Found the place on our way around Castle. Didn't see it before in any guide which is a pity as it is a must see if you're visiting Budapest. Museum itself is tiny but guide is very professional and in those few minutes will explain Houdinis life so good that will actually make you to read more about him. The other part is show which made our day. Perfectly played with a lot of humour and all of the tricks which I did never see before. Loved the way host got the audience involved in so friendly and funny manner. All of the visit is about an hour and only €9 cost. Loved it!

It's a small (two room) but interesting collection of items relating to his life; books, photos, some of his props eg handcuffs etc. There is also a little magic show that pads out the visit. Having been to many museums now around Budapest, I would say at 3150 HUF cost, it's a bit expensive for what it is, and unlike other places I've been to, doesn't offer any discount for pensioners. For the owner who's collected these items, it's a nice little money earner. Also it's cash only, not credit card if you arrive without a pre-booking. The lady conducting the tour was very interesting in detailing how Houdini made many enemies by exposing charlatans and publically humiliating them. His death is still surrounded my mystery and controversy. I enjoyed the visit, don't get me wrong, but not sure it's worth the cost.

Great magic show! Card/coin tricks, but really smooth! Tour was really engaging, so easy to listen to. I agree some people might like a little longer in the exhibition but you're allowed to take photos and all is said that needs to be said during the very thorough and engaging interesting tour.

What an outstanding surprise. We were sitting in a cafe and saw this museum. Of course we had to go check it out. So worth the time and money. Magic show and tour. I was interested in Houdini’s esoteric beliefs. Asked the tour guide if he was friends or a student of Madam Blavatsky. She didn’t know but want to come back and learn more. Also, love that there is NO gift shop! Says a lot about this place. Absolute class.

So: I didn’t actually visit the museum. I did find it interesting that Houdini was born in Budapest, but he left so early (age 3 I think) that we didn’t feel there was much to gain by seeing the home to which he was born. The concept seemed neat though. Magic shows and debunking other great magicians tricks while preserving the mystery and intrigue of Houdini’s great illusions. The outside is fun and offers some paraphernalia to look at and see the different handcuffs and posters used. If we had more time we would have spent time inside and watching the magic show. Next time!

The tutor museum tour guide was really nice and made me connect to the stories of Hudini's life and she was answering any question you ask and she is really funny as well. Also the magic show was also good and keeps you in the vibe. I recommend you to visit here!

It was wonderful and I can't recommend it enough! Although it's a small museum of 4 rooms, you get the full experience and insight of the life of the great magician. I cannot stress enough how warm and entertaining were Alexander with magician show and Barbara the guide of the tour, full marks to both of them :)

A lovely private collection by David Merlini (another well known escapologist) near the buda castle. For us as longtime magic fans it was a must-see activity. Our guide was a lovely woman who was telling us everything with passion and always a smile in her face - super charming! We realized afterwards that David Merlini himself has been also there as cashier - you really feel that he has a strong dedication to his work and the work of his inspiration - Houdini. After the small tour around original Requisits we saw a little performance of various classic tricks, including the three ropes, chained links, some coin and card magic. The show was okay - and it included a bit of everything and I guess the people had fun :) If you have any time left make sure to enjoy the 45minutes that are well spent :) I hope they will do some merchandise and maybe more interactive things in the future :)

A very magical experience 🎩 Nice tour with a simple but cool magic show at the end! Definitely worth a visit even if you're not a huge magic fan!

This was one of the best little magic shows I’ve seen. Very engaging. Museum is small but packed full of Houdini history. Highly recommend a stop by for an enjoyable break.

We originally didn’t want to go in at first, second day we decided to kill time here. What an awesome choice. The museum is really small & can be a little crowded with a big group but the tour guide did an awesome job at explaining everything. There are about 3 rooms in this whole museum. It was affordable & very interesting if you are a fan of magic. There is also a really awesome magic show at the end done by local magicians & included in the ticket! There are also different time slots so you can circle back if you want. Definitely a place to bring your kids or anyone drawn to magic!

We didn't buy tickets in advance. We visited in the afternoon and were the only 2 for the guided tour. And it was no problem for them to do the tour just for us. Very friendly and committed staff. Coll magic show at the beginning (or at the end, depends). We recommend a visit. Worth the money and not expensive at all.

It was great, the museum have some interesting original Houdini stuff and pictures. Interesting story about his life told by very friendly guide. There is a magician show after, it was amazing, very fun and interesting. If you would like to be a part of the tricks, sit in the front row.

Great little addition to the trip. Magician was talented and the museum was fascinating. Little bit of constructive criticism: I wish the tricks were a little more exciting. These are old tricks that are found in most children's magic sets with the exception of a few tricks. I also wanted to purchase some bits at the end but was told I had to wait for the next set of people to be orientated. I think they should sort that out so it's a smoother process.

This place is amazing! We had walked past and didn't have time for the show, so returned the next day, and it was definitely worth it. There is a little tour that outlines Houdinis life which is followed by an astonishing magic show. The magician did a great job, as did our tour guide! At some point we saw a little cat run through (we think it was Houdini himself) and were amazed when we later saw a picture of that same cat on the wall! The whole experience was around an hour long. You can pre book online with card or buy a ticket in person where you can only pay by cash.

The question you have to answer to enter is not that difficult. First you get some history then a show. You can reserve a time slot. But also buy at the cash register. Depending on where there is room.

Fun Museum and Magic Show While this was a little cheesy, it was a nice break from all the historic sights. I love magic and old magicians so this was very enjoyable. We started with a magic show and then an informative tour of the many artifacts and got to find out about his life. When we were there, they only took cash, euros or fornits.

Excellent!!! The magician was brilliant and the your was very informative... Interesting guy! Tours/shows are every half hour or hour, just go in and they'll tell you when the next one is!

