A very nice but smaller theater. The width between the rows are comfortable for somebody tall too (188-190cm)

The Operetta Theatre is fabulous. It is not the most ornate theater I have ever been in, but it is beautiful in a more understated manner. We had center floor seats ⅓ of the way back from the stage. The acoustics and view were wonderful. There is a small screen above the stage that gave brief subtitles in English of the stage dialog in English. We had excellent seats, but I'm not sure there is a bad seat in the theater. Be sure to share one of the soft pretzels served during intermission. They are delicious and large enough to share with a friend. There is no eating or drinking allowed in the seating area. The lobby displays were a fascinating peek into the theater's history.

A well designed place for musical show. Had a wonderful night with famous musicals piece well remake in Hungarian (watched Jekyll and Hyde). I still enjoy the musical without knowing single Hungarian. The English subtitles is provided on the top of the stage. If you need the subtitle, better have a seat on the back or upstairs.

Just saw Jekyll & Hyde. Outstanding performance, scenery, singing, acting and everything in between. The place itself is also very beautiful. I will probably come and see other performances, musicals or theater acts, cause this one just blew my mind. Stelar performance. 10/10.

I'm sure visiting the Opera house is an unique experience when in Budapest. Unfortunately, I didn't have the opportunity to experience it since you need to buy your tickets well in advance. I would say at least two or three weeks before the desired date. However, from outside the Opera is amazing. Old, nicely kept building just a few steps down the main road, and you are in front of the St. Stephen's Basilica.

We had tickets on the center, at the balcony. From our spots, the upper text row was unreadable. The hall is absolutely gorgeous, in fact the whole building is beautiful. The show (Countess Maritza) had some flaws, regarding mainly the direction (some weird ideas - some good and bad angels leading the characters in and out of troubles, performing some strange movements), but the orchestra was very good, the soloists were ok, the choir also. All the people on the stage are wearing microphones, and the show is sonorized, occasionally above what I think to be the optimal level (they think, maybe, that a part of the audience has hearing problems…). The acting was quite ok, but towards the end got a little too thick and too gross, quite exagerated (Peniczek, for example). The set was beautiful and cleverly used, a rotative platform that showed us four different angles of the same building (terrase, balcony, entrance door etc.). I would have really enjoyed better the show if the direction had been less „inovative”. I hoped that this famous operetta ensemble would stick more to the tradition and to good taste. But I really want to come again to this theatre and, hopefully, to see something better.

Absolutely not to miss for quality of musical productions, history and beauty of the decor. Chairs are comfortable , three bars, coat service (400f cash).

Nice place for a show, beautiful architecture. Usually good shows and great actors. What is critically bad is service. At the entrance, in the snack bar, at the exit. Don't expect customer friendly approach. Ahh, and card payment not always accepted. Read the signs (only in Hungarian though), they say.

When I was little I spend so much time in the Opera and as I was getting older the time I spent there were reduced sadly. After that they started to renovate the whole building, but after they finished, I was happy to go back again. The building itself is just amazing and I always liked the buffet since I was a child (whenever I was there, my parents or grandparents bought me a pretzel). This place will always be special to my heart.

We recently watched Jekyll and Hyde with Péter Sándor as J&H. He was absolutely brilliant as well as the whole production, including the visionary effects and scenery. One of the best theatres of the city.

Famous Musical Theater since 1923. Earlyer "Somossy Orfeum" (1894) The statue of Imre Kálmán sits on a bench in front of the front door. Opposite the street is the Thália Theater.

Beautiful interior with great selection of programs and performances. Fidler on the roof is one of the many famous musicals from the repertoire. The old story was greatly adapted and designed into the modern era. Funny but true story with a not so happy ending.

It's a really nice place with great performances. There are subtitles, so English speakers can also enjoy it. For instance, play callus "Istvan, a kiraly" - it's very interesting and gives some idea of Hungarian history.
