Restaurant is located at quiet street and is a perfect place to have a lunch. You won’t wait for your meal for too long which is great if you are looking for high quality dish really fast. Hamburger was delicious. Meet perfectly seasoned, really good combination with gorgonzola cheese. I appreciated mayo and ketchup with fries. Soup was delicious. I also ordered beef stew. Almost everything was good apart from some pieces of meat that were really tough and chewy, it really ruined the experience. Hence only four stars.

Despite that reservation is mandatory as the place is early full packed, the lady at the reception was really nice and provided us with a table for four with minimum wait at time 7pm. The service was friendly, quick and very helpful. Menu is supported by QR code with photos. We selected goulash and garlic soups, grilled duck with risotto parmesan, duck with gnocchi, beef with onion rings and beef stew with spaetzle. Amazing dishes with big portions. All together with four glasses of wine cost of 100€.

We LOVED this restaurant so much! ❤️ I have really wanted to come check them out for a long time and I had such a great time here! The service was very kind, attentive and quick, we got our food within like 10-15 minutes after ordering and it was almost full-house! The dishes were phenomenal, I highly recommend the pulled lamb with Moroccan spices, it was so good! We loved the desserts too. The prices are reasonable considering the portion sizes. I suggest making a reservation in advance. I will definitely come back here, highly recommend!

Good place to try out authentic Hungarian food. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff. better yo reserve your seats or might take time to get seats in peak time. Almost all the dishes we tried was tasty. Goulash, meat stew, stuffed cabbage etc all are mouth watering. The starters are good too. So are the deserts

Really delicious Hungarian food! We were recommended by our walking tour guide, we didn’t make a booking but were able to walk in (group of 6) for 5pm. Would highly recommend the garlic cream soup and the goulash.

Great food and service! Everything was delicious including dessert. The staff were attentive and friendly. I got the roastbeef and it was delicious maybe a bit chewy but still great. The soup and liver dishes were also fantastic. Portions are big also. Could definitely come again if I pass by!

Super pleasant atmosphere, very kind and smiling staff, the food was perfect .... I ate soup and goulash and strudel for dessert. I drank a Hugo cocktail. The meat was so tender and delicious ... all credit to the chef. Be sure to come here if you are passing by.

One of my favorite restaurants in Budapest. The menu is stacked and generally all dishes are good, with noticeable highlights like the Hungarian stew, goulash, and especially the roasted duck on risotto! The place also serves awesome drinks. Very reasonable prices, restaurant is classy and well-designed, and the service were very friendly. Highly recommended.

After reading the reviews, we decided to walk to this restaurant, two blocks from our hotel. It did not disappoint. All outdoor tables were taken so we were seated indoors, which was nice and cool. We ordered the goulash, ratatouille with sausage and eggs, and grilled duck breast with mushroom risotto. All three dishes were flavorful and generous in size. The pink cactus cocktail was great, too! Service was well paced and the staff was friendly. There was a mix of tourists and locals. Great food and service!

The food was actually quite good. I got as many local dishes as I could and I really enjoyed every single one. However, since this place is a bit popular it’s better if you book a table the day before. I had to wait for 30 minutes in the park outside because there was a line with people waiting to have their lunch. If you are visiting for the first time and you haven’t booked a table it’s still worth the wait.

FAVORITE RESTAURANT IN BUDAPEST. I was lucky to get a table here for lunch without a reservation, especially for a party of 9, including a disabled family member and 2 children (4 and 7 years old). This is a high end restaurant offering a variety of options but mainly Hungarian cuisine. Everything we tried here had an amazing quality and food was fresh. Something I had never seen before in a restaurant was the amazing acoustics thanks to fancy soundproof walls which were both elegant and at the same time allowed for us to hear the great restaurant’s music but at the same time able to hear each other easily without back noise from other tables. Service was great with waiters taking care of us at all times and food was delivered fast and at the right temperature. Restrooms were fancy and clean. Very good with kids which in my opinion is rare in Europe. Location is in the middle of the fancy design district with famous designers nearby. Overall, amazing food, ambience and service which turned out to be very inexpensive since we paid €180 for our whole party of 9 including 3 desserts and alcoholic beverages.

