I was intrigued by the Petofi Museum when I saw it pop on the list of museums on Google and I made sure I visited this place. So there was no one except us and only some parts had translations in English but there was this very kind girl named Krisztina who on my request explained everything to me. Very sweet girl. She explained the contemporary arts kept in the temporary exhibition. After that she even explained to me the life of Petofi. He was a very famous Hungarian poet during the revolution time in Hungary. And she told me that many Hungarians are extremely fond of him and his works which is why an entire museum this big is dedicated to him. There are intensive details about his life maybe even observing his psychology and tracing what made him so great. Wish I knew the language to understand it with more clarity. Nevertheless Krisztina made me have a good time in the museum. If you are someone who likes venturing into museums that don't appeal to most of the museum lovers then you would love this place. I loved it for the sheer vibe of it. These things are so old and with hardly any people inside you can almost feel all the energy of antiques hitting you. I spent 2 hours photographing and I have shared some of the many photographs. The entrance price costs somewhere around 10 euros.

Petőfi was one of last museums extreme far right Orbán took over had run by one of his political cadres. The museum, similar to most significant cultural institutions in Budapest, is now controlled by a circle of conservative nationalists, few of them known outside of Hungary.

There was no one at the cashier so after waiting 15 mins we just went to the exhibition sites. The exhibition about the Romani poet Choli Daróczi was very poor. It painstakingly focused on the fact that he was a hungarian poet, too. And there was no single word in the whole exhibition written in Romani language. Its easy to get the feeling that no one has a desire there to create interesting exhibitions. I visited some exhibition in the Petőfi Museum few years ago (Nyugat100, Radnóti), and this has never been the most exciting museum in Budapest but since that Orbán loving Romanian arslicker became the director of the museum, you can get the sense that the main purpose of the whole place is not to present pieces of hungarian culture but to fulfil his gigantic ambition

Very careful displayed museum. Just be mindful that everything is written in hungarian only. ;)

Don't go if you don't speak hungarian. I'd say less then 10% of the material is translated, and none of his writtings. Big shame, because the exibition looks very nice.

The museum houses a vast collection of literary artifacts, manuscripts, books, and personal belongings of Hungarian writers. It serves as a center for research, education, and exhibitions related to Hungarian literature, showcasing the country's rich literary history. The exhibits cover various periods and genres, providing visitors with insights into the development of Hungarian literature over the centuries.

It's mess. It's hard to find a cashier to buy a ticket the season shows rooms it's hide to upstairs. The shows easily you can mix so I start looking one subject and the next room it's was absolutely different shows was.

Interesting exhibition, although I recommend bringing a Hungarian friend if you visit as a foreigner. I am especially pleased with their ticket price policy! (Discounts for Museum workers)

For English speakers, use your google translate camera to make the most of the exhibition. Only a few paragraphs are in English.

Interior is of retro elegance. The museum starts with this entrance and immediately catches your attention til the final room. Every room has ots own story (Mirror room etc) and color, very photogenic ones😀. Quite compact building having easy to follow routes. The only con is unavailability of English descriptions under most of the artefacts. Location is nice, just between the Kalvin ter and Ferenciek, on the way to Fashion street and city center.
