Great museum for Hungarian history. In most of the rooms there are English translations, but some are missing. You can see how the empire transformed into today’s Hungary. The modern history could have be covered with more details. I liked a lot the old Soviet tank at the museum entrance.

My 9yr old daughter and I made this our first stop while in Budapest (October 2019) It was a close walk from our hotel in Buda. My daughter had just started learning about WW2 at school, so she found it fascinating. Loved the uniforms, tank, canons, weapons and displays. Spent about 3 hours there but would have stayed longer if we had more time.

Surprisingly, we did not encounter many tourists here. This free to enter museum should be put on the map. It is well thought out and full of insightful displays, aesthetic rooms, and, of course, history! There is no ticket fee, all though they can offer you a ticket to keep as a nice souvenir. If you visit and like the museum, you can also leave a donation at the exit

The half of the museum is closed, price is higher than on internet website. Boring small museum, only a few rooms with the 19 century and a beginning of 1 WW. Go to to polish national museum of military in Warsaw its a way better

I have come here yesterday to kiss locked doors and when I asked when museum opens, I get an answer "maybe 30th December" I have come to this castle only for this museum. I am angry.

Broad view of what happened in Hungary since 1896 all the way to almost current times in terms of military stuff. Many real weapons, uniforms even cars. There are translation in English but what is the most lacking is the start and finish directions because we ended up walking up to wwI and then WW2 after that it was back in time for wwI period.

Quite nice military museum, focused mainly on wall displays. Ideal for faleristics and uniform seekers. In the court you will find some artillery pieces. Cheap tickets. i recommend it!

We were shown around in the armoury by Gregory. He was very professional and patient with us. He gave good answers and it was very obvious he has great love for the subject. If you only have time to visit one museum in Budapest, and you like history, you must visit this one, the armoury is fantastic.

Really interesting museum. Would of been happy if we'd had a small fee to pay to get in and we chanced upon this place by accident. The cafe food is amazing and really cheap considering everywhere else in Budapest.

The male part of the familiy wanted to visit this museum and they loved it. I'm not that keen on military and war museums but the exebitions were very nicely done and there are also some interactive games (puzzles, maps etc.). Worth a visit. Also very friendly stuff and a free entrance.

This is an amazing military exhibition on the Budapest riverside. It is free for everyone (just make sure to register yourself at the reception) so don't let anyone fool you into buying tickets. The exhibition is composed of two main areas, historic and modern. The historic area has a few mannequins dressed up as historically accurate soldiers from the second world war and cold war. A few small vehicles and towed guns can also be seen. Within the historic area you can also find two MiG-29 cockpit flight simulators, with enough buttons to confuse even pilots, which is great fun for children and adults alike. There is also a Airsoft shooting range where anyone can try firing replicas of famous firearms. All the "hands-on" parts of the exhibition are attended by friendly staff to make sure everyone is safe and enjoying themselves. The modern area contained more mannequins in modern equipment, replicas of drones and robots, a robot fighting arena and a VR shooting range. Finally in the modern area there are also two mid-spec desktops running various games, and a VR flight simulator for a Gripen aircraft. Be aware this is not the historic military museum that is shown in some of the pictures, that can be found in Buda castle and is paid. Additionally, I'm unsure of how permanent or temporary this exhibition may be, so your experience may vary. All in all, an amazing experience that you can't really get anywhere else.

Fantastic collection of items, along with detailed descriptions of events, equipment and timelines. However: -the layout of the museum is slightly strange, including no clear path to enter and exit each time period chronologically. As well as this, the booth to pay is tucked away. -multiple major sections were not open. - the staff kicked visitors out and closed the place a good 20 minutes before the closing time. -effectively non existent addressing of the role Hungary played in the Holocaust.

Was there on 30.07.22, only 2 floors and the yard were open, no tank. Mostly stuff from Austria-Hungary empire period. Expected to be more interesting, get bored soon. Because of old building without AC, it's really stifling inside.

(Translated by Google) An interesting military museum displaying mainly a rich collection of rare Hungarian and Austro-Hungarian weapons. Numerous artifacts (rich uniforms, weapons, banners), dioramas, maps and souvenirs present a historical cross-section of the military of Hungary, Germany, Russia and with two accents from 1848 and 1939 - Polish. The uniforms of Colonel Jerzy Bulharin (although the eagle from the cap could be exchanged for an original Polish museum) and memorabilia of the soldiers of the 1939 Polish defensive war interned in the conditions of an old friendly bond with Hungarian hosts are interesting. It is worth spending at least 1 hour on sightseeing and 2-3 hours for those interested. (Original) Interesujące muzeum militarne eksponujące głównie bogatą kolekcję rzadkiego uzbrojenia węgierskiego oraz austro-węgierskiego. Liczne artefakty ( bogate umundurowanie, broń, sztandary), dioramy, mapy i pamiątki prezentują przekrój historyczny wojskowości Węgier, Niemiec, Rosji oraz z dwoma akcentami z 1848 i 1939 -Polski.

Exhibits are in good condition. The staff is always ready to explain exhibits in more detail. Unfortunately, a big part of the exhibition is only described in hungarian. In addition, most of the exhibition only deals with the 1st and 2nd world war. Plus, there is an unpleasant smell in part of the building.

Very well maintained museum with lots of beautiful displays. Weapons and other equipment from several phases in history. Easily could spend an hour or more there if you want to look at things in detail. Entry is free but I encourage people to leave some money in the donation box at the entrance because it is nice to support the nice work that has been done.

We also had free admission

Free entry! The ground floor was very interesting as it was regarding WW1, as a Western European I didn't realise there was also an Eastern theatre of war (except the start of it all off course). The first floor has a cool armory with weapons through the ages and a large portion of hungarian history (which didn't appeal to me).

Sign up for free at the info desk to get inside the exhibition gallery. At the time of writing (July 2023) they seem to be preparing this new building and most other floors are covered by stickers. No photos inside which I am guessing to prevent the wrong interpretation... The ground floor still have some interesting setups celebrating the 175th military anniversary - WW1&2 trenches, radios, medics camps, equipments from the last century to current (spot the Hungarian made)... Although most descriptions are Magyar, the interactive games are good for anyone: VR target shooting, VR flight simulators, robotic dog control, mini (laser) anti aircraft missile, first person shooter gaming station... It was not busy on a weekday so it's fun to try a few minutes on each station within an hour's visit. This is a pretty good effort to make the military appear cool for the younger generations, seeing there is no English explanation needed lol Hopefully something more substantial will be showing soon!

It only had two small exhibitions showing modern military with VR stuff. The entire "history" exhibition is not available anymore since the museum moved. It's free and it does have something, but definitely not what the name and older reviews suggest it is.

Exhibits are constantly being reviewed and updated.
