open air courtyard so people aren't making friends. No drinking water other than from the old bathroom faucet. Rooms have no fan or air conditioning in 37°C weather so only option is to open the window, but then you choose between letting in mosquitoes vs. sweating a river. Electric outlets are far from bed so bring an extension chord. The plus side here was the price, but that's no longer a benefit due to additional charges for water, visitors etc. It is walkable to many tourist sights.

No reviews mentioned this when i checked in, but there is no air conditioning in the rooms. That means you get no sleep when its 35+ degrees outside. I hope this gets improved. Otherwise hygiene etc. was fine for the 2 people room.

Stayed in a double room, which was clean, with adequate heating and good WiFi. Staff were friendly and helpful. There is an outdoor space for smokers and bike racks there as well. The breakfast is a bit limited. The orange juice, coffee, and cereal are fine, could do with toast to go with eggs. Overall a great location and don't put off by the hostel name.

Writing this review while sited on one of MP Hostel’s beds and I really cannot understand some of these positive reviews. Firstly, let’s start with the positive, the location, not much to say, it is indeed good, as it is very central, and that’s it for the positives. Now the negatives, everything else, it starts with the building itself, it is 100 years old, nothing inside this building is less than 20 years old and it was never remodeled or updated with the idea of it being an hostel. The rooms are terrible, you have uncomfortable mattresses, shaking beds, non fitted/stained sheets, outlets across the room, no individual lighting, the cheapest wc you can have, where you can’t even fit in the shower, the shower curtain is too small, so you end up making a mess in the bathroom. They don’t give you any towels, besides the ones for the shower, so you end up with a puddle in the middle of the bathroom and you have nowhere to dry your hands/face. The most significant problem, which is the heat dilemma, you can choose between sleeping on a 35°C room or sleeping in a 28°C with the windows open, I can tell you there are no correct answer, because you either sweat heavily until the morning or you slightly sweat, but with all the bugs and street noises. In all the hostels I’ve slept, this was truly the first one, where I was really unhappy to return too. Other negative things, in two nights, I’ve killed 3 spiders on my bed, I have a black/red stain in my pillow, there is zero social interactions and only one common space, which is always empty. Even the suggested laundromat by the hostel was terrible and me and my friends said “we won’t enter there”, so yeah really happy to be leaving tomorrow and to never return here. Do not trust the positive comments

Stayed here for a couple of times. Generally the place is okay. Not too clean cause it’s a bit old but no major issues. Pillows are not that comfortable to be honest. They have male and female rooms which are great for me. Kitchen is available to cook your own food. The main highlight of this hostel is probably the location which is kinda central.

I stayed for two weeks for the first time in the summer of 2022. It was very clean and the location was great. I visited again this fall and stayed for four nights. The private room was even proactively cleaned every day! Thank you so much 😊

We had a great experience staying at this hostel. It was very rare to be greeted by a friendly face in Budapest, but the young lady at this hostel's reception truly made us feel welcome. Thank you so much for welcoming us, taking an interest in our country and for sharing insights about your country. I liked that the dorms had curtains and there were 2 toilets and two showers inside the door. The lockers had ample space. The garden area was big and so was the kitchen and dining area. Note that the kitchen doesn't have a stove though. Thank you to the receptionist and the maintenance attendant who were kind enough to organize a laptop charger for me when I couldn't find an adapter since the stores were closed for the holidays. It was a very kind gesture and I'm truly grateful. Thank you for making provision for a clothes drying rack as well. I will definitely stay here again when in Budapest, the hospitality was truly amazing and heartwarming. Thank you.

Was very happy with my stay! The rooms have bunks set up as small cubicles with curtains, like little 2 bed rooms. It is warm due to no AC, our stay was in September and it cooled down enough at night to be fine with windows open. Toilets were cleaned regularly, room was clean. Each bed had its own light and power socket. As an introvert, I loved the complete lack of social interaction, a bed and no one to bother me! The common area downstairs always had small groups chatting though. As with any hostel, I would recommend brining earplugs because there will always be someone snoring - it's inevitable and complaining about noise when it is to be expected seems silly to me. Bedsheets were indeed not fitted and turned into a bit of a mess by morning, but they were clean and tidying up for a minute solves the problem. The breakfast buffet offered for 8€ sucked though. Coffee was very watery, rolls were dry, eggs were cold. Better off stuffing yourself at a local grocery store for the same money, or go to a nice Café, you can get a sandwich and an actually good coffee for less.

