When it’s tasty, good authentic cuisine there is no words. 👍👍👍👍 Thanks to all the staff and the owners for doing what you love so much! In this place you’ll enjoy a tasty authentic Hungarian plates and high service. This evening we tasted an Hungarian goulash, duck leg with sour cabbage and dumplings, a plate with starters and cold fresh cherry bear🇭🇺 And last we tried two traditional deserts. Everything was amazing! I’ll recommend to book the table beforehand because it’s a very popular place and not very spacious.

Really enjoyed everything in this restaurant. To better describe this place, I will mention that in the first page of the menu you can read the story of this restaurant in which the owners, being abroad, missed their grandmothers food and hence this restaurant was created to share the meals they grew up with with everyone else. I have to say that they really achieved the idea with which they conceived this restaurant. It is cozy, offers a very friendly and warm service while the menu is well covered with traditional Hungarian dishes elaborated with locally sourced products. It is a pleasure eating in this place, delicious and fresh food as a Hungarian grandmother would do. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Budapest who wants to enjoy tradicional Hungarian food, or who just wants to enjoy a good meal in a cozy atmosphere.

(Translated by Google) This place is brilliant! Very professional service. The bistro is small so make reservations. Live music is a big advantage, as well as a very romantic interior. We had the pleasure of trying the goulash soup, which was very good, filling. We get bread in the soup and if there is not enough of it, the staff brings an extra portion and adds water. We paid 7000 ft for two goulash soups, beer and wine. We received a welcome starter in the form of bread with a paste, and a goodbye glass of local alcohol. This is a place where the client feels 100% taken care of. I recommend! Do zupy dostajemy chleba i jeśli go zabraknie, obsługa przynosi dodatkową porcję oraz dolewa wodę. Polecam!

(Translated by Google) I recommend !!! Delicious food may not be the cheapest, but the atmosphere of the place is great. There are only a few tables and that's it - then the service has time for you. Two nice ladies speak excellent English.

Very delicious food! :) I had the goulash soup, the stuffed cabbage and the Hungarian sponge cake and everything was exactly like what it needed to be to make me happy. The service was very friendly, fast but not pushy and so I left the restaurant very happy. That is exactly what I was looking for so I had a perfect dinner at this little beautiful restaurant. Just make sure to make a reservation beforehand, I was very lucky to get a free place for one person because I was there just at the right time it seems.

Great place, service at the highest level - despite the lack of a reservation, the staff conjured up a table for one hour for us. The dishes are wonderful - delicious and worth the money - the atmosphere of the restaurant is wonderful and live music. I highly recommend it - this place is a must to visit and taste Hungarian cuisine. I recommend highly !

Can I Give 6⭐️? First of all the staff are really friendly and super nice. Also, you will be amazed by the decoration because it’s super interesting. We came up as a group and ordered duck leg Endrodi chicken breast. They were amazing. Great texture, portion and style. They taste awesome. You definitely need to try them. Also there are some drinks and they are bigger than you expect. I would put this restaurant in my top 5 ever list. There was a service fee as they served us with sour bread and Hungarian snack at beginning and also at the end with alcoholic drink.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at this charming Hungarian restaurant on a fine evening. The experience was delightful, as I savored a variety of traditional Hungarian dishes. The tenderloin was rich and hearty, the beef cheek had a perfect balance of spices. The warm and cozy atmosphere added to the overall experience, making it a wonderful choice for those seeking an authentic taste of Hungary on a special evening. The service personnel were amazing and helpful, and we complimented the Chef specifically for the food! Highly recommended!!

The service from the young ladies here is amazing and they speak great English. Combined with the live piano music is even better. It adds to the complete atmosphere of being in your grandma's kitchen. The food portions are quite filling and what I had ordered (meatballs with mashed potatoes) was very tasty, albeit just a tiny bit salty. Overall great place where I felt at home. Definite recommend.

I believe we found one of the best Hungarian restaurant with it’s warm, relaxing atmosphere. The live music was played by a pianist that gave a pretty good match with the surrounding. The decoration and the lighting make you feel you are in home. Service was excellent and attentive. Roli (as much as remember his name) made our night unforgettable. Have a look on the food that was excellent and surprisingly light and well presented. Highly recommended to people who wants to try traditional authentic Hungarian dishes with a twist of high elegance.