(Translated by Google) I have been going to Menza since it opened (about 15 years ago). Of course, the food is perfect, but what makes it stand out to me from most of the surrounding tourist stripping spots is that the staff is always on top. At the age of 32, when I go on a date dressed up, I am treated with the same openness and respect as at the age of 20 as a slightly torn college student. I like a lot of places in Pest, but if anyone asks me, I recommend Menza first, because for so much time, it represents such a high standard. (Original) Nyitás óta (kb. 15 éve) szoktam a Menzába menni.

(Translated by Google) This place is brilliant! Very professional service. The bistro is small so make reservations. Live music is a big advantage, as well as a very romantic interior. We had the pleasure of trying the goulash soup, which was very good, filling. We get bread in the soup and if there is not enough of it, the staff brings an extra portion and adds water. We paid 7000 ft for two goulash soups, beer and wine. We received a welcome starter in the form of bread with a paste, and a goodbye glass of local alcohol. This is a place where the client feels 100% taken care of. I recommend! Do zupy dostajemy chleba i jeśli go zabraknie, obsługa przynosi dodatkową porcję oraz dolewa wodę. Polecam!

nothing to say about the very good and well presented dishes and the very friendly waiters who presented the local dishes to us, the fast service and pleasant surroundings. on the other hand the young girl who was in charge of the reception is very very unpleasant spoke to us very badly and in a haughty and contemptuous way and left us waiting in the bar long enough to find a table when there were several places free in the restaurant I raised several times because we have a flight planned but she didn't want to understand anything she put us in a table outside in a very contemptuous way. luckily we asked again and there was the manager who saved the situation and put us in a place inside the restaurant. the person at the reception must do a training to better speak with his customers and arrange them.

Great place to taste local food. There is plenty of space but it's better to book a table because it's always full. We had different local dishes like goulash or beef stew and it was delicious with lots of flavor, as it was the Schnitzel. Very good prices overall and at least when we went there, it wasn't touristy at all.

It was one of saved restaurants in Budapest, and i’m satisfied. I tried Goulash, it was better than I thought, it’s good to with bread and not too salty! Goat cheese was fascinating! It’s flavorful and richness. Gnocchi was not bad but the duck breast overdone a bit. The staffs also friendly and passionate!

We searched for restaurants in Budapest that serves Hungarian dishes with vegetarian options. We saw the good reviews of this restaurant and decided to go. We came and were seated outside, near a flowerpot that caused one or two ants to climb to our table. We ordered the food(goulash, duck breast with risotto, ravioli and more dishes). The waitress made sure that the goulash and the ravioli are starters. We got the starters about 10-15 min after ordering it. The goulash was absolutely great but not too big(it did came with generous amounts of bread in my opinion). We expected to get our main dishes in no more than 10-15(which makes sense because there was enough time to make the dishes while we ate the starters) we waited for 30 min and than decided to ask other waiter why is it taking so long( by this time our waitress disappeared) and he told us it’s on the way, we waited for 10 more minutes and than asked other waitress and after 5 min we finally got our food. The duck breas with risotto was tasty, the duck wasn’t very good, was too done(in my opinion) but the risotto was the best I have had. When we got the check they added the 12% service fee to our bill, which is fine when it’s deserved, but we got horrible service, at least they agreed to remove the service fee( in my opinion they should’ve removed it from the beginning knowing that we waited for too long) Overall the food is very good and I hope that my experience is rare.

This is the best meal I have had in Budapest. Creative dishes and super friendly staff, while the meal is affordable. I think they deserve a Michelin star nomination. I had a venison mushroom pasta, which is one of the chef offers that week. It tastes sooooo good. The type of mushroom 🍄 is special. The crispy kale and carrot on top create a very nice texture for the pasta.

The entire experience was very pleasant. We sat outdoors and waiter was brilliant but the service was slightly slow. The food tasted incredibly good. The duck risotto was very very good and I highly recommend it. Garlic lovers should go for the garlic soup. Good value for money.

