Only three rooms to this museum but packed with interesting items; letters, pictures, music scores, pianos, family portraits etc. Don't miss the beautiful silver music stand given to him by his friends and featuring the portrait of Liszt with busts of Beethoven, Weber and Schubert. Another gem is the small Composing-Desk with pull out three octave piano. A number of his personal items are also on display here. To think you stand in the room where he gave piano instruction to some of his finest pupils.

As a Liszt fan, I would definitely recommend the Liszt Memorial Museum to anyone passing by. The museum provides an audio-guided tour of the three most important rooms to Liszt: his bedroom (also his composition room), dining room and salon. It also features paintings and descriptions of Liszt throughout his life, and contains many of his memorable possessions. 10/10!

(Translated by Google) Ferenc Liszt's last apartment in Budapest on the first floor of the Old Music Academy, where the master lived from 1881 to 1886. The Liszt Ferenc Memorial Museum and Research Center operates within the framework of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, the leading institution of Liszt research in Hungary. The permanent exhibition of the museum is the former flat of Ferenc Liszt, which also houses changing exhibitions, which can be seen in the middle room of the museum and on the ground floor lobby. The museum preserves and continuously collects and processes documents related to Liszt.

Price of entrance is 2000 Huf but it can be only be made meaningful if you purchase the audio guide for 700 more which definitely lifts the whole experience By and large a waste of money, seriously wrong given that Liszt himself was a guy who gave away all his stuff after death and even the audio guide admits that the fact most of the stuff is in the museum is due to the generosity of the people who inherited what Liszt gave I am a huge fan of Liszt and Wagner this experience was necessary for me but I do not recommend apart from die hard fans and people who collect dead bodies, you know who you are 😆, people who would be interested in the last shirt worn by a dead guy more than a century ago

Small but interesting museum- house of Franz Liszt. Must-see for the fans of classical music but also for visitors who like that era (and art nouveau items). It is better to read the many, very analytical descriptions beside the objects, to get a complete picture of the times that he lived in. Very fair ticket price, friendly staff.

Indispensable piece of musical historical kept wonderfully intact. His pianos and a handful of personal items effects are kept remarkably well, giving a small glimpse into the man we know as a composer. My only complaint is the display is rather small, only three rooms. And the caretaker of the museum watches over you as if you were going to steal something…

This museum is the only memorial museum for a very famous classical music composer in Budapest. Franz Liszt was considered as one of the most accomplished pianists of all time, and he was the father-in-law of Richard Wagner. There are pianos, tables, dining sets, armchairs, composing sheats, paintings, canvases and a bed belonged to Liszt in this museum- and you do not have to wait in order to enter this museum. There are many museum houses of composers in Austria and Germany similar to this place.

A must visit museum for Franz Liszt fans. The place is a music academy. Inside you'll see many items personally used by the man himself. He lived here in the last six years of his life. Please visit.

A lovely small museum which is totally worth visiting by anyone who loves Liszt's music and wants to get to know him more intimately. Despite the fact that only 3 rooms are preserved and opened to the public, there are a few pretty cool and famous objects on display: Liszt's music stand featuring Beethoven, Schubert and Weber, his pianos and his composing desk with retractable keyboard. There is a free cloakroom downstairs, so you will be able to leave all your luggage. Overall a charming little place!

My advice to anyone would be to pay the little extra for the audio tour. Without it, it's quite pointless. A very informative tour. It was great to see all the different pianos used by him, from the glass chord to the Chickering and the built in keyboard to the desk. I would highly recommend it to any music lovers.

For appreciators of Liszt and classical music this is a must visit. It’s great to see these real life locations in situ and looking at Liszt’s actual rooms and pianos gives a little shiver. Staff are nice, prices are cheap. Get yourself over.

