The castle , park and surrounding is a must do in Budapest. The park is very calming, the castle is beautiful. It is very closes to the thermal baths. I'd recommend you spend a morning around the castle and the park. Get to the the fine art museum, and finish up relaxing in the thermal baths.

(Translated by Google) Anonymus statue located in the city park of Budapest and made by the Hungarian artist and sculptor Miklós Ligeti at the beginning of the 20th century inside the complex of Vajdahunyad Castle. It represents the somewhat fictionalized and highly romanticized figure in the anonymous notary of King Bela of Hungary, author of the main documentary source about the conquest of the Hungarians of the Carpathian basin, around 1200. Evocative and mysterious looking, it is absolutely worth a visit! @gargio76

(Translated by Google) We went there along the road from the Szechenyi baths and walked around the neighborhood. This is a copy of the Transselvanian castle. The building is relatively young, although you cannot tell from it. There is an agricultural museum inside, but it is not very interesting, all the most beautiful can be seen from the outside and for free !!! Very cool👌 (Original) Заходили туда по дороге из купален Сечени и прогулялись по окрестности. Это копия трансельванского замка.Постройка относительно молодая, хотя по ней и не скажешь. This castle is a copy of a castle in Romania, and it contains parts of buildings of different architectural styles, so it's a bit of a mishmash :) However, this is very interesting and it's worth visiting. You can pay approximately £2 pp to visit the Apostles Tower and £1 pp to visit the Gatehouse Tower - both offer some views over the area. The castle houses the Museum of Hungarian Agriculture, but we did not visit it as we preferred having a walk around.

Had a lot of fun walking around and seeing some of the vintage railway cars and locomotives. Would have liked to know more about what we were seeing however aside from the title, everything was only in Hungarian. Definitely not a place that caters to foreign tourists but a cool place to wander for a couple hours nonetheless.

VAJDAHUNYAD CASTLE The true standout of the park is the Vajdahunyad Castle, accompanied by the adjacent structures set beside the picturesque lake. Constructed in 1896 as part of the Millennial Exhibition celebrating Hungary's 1,000 years since the Hungarian Conquest of the Carpathian Basin in 895, the castle was conceived to showcase replicas of significant buildings from various parts of the Kingdom of Hungary, particularly drawing inspiration from the Hunyad Castle, also known as Corvin Castle, in Transylvania, now part of Romania. The castle, which incorporates elements from different historical periods, displays a fusion of architectural styles including Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque. Originally built using cardboard and wood, its immense popularity led to its reconstruction using stone and brick between 1904 and 1908. Presently, it serves as the home of the Museum of Hungarian Agriculture, making it the largest agricultural museum in Europe.

It is sometimes known as the most romantic location in Budapest. It has a lovely pond next to it which is converted into an ice rink in winter. It is next to the Central Park of Budapest and offers some breathtaking views. It is conveniently located next to the heroes square and is an architectural marvel. The castle is known to be used for exhibitions or concerns from time to time. It has museum and a souvenir shop inside it. I recommend for setting this place in the late afternoon so that you can enjoy the castle and relax on one of its benches to enjoy the sunset.

In the courtyard of Vidhunyad palace, there’s one statue that I recommend to see - that’s of Statue of Anonymous! No one knows who exactly he is (hence Anonymous!) but he was considered as the History Chronicler, only know to have used “Master P” as his identity. The statue seems to have made a great justice to the Anonymous. You can find the mighty figure sitting with a sharp pen in his hand; face covered under a hood! The eyes under that hood do carry an eerie feeling!

(Translated by Google) Since the sculpture is located in the park, access to it is free and round the clock. Anonymous became the first Hungarian to write chronicles in Latin. The work of the chronicler, which was translated from Latin only 600 years after it was written, is now one of the main sources about that period of Hungarian history. As the legends say, he always wore a dark long-length cloak with a hood. And, allegedly, no one has ever seen his face. And they didn't even know his name. That is why they called him Anonymous, which in translation from Latin means “nameless, unknown”. According to another version, the monk was blind. However, some historians believe that he was a Pole and called him Gallus Anonymous.

