Although the very top hit around the statue is fenced off, you can still walk to the top and get incredible views of Budapest in lots of directions. It does not take long to walk up and is definitely worth the walk once you get to the top. The trail can be accessed from the west end of the Liberty Bridge. The first section is steps and then after that it is an inclined path. Although on google it says “temporarily closed” don’t be put off, the main bit is open and definitely worth the effort!

This Citadella fortress is definitely worth a visit. The views on a clear sunny day are amazing. Take a walk around the fortress and you will be taken back in time. A sad time unfortunately as the walls of the fortress are pitted with holes from what seems like airplanes flying overhead shooting at people within and or trying to destroy the fortress. I have a lot of respect for this place. I loved my time in Budapest. It's such a beautiful city.

At the moment you will find the monument for freedom under reconstruction. The way up ends in front of the construction fence. Think about before you start. It is a steep path that requires more or less efforts. But you have a beautiful view over the city from the many niches and viewing platforms.

The Citadel is a must see hallmark of Budapest. It has a beautiful view of the city from various sides. It is usually very crowded but there is plenty of space and benches to chill and enjoy the view. However, when I visited today the site was closed and will be for some time due to repair work. You can still climb up but the end point is the top of the stairs, so you cannot reach the area below the statue. Nevertheless still worth the visit.

The view is really nice. There are many different roads and panorama looking points. But it would be really nice to alert people that Citadella is closed for works!!! And at the bottom of the hill. It is really a great delusion when you mount for half an hour and you finish at the metal wire grill. Irresponsible!

Great views on the way up but it's all closed for construction. No signage until you reach the top. Rubbish everywhere, no maintenance. Don't come here thinking you can get to the top.

Currently in repair, will open back around 2023. I'm pretty sure that once repaired and better maintained it will be a really amazing place to visit. Nonetheless it currently offers one of the best view of the city, and a good view of Buda's castle and the fisherman's bastion, so even if it's in repair, it can be worth the small hike.

When we visited it was closed for public. But still statues are visible from outside the main Enterance. It is situated at the top of a hill where you have to walk only.

Can only give it 3 stars as it was my everest! What a climb, and then the top was closed!!! No signage, some daredevils took to walking around the top, very dangerous. Do not attempt if not fit, it's horrible climb but the views are great

Must visit place in Budapest. You get a bird's eye view of the city from here. Very good selfie spot. Best time to visit is at sunset, you can watch the sun go down and if you wait for a few more minutes to see the city light up.

Old fort on the top of the Gellért hill. It's is a nice walk up from the bottom of the hill. You have different paths up and on each one, you may encounter nice spots to hang out and relax. Sometimes it could seem a little bit empty and I'm not sure how totally safe it was. But even with anything in the way, the view from up the hill of Budapest city and the Danube River is gorgeous. You can walk from there and to the Buda Castle and Central Market. The view is amazing during the day and the night, so maybe plan a nice sunset on the Citadella area and enjoy the view.

Amazing views and if you are lucky enough to visit Buda in spring you will find a blooming almond tree to take awesome pics. Dont bother go all the way to the top as Statue and the square are closed and you can't even see the view.

Citadella is a small trekking place , after crossing the bridge which is located in the old city called buda , it took one hr to climb the small mountain , they have steps and also road to climb , awesome climate in the morning and very cool place , it was under renovation when I visited , at the top of the climbing you can see 360 deg view of the city , fantastic location. You can see old city and new city as well . Must visit place , take less luggage when you are climbing . At the top they are statues and resting places . Don’t recommend to climb with children

Gorgeous views!! Unfortunately the top was closed when I was there for construction, but you can still all of Budapest from different parts. It was pretty busy so there is a good chance you won’t find a place to just sit and relax. Definitely recommend.

The monument itself was shut due to refurbishment, but we did manage to visit the surroundings and view the city from atop the hill. The views are stunning, to say the least. The photos do not do justice to what a human eye can see.

Amazing tourist attraction, you need to climb a lot of stairs to get up there or take the roads around; it’s definitely worth the effort because it offers an amazing view over the entire city. Only bad part is that currently it’s surrounded by wire fences as it is being probably restored.

If you have time a short climb up the Gellert hill following any of the different paths through a very green park feels like a conquest, and your award will be a wonderful view to the city and its sights. Unfortunately, part of the Citadella is still being rebuilt but this is a landmark you can’t miss and the Liberty Statue (a small replica of her colleague in New York) will welcome you !

It's a great place to visit in Budapest, one of the must-visit, I think. This place provides a good view to all direction of the city. The temperature is colder as it is a higher ground. It has 3 statues on top, I think the center (main) statue symbolise fight for freedom. It has many ways up and down, and there are many parks and playground in these ways. The climb up might be tiring but once you reach the top, the view will worth it. A very good place for photo huntings too.

