👍 The best restaurant in town! The goulash soupe is perfect and heart warming, apart from the price! The dishes are well served and the service is very good. I tried few times at Frici Papa. This time I wrote the review because the food was so outstanding. Frici Papa offers authentic local Hungarian food for reasonable price. It’s always crowded even till closing time. the service and staff are always nice and friendly. My very last time, I had a chicken schnitzel and was blown away by it juiciness and the crispy thin coating lasted until the last bite. The dish is freshly cooked, the heat inside of the chicken satisfied my hunger. The portion is quite big for me but I didn’t want to waste any of it. It need me more than 20’ for enjoying my dish. While eating I observed other guests trying their meal with high satisfaction.

It is my first Hungarian meal in here. I ordered the Chicken Paprika with gnocchi, 🍨 and cherry beer. The food is not very expensive. Our Hungarian server is attentive and he took our order right away. He recommended me some food I should try. I didn't enjoyed much of the dessert but the Chicken paprika is good. It is simple meal but great dinner. Visited 6/09/2022

Best meal I have had in ages! Me and my Mum are both Vegetarian and after finding out that Goulash is the Hungarian meal to have while travelling here we searched for a vegetarian alternative. It didn't matter which blog I went on, everyone recommend Frici Papa. We went Monday evening and were seated straight away even though it was very busy, the first guy came across quite grumpy, didn't greet us just pointed us to a general area to sit. but we heard this from people's preview reviews. The guy who served us was very nice, he spoke English which was handy for when we pronounced things incorrectly, the menu is in Hungarian, English and Spanish (and maybe something else as well I can't remember) We ordered the Gombapaprikás (Mushroom Goulash), one of us had it with rice and one of us had it with chips. We thought the rice and chips would be on a seperate bowl/plate but it was served on the main plate which was fine, we shared each others. Everyone was SO TASTY! We can not wait to try and replicate it when we are home. The meal was so hot it burnt a little which we liked because it is just nice to receive hot food at a great temperature. Our meal only came to just over £17 altogether which is a fantastic price, we added it up before hand but the price was higher so there is a small surcharge (I think 10%) but considering how cheap the food it then it wasn't much at all. You have to pay at the counter. There were toilets inside. There is lots of nice paintings and such around the restaurant. I have already recommended this restaurant to people I know and if we come back to Budapest again we will 100% be returning. Yummy!!

Amazing place with traditional food for a fair price. I had a tasty soup and a really good chicken paprika stew. It gave me the life that I needed to survive on a hungover day in Budapest

We went there for 3 times during our stay in Budapest and tried soups, chicken, pork and some desserts. Everything was delicious, service is great, prices are low compared with the closest restaurants. We enjoyed pancakes with vanilla cream and nuts and with chocolate very much!

Went to this restaurant with my friends and we were able to find a table for four very easily. We ordered our food and the food came quickly. The food is fairly priced at around 10 euros per person. The quality of the food is slightly above average. But u would say that this restaurant is a really nice way to get some nice food fast.

We waited 30 minutes to get in. The food was traditional and very delicious. I liked it. I can wait 30 minutes again to eat these dishes. The best place in Budapest for Hungarian food. The prices are quite good.

Surprisingly cheap restaurant/pub compare to other restaurants in Budapest. Certainly the inner decoration can't match with a posh restaurant but this is not the aim. Traditional Hungarian food and dessert can be ordered here. You can pay by bank card and SZÉP card as well. Negative experience that I ordered rice with the camembert cheese but I got potato with it. This wouldn't had a big issue if the potato was delicious but unfortunately it wasn't. It was over roasted and therefore was burnt and bitter.

Neighborhood bistro in a trendy area that has a waiting line moving fast. The menu has options for all types of eaters and great shareable dishes. You can view pics of plates and read the carte in English and Spanish too. Locals were the main crowd, but tourists enjoyed the Hungarian delicacies for a friendly price. Expect to pay under $20 for a great meal.

It was the first Hungarian restaurant in Budapest to which we went. After being in Budapest for a week I decided to leave a review as I have a good comparison to other places we visited. We ordered two beef goulashes, potatoes with parsley and cucumber salad. The goulash was way too salty for either of us. The cucumber salad was one of the best we've eaten in Budapest. The place has an authentic feel to it but is loaded with tourists. We got a voucher to Frici Papa for a free drink from Buda Castle, which explains the amount of tourists. Good traditional food at a really good price. We came here a bunch of times and the service quality goes from average to amazing depending on the waiter.