Anonymous for not signing his work, this character is recognized in Hungary as one of the first historians of the Kingdom of Hungary. His chronicle describes very precisely the arrival of the Hungarians in the plain of Pannonia. Very beautiful castle, really impressive but only outside. Initially, the visitor believes that it is a castle that has a long history and will be associated with history and myths. However, it is a museum. In my opinion these museums are not interesting. Also, inside it is not at all impressive in relation to the outside. However, the exterior of the castle is definitely worth a visit. Especially in winter it is very beautiful when an ice rink is created next to the castle.

Vajdahunyad Castle, situated in the City Park of Budapest, Hungary, is a truly enchanting and romantic castle that is not to be missed. Despite its medieval appearance, the castle was actually built in 1896 and is a fantastical pastiche that showcases the evolution of Hungarian architectural styles and techniques over the centuries. Today, the castle plays host to a variety of festivals, concerts, and exhibitions, including the Hungarian Agricultural Museum. Originally built on a temporary basis for the Millennium Exhibitions in 1896, the complex was so beloved by the people of Budapest that the city ordered its permanent construction using durable materials. As you wander through the paths and gardens surrounding the castle, you will come across a number of statues depicting famous Hungarian scientists and economists, as well as the impressive nearly two-meter tall statue of Anonymous, a nameless notary of a Hungarian king, believed to be Béla III. Another notable statue located within the castle is that of Béla Lugosi, the famous Hungarian-born actor who played Dracula on the silver screen. This bust, crafted by a German sculptor, is said to have been placed in Vajdahunyad Castle due to the legend that the original Count Dracula, Vlad Țepeș, was held captive in the original Transylvanian Castle. In addition to its rich history and cultural significance, Vajdahunyad Castle offers a range of activities for visitors to enjoy throughout the year. In the warmer months, take to the City Park Lake for boating or pedal boating, while in winter, the lake is transformed into a magical skating rink. Whether you're exploring the castle's intricate architecture, attending a festival or exhibition, or simply taking in the natural beauty of the surrounding park, a visit to Vajdahunyad Castle is sure to be a memorable experience that will stay with you long after you leave

I did not really explore the grounds too much so cannot say for certain how big it is but what I did see was beautiful! The castle was also very pretty and nice to see. There wasn’t a lot to do but it is very close to the thermal baths and a short walk to heroes square so would definitely recommend having a look around if you’re in the area. I did not get to spend much time here as I was just passing through but I imagine it would be a lovely place to sit and relax with friends and family on a hot day!

Built in 1896, the castle is one of the more recent additions to Budapest's enchanting landscape. Located not too far from the City Park, it is a tranquil area where you can walk around before checking out the vast park surrounding it. Some believe it was once the home of Count Dracula, but it now doubles up as the Hungarian Agriculture Museum and it's exhibits. There are events and concerts here sometimes too, so would recommend checking event listings and tickets accordingly.

Considering how Budapest looks like to a South-Western European gaze, this could easily be the most beautiful place in town. Entering from the west side — which is inevitable if you come from the central districts of the city — you'll be welcomed by a fantastic view of the castle and the bridge leading to it. Once inside, I'd recommend to get a combined ticket with reduced fares it costs around 1,300 HUF — which is not bad for what it offers. A visit to the agricultural museum can be boring if you're not in to this sort of exhibits, but the view from the apostle tower is worth it

Very authentic Bohemian-style castle in the centre of Budapest. Located in the heart of the large City Park, it is easily accessable by public (metro), or on foot via Andrássy Avenue and Heroes Square. Both during the day time and night time it’s a beautiful and romantic sight. Don’t forget to continue your walk towards the Széchenyi bath, which is only 2 minutes walking further.

