One of the best history museums I've ever been to. Buda Castle itself is very impressive, but the museum was world class; the exhibits are all staged in the original excavated sections of the castle, so as you move lower you get into the original parts of the building that went up in the 14th century. How cool to learn about how water was brought into the castle while standing in one of the original underground cisterns. This is definitely a must see attraction when visiting Budapest, especially if you enjoy history like me!

A very nice museums on a reasonable price. Contains some bareliefs and paintings. It makes the part of Buda castle and gives some memorable views and interiors. The collection is somewhat chaotic for my taste, but nothing grave. Unfortunately some rooms with very nice stained glass windows were closed or not accessible for public. Don’t leave you bag in the locker this gives you a possibility to go out on some upper floors. Worth visiting, but start from the lower floor to follow the history line.

BUDAPEST HISTORY MUSEUM The Budapest History Museum is housed within a section of the Buda Castle building. Its entrance is located directly opposite the arched gateway, guarded by four lions, which leads to the enclosed Lion’s Court. The museum's layout is intricate and not particularly well-organized, lacking a defined path for visitors to follow. Therefore, keep in mind not to overlook descending to the lower floors where reconstructed parts of the Medieval castle can be found, most notably the Castle chapel. On the whole, you won't encounter many captivating exhibits within the Museum, aside from scattered artifacts and, of course, the fully reconstructed St. Stephen’s Hall on the first floor. The museum space itself resembles a somber public service office from the early 1980s, given that, as you already know, these aren't the authentic chambers of the Castle. If you possess a Budapest Card, you finally have the chance to put it to use here, as it's one of the few places where it's accepted.

The experience will be more enriched if the Museum was opened. Unfortunately during my visit it's closed. My pictures are all from outside the premises. I must say that the place is as grand as to hold a museum inside. So the ratings are based only on the surrounding areas.

Very confusing place! I've been to hundreds of museums and, apart from Budapest, never felt so lost The room are not numbered, you are provided with a "map" and good luck finding your way with that, I'm sure I missed a lot of the exhibition because the curation is so chaotic In terms of artefacts there is hardly anything here, a few marble elements and some limestone allegedly from the 15th century, I don't know if those are replica or originals The staff hardly know any foreign languages so they will not be able to help with anything, the price of the ticket at 10 freaking euros if you want to take pictures is outrageous

Visit The Hungarian National Gallery is an unforgettable experience. It is well known that Budapest is full of museums and galleries, as well as many temporary exhibitions in different categories. That was the way this time. In the National Gallery was the exhibition of artwork from Frida Kahlo. We were thrilled. The building of the Hungarian National Gallery - located in several wings of the Buda Castle - is a stunning piece of art, as are the views over the city and the river Danube from the Dome terrace. Seeing the masterpieces of Hungarian fine arts offering insights into the history of Hungary, every-day life and rural landscapes through beautiful paintings, everyone can only delight, as we are. There is also a collection of masterpieces of international art. From the time of the Baroque and Renaissance. Art lovers can easily spend half a day here because of a handful of works of art.

I'm sure the Palace part is very beautiful but for lack of sufficient explanation, I missed the guided tour, paid for, they don't want me to move on to the next one, allow me to come back, or reimburse me. Scandalous. The place is a maze, in the bad sense of the word, you can easily miss rooms. So I'm evaluating my experience, not the place.

You can spend a whole day reading about the history of Budapest or just make a quick tour in 2 hours. There is a musical experience area where you can play the instruments and one section offers modern interactive fun experience.

It’s an ok museum, there were not a lot of things to see. It is divided in three floors. From the bottom floor you can still go down to see the ruins of the antique castle. Guided tours are also available. You can enter for free with the Budapest card. Closed on Mondays.