Amazing location, high quality rooms for a cheap price! Every bed has a big locker, you can rent towels and cook in the kitchen if you want to. The staff is friendly and helpful, speaks English as well.

Great place to go if you want to meet other travellers in Budapest. Rooms are simple, but clean and as expected. The location is quite central, both for attractions and nightlife, and the people I spoke with at the counter were nice :)

Rooms are really dirty. The bed I stayed in was not clean. Also very stuffy rooms. The beds were so dusty I coughed until morning

Worst place ever, just don’t go there, bed bugs, dirty, rude people, actually the worst place that I’ve been. So if you want to have an awful experience, just book here some nights.

Pros: + Very good location!!! A lot of nice restaurants and street food stalls are nearby + Very spacious even in 12-bed room, with a big locker + with hot water in shower rooms + the cleaner is very nice. She noticed me put a lot of clothes on top of my blanket when she cleaned the room in the morning. She gave a one more blanket. + one charger plug by bedside Cons: - I felt itchy when I slept. I felt the blanket was not that clean and too thin - no hook in shower room - no stove in kitchen. Only 2 microwaves. - boiling kettles are not clean. Dare not to use

A nice cozy accomodation in the Jewish quarter. Public transport is nearby and the beds are cozy. They do provide locks to secure your luggage. There are many bars and food joints nearby

First time in a hostel and it receded all my expectations. Very spacious room with privacy due to the curtain seperating the bunker beds. The closets were very spacious and so was the corridor. It provided a desk and chairs. The bathroom was big and clean enough! 24h reception very friendly and helpful (thank you guys). The kitchen was ok i wish it had more cooking supplies (maybe a stovetop?). It was always very warm in the rooms! Such a plus to come back to a warm home. TOP location, central, near everything and very nice party area with lots of restaurants, clubs, bars, street food and everything you need to have a good time. Perfect price, too Overall such a great experience

Had great experience at this hostel. Overwall was almost the cheapest in the town (or at least that central area). Everyone was friendly and we enjoyed the paintings

Stayed here for 4 nights in a shared twin room. First the room smelt awful.. but it kind of went away. But then it came back, really bad. Also, it was 30-35 degrees when we stayed and the window did not open much so it was awfully warm as there is no AC. The receptionists dealt with this quite smoothly and we were given a new room quickly, which we appreciate. If you are on a budget, maybe stay here, but if you can afford something else.. Decent location though.

The place was fine, very quiet mainly older people here during the time we stayed. I wouldn’t recommend if you’re looking for the social aspect of travelling or you are young and travelling alone. The bar isn’t open however there was one advertised online. No common room either or kitchen to prepare food which wasn’t ideal

The room was private for each bunk bed with a curtain for privacy. The showers and bathrooms were clean. There were outlets next to the bed which was helpful. You do not have to return or put your own sheets on the bed so that was a little worrisome. The lockers were very large and spacious which was nice for storing your stuff. The lockers came with provided keys with your room key. I would recommend bringing earplugs because of loud snorers along with some noise coming from outside. Wifi did not work well in the room (aka Instagram took a while to load if you know what I mean) and the doors were overall pretty squeaky. The people at the reception were very kind and remembered faces. The hostel also provided many options of things to see around Budapest and setting up vouchers for different activities. I felt safe and they provide an airport shuttle if you pay for it. The location was nice. If I come back to Budapest, I would stay here. People of many different ages stayed here as well.

Pros: -Conveniently located near the city center. -Good staff. -Spacious lockers to keep your stuff. Cons: -Kitchenette seemed really small. Just one person can enter at a time! - Bed area was a bit dark and I think I felt bedbugs on the pillow

I booked a bed in a mixed dorm. The bed I got was the lower berth in a 2-bed bunk with separations from the nearby bunks. So basically it's like having your own shared room, not the usual 20 people in a room you often see. Loved that. The location is very good with easy access to metros and buses. The neighbourhood is littered with a lot of good food options as well. Or if you choose beer/wine, there are a number of bars quite close-by (3 -4 min walking) as well. The place is also quite close to Keleti, the main railway station. The place has a lift and is quite clean, especially the bathroom. The WiFi works just fine in the rooms. The reception is open 24 hours so that's also a plus. Overall a great option if you're in Budapest.