Good value for food but I had a little higher expectations. The salad and goulash were very good but the main dishes were too salty to eat (risotto was very good but the duck breast was very try and tough). Overall very hearty meal and good service as well!

The service from the young ladies here is amazing and they speak great English. Combined with the live piano music is even better. It adds to the complete atmosphere of being in your grandma's kitchen. The food portions are quite filling and what I had ordered (meatballs with mashed potatoes) was very tasty, albeit just a tiny bit salty. Overall great place where I felt at home. Definite recommend.

Great place! It is located in Liszt platz, which is a pretty park with a lot a trees and restaurants. They offer the lunch menu for 1290Fl (4.3€), which includes 2 courses (soup and main dish), although it is not a big portion, is very tasty. The bad side, is that the menu is only in Hungarian 😅

One word to describe this place would be "fusion". They offer a menu with a great variety of food- specifically traditional Hungarian dishes. Their beef stew was very well-cooked and tasty. I recommend their own Rosa as well. Consider reserving in advance, because it tends to fill up very quickly, at lunch time as well.

Totally recommended 😎 We ordered some cocktails first, which was obviously made there and not ready ones. They tasted great and unique. Then for starters we tried goulash and I can confirm that we all love it 😍 It is tasty and really different taste. For main dish we tried four different ones and each of them was great. Well cooked meats, freshly salad and bread. I will go back for sure.

Had a good lunch at Menza. The place can be touristy and the crowd can be mostly tourists at certain time. That being said, the food was delicious, service was prompt, food was served fast and the prices were reasonable as well. We had a small Langos, Hungarian Goulash and the Duck Liver with Mashed Potatoes. All 3 dishes were delicious and on point. There will be a obligatory 12% service charge added to final bill. Recommend this place and the Duck Liver delicacy!

I recently dined at Menza Étterem és Kávézó, and I must say that the food was absolutely fantastic. The restaurant offers a delightful selection of dishes, with the standout being the duck. The flavors were rich and perfectly balanced, and the presentation was visually appealing. The menu showcases a creative fusion of Hungarian and international cuisine, and the quality of the ingredients used was evident in every bite. However, I was disappointed with the service at Menza Étterem és Kávézó. Despite the restaurant being relatively empty, the staff seemed inattentive and uninterested in providing a satisfactory dining experience. I noticed a lack of professionalism and a general apathy towards customer service. It was disheartening to see that even with the restaurant being far from busy, they made customers wait unnecessarily, giving the impression of high demand. Despite the subpar service, the delicious food at Menza Étterem és Kávézó makes it worth a visit, especially if you have a craving for delectable duck dishes. The ambiance of the restaurant is trendy and stylish, with a retro touch that adds charm to the dining experience. The decor and atmosphere create a lively and vibrant setting, perfect for enjoying a meal with friends or loved ones. Overall, Menza Étterem és Kávézó is a mixed bag. While the food, particularly the duck, is outstanding, the service leaves much to be desired. If you can overlook the lackluster service and focus on the culinary delights, you're sure to have a memorable dining experience at this establishment.

I went to this restaurant twice in 2 days - once for dinner and then again for lunch, need I say more??? I'm on a family vacation in Budapest, and it's one of our favorites of all the restaurants we've been to on our 18 day Europe trip. The beef gloush was really tasty and wasn't too salty. I also had the beef tartare as an appetizer and was glad I didn't have to share it with anyone because I really enjoyed it! I had the duck liver for dinner and it was really good! It was well seared on the top, lightly salted, and mixed with the sauce and mashed potatoes and I was in heaven! My husband had the traditional Hungarian beef stew, and he liked it. But our experience was so good, we came back for more, and had lunch there a day later. I ordered the duck breast and my partner ordered a duck burger. Both were great. My partner enjoyed his burger. The duck breast was a little tough (I ordered medium), but the risotto was so good, it made up for the slight toughness of the duck breast. I still prefer the duck liver! But in terms of food quality and atmosphere, I would recommend this place. It was nice and service was prompt.