(Translated by Google) In the southernmost wing of the palace you will find a visitor-friendly exhibition presenting the history of the city from prehistoric times to the present day, presenting a glimpse of the glorious and sad history of our capital with a modern approach and a wealth of interactive tools. From the end of 2013, a new permanent exhibition will be connected to the collection, where the history of the Buda Castle Palace can be found from 1686 to the present. The entrance to the museum is the so called. It opens from a lion's courtyard, the entrance of which is protected by warlike stone lions. The main entrance of the National Széchényi Library overlooks the same courtyard. (Original) A palota legdélibb szárnyában találjuk a város történetét az őskortól napjainkig bemutató látogatóbarát kiállítást, mely modern szemlélettel, rengeteg interaktív eszközt felvonultatva igyekszik bemutatni fővárosunk dicsőséges és szomorú történetének mindennapjait. 2013 végétől egy új állandó kiállítás kapcsolódik a gyűjteményhez, amelyen a Budavári Palota történetét 1686-tól napjainkig ismerhetjük meg. A múzeum bejárata az ún. Oroszlános udvarból nyílik, mely bejáratát harcias kőoroszlánok védik. Ugyanerre az udvarra néz az Országos Széchényi Könyvtár főbejárata is.

It's a nice museum, bigger than I expected, in a peculiar building. Animals, plants, agricultural utensils, historical pictures, an exhibition about horses. Many captions are in English, too. Some displays look a bit dated and the general atmosphere feels stuffy. Still, it was a nice visit. There's normally a ticket, but if you visit on an Hungarian national holiday then entrance is free. I got to enter without purchasing a ticket by chance on Pentecost day, since there were events and exhibitions to celebrate.

Absolutely love the museums. So much of work must have went into putting so many relics in one place. Maintaining them. All of it inside this very beautiful Vajdahunyad Castle. There is a reasonable entrance fee and for some part there is guide. For others you can read and observe. It's all so easy to navigate. All of it has been organised so systematically. :)

(Translated by Google) The exhibition on bow making is amazing. I can only recommend. Half of the historical overview, all typical bow types are on display, made by professional bow makers, probably working pieces. The experimental archeological demonstration with the buried bow of Sándor Paku was quite an exceptional sight. The other side shows a fairly accurate presentation of the bow-making process. Thorough, detailed, informative. (Original) Az íjkészítésről szóló kiállítás bámulatos. Csak ajánlani tudom. A fele történeti áttekintés, minden jellemző íjtipus ki van állítva, profi íjkészítők csinálták őket, valószínűleg működő darabok. A kísérleti régészeti bemutató Paku Sándor elásott íjával egészen kivételes látvány volt. A másik félben az íjkészítés folyamatának egészen pontos bemutatása látható. Alapos, részletes, informatív.

Interesting enough and a good history lesson of Hungary, Budapest, and the castle. The front staff were rather lackluster. The museum was supposed to open at 10, but didn't until 10:20. I tried to pay with a credit card and they said it was cash only. So I tried to pay with a 10,000 Forint bill. He told me "smaller", except that was all I had. He just shrugged his shoulders and said "sorry, no enter then". Thankfully I was with a group and someone let me borrow some coins. It's 2020- there's no reason not to take cards. And if you're going to be cash only, for god's sake be able to make change!

The Vajdahunyad Castle (Hungarian Vajdahunyad vára) is a historicized castle in the city park in the Hungarian capital Budapest. However, it is not quite as historic as it seems. It was built in 1896 as part of the Budapest Millennium Exhibition, initially as a temporary structure, and was not built in its present form until 1901-1907. Since 1907 it has been home to the Hungarian Agricultural Museum. Please do not be surprised, there is a castle in Transylvania known by the same name. It is the family castle of the Hunyadi family, Hunedoara Castle. So it is a reminiscence to Hungary's probably most famous king that the artificial castle in the city forest has got such a famous name. Vajdahunyad Castle is located near Heroes' Square in the centre of the Budapest City Park. The castle is located on the island of Széchenyi-sziget within the artificial lake (Városligeti-tó), which is used as an ice rink in winter, among other things. It is accessible via four bridges. On the occasion of the millennium celebration of the Hungarian land grab under Árpád, the main wing of the medieval castle of Hunedoara (ung. Vajdahunyadi vár) in Transylvania was reconstructed as the central pavilion for the millennium exhibition. The name Vajdahunyad Castle quickly became established for the entire building complex, even though it is a wild mix of different architectural styles and building snippets. You can see parts of Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance or Baroque buildings from d4m of the whole Hungarian territory. Among the models were the portal of the abbey church of St. George in Ják, the chapel of Csütörtökhely (today Spišský Štvrtok, Slovakia) and the Catherine Gate in Brassó (today Brașov, Romania). Several buildings in Upper Hungary inspired Renaissance and Baroque elements. During the Second World War the building was hit by six bombs in 1944/45, damaging the Renaissance and Baroque wings. The restoration was completed in 1948. During the battles of the Hungarian National Uprising the castle suffered damage again and was only completely rebuilt between 1978 and 1985. Since 1991 Vajdahunyad Castle has been a protected monument. Today Vajdahunyad Castle is considered an important representative of Hungarian historicism. In the building complex there are numerous architectural styles in a narrow space, from Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance to Baroque. The Hungarian Agricultural Museum (Magyar Mezőgazdasági Múzeum) occupies the largest part of the building wings to the right of the castle gate. The permanent exhibition consists of nine parts, and there are also changing special exhibitions. It displays farm tools, agricultural machinery and other objects of Hungarian agriculture and forestry, as well as a large selection of animal preparations. In addition, the exhibition gives an overview of traditional fishing, viticulture and animal husbandry and the Hungarian flora. The neo-Romanesque chapel, which is modelled on the abbey church of Ják, is a magnet for bridal couples and visitors alike. From the tower of the Castle Gate and the Apostle's Tower (modelled on the clock tower of Sighișoara/Segesvár) there is a beautiful view over the town woods.