Amazing place with delicious food at a reasonable price. When we went for dinner around 8:30pm . There was a small queue but it loved fast enough. We only waited 5-8mins. The staff speaks english and cordial. We ordered beef goulash, meatloaf with mashed potatoes, meat soup with dumplings and chicken paprikash with rice and peas. The best part you could choose your own side dish as you want. Loved the paprikash and the goulash both were just delicious. There is no ac so was a little warm inside rest was fine. The price was perfect for the quantity and quality of food served. For dessert we tried the gundel crepe which a hungarian crepe and it was just so yummy with raisings and dark chocolate all over. Loved it. Highly recommend this place.

The best food i found in Budapest. A lot of typical dishes. And really good prices compared to other places. At lunch it is easiest to find a table but at dinner is full with a long queue in the outside

Great place to get a decent meal at a great price! The waiter was able to split the bill for a four person group. I had the pork with mushrooms main (bakonyi), and the cucumber side salad.

Eating Hungarian beef stew is a must in Budapest. And this restaurant had a very nice one. The meat was tender, and the red wine was present in the taste. The fries completed the whole dish. Overall I've had a very good experience in this restaurant.

The best Hungarian food you can find in Budapest. Family-type food, very cozy, but it’s hot as hell inside.

  • 4/5 Jebjim L. 6 months ago on Google
Overall good experience. Ordered the beef goulash and chicken paprikash. Food was not bad, slightly on the salty side. Recommend the cucumber salad. Prices were reasonable. Busy and bustling on a weekday night, but service was good and relatively quick.

Fantastic Gullash for a small price. The menu covers almost all traditional typical Hungarian dishes. The staff is very fast and attentive. Definitely worth checking out. Desserts are also lovely! I recommend the chestnut purée :)

First Hungarian food experience. I have to say though, that I didn't like the food much. Quality is good and portions are big, but it is not to my taste. I guess we are not used to spiceless food. Don't go if you don't like bland white food

This is by far the best traditional hungarian restaurant I tried the few days I was in budapest. If you don't want to pay a fortune but want to try all the different quality dishes of this culture , this is the place . Cheap prices , tasty dishes , fast service and the most polite and helpful waiter ever . We thought of changing our flight back to Athens to just visit the place again . Strongly recommended.

There is traditional Hungarian dishes place. There is no reservation required and it is really good thing that you want to eat traditional food randomly (other places generally want a reservation unfortunately) but since they do not take a reservation, there are long queues. Dishes are tasty and have satisfying portions. Wines are also good and generous. We tried meat goulash and chicken paprika. Both of them tasty and recommended

Awsome food, service and process. We had the goulash which was served as a stew which was very well cooked, great cuts and not chewy. Chicken soup was so delicious!! Highly recommended place.

This is the place to try the best served Hungarian food at reasonable prices. We were lucky to reach early and only noticed a long queue of people to eat at the restaurant as the evening went by. Go for it for the food . Thanks to the owners for maintaining the authentic feel of the place

It was a highly recommended spot, but I thought it was merely passable. The goulash had an excellent rich taste but the neat wasn't a good cut. Some of it could have been for the dog! Fries were well cooked. Friendly service. Expect a wait as tables are usually full

A traditional Hungarian restaurant with very nice waiters. Food was quite nice as were the drinks. Very quick to order and for food to arrive. Waiters were very attentive. Only thing to remember or check is that there is a service charge on the meal (just incase you don’t know what the extra charge amount is).

The food quality was good but not anything impressive. We had beef stews which contain a bit of cartilage. It can be served either with fries, noodles, rice, or potatoes. Also, a fried pork cutlet filled with ham and cheese. The service was quick.

We tried this restaurant as a recommendation for a cheap place to eat in Budapest. The prices were fair, but the food not as good as I expected. I ordered the goulash which wasn't a great surprise. Just regular food. The staff was nice, though. Our waitress spoke Hungarian only, but she was really nice when trying to explain the menu. She was also really kind through the service.