Probably one of the best places to try out if it’s your first time eating Hungarian food. The food and service were amazing. Every penny it’s worth it. We tried the duck rissotto (it was a recommendation of the guide of a tour we did earlier that day) and we were a little bite skeptical about the taste of duck meat but it was delicious. We definitely recommend that and the schnitzel, which was quite big.

Menza restaurant exceeded all expectations. The vibrant atmosphere, coupled with exceptionally kind staff, set the perfect tone. The food was a delightful revelation, each dish bursting with flavor. Celebrating their 20th anniversary was a special treat; live music from a talented quartet complemented the warm welcome spread. A memorable dining experience that I'll cherish.

Just got out and marked it as a favourite spot in Pest. From the outside it looks like a small and sidestreet restaurant, but that is not the case. Service is top level, inside the ceiling is hall-height. The food is great and well accomplished. I definitely would return and try something else, but the chicken paprikash I had was awesome.

The goulash was very delicious. Hungarian beef could be better. However the staff has some attitude which I didn’t like. The manager was very nice to us since our order was late more than 1 hour. They don’t divide the payment normally so it is better to go individually rather than groups…

Having visited Menza numerous times throughout the last years, I can honestly say that this restaurant is able to provide consistent food quality and quantity while offering them for a very fair price. Sometimes it might be a bit busy in this establishment, but thanks to the large amount of tables and seats, there might always be a spot for you within minutes. The staff and atmosphere is very relaxed and professional, and the servers have a wide knowledge of their dishes. Menza is a great spot if your looking for both traditional Hungarian cuisine, or looking for a bit more international or higher cuisine food. Big recommend at any time of the year, for any occasion, with anybody. Satisfaction guaranteed!

Loved it! One of the best in Budapest with a menu that will blow your mind in that they have traditional Magyar food, but also international stuff with a twist I couldn't eat my dinner so they had it for takeout, the best such service I've ever had Taste of the food is clearly above average and the prices are really good considering the quality Service is friendly and they handle the clients gracefully Will return

This was my last meal in Budapest, please make a reservation, we went there in shoulder season and our proposed wait time was an hour, when I went back solo my wait time was 30 mins because I wanted to sit inside. You’ll see many order the hamburger, which I’m sure is good. But it’s the DUCK Breast that’s the signature dish and it’s GOOD!!! Great restaurant with really great prices. Service was very kind and fast, even though the place was packed. The place is usually full and they tell you to wait 30. The wait doesn't take more than a few minutes though, just stick around. Recommend the crepe with chicken for starter, the goose liver for main (it was really good!) and cheesecake for desert.

Food was very tasty and the service was good. Overall experience was great and home-like. The bill included a tip which wasn't clear to us, unfortunately. Also it was divided into a tip of food and a tip for drinks... I can recommend making it more clear in the menu (since I was really looking in it, and even took a pic of the menu, because it was lovely designed, and still missed it). I prefer when I get to choose my rate of tip. Also, the waiter decided to round the bill on her favour, which was unnecessary since we paid with a credit card. I later got an explanation from the owner, and she invited us for a re-visit. Which was very kind of her.