(Translated by Google) One of the most significant museums of the Hungarian Agricultural Museum in Budapest is the XIV. district, in the City Park, with hundreds of thousands of visitors a year. The Austrian Baroque-style monumental palace designed by Ignác Alpár is part of the Vajdahunyadvár building complex. The dome above the main entrance is the aftermath of the Károly Gate in Gyulafehérvár. For centuries, Hungary was an agricultural country on its own, and then in the Habsburg Empire. So it seemed natural that the celebrations of the millennium, where they tried to commemorate the values of the past and the future, should also present Hungarian agriculture with a representative collection. The founding document of the future museum was signed on June 20, 1896 by the Minister of Agriculture Ignác Darányi. The aim of creating the collection was named “to present the agricultural production and development of the country in a permanent and modern museum”. The permanent museum was opened on June 9, 1907 in its present location. The Ministry of Agriculture has entrusted the museum with the task of presenting everything “that is of interest and importance to Hungarian agriculture, from which the Hungarian agricultural, horticultural or forestry economy can learn reliable and practical lessons”. For the first few decades, the institution was mostly a practical demonstration and training center where those interested could learn in detail about modern production processes in almost every sector of agriculture. Today, the museum's collection of hundreds of thousands of objects uniquely represents the history of Hungarian agriculture. Here, for example, you can find the first steam locomotive (in 1852) that came to Hungary, as well as many agricultural implements and machines manufactured in Hungary and abroad. His world-famous trophy collection presents the world-record deer, fallow deer, roe deer and wild boar trophies in chronological order. Of great value to the museum is the collection of wheat varieties that dominated the European market between the 19th century and the two world wars. The collection of gray cattle skulls, fine handicraft tools, hunting weapons and material relics of Hungarian viticulture and winemaking are also valued. (Original) A Magyar Mezőgazdasági Múzeum Budapest egyik legjelentősebb múzeuma a főváros XIV. kerületében, a Városligetben, évente több százezer látogatóval. Az Alpár Ignác által tervezett osztrák barokk stílusú műemlék palota a Vajdahunyadvár épületegyüttesének része. A főbejárat fölötti kupola a gyulafehérvári Károly-kapu utánérzése. Magyarország évszázadokon át önállóan, majd a Habsburg Birodalomban is mezőgazdasági országnak számított. Természetesnek tűnt hát, hogy a millenniumi ünnepségeke, ahol igyekeztek emléket állítani a múlt és a jövő értékeinek, a magyar mezőgazdaságot is reprezentatív gyűjteménnyel mutassák be. A leendő múzeum alapító okiratát 1896. június 20-án írta alá Darányi Ignác földművelésügyi miniszter. Mára a múzeum több százezer tárgyas gyűjteménye egyedülállóan reprezentálja a magyar mezőgazdaság történetét.