Delightfull beyond expectation. The fruit soup is a definite must try. Savory and refreshing. It is a perfect desert but also meal. The bakoni gulyas was just perfect and the Makos guba impressed me in a very delicious way. This is our order list: Fruit soup Fried cheese, fasirt, bakoni gulyas and potatos, makos guba, lemonade Beefgulash, rice and peas, the peach thing

It's typical Hungarian food, but It is almost exclusively for tourist. The atmosphere is not very welcoming but the food was good enough for a very cheap price. Some waiters are kind of rude but others are great.

Stopped here because I read about the good prices and delicious food and we weren’t disappointed. I had the chicken paprikash with noodles, which was super filling and delicious. Just keep in mind the prices on the menu for the dishes don’t include any sides, so adding the noodles brought my total to about $10 usd, but it’s still a great deal. Super efficient service as well. Definitely worth a stop.

Able to seat 3 of us an hour before closing. Managed to get my beef goulash I’ve been looking forward to all trip. Not sure if it’s the correct pairing but I got a bottle of raspberry beer to wash it down 😅. Good service from staff. One thing to note is majority of dishes you need to order chips/rice/salad as an extra

Nice and little Restaurant with a big variety of different dishes. It is a typical and traditional Hungarian restaurant for a very reasonable price. FOOD DRINKS For the drinks we ordered some Beer, Water and the Homemade Lemonade, which was very tasty and typical Hungarian and we can recommend it. For the Food we tried different dishes, which I will enumerate. 1. The Bean Soup was good and tasty. It was cooked very well and the beans had a perfect bite. We ordered the bean soup twice . The first time at the evening and here it was perfect und the second time for lunch, which was not so good at all. The taste was not so intensive. Maybe because it is cooked all the day and in the evening it it going to be more intensive. 2. We tried the fried mushrooms, which was not really good. I think that they use mushrooms out of a glas, because when you bite one, the hot water runs out of the fried mushroom and all in all the taste was not like fresh mushrooms. 3. For the Main we ordered the Paprikás Csirkemell for 1699 HUF, the Vörösboros marhapörkölt for 1899 HUF and the Nockerln. All of them were very tasty and good at all. For me it could be a little bit more spicy, but all in all it was a reasonable food with good and a lot of meat. 4. For the sides we got some tomato and cucumber salad with Creme Fresh. Both of them were nice, but a little bit too sweet at all. In total there are good salads and you will have nothing to complain. 5. For the dessert I went for 2 Palacsinta (319 HUF each) with cottage cheese and nut. It was a good finish and a nice dessert, but the nut filling had a little old taste and the cottage cheese was too warm. The roll both Palacsinta and afterwards they put it in the microwave. This is nice and okay, but with a very hot cottage cheese the taste was not sooo good at all. SERVICE All of the waiters speak a good englisch language. We felt welcome and everybody was very friendly. If you want to pay, then you have to go to the counter and tell the waiter you table number and then you can pay in cash or by card. RESTAURANT The Restaurant has two floors and only seats inside. It is not that cosy at all and has more the character of a Gastro Pub. LOCATION The Restaurant is located in the Budapest city Center and directly at the Kiraly Utca. There are some parking spaces around the restaurant, but you have to pay for them.

We went there without reservation and wait around 10 min. , Food was delicious and quickly served, decent price, the guy with glasses who served for us was really polite and talked in English. Recommend;)

We had the beef goulash, pork with mushroom cream sauce and crepes to finish with. The beef goulash was really good. The crepes, covered in chocolate sauce, was surprisingly delicious. The mushroom pork was edible. The place is hectic, and the staff were constantly working frantically. I felt for them. The food was good and it’s known as a budget friendly traditional restaurant, which can be seen by the clientele (young people and drinking groups). We came by accident (caught by rainstorm) so wasn’t sure what to expect. I would definitely recommend for a good meal, at affordable prices.

  • 4/5 Pilar C. 9 months ago on Google
The food was good just a little bit fatty for my liking. Good value for money. The place doesn't have a great atmosphere however you can feel it like a traditional Hungarian place, a little warm inside 🥵.

For a tourist who doesn't mind experiencing New flavors, eating Hungarian food was exciting. I loved the food. To my Indian palate, it was bland but then its a choice between the charted and uncharted.
