This is a museum devoted to the work of Hungarian-French artist Victor Vasarely. It feels a little isolated and under appreciated but this museum is well worth a visit. You'll probably have the galleries to yourself and that's fine. More time and space to appreciate the work of this artist. Inside the museum compound is a garden that has a few chairs and a nice place to relax. The museum is easy to get to by public transport. We rode a bike there and caught a train back to central Budapest. The train stop, Szentlélek tér, is literally outside the museum.

A huge space filled with, you guessed it, works of Vasarely. There are ones form the beginning of his career, sketches and bit of historical records of his life, through later paintings, tapestries, and kinetic works. The exhibition rooms are big, giving plenty of room to step back and get immersed into the optical illusions, some of which can make you really dizzy, or give you a bit of a headache if look at them for too long! There is a room with works of Vasarely's son and close friend and there appear to be periodic exhibitions of other artists too. Depending on how long you want to stare at paintings a visit would take you 1-1.5 hours, maybe 2 if you're a true Vasarely nerd! Practicalities: Might seem far away from the city centre, but it's easy to reach, especially that the bus station is right in front of it. Toilets available. Wifi available. Card payment available. Museum shop available. Very quiet, even on a Sunday.

Beautiful pictures!! In particular the colored paintings were absolutely impressive. It's a small museum, with few visitors. It feels very familiar. The museum's shop is really cool too. I bought a bag there. Definitely worth a visit!

Amazing collection. I wish it was a bit more interractive. It would great to include video of the artist’s life and an audioguide. They are closing earlier (4pm) because of the energy crisis. I wasn’t aware of this so I came at 3pm and had to rush. The manager very nicely welcomed me to come back again the next day with the same ticket if I wanted to spend more time.

Interesting creations of an interesting mind. One of the most original artists of 20. Century, Vasarely. The museum is in the castle of the noble, ancient Zichy family.

Located off the beaten path. Very nice exhibit space located in a house. The second floor is gorgeous. One can clearly see the evolution of Vasarely's art journey. The whole second floor has gorgeous pieces that tickles your brain. You have to enter the gift shop in order to get to the yard and towards the ticket counters. It is quiet and quite cool in the building. The yard is also enjoyable with shade. One of my favorite places in Budapest.

I love Victor Vasarely and obviously this museum has a great collection of his works. The museum building is also very nice and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed the temporary exhibitions as well. Highly recommend if you like modern art/op art

Artist deserved more. Museum employees are kind and museum shop is well-stocked, but works displayed aren’t particularly interesting. Guess most of Vasarely’s best works belong to French museums or private collectors…

Great artworks, interesting building. Also some newer, young artists can be seen in a parts of the exhibition. There is an art station for children to try it out, but we happily crafted our own too. Was very low density and nicely chilled building to escape the summer heat.

If you're interested in the works of Vasarely, a truly visionary artist of our time, definitely visit this museum. Be prepared, it has tones of his art, as he was very productive. This is one of those hidden gems of the city, and is great for all generations. They even have a creative lab for kids.

I really love this museum , was one of my bucket list places to visit and I do not have any regrets!!! What a great place, lots of his art work and biography also it was a pretty large museum, the only thing is a little out of the way , if you get the app of “Bolt” which is like Uber but faster you would get there in no time, the have buses and train but I did not want to deal with getting around and getting lost on a boat or train…

I thought the staff were actually quite friendly, but the museum has a habit of lending out the collection, so it's difficult to be sure if there are any Vasarely works of art there. Also, most of the collection is on the first floor, there isn't an elevator, so no wheelchair access, despite the museum being renovated in 2017. Museum seems to be missing the point of displaying art to the general public.

  • 3/5 Floris Van R. 5 years ago on Google
Not really interesting. We couldn't see the permanent exhibitions though. Prices for students are really low, so that's a plus. Staff is really nice, which seems to be unique in Budapest

  • 5/5 Christian A. 1 year ago on Google
Really impressive art and you will love it, if you enjoy the visual effects of psychodelic trips. The artist is working with kinetic effects and optical illusions in his paintings. It makes a difference from which angle you are viewing and observing the paintings. Keep that in mind, that it can take some time, if your brain is switching the perspective. Therefore take your time, if you visit this museum.

There's more than meet the eye in this strange modern Pop-Art Museum. It takes 45 mins the visit but it's very far from the centre. Luckily there are also the Varga Museum and the archaelogical Aquincum in the nearbyes, so you can spend the half day in this zone. To see...!!

The collection is amazing. Absolutely perfect. But the staff still think we live in socialist country. Soo unpleasant. Hassel because of a handbag in the form of a backpack. Judgemental looks, fortunately could not understand their remarks. We were the only visitors there.

I was only vaguely aware of Victor Vasarely, having seen his work in art books. This is an excellent and compact gallery of Vasarely's work starting from his time as a graphic designer. Google Maps shows this museum as wheelchair accessible but it isn't. We struggled to get in and then it turned out the stair lift to the upper gallery was out of order. So my partner had to wait downstairs. There's plenty of space either side of the main steps for a wheelchair ramp. And the steps through the rear garden to the galleries could be turned into ramps.

(Translated by Google) It’s worth checking out if someone loves the artist’s work. Spacious spaces, good to look at. There is no air conditioning, so it is very warm inside in summer, but it has a very pleasant inner garden, in the immediate vicinity of the Kobuci Garden.