We had a little bit of difficulty finding this museum as the entrance is through a doorway some way down and fronting Vorosmarty Street whereas the building that it is located in is on the corner of Andrassy Street and Vorosmarty Street. There is only a small sign at the entrance to the building advising that the museum is on the first floor (we did not notice a lift). We passed by an office on the ground floor that looked to be the caretaker's office for the entire building and were advised by the woman in the first floor reception area to the museum. The museum consists of 3 rooms with exhibits and a small reception area. Entry was HUF2,000 (approx EUR6) each and there were handouts in English that explained what each of the rooms and exhibits were. The 3 rooms themselves are a reconstruction of the apartment that LIszt lived in during the last 6 years of his life. There is a study-bedroom that has various types of pianos, his desk and chair, bed and other furniture including cabinets as well as various busts, statues, pictures and documents. In the former dining room there was a temporary exhibit with numerous programmes, manuscripts and other documents on display as well as a piano that was a gift from an American piano maker. The last room, the Drawing room, was where Liszt conducted his piano courses and it contained a number of different pianos, and more memorabilia including programmes, batons, awards, pictures, busts, statues, including one of Beethoven, plus other souvenirs of the composer's life. It was all very interesting with the only disappointing feature being a little bit hard to find.

Great museum for anyone who already likes Liszt, or is interested to know about his life in Hungary! It’s not big (took me about 1.5 hours going slowly), but it is full of exhibits and information. The audioguide is a must as it explains the history behind the exhibits with musical excerpts — perfectly worth the 700 forints. Don’t rush through the museum!

Small museum of the house of Franz Liszt when he lived in Budapest for a short period. It's only three rooms; piano room still has his pianos and the famous custom made music stand with heads of three of Liszt's inspirations. The study room is very cool, they kept some of the original furniture which can be seen in old photos.

One of the best musician museums Ive ever been to, interactive, amazing collections and with detailed English descriptions. You can also hear different timbres of the pianos that Liszt used (also displayed in the museum) via the tour guide phone, you can also search the album "the instruments of Liszt in the Budapest Liszt Ferenc museum" on spotify if youre still not over it after the tour. One timbre that struck me still is S198/R58 from that album.

Would recommend if you are a fan of Liszt, otherwise probably something you can skip. Only 3 small rooms to explore with some text and description of Liszt's composition, teaching, pupils and a bit on relationships. Overall it's a small museum and I wish it provided more information on Liszt for people who might not know his work and life quite well.

A small and aesthetic place to visit. Not many things to read about the composer in English, but worth to visit for art and classical music lovers.

Overall it's an ok place. There are two medium/small sized rooms with a few artifacts and pictures, but quite underwhelming. If you go, you'll be done with it under 20 mins. I'd say skip it unless you're a big Liszt fan which I am, but now that I've seen it... I'd go somewhere else. Disappointing.

You know, I like smaller museums. Why? Bc they try to show something real of the person. For a visit into into one of world's most famous composer, you won't need much time. It was and is literally a place of learning, Liszt taught students there and played at neighboring hall for larger audiences. Unfortunately I hadn't the time to ask for his original manuscripts, you need to apply for.

The museum is organized in three small rooms with not much in it. The price of the ticket is 2000 HUF per person. Which is a lot considering what I saw. I wouldn't go back and I wouldn't suggest it to anyone.

A very small museum locatied in Liszt's actual living quarters. You have to have a certain interest in Liszt for this museum to be meaningful. It was fun to see where Liszt has actually lived, and they had obviously done a great job in locating and collecting his belongings. I got the audioguide, but it wasn't very informative - at least not in a coherent way. You got a lot of information about his belongings, but it definitely lacked a context and it seemed like you had to have a great - as in specialized - amount of knowledge about Lizst to get a meaningful experience. We went to see a concert in the adjoining concert hall; quite a disappointment, I'm sad to say. The singer had clearly taken on a work that was way over his abilities, and he struggled a lot with it and tried too hard to be dramatic, which made it hard to watch. Furthermore, the introduction - a woman reading out loud from a piece of paper for 15 min - was very long, uninspired and unnecessary.