I've been there for a conference in November. The weather was very sunny that day and so the place and then weather play together very well. I had not much time for visiting the entire area, but the way from the main entrance to the venue gave me a glimpse at some trains and the buildings. They were simply amazing. Old but fully renovated. I simply couldn't believe that the conference was in such a historical place. I promised myself that the next time I'm in Budapest I'm going to visit it again. Till next time.

It's been a pleasure visiting this open air museum. The entrance was free for the day, although if you wanted to take part in interactive programs there was a fee. The place was packed with families, until a terrible downpour interrupted the Sunday afternoon fun. For this reason, I will most certainly be back to continue the visit. I still was able to admire many trains (some even inside, for me the best part) and be on the rotating platform! It's a pity some trains are a bit left to decay and are in need of more care they are given. I would have appreciated if more wagons were open to enjoy. Just a few things are written in English.

It is a lovely park where there are so many old railways machines, a very good program with children. There is a really small train, the children and their parents could sit onto the small cars, and the train will go around the park. Not only the toddlers but the teenagers and the parents, grandparents also will enjoy it. There is a moderate playground in the park. The boys will really enjoy to go up the old (very old) steam machines, you will have problem to go home when the park is closing. A big, free parking place is just next to the park.

I attended the craft technical conference which took place here. The museum outdoor exhibits were nice and the museum is a very novel location for a conference. I will visit the museum again when next in Budapest.

(Translated by Google) There are many attractions in the park, but a few things cannot be visited due to the current situation. Even so, I don't know how many stars to give ... it should be 3 or 4. The reason is simple. As usual, since it is not a stadium listed at the entrance, very few things are maintained or just renovated to their merits. These tools do not deserve to be ignored. The tools and objects of history, which existed and will exist independently of everything, if they are not allowed to disappear for our descendants to see. It’s sad to see the plethora of tools that go to waste because they don’t have careful hands and don’t spend money on it.

The history of this place is mind blowing. The preservation efforts contributed to this place is astonishing! Not only does it give you insight on the history of Hungary, it also gives you a broad view on what was accomplished in history and it is quite sad that the same creativity and talent is not as common. Remarkable and worth a visit!

A fairytale castle, you have to see to believe. With bridges, towers, chapels, statues, lakes. A great stroll for a sunny Sunday morning.

Nice castle where you can enjoy its architecture if you walk inside it. The lake that surrounds it had hardly any water and takes away some of its charm. Ideal to take a good photo!

Amazing, very romantic place, even if seen only from the outside. The colours in autumn are fantastic.

(Translated by Google) One of the most beautiful little gems in town. It’s also a great place to walk, now that you can barely go anywhere because of the closures. You can watch here and we are in the air. (Original) Az egyik legszebb kis gyöngyszem a városban. Emellett kiváló sétahely, most, amikor a lezárások miatt alig lehet elmenni valahova. Looks like a fairy-tale castle. Really beautiful. We haven’t visited the agricultural museum inside but I’ve read it’s very interesting (besides it’s title). You can find some well-known monuments there, such as Anonymous and Lugosi Béla.

We didn’t visit the museum or do any tours here but if you’re in the area it’s definitely worth a visit. Castle and the surroundings are very nice and you could walk around the City Park after.

It is a pretty castle. Shame they put huge banner all over the entrance... It gets quite crowded in the afternoon so I recommend coming here early in the morning.

Really beautiful castle. It is also the museum of agriculture. It's located, in a wonderful place surrounded by trees and creeks. It's in the heroes Square territory. Don't miss it.

Beautiful, you can rent a small boat in the summer and ice skate in the winter. Great for picnic but you can have a nice lunch and a drink outside. Plenty of places to go to. The Széchenyi bath is around the corner.

S really beautiful medieval castle, right near the Zoo. The park around it is clean, big and generally a nice place to hang out and enjoy some calm and peace in the middle of the city! There's a museum in the castle, so history lovers will like it!

Walked over from heroes sqaure, its on the way to the famous thermal baths. The castle from outside is nice including the courtyard. We didn't visit the agricultural museum, but we did pay to go up to the tower and museum. Both of these are not that good, but it was cheap and I was intrigued. There were some food stalls there selling hot food and staff were putting out chairs for a concert in the evening. If you don't have much time, then maybe don't go, there's lots of other things to see......