Excellent place with a fantastic guide and presentation/stories. Not a big place but packed with Houdini so you could almost feel his presence. You can see some original items, including his birth certificate, hear great/unbelievable/sad stories. Really well done up place. At the end you get to see a magic show from local magicians. Our magician Richard was an absolute treat!

Found this quirky museum tucked away as we were walking around. It's well worth a visit if you're interested in Houdini. Some very interesting facts are explained as part of the tour. Some brief free time to explore the exhibits is available too. There is a short entertaining magic act at the end of the tour. The staff are all friendly and knowledgeable.

Excellent little museum with an excellent magic show. Nice artifacts from Houdinis life and the movies about him. Nice presentation from our host. Then an excellent magic show, all for about $10 a person. Only took about 45 min.

I wish there was more time to take a look at the exhibits and read some texts in the museum because guided tour was short and you had to take a quick glance before moving to another room. The magician show wasn't bad but probably more suitable for children.

An unique experience Provident by an enthusiastic team. Very Nice arangement of the items colection, nice and documented story. A beutiful and romantic story told with talent by the guid. To the finish we had a funny and interesting interactive magic show. Thank you!

Very interesting and delightful experience. The staff are very knowledgeable, and you get to see some magic tricks apart from listening to the story of Houdini. We also got the cards for the famous card trick!

The place is small but packed with interesting Houdini items. I learned a lot about Houdini from the beautiful tour guide. The tour started slow but the magic show at the end made the visit worthwhile.

Super fun experience. Our guide was the blonde woman with curly hair and blue eyes. We enjoyed her tour very much. The magic show was fun, too! :)

The museum surpassed my expectations! Magical show was great (mostly sleight od hand, but very impressive). Show was the one part, and the other was exploring the collection of items connected to Harry Houdini. Everything was interestingly explained by an excellent guide who is willing to answer all Your questions. Congratulations for the founder of the museum. Well done, sir!

Cute little museum, nice guide and a fun little magic show. But the museum was very small and could have been made more engaging.

  • 4/5 Agnieszka P. 2 years ago on Google
Very fun place with a highlight of a magic show. The tour was a bit rushed (the museum only has two small rooms of exhibits) as it restarts every 30 min- wish we were given more time to explore the rooms and talk to the guide as we did not even have an opportunity to ask questions.

  • 4/5 Morana Gromača G. 2 years ago on Google
The guided tour was nice, we saw a lot of interesting stuff. But the magic show was in Hungarian and we didn't understand a thing. When we bought the tickets nobody mentioned this and later we found out that they also have shows in English. So, keep that in mind.

  • 2/5 Karen W. 2 years ago on Google
Was really disappointed. Not worth it for the price. Thought they would have more props and show some more of how the magic happens. Didn’t have many original objects since Houdini lived most of his life in the US. The magician at the end was ok, but wish he had done some more intricate or original tricks rather than the oldest tricks in the book. The show also had no music or lights. If I were you I’d skip this one.

I visited there yesturday with my dad and uncle. The museam tutor was really nice and she was answering anything you want to know. Her lecture was really interesthing and the way she tell you the story of Hudini's life really adds to the vibe. After it was over we went the the magic show and the magician was really Interactive with the crowd and was also really funny as well. After the show was over we bought one of the card tricks that was preformed in the show and they helped us to do the trick and we left there with a really good vibe. I recommend everyone to go there at any age and you will also have a good time!

I felt like a kid again. A 40 minutes guided tour and a magician's performance. Houdinni was born in Budapest but left at 4 for America. They have many original items of him. Remember the movie about him played by Tony Curtis? Another Hungarian 😂😂

Had the best time!! Learned a lot about Houdini even though I thought I knew quite a bit already. The tour guide was fun and informative and answered questions. The magic show was wonderful. Its cash only unless you buy online in advance. Would highly recommend!!

Very nice experience presenting the life of Houdini in short. A small magic show is included.

Excellent. Great small museum. And you see the real magic show as well

  • 4/5 Dominika G. 2 years ago on Google
The museum itself is quite small, but it has interesting features. It is lovely to attend the magic show, you can feel like a little child as the magician is really able to blow your mind with his tricks. I would wish to have a little more spare time during the guide tour to look more carefully at the presented items.

  • 2/5 Ostap R. 2 years ago on Google
May be nice for children because of the show at the end. Houdini born in the Budapest, but left at age 3, so it's more about money gaining rather then interesting excursion related to the place. You will not receive any kind of hacks that Houdini used/invented. Just history. And number of people that will go with you at the same time is larger then for comfortable time spending there.

  • 4/5 Evelyn Bôa H. 2 years ago on Google
Not sure if I was under the influence of too much mulled wine, but the little magic show that composes the tour was really nice. Besides that there is not much too see, as Houdini was born in Hungary but actually spent most of his life in the US. There are some original items and replicates and they give our a friendly biography of his life, which is pretty different from the blockbuster movies btw...

It was a very nice experience, if you are near Buda Castle and you like magic this is the perfect place for you. You can visit the museum of Houdini and see also a good magic show.

  • 5/5 Matthew H. 1 year ago on Google
Really interesting to learn about Houdini's history with photos and props. Included a quaint magic show and a tour.

  • 4/5 Besarion C. 1 year ago on Google
It was fun 🙂👍 There are 2 kind of tickets 1. Ticket to magic show with cards and ropes and balls and that sort of things 2. In addition to show, you will have a tour of Houdini's life, his successes and downfalls and his miysterious death.

  • 3/5 Joe B. 1 year ago on Google
Good for a rainy day. Worth the €10 but have modest expectations. It's only 4 rooms but the guide is funny and informative. After 30 minutes learning about the history, you get a 20 minute magic show that will entertain the kids.