(Translated by Google) Statue of Liberty Hungarian ascending him requires a very very high fitness, but the view at the top is beautiful and overlooking Budapest is worth a visit if your fitness is high and is a landmark of Budapest Description: The Statue of Liberty in Budapest, Hungary, is a statue that was built in 1947 to commemorate the Soviets who liberated Hungary from the Nazi occupation during World War II. Views of Budapest. The statue is made of bronze and is 14 meters long and is raised on a 26 meter high base. It is one of six holders with both hands. When the monument was made, the expulsion of the Germans from Hungary with the help of the Soviets would be considered an editorial work and as such, it was written on the memorial "Monument by the Hungarian Nation of Russian Heroes who liberated it." Over the years, the sense of gratitude of the Soviets turned to anger over their support for the dictatorship in Hungary and their suppression of freedoms in Hungary. In the latter, the Hungarians revolutionized what hadn't succeeded in 1956. After communism collapsed and the democratic transformation took place in 1989, the written speech changed and remained. In memory of all those who sacrificed their lives for the independence, freedom and success of Hungary. It's a hell of a walk especially if you're feet are tired but the views from the top are absolutely worth it. I walked from the Gellert Bath but there is a road on the other side used mainly by your buses and taxis. But you can pretty much see the entire city(Pest Side mostly) and the you get a great view of the Buda Castle. Plus i went there at night

Gorgeous views of the city although we were a bit disappointed when we found out there was nothing to do on the top of the hill. The statue is behing a fence and there's no place to get refreshments (we forgot to bring water). But still, the view beats everything.

Closed for renovation until 2023. Only information visible when you climb all the way to the entrance, so a lot of people went there for nothing. Some signs on the way there could save a lot of trouble… very neglected and derelict, hopefully it will look better when they’re done with renovations.

Well if you're looking for a good hike with a great view I'd recommend this. However when I last went the citadel was closed, so check that it's open. There's also a refreshing waterfall at the bottom of the climb that is great to cool off on a hot summers day. The hike is not too bad about 20 mins and the view is stunning. You can see all of Pest!

Although the place is closed, you can definitely climb up the mountain and get astonishing views of the whole city and all around.

Great view! You have to be in good phisical codition to get to it and it's temporarily closed. On the rivier side at some point on the hiking trail there are some questionable people with three card monte business to trick foolish tourists so avoid them at all cost.

You should visit the Citadella above Budapest city. The view from there is nice. I recommend you to visit the Citadella at the sunset time to enjoy the view and the sunset.

An imposing figure on the Budapest skyline, upon the hill of the citadel. Unfortunately it was closed to tourists when we visited and got the best images we could! Well worth a walk up there just for the views themselves! Spectacular views over miles of the city! On the way up through the park, you can visit the church in a cave also! Very steep climb up to the top with plenty of stairs too! Great viewing points, and well worth the effort!

The view from here is amazing, could see most of the city! The trek up the mountain was worth it but VERY tiring especially if you’re not very active, but don’t let that put you off. Sadly it is closed but you could still take pictures through the gates.

Cool hillside fort with great views of the rest of Budapest. Note that it’s a bit of a climb to get to and may not be accessible if you have young children or disabilities.

Citadella has a panoramic view of Budapest. From this point you can see magnificent view of Danube river , Joint wheel, Budapest castle apart from the city view. Although Citadella is partially open due to ongoing construction. One of the must place to visit if you are in Budapest, Hungry. You can have best pictures here.

Unfortunately I didn't get to see it up close. There was a maintenance so it was closed front he public. Everyone tried climbing the wall to get a picture (even though there is an iron fence on the front) but still it's not good for so many tourists to climb so sooo many stairs to see this monument on the top of the hill and then keep them away. Hope it'll be open soon

It’s good but was closed for construction. The view is different from the one offered at The Castle or Fisherman’s Bastion. You can see the stadium, off course the Donau river and a lot more of f the city.

Yes, it is on the map but there is absolutely no information on the spot about what and how to get there by foot because of construction.. But you can see a lot from the small paths. Unfortunately, few people know that. So many people turn back in annoyance. Quite rightly. Very bad organisation organisation. All we need is a few information boards. Very sad.

At the time of our visit under construction and not accessible. Still from the top of the hill some breathtaking views of Budapest and the Danube

It was very fun to climb all the way up there, and during your way, u will see a great view of the city. There are even places for kids to play here, and the monument is so perfect

The views from here are just spectaclar. When we got the top it was all gated off its looks like some restoration work is being done but don't let that put you off its worth it for views. Also lots of steps.

Beautiful statue at the citadella, however getting up there with a wheelchair 🦽 was a nightmare. It’s very very steep and we struggled pushing our daughter up with the wheelchair as you can see from the video. I wish there was a less steep route up even if the route is longer. If I was visiting again, I would get a taxi 🚕 up there if we have a wheelchair or Buggy with us.

The climb to the Citadella is a pleasant walk through the landscaped park and takes about 10-15 minutes. Unfortunately, on our visit, the area around the Citadella was closed for renovations and we were unable to see it. But the wonderful and breathtaking view made up for it.