(Translated by Google) Like in grandma’s kitchen. As the title suggests, the Retek Bisztro is not for people who are looking for a large, modern and simple restaurant. Personally, I was initially very surprised about the '' size '' of the Retek and if it had been from the outside, if I hadn't been walking with Google Maps in my hand, it was almost overlooked, but inside it was a feeling of true tradition, down-to-earthness and one had Due to the few available tables and correspondingly fewer guests, more '' privacy '' than in huge, overcrowded restaurants. I also read among the other reviews of the Retek that the operation was very slow or disinterested, but I can only write in my review what I noticed and I can not support this opinion with the best of will. The waitress did exactly what I imagine a good waitress would do: We hardly had to wait after we sat down at the table and the cards were brought to us. People were interested, attentive but not too intrusive or asked with too long time intervals what we would like to drink, whether it should be a starter or an aperitif and later after the main course. In between, the glass of water was filled up here and there by the waitress and even in the situation where I asked for a recommendation of a good meat dish, I can only say again that the waitress seemed very interested and no wish from one has knocked off an extra ingredient on the meal or a tasting of the wine. In my opinion, it is often details that make a restaurant stand out. Waiting time must always be taken into account, but even at this point, the small room and the few guests associated with it were very much in favor of the chefs, as all the dishes were served comparatively really quickly and the waiting times were generally very limited. Even the detail that you weren't just served a basket of bread (we're not talking about an ordered side dish, but the standard moderate white bread, which is always available with it), but the bread basket was laid out with a nice napkin and a small one Pot of hot sauce was served. The sauce or the dip went down very well with me. Some people like it simple, filigree and simple, but for me as a passionate eater the atmosphere came across as very domestic and comfortable. Garlic hung from the walls, cute decorations, sausages and meat hung over the shop window next to the front door and the entire counter was decorated with pickled olives, peppers, pickled cucumbers, various types of wine and much more and one was already looking forward to the meal to let. I can't say much about the dishes themselves because they were just extremely delicious. We were there with eight people and everyone was pleasantly surprised by their meal. Even simple pork chops were accompanied very well with traditional Hungarian spices, onions and peppers and still resulted in a unique taste experience. But I liked the lamb even better, which my father ordered with homemade spaetzle. We also found the wine very good! Similar good dishes can certainly be found in many other restaurants, but the Retek is clearly characterized by the cozy and traditional atmosphere, in which you are more to yourself and are also better taken care of. This is exactly where the title of this review comes in. In my honest opinion, this restaurant is really worth a recommendation! 5 Stars. best regards Patrick (Original) Wie in Omas Küche. 5 Sterne. Liebe Grüße Patrick

The place is busy but it worths waiting. The staff was flexible enough to find tables for our group of 14-15 people. Highly recommended dishes are roasted beef, schnitzel, cauliflower steak, chocolate cake with salted caramel. Without alcohol the average price per person was 12-13 eur for a main dish and a desert. The kitchen closes at 11pm.

Nice restaurant, good local food (goulash), BUT NOT A WOW! Especially the manner of the staff is not that welcoming! They are Mostly arrogant and impolite. They take the order so late that I decided to leave. They make you wait even if there are several tables left empty for a long time! I think they do it on purpose to have a long queue in front of the door to do free advertisement for themselves. I guess there are other nice restaurants to have local food. Disappointed

The food, the selection of wine is OK. The soups were pretty delicious in fact. The lamb stew was nothing special. Actually it was a bit under-spiced to my taste. We had goulash as a starter, the duck with mushroom risotto and the stew with spatzle, the chocolate cake and the floating island and everything was absolutely delicious. If I’m back to Budapest I’ll definitely come back to this one and strongly recommend it to friends. You should book a table in advance and, even though the booking said we had only one hour, we stayed for two with no problem.

Visited this restaurant as part of a team dinner together with my colleagues. I loved the interiors and ambience of this place. The service was amazing and fast. They spoke English very well. The food was about average. But not bad at all. I would recommend this place for some good Hungarian cuisine.

I had their goulash soap with noodles; it was delicious. I just wanted to keep eating it. Their service was kind and relatively quick. To complement my meal, I ordered a Borsodi beer. You should definitely come and eat here. You won’t regret it.

In our 4 days vacation in Budapest this was the best restaurant we tried, sad to try the last day when we needed to go back to the airport because we would come another time for sure. We heard about the risotto with duck but we were the same happy with all others dishes. Even the Mocktails were really good. We were full but we were also really satisfied with the quality of the food so we gave a try to the cheesecake having the same great results as all others dishes, just amazing! 100% recommendable!!

We've been coming here for years on every visit to Budapest. The decor is 60's retro. The service and the food are always amazing at reasonable prices. No wonder it's always packed!

We imagine that it would be a good experience but it was more then great! Everything that we order it was good to perfection. And The size of the plates was very good. We had a great and fast service even with full tables and at 21:50! We order 3 main courses with three glass beer and one starter we pay 25k or 67€

This place was slightly touristy however the quality of the food was not too bad. The roasted duck liver was good, slightly crispy on the outside and not too overcooked. the mashed potatoes were also very buttery and flavourful. The duck breast was a little plain and the risotto slightly hard as well but overall still ok. The goulash soup was nice. It was quite a huge portion as well and came with bread.