We had an amazing experience at Retek. It has a really nice atmosphere with live piano and tasteful decorations, and a well designed menu. Despite being crowded we got a table right away and the staff were very polite and welcoming. We had the stuffed cabbage, pork ribs, pasta, and fried meatballs and my favorite was the stuffed cabbage! They are all delicious worth trying. Would come here again for sure

The best meal we had whilst staying in Budapest! Cannot speak highly enough of this family run restaurant; the food was simply amazing, the staff were friendly and the atmosphere was charming (made better by a pianist). This is the best food experience we have ever had, so if you're in Budapest then Retek needs to be at the top of your foodie list. A word of advice, book a table so you are not disappointed as we saw so many turned away during our visit.

Absolute gem. Everything was delicious and authentic. Ambiance was great and included someone playing the piano while we were there. We ordered the stuffed cabbage and the meatballs and both were great. We also ordered the sponge cake as dessert almost as an afterthought and it may have been the best dessert I ever had. You should really make a reservation, though we did manage to squeeze in by walking in and being a bit flexible on the timing.

(Translated by Google) Like in grandma’s kitchen. As the title suggests, the Retek Bisztro is not for people who are looking for a large, modern and simple restaurant. Personally, I was initially very surprised about the '' size '' of the Retek and if it had been from the outside, if I hadn't been walking with Google Maps in my hand, it was almost overlooked, but inside it was a feeling of true tradition, down-to-earthness and one had Due to the few available tables and correspondingly fewer guests, more '' privacy '' than in huge, overcrowded restaurants. I also read among the other reviews of the Retek that the operation was very slow or disinterested, but I can only write in my review what I noticed and I can not support this opinion with the best of will. The waitress did exactly what I imagine a good waitress would do: We hardly had to wait after we sat down at the table and the cards were brought to us. People were interested, attentive but not too intrusive or asked with too long time intervals what we would like to drink, whether it should be a starter or an aperitif and later after the main course. In between, the glass of water was filled up here and there by the waitress and even in the situation where I asked for a recommendation of a good meat dish, I can only say again that the waitress seemed very interested and no wish from one has knocked off an extra ingredient on the meal or a tasting of the wine. In my opinion, it is often details that make a restaurant stand out. Waiting time must always be taken into account, but even at this point, the small room and the few guests associated with it were very much in favor of the chefs, as all the dishes were served comparatively really quickly and the waiting times were generally very limited. Even the detail that you weren't just served a basket of bread (we're not talking about an ordered side dish, but the standard moderate white bread, which is always available with it), but the bread basket was laid out with a nice napkin and a small one Pot of hot sauce was served. The sauce or the dip went down very well with me. Some people like it simple, filigree and simple, but for me as a passionate eater the atmosphere came across as very domestic and comfortable. Garlic hung from the walls, cute decorations, sausages and meat hung over the shop window next to the front door and the entire counter was decorated with pickled olives, peppers, pickled cucumbers, various types of wine and much more and one was already looking forward to the meal to let. I can't say much about the dishes themselves because they were just extremely delicious. We were there with eight people and everyone was pleasantly surprised by their meal. Even simple pork chops were accompanied very well with traditional Hungarian spices, onions and peppers and still resulted in a unique taste experience. But I liked the lamb even better, which my father ordered with homemade spaetzle. We also found the wine very good! Similar good dishes can certainly be found in many other restaurants, but the Retek is clearly characterized by the cozy and traditional atmosphere, in which you are more to yourself and are also better taken care of. This is exactly where the title of this review comes in. In my honest opinion, this restaurant is really worth a recommendation! 5 Stars. best regards Patrick (Original) Wie in Omas Küche. 5 Sterne. Liebe Grüße Patrick

In the evening we were served personally by the owner, who could tell us a lot. There was also relaxed jazz live music which was also an enrichment. The menu is not very comprehensive, but every dish is very tasty. There were 8 of us in the evening, which is why we were able to test many dishes and always with a positive answer. The waiting time and prices were also perfectly fine. Definitely highly recommended if you want to try traditional Hungarian cuisine and hope for pleasant service. Cozy little restaurant offering warm atmosphere and perfect meal. Girls will love this modern and traditional Hungary style interior. Made reservation two days before. Be sure to do that in Budapest if you really want to get the seat!

