Amazing building, newly refurbished and the effort that went into it really shows! The acoustics is simply great, the seats are very comfortable and the air conditioning provides an optimal temperature. I'm shocked that I've seen Wagner's Gotterdammerung which is close to five hours and left the hall feeling refreshed rather than tired. Of course this is reflected in the ticket price, but, seriously this is a competitor in the best halls I've ever been to, so it's understandable. I should mention the staff are an awesome bunch of guys, very helpful and non intrusive, I only got my ticket checked at entry. I would recommend this place for any performance because it gives you the opportunity to take some great pics inside and have the joy of listening to a great sound.

We came last minute and bought the standing ‘seats’ for 1500 each. Decent view and there is a bench to lean against. Opera Building is absolutely beautiful, I believe it has had a recent renovation. We saw Bach, which was expertly presented although the piece was not to my taste. Well worth the visit, and also easy bough to leave early if standing becomes too uncomfortable.

When I came to Budapest two years ago, the Opera was not opened to the public due to renovation. Finally, I took a visit to the magnificent building this time. It deserved a two-year waiting any way. The only minor bug was that the guide in this Opera cannot speak English fluently and was not friendly, either.

(Translated by Google) I expected something different from a renovated castle. I have a lot of digital items, I can read and watch a monitor at home, so it was a shame to spend so much money on a ticket. It was terribly hot and there was no air conditioning in the castle (mobile climate could be). Unfortunately I didn't understand anything about the young man's guide, so after 5 minutes I left it there. So it was unenjoyable.

Now being renovated, even you paid 11 euro, you can’t even see the stage, backstage or the seating area. All you can see is the stairs, the corridors and a few rooms. They have opera performance for 10 minutes to make it up to you for the can’t see anything situation. Compared to our recent visit to the Vienna opera house, the Vienna opera house guided tour is the same price but offered a lot more to see. Visit this opera house when the renovation is completed. It looks amazing we had a peek into the renovating in progress of the inside.

Absolutely stunning place. The interior is elaborate and exceptionally well finished. It was a pleasure to spend an evening in such a beautiful place regardless of your musical preferences. You can have a drink on the terrace overlooking the main street. The staff were helpful, professional and multi-lingual.

Unfortunately I could not get tickets for the opera performance since everything is sold out for the nearest dates. At least I found out that they provide guided tours in a few languages. The ticket price is 9000 forint, you can book it on their website or buy it there. I really enjoyed our tour the duration of which was 1 hour. The guide was friendly and she shared lots of stories about the Opera House establishment and history. And the building itself is majestic inside 😍

Currently under renovation but guided tour are available to groups. Breathing architecture, mostly simulated marble, spectacular interiors. Toilets, gift shop. We were privileged as we had a private performance of the opera singers.

Gorgeous but currently with renovations we could not see the inside. The tours provided were well paced and very informative and included a sample piece with some local talent! I’ll have to come back at the conclusion of the renovations!

I attended the 1 hour Opera tour. It was fabulous and definitely worth the 9,000 huf. The tour is available in multiple languages. The English tour that I took was excellent. The guide was very knowledgeable. The group was small (about 20-25 people) and it was easy to hear her. The history of the Opera House was explained in just enough detail to educate us, without boring us. I tried to buy my ticket online, but wasn't able to complete the transaction. I was able to buy a ticket at the door and join the next tour.

BEAUTIFUL Central Pest's Hungarian State Opera House has been an institution in Budapest since its opening in 1884. Featuring a neo-Renaissance style, the opera house holds more than 1,200 seats and has a reputation for its exceptional acoustics.

Went to a performance of "The Karamazovs", which was a ballet. Now Ballet really isnt our thing, which is why we left at the half time interval, but the real reason for attending was to get a look at the building, which was lovely, whilst having an hour's rest after trudging the streets of Budapest all day! The tickets in the upper balcony were cheaper than a tour of the building. The central chandelier is massive and weighs 3 tons apparently. Dont think id want to be sat directly under it, then again its been there for 135 years without incident thus far!

The Hungarian State Opera House is a neo-Renaissance opera house located in central Budapest, on Andrássy út. Originally known as the Hungarian Royal Opera House, it was designed by Miklós Ybl, a major figure of 19th-century Hungarian architecture.

A wonderful and unique experience, the place is magnificent, the ballet (romeo and juliet) was breath taking, and the crowd was very elegant. I recommend sitting in a booth. Btw the show was sold out a long time ago, but I visited the website every day and refreshed, and found available tickets.

Only entered in the foyer / entrance hall (pleasantly surprised that we were allowed at all). Beautiful interior, elegant, neo-Renaissance - today it is the second largest opera house in Budapest and in Hungary. There is a small cafe inside where they serve lunch as well.