(Translated by Google) This beautiful building in a fantastic location is a (sometimes) valuable venue for temporary exhibitions. If you walk in the grove before rain it is good to get into a covered area, it is also great. Unfortunately, this has brought to an end all the positives that can be said about this pathetic institution. However, it would be an opportunity, as the permanent exhibitions (livestock, forestry, hunting, fishing, wine and vineyards) aimed at agriculture and its individual fields should be about colorful, interesting, exciting and spectacular professions that are present in all of our lives. Well, this is not the place to be. Permanent exhibitions have been stuck somewhere in the style, state of the art, visuals and presentation techniques of the strangely disguised, gray-toned alien exhibits behind the heavily chorded, 80s, sealed, elaborate, untouched, and often incomprehensible. The term "renewed" can be regarded as a maximum dusting, and does not contain a refreshment reflecting the current state of the profession. Most of the visitors are deluded foreign tourists who are amazed at the beauty of the complex. After the French Compa or the agricultural exhibitions in Munich, Hohenheim, they certainly do not really understand what is here. The accidentally strayed into domestic citizens who might be crossing through the tick avitos üvegvitrinek not really belong here in the exhibition of artists that were here, sincerely happy to go home for lunch. You will be delighted to acknowledge that you did not choose this profession at that time. Really sorry for him. It would be a good idea for the maintainer to refresh the building in its texture, spirit and professionalism. It would be good to come back in a year and give a good evaluation. (Original) A fantasztikus helyen lévő, gyönyörű épület (időnként) értékes időszakos kiállítások helyszíne. Ha a ligetben sétálsz eső elöl jó bemenekülni egy fedett helyre, erre is kiváló. Ezzel sajnos véget is ért minden pozitívum, ami elmondható erről a patinás intézményről.

This museum was better than I expected. The location is very nice, the collection is extensive and most of it was also accompanied by information in English and German. Very informative and clear exhibitions and information on the history of the castle. Not the clearest layout with the entrance on -2 level and the maps showing each exhibition up on 1 and 2 levels. The whole thing feels like it peters out as you head upstairs but the gothic statue collection and the ‘1000 years of Budapest’ exhibit upstairs are worth it.

Interesting to get some information about the city but it was a bit of information ocerload which made the story of the city hard to follow. Perhaps this is just the nature of the city's history but it felt a bit all over the place. We expected this to be about Budapest's history, but it turned out that most of the building is dedicated to the Castle's history. We did eventually find the exhibit hall for the city's history, but at that point we had very little time left to explore. If you're interested in the city history rather than castle history, I recommend asking in advance how to access that exhibit hall.

Most of the museum is about the history of the castle and its walls and tapestry etc. which isn’t particularly interesting unless you’re really into castles or construction. I loved the exhibit on the History of Budapest though. There are maps showing how Buda and Pest evolved over time from Roman to Modern times, the events and movements of people that caused those changes and their influences on the city. It tells a very good story and IMO is the highlight of the museum. Top floor is a dud and can be skipped.

Very big and informative musuem. There’s sections that describes different era of budapest and a lot of history in it, the supposedly best and most glamorious room, st stephens hall is unfortunately a rebuilt and not the original. To enter it you have to get a separate ticket which is included and enter it with the allocated time.

A very imposing edifice from the outside, with a plethora of architectural features. The interior, however, seems to be a bit bare and marred by awkward interference with the original finish. The medieval basement containing a Romanesque chapel still looks genuine.

I just came out of the exhibition and must say that although the exhibit was nice and informative, the museum staff lacked the basic curtesy of good manners. We were perfectly aware of the fact that we arrived in the last hour if the exhibit, but we were told that the museum was open until 18:00. However, around 17:40 the staff started dismantling video displays and almost literally kicking visitors out. I understand that museum staff have a set work time, but then why not be more polite to visitors or set the closing time to half an hour before staff leaves the premises? We felt like we were absolutely not welcome and left with a sour taste in our mouths.

This was a very nicely done museum and much bigger then I thought. They do a really good job of showing all the different cultures that have settle in Budapest throughout their history. Gorgeous views of the city from outside the castle, don’t miss walking around on the terrace outside. Pretty statues and architecture outside as well. The museum starts really slow with hard to read text and a lot of rocks/pieces of old buildings, but there are some very interesting pieces on this history of Budapest once you go upstairs.