Sequence of nostalgia for my wife with a decoration reminding her of her grandparents' apartment and everyday objects cleverly diverted. New visit and last meal in Budapest this Friday evening with the added bonus of a musical atmosphere provided by a pianist (reservation useful). Other dishes and always very good. 7 table intimate dining serving authentic Hungarian food and wine. The food and service was outstanding. They had lots of interesting embroidery and local curiosities on display. They had a keyboard player who played very pleasant accompaniment to our meal. Reservations are a must and we made ours 2 weeks in advance. This was a great start to out Budapest vacation.

We have been for a dinner in June this year. Great location near the Parliament, cozy and nice atmosphere, service is great. We started with amuse bouche from the restaurant before serving us the meals we ordered. We had a Goulash soup, there is also a menu of soup , main course and dessert. Everything was very tasty , there is a good list of wines by glass too. As a compliment after the dinner they served us traditional liquor. Maybe it’s a bit more expensive comparing to other places but it’s worth it.

The place is fabulous! You are taken care of so well from the moment you walk in! Superb service! Food is absolutely delicious.. don’t leave without trying goulash! Ambience is so cute!! Almost missed the place as it’s a bit hidden but so glad I found it walking around the city with my mom. Can’t wait to go back!!!

Excellent. Simple and excellent. It has everything you await from bistro/restaurant. Cozy ambiente. Big portions. Nice food presentation. Great local wines. Just perfectly seasoned food. Very friendly staff. Food was quickly on the table. We were simply happy and will come gladly again 👌🏻

I was blown away by this restaurant. It was my first exposure to Hungarian food. The environment was delightful and everything was so delicious. We started off with the Langos & goulash & they were both so good, we probably could have stopped there. They bring out some spicy sauce to add to the goulash, which I recommend, if you like spicy foods! We ordered a glass of their house recommend white wine, and it was also amazing. For dinner, I got the stuffed sour cabbage. It was amazing served in a light tomato sauce. I got a side of the pickled vegetables as well. We tried the poppy seed bread pudding and were pleasantly surprised. They also top off dinner with complimentary honey liquor & a piece of candy. The presentation of each dish was beautiful and the flavors were just as good.

We had a great dinner, authentic Hungarian food but with a modern twist. The food was really good, the best out of all the Hungarian restaurants we tried. Good wine selection and lovely atmosphere

Really recommend this place if you're visiting Budapest. Do make a reservation ahead of time as I'm not sure how easy it would be to be able to get a table otherwise. The service was great and decor of the restaurant was so cute. Food was so comforting - absolutely loved the goulash soup, we also had the chicken paparikas and duck leg for mains and lastly the sponge cake for dessert. Lemonade was 👍👍 There's a little surprise tiny appetizer and a shot to go at the end!

Very cozy place. Staff is polite and very friendly. Our waiter gave us some practical advices. Thank you for this. Live music (piano) Attention: you have 1.30 hour to eat and then leave your table. Attention: you will receive a certain amount for the Service in your bill (in our case it was 3 218 Ft = 9 euros) Our bill for 2 people was 24 660 Ft (~65 euros)

Best restaurant in Budapest!! Every dish was so tasty. We especially love the chicken paprika. A little fusion with the truffle oil takes it to another level! The Lángos was the best we’ve had. A little critic is the meatball was a bit salty. Really great service with live piano music.

AMAZING. Top quality food and service. We visited on a Thursday night and ordered a mixture of different dishes. Everyone in the restaurant was very welcoming and friendly. The highlights included the Goulash, Beef Cutlets and Chicken Paprikash. Will definitely come back here next time we visit. Thank you!

Great food, everything was fresh, balanced, and well presented. Service was good, and staff was polite and helpful. Really liked the design and ambiance. Would recommend for a lunch or dinner. It is on the expensive side compared to more local options, but worth it.

Our hotel receptionist recommended this place and loved it. We went to the smaller store and the staff greeted us warmly and proceed to show to the main room 2 doors away. Cosy and welcoming, great service team. We ordered the Hungarian beef goulash soup served and Hungarian Style Deep Fried Meatballs. We were served appetiser - a pancake with minced chicken and paprika. The goulash stew was served with a basket of sour dough bread and a side of paprika paste (proceed with caution - it’s hot but it made a great stew better with spice) The fried meatballs served with creamy mashed potatoes and pickled cucumbers - these are super tasty too. When you thought your meal is over, the staff bring over free shots of Hungarian Palinka, served as a digestive drink. These are super strong too, but it leaves a pleasant experience overall. Make a reservation otherwise they are always full.