Truly amazing. We walked in and requested a table for 2. The staff kindly moved us to the bar before they could set up a table for us. The first thing we noticed was the modern decor that took our breath away. We started off with two refreshing drinks: a Vitamin Kick and a Mango Ice Tea. We ordered the Duck Liver Pâté for starters and two mains which were the Grilled Duck Breast with risotto and the Honey-mustard pork chop with vegetables. The meat was cooked perfectly and nothing on the plate was disappointing. All the different flavors were well-rounded. The sides were generous and just as good as the protein. We were so full after the mains that we could not order desserts. Definitely one of the best restaurants we visited in Budapest!

I will give it a 8/10. The atmosphere here is really nice. I ordered a duck breast with the risotto and the raspberry soda. All tastes really nice, the duck breast cooked very well. The risotto with mushroom also delicious!

We went with a group of almost 20 people, and they managed us with ease! Reservation was easy and straightforward a day in advance. Waiters served very swiftly and organized. Food was good, I had a delicious tomato salad and a duck leg with strawberry and asparagus. Cooking was top, just the used products were not of the highest quality, especially the meat. But totally okay. The had good declaration of allergens and a variety of gluten-free foods to choose from.

We went as part of our time visiting Budapest. We ate at quite a few different restaurants at quite varying pricepoints but this really stood out. Food was absolutely amazing. The beef stew was lovely and the roast chicken breast was probably the most succulent and flavorful chicken breast I've ever had at a restaurant. Would highly recommend trying it. Service was generally ok but a little inattentive at times. And in terms of atmosphere I struggled to understand the restaurant's identity. It wasn't clear what style of restaurant they were trying to be from the interior design to the menu options and more. However because of the food alone, I would recommend a visit!

We had lunch for 2 and everything was delicious. The waiter was nice and the quality of food really good. I loved the garlic soup with the small langos. Also loved the ratatouille (which is similar to the Spanish ‘pisto’). Highly recommend it!

The food was very good with great value for money. We ordered the grilled duck over risotto and Bavariam "burger." There's no air-conditioning inside. Service was mediocre, but overall, it was a good experience.

Food is absolutely fabulous, multiple options. My wife and I opted for the duck with risotto, and we made the right decision. Duck was Crispy on the outside, medium rare inside over a bed of savory risotto. Cherry strudel was delicious. we walked in without reservation and were promised 30 minute wait time but it took about 15 minutes at the bar.

We booked this for our first night in Budapest. The restaurant is very busy, both with tourists and locals (always a good sign!). Tables are a little cramped together and the lighting was bright and brash rather than subdued and relaxed. Food was great, though, and gave us a good introduction to Hungarian food. Tip: check the menus out in the English speaking part of the restaurant website. Not only does it list clearly all allergens, there are pictures too against most dishes!

Friday night at 9 pm, the place was packed, prompting us to return on Monday. Fortunately, we snagged a table without a reservation. The cuisine was delectable, and the prices surprisingly reasonable, even beating those at the Christmas market. Highly recommended.

Great cocktails! Delicious food! Good service! It’s a must when you visit Budapest. The duck liver was amazing, also the Wellington was a great dish.

The garlic soup with a deep fried hungarian bread worths a try if you haven’t tried before. I ordered a duck breast with mushroom risotto is AMAZING, the duck is so moist, so tender, well seasoned without covering the taste of the duck, but personally the risotto is alright for me. However, my partner has ordered a lamb which he is not too as satisfied. Indeed the portion is very big with rice, and 4 lamb but the lamb itself is very dry and the rice taste not very well. Overall, the food is very nice however the service could be way better.

Went for dinner on my first night in Budapest. Great place, the most amazing food with good vegetarian options, very friendly staff and such an amazing vibe for the festive season. Highly recommend the cream of garlic soup and the sweet potato main dish.