Ah, I see you're quite the connoisseur of the operatic arts, my friend. It's no secret that opinions on opera are divided, some swear by it while others wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole. However, if you happen to be a lover of opera and are planning a trip to Budapest, then I strongly suggest making a stop at their Opera house. I've been there a few times myself, and let me tell you, the grandeur of the building, the acoustics, and the quality of the productions are simply magnificent. If you're considering taking the Opera tour, I'd suggest going the extra mile and snagging a last-minute standing ticket. There's truly nothing like experiencing an Opera performance in that beautiful space. And if you've never given opera a chance before or have found ticket prices to be too steep in other European cities, then Budapest is the perfect opportunity to dip your toes in the water. You can either purchase your tickets in advance or try your luck an hour before the show, checking for any remaining or returned seats. And get this - two standing tickets for just 5 Euros? That's a steal and a half! Not to mention a whole six-seat box to see Carmen for only 75 Euros? Mama mia, that's unheard of! I mean, seriously, why wouldn't this be on any Budapest visitor's top list of attractions?

If you are a traveler who couldn't book a seat, you can go to the ticket office on the right side of the 0th floor at 5 p.m You can reserve opera seats and standing seats on Hungarian National Opera Home Page site. Standing seats are held at 5 p.m. In other words, you can book standing seats at 5 p.m. online and offline at the same time. Standing seats can only hang a hip over a seat. The concert space is half visible, and the orchestra is half visible Five dollars is enough to feel the feeling and emotion of the opera, and you will thank me. You will feel the best luck in your trip to Budapest. That's how cool it is. 한국분들 추천합니다.

The Hungarian State Opera House in Budapest stands as a magnificent testament to the country's rich cultural heritage and architectural prowess. Designed by Miklós Ybl and inaugurated in 1884, this opulent neoclassical masterpiece has been a hub for world-class opera and ballet performances for over a century. Renowned performers and talented ensembles grace the stage, captivating audiences with their skillful renditions and emotive storytelling. In addition to its artistic merits, the Opera House is a treasure trove of historical significance. Opulent and magnificent, beyond words. Our tour guide from the Opera House was outstanding in pointing out details of the Opera House as well as the Royal entrance, waiting area, and WC. The tour was highlighted with a short operatic rendition in the Grand staircase. Not to be missed and Budapest. It is said that the emperor was jealous that the Hungarian opera House was more beautiful than the Austrian opera House.

We did the opera tour, and it was awesome. They take you through several areas and rooms throughout the building and explain their purpose, history, and artwork/decoration. They then lead you to the balcony section, and eventually to the main seating area. Then they finish it all off with a mini performance from some of their artists. It was a great experience, and we highly recommend.

(Translated by Google) Impressive, a real attraction both inside and out. Beautifully renovated castle. When I was there, the entrance was a bit complicated, you could get tickets in all sorts of combinations, you were in the tower and for a permanent and temporary exhibition, and the barcode tickets were swinging back and forth in front of the readers at the vending machines. Then one day he succeeds. . . the tower is not a big attraction, being in the Great Plain and not high, but for whoever wants it, it climbs. That's it. But the interiors are much more exciting, the exhibition is interactive, many things can be touched, and even, sometimes worthwhile, it provides a myriad of information with objects of old life, furnished rooms, inscriptions, lights, lighting. I recommend everyone to visit the castle. A real experience. De a belső terek sokkal izgalmasabbak, a kiállítás interaktív, sok dologhoz szabad hozzányúlni, sőt, néha érdemes is, számtalan információt ad a régi élet tárgyaival, berendezett szobáival, feliratokkal, fényekkel, megvilágításokkal. Javaslom mindenkinek a kastély meglátogatását. Igazi élmény.

(Translated by Google) There is the layer who likes it, there is someone who likes it less. Nice, nice, but I recommend it to those who would rather be here or in a similar place instead of, say, a tour. Readable, information-rich, like a museum. The tower is not worth it, I do not recommend anyone going up there because it is not a big number at all, it is not high, and you can only see the concrete almost everywhere as a view. I liked the environment around the castle more than the interior tied up. Regardless, it is beautiful and demanding, so for those who need this kind of recreation, I highly recommend it to them.

As we visited in January 2019 I couldn't see a show because the building is under renovation. However, there is a guided tour through the building that excludes the main auditorium, because of the renovations. Highly recommend

I have to admit I have never visited an opera outside of Greece. We paid a ticket believing we will get a live performance. The Hungarian State Opera house is a place that's not to be missed when visiting Budapest. The concert hall is filled with plenty of ornamental decorations and intricate designs down to the miniscule details. I stood in awe admiring the craftsmanship that went into the construction of this place. Admittedly, I did not appreciate the opera/musical that I was there for, but that's probably due to my own lacking of sophistication.