Lovely bistro in the city centre. The menu was a good variety and there are also daily dishes which you can choose apart from the regular menu. It offers typical Hungarian cuisine and everything that I tasted was really delicious. Price was very good. Finally the staff was extremely polite and service was fast.

I need to give it a 10/10! The waitress are so nice and the meals are so impressive. I ordered the duck breast and everything is perfect, includes the pasta with cheese below. They also send us the bread with their special spicy sauce, really special and spicy. Also the dessert! I forgot the name but which they highly recommend, tastes really special and delicious! Anyway, I will come back!

Stumbled across this Bistro by chance alone, how lucky! The place has an incredibly charming atmosphere and the decor inside is vintage with a modern touch. Near the Parliament building, the location is awesome. Food was delicious and not very expensive (around 15€ per person, one dish and shared water). They have us a free shot of Hungarian liquor on the house. I absolutely recommend!

Hands down one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to! We were able to get a reservation day of, despite the restaurant being so small. I’m glad we got the chance to go! We had a wonderful experience—charming atmosphere, friendly staff, and delicious food! If you’re looking to try some traditional Hungarian dishes, you have to visit Retek!

We were lucky enough to get a table at this restaurant for dinner without a reservation and before the rush. The steak tartare was exceptional, maybe even better than the ones I've had in France. If you're looking for traditional Hungarian food with a flair, this is it.

We were recommended this place and it exceeded all expectations! We luckily managed to secure a space after a reserved table didn’t show up otherwise the restaurant was fully booked and I can completely see why. The food was some of the best I’ve had in my life although I couldn’t eat it every day as it’s very rich but I would have it every so often and would recommend this restaurant to anyone who’s coming to Budapest. Dare I say this is the best restaurant around! The service was top notch and we got a taster on the house as well as bread for the table and a shot of palinka at the end. The atmosphere was also 10/10, with a live pianist and beautiful decorations, lighting, and ambience. I went for my mother’s birthday and I would say it’s perfect for a special occasion!

Excellent from start to finish. Meet and greet was excellent. The waiter was excellent. The food was excellent. The menu was excellent. The ambience was excellent. The Plinka shots at the end - deadly but a very nice touch! It was all so clean and very high quality from all different angles. We would highly recommend!

We stumbled upon this place on Google Maps and decided to give it a try, which we definitely don’t regret! Within ten minutes of opening the restaurant was completely full. We were lucky to get a table without a reservation, but I would strongly recommend to make a reservation ahead of time. Service was super friendly and the food was delicious. We paid 24000 huf for 2 (big) appetizers, 2 main courses as well as two beers. Would recommend it to everyone visiting Budapest :-)

The service was unbelievably good and food was excellent. Atmosphere was absolutely fantastic. We love this place and highly recommend anyone for a wonderful lunch here. Restaurant fills up very quickly and i recommend booking in advance otherwise you will be disappointed. We were lucky when we walk in and were given a table with a later reservation. We had more than 2 hours to eat before the next reservation guests arrive. We appreciate that they didn’t turn us away. Thank You.

They welcomed us even though we hadn't booked. They were nice and very close the whole dinner. Their food was excellent. They had live piano music that made everything even more special. They called us a taxi at the end of our dinner. You made a very special day in Budapest even more memorable. Thank you so much for everything!!!

If you're looking for delicious Hungarian cuisine with a very cozy & inviting still modern atmosphere don't look further. Decided on the fly to give it a try and was lucky enough to get a free table during the week. The staff is super friendly and careful while the food was simply amazing. Every bite was an experience you should not miss. Had a great dinner. Would recommend to place a reservation so you enjoy a wonderful evening here.

Very cozy atmosphere, the live piano was really great. The stuff was kind and helpful. Goulash soup was really really tasty. But nothing special to other dishes that we tried. Paprikash needed salt in my opinion and pork was a little bit tough. Portions could be bigger. Nice move the treat at the beginning 😀

NYE Menu. Amazing service, so kind! Portions too big, specially desert. Overall could consider adding more spices to the dishes. Slightly blant in flavor. Too little veggie options, none vegan. Okay wine selection.