Only positive things to say about this place! fine price, cheap breakfast (not included but it does not cost much), good beds. The staff was sweet and helpful - we had a really nice time here. It is not a party hostel and it was quiet and relaxed while we were there. There is no communal kitchen or great opportunities/rooms to socialize with other guests - a small minus but overall a nice place.

  • 4/5 Emilia M. 5 years ago on Google
Place is generally clean and nice, staff is helpful. Good location. One minus for common kitchen - it's really tiny (2 people is max capacity), there is one pot, one pan and suspiciously looking electric kettle. Also they say that tea is for free but there was no tea in the kitchen :)

This hostel has pretty much every amenity you’d find in a hotel - a comfortable bed, free towels, water bottles, the whole shebang. Each bunk is enclosed in it’s own room and each dormitory has couches and desks decorated with reading lamps and potted plants. Great experience. The only improvements would be installing a hair dyer and fixing the cabinet hinges. 408-2 squeaks very loudly!

Did not know that the check-in is only after 2pm, arrived over 2 hours too early and therefore had to wait. I couldn't find any information on the website regarding check-in and check-out times, only that there is 24h reception. We had a private room on the fifth floor which was relatively clean. It was very hot in the room as there is no AC, but that's okay for the cheap price. Overall an OK hostel, would come here again but please put the exact check-in times on the website as we were not the only guests that did not know about them.

Great location for a nice price. It is located on paralel street with ruin bars and 5 minute walk from metro and bus stop. I stayed at mix room with 8 or 10 beds. It was quite clean and spacious room. Reception is very friendly.

average hostel. not too bad, not too good. check in is at 2pm, we didn't know that until we arrived there. private rooms were clean. quiet at night. unfortunately it was very hot because there is no ac. in the bathroom it smelled a little weird.

  • 4/5 Ric A. 1 year ago on Google
Good value for money . But if you want a room ( no bunk bed ) at the same price there is a few ones around ( private room ) Rooms are clean , spacious and there is a locker / wardrobe which is important when you have a bunk bed option. Reception waiting time is very long … Depends when , but I had to wait 45 min for check in . WIFI not working in room , which is annoying if you wish to work ( no inside table for remote workers )

  • 4/5 Samuel C. 1 year ago on Google
Clean hostel located within walking distance of many of the main attractions in Budapest. Lockers in the rooms are big and they provide keys for each guest. Friendly staff and a 24 hour desk also make it easier for arriving/departing at night.

  • 1/5 A Google U. 1 year ago on Google
Staff are extremely rude. The guy at checkin was actually nice. The guy in the 4 bed dorm threatened 3 others in the room, staff did nothing. This place is EXTREMELY old. Pillows are flat, beds are harder than a rock, comforters have never been washed. FOREWARN, find a different hostel. This hostel has so much potential if small investments are made, and proper staff hired.

I got a twin room for myself for 2 nights here and it did the job. The location is good. The staff were friendly and welcoming. There is a garden to chill. The location is very good in the city centre. Wifi worked well. I couldn't open window for fresh air which wouldn't be good in the hot summer with no aircon. The bed wasn't perfectly comfy. Breakfast did not look appetising so I didn't try.

  • 2/5 Chris D. 1 year ago on Google
Super uncomfortable room for summer time; scratchy sheets, terrible pillows, no ac/fan. Really bad combo. Staff is nice but is average. Do not go above and beyond like other hostels we've been to. Great central location though.

  • 5/5 David T. 1 year ago on Google
Bit rough on the edges, paint falling off, and cupboards chipped but that doesn’t matter because you get a cheap room with clean and comfortable bed with an en-suite bathroom, and free breakfast (basic) when booked direct, in a good location. Reception staff really nice. Not a party hostel, but nice hangout area in the courtyard. Towel included.

  • 3/5 Asif J I. 1 year ago on Google
Hostel was good but it requires some update and renovation. Reception was helpful and well present their duties. Location and services are also average . Improve breakfast. Make community more alive .