Beautiful castle with a lot of spots to take some pictures. One of favorite things here was the unknown statue. It's unbelievable how a statue this beautiful remained a unknown up until today.

The castle is beautiful and it's surrounded by a park with a lake and the Széchenyi Thermal Bath which is the largest in Europe. I recommend to spend half day around the castle and the park, after that you can relax in the thermal bath.

It was closed from the inside and only the tower was open which I opted out of as I didn’t see much of a difference from the pics we took from ground level. The grounds are nice to walk around and take pictures

Fantastic place to spend a day in. The 4 bridges are wonderful and many other things to see like going up the tower to take nice selfies. As I do always i try to get some tradional food and you can just make a jump at Anonymous Bar & Restaurant even only for a cold drink

Beautiful architecture! Would definitely recommend walking all around the castle. Shame we couldn't really go inside it. Also, there are no good restaurants around it but late afternoon there are stalls which you can buy food from. Something to keep in mind.

Vajdahunyad Castle in Budapest is a captivating architectural gem that transports you to the realm of fairy tales. What makes this castle truly fascinating is its unique history—it is a remarkable replica of the original Hunyad Castle in Romania. Nestled within the enchanting City Park, Vajdahunyad Castle was originally constructed as a temporary structure for the 1896 Millennium Exhibition, but its overwhelming popularity led to its permanent establishment. The castle's design incorporates elements from various historical Hungarian architectural styles, including Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque, paying homage to the diverse architectural heritage of the country. Drawing inspiration from the Hunyad Castle in Transylvania, Romania, Vajdahunyad Castle beautifully captures the essence of medieval fortresses. The castle's tower, turrets, and battlements create an imposing presence, reminiscent of the legendary tales of knights and princesses.

The castle is around 6 min walk from the hero square and offers a lovely view though the water has dried out! lovely historical buildings with instagramable views. I didnt visit the museum and just enjoyed the nature and the old buildings.

One of the beautiful castles like fairy tales in Hungary because it is made with 18th century architecture. It is close to the city park and also has a large garden. There is a cafe called Anonymous because there is a statue of the famous Anonymous. The best photos are the panorama of the castle and the streets near the castle which are full of trees.

Nice place to visit and to cool down from the hot sun. We also had an opportunity to see some military camps/tents as the Hungarian army celebrated 175 years. During our stay there we had some refreshments (lemonade cost 1500huf) also (got scammed due to my own fault of not asking about the price in advance) Remember to always ask what it costs. Once u drink it ur done. 😊

Located in Liget Budapest (Városliget Park). Visited Vajdahunyad Castle on a cold, cloudy Monday in early March 2023. No lake or water features during the winter season. The Hungarian Agricultural Museum and Tower of Apostles were both closed during my visit. I got a ticket for the Gate Tower and enjoyed nice views from the top.

Before to go to the Szechenyi baths, you can walk through the castle. Architecture is beautiful but it could benefit from a little freshen up It’s supposed to be surrounded by an artificial lake/river but it’s empty when I visited

We didn't go inside, but even just taking a walk around the castle (which by the way looks like something straight from a fairytale) was very nice. The castle is surounded by a beautiful park with a lake, which offers a lot of spots to just chill and enjoy the day

Beautiful castle and rich architectural heritage. I have visited quite a few castles, and this one is definitely not one of the impressive ones; I wouldn't say there is much to see. Ю I had a guide who took us up the tower, but unfortunately, I was quite disappointed with the lady - she was not unfriendly but seemed to be there out of obligation, without any enthusiasm or smile. I was a little disappointed also that 90% of the inscriptions and information are in Hungarian, and there is no information even in English, which makes visiting this tourist attraction meaningless.

The castle is really pretty, and what's great is that there's a garden around it where you can take a leisurely stroll. The combination of the beautiful castle and the surrounding garden makes it a wonderful place to explore.