We saw Richard Strauss' Ariadne. We bought tickets online and sat at the front of the third floor (top) balconies. Lovely building, great acoustics, great view. But the seats are so small you will have people's knees in your back and your own knees bent out of shape to fit in. The tablet for the translation was a good idea but the cable is far too short. So the performance was great, but it was a few hours of agony trying to be a contortionist to fit in my seat. Get the more expensive seats on the first or second floor balconies. You won't regret it.

Came here for a tour of the opera house. Price was on the high side with English tours being 9000huf, but it was quite a nice tour and the performance at the end makes it worth it for me. Really insightful guide, with a good overview of the history of the opera house. Performance at the end lasted 10 minutes which gives a good taste of the opera to anyone who wants to sample it.

Visiting the Opera House in Budapest was an absolute treat for the senses. From the moment I entered the grand foyer, I was spellbound by the opulent surroundings and the palpable sense of history. The architecture of the Opera House is a masterpiece, with its exquisite details and elegant design. The auditorium, adorned with chandeliers and plush seating, provided the perfect setting for a night of culture and art. The performance I attended was nothing short of breathtaking. The level of talent and artistry on display was truly world-class. The acoustics of the hall added a new dimension to the experience, making the music resonate in a way that was both powerful and moving. The staff were gracious and accommodating, ensuring a seamless and memorable evening. Whether you're an opera aficionado or simply seeking a taste of high culture, the Budapest Opera House is a must-visit destination. It's a cultural gem that promises an unforgettable experience, and I can't recommend it highly enough.

Beautiful Building. The Tour was rushed so the guide kept talking while walking and not waiting for visitors to gather. Obviously not everyone could hear everything. There is a small show at the end of the tour. Wish I had time to see a real concert! We bought tickets in advance. Pricing quite high.

This is a grand opera we visited just for the edifice, and Beatrice was a wonderful guide. Look for a tour online in your preferred language. They sell inexpensive, same-day, "standing" tickets for performances. Unfortunately English versions of the same books in the gift shop are twice as expensive (as those in Hungarian)!

  • 5/5 Patric L. 7 months ago on Google
The Hungarian State Opera is a breathtaking experience for both young and old alike. I have repeatedly attended various performances with my kids to much delight. The building is draw dropping in its art and detail and the performances are spectacular and well performed. I highly recommend it as a fantastic cultural experience. To properly enjoy a performance I highly suggest dressing to the occasional and not showing up in shorts and flip-flops or other casual attire. Performances are dubbed in English and German on little LCD monitors adjacent to the seats, as well as a large screen above the stage.

Absolutely beautiful inside and out, I went for a tour of the opera house. Our guide was very knowledgeable and open to any questions we had. The mini concert at the end was beautiful. The performances held inside the opera house are of a very high standard and are variable. Tickets should definitely be bought in advance as high-demand shows may sell out weeks ahead.

This is definitely a place to visit when you come to Budapest. The rich architecture and history behind the building is very interesting and Greta who showed us around was very knowledgeable and friendly. Although the tour was pretty short, there was enough time to take pictures and ask questions. The unexpected little Opera at the end of the tour was a very welcoming surprise! Important note: it is advisable to purchase a ticket beforehand cuz they sell out pretty quickly. Since the building is full of staircases, taking the tour with a stroller or wheelchair is not possible

  • 5/5 Jamie C. 6 months ago on Google
It’s an absolutely stunning building, a real pleasure just to be in that environment. If you want to book good seats for a performance try and book early. However, 2 hours before Every performance they also release some standing and limited view seats, which are great value, just a few Euro, which gives you a glimpse of the atmosphere. These seats are better for musical performances, but if it’s a Ballet or Opera, where you need to see the stage, then it will be more difficult.

Wow... what a wonderful place! It is definitely worth buying a ticket to visit the opera in Budapest, the cost is 9000HUF including a 1 hour tour with a guide who tells the history of the opera and a 10-minute performance on the end! The concert hall is impressive and very richly decorated! Great impression!

  • 5/5 Lucija B. 4 months ago on Google
Review contains useful advice! ⭐️⭐️ 100% recommend. Tickets were 9000 HUF per person and they have tours available in English, Spanish, French, German, Hungarian (choosing Hungarian makes the tour 5000 HUF I believe) and I think also Italian. The tour guide was amazing. The tour was very engaging, NOT filled with boring facts but rather learning through actually useful information and funny jokes. ⭐️⭐️ At the end of the tour there was a 10 min performance. I recommend trying to grab a seat on the stairs or a view in the middle. We were on the right side and the singing was not heard as well because of the speakers. ⭐️⭐️As I remember, the box with all four seats is around €160 so if you plan on going to opera make sure to bring something glamorous like a tuxedo/dress as to not stand out and look like a local 😂

Beautiful historic place. The opera is beautifully restored and therefore a must visit. At the end of the tour there was a 10 min opera performance which was a great addition. A little more could have been told about the opera house throughout the years (did it serve as something else in the war?). I would recommend this place.
