Guidance was awesome, the cave is beautiful, I felt a bit claustrophobic when stepping up the ladder but apart from that I enjoyed the tour. Bit expensive for me compared to other caves. I experienced idiotic behavior from both children and adults though. Children easily get bored, I don't really think they truly enjoy caving tours so they get messy, that's one thing. But how would I expect otherwise if parents or adults in general are all the same: Guide says not to touch the wall because it prevents the organisms from growing but after 5 minutes they touch it and not only once. They talk all the freaking time, so one cannot hear what the guide says ... They behave like spoiled kindergarten kids. These things leave a mark on people like me. I'm not spending my hard-earned money to listen to people can't respect the work of the cave crew and give a damn about other visitors.

Cave route had many notable sightseeings- turtle rock, witches’ kitchen, grand hall etc. Pathway is safe and comfortable for everyone, except the stairs in the end of the tour, that were narrow, cold and dangerously slippery. Ticket price was 2500, and 1900 with a student ID. I suppose student pass is normally supposed to be free. Guide was dull and rude. In a group, where majority spoke English, he decided to tell the tour in Hungarian for a singe Hungarian-speaking person. The rest of the group had to listen to the walkie-talkies. When we asked if he could switch the language, so all of the people could be invested, he replied with “you have some problems with that?”. Additionally, it felt as if he was making up new rules on the way through the cave, since he didn’t bother to list them before we entered. I asked him if I could audio-record his tour for the narration in the short movie I was making, he denied, stating that we can record it ourselves somehow. I am convinced, that a person generally not interested in life should be guiding exploration tours.

Great tour in English. Quite cold when you get down low so bring a jacket. Also a big ladder to climb. Really fascinating place though and definitely worth a visit if you're on holiday in Budapest. Cave-tastic.

MUST do. Most unique experience I have had traveling. Book a guided tour where you will have the full spelunking experience not just walking through the caves, and feel safe in the process. There is SO much to the world of caving i never knew or appreciated and this is a wonderful way to learn while having a great, adventurous experience. Great adrenaline rush!! Caution: if you are claustrophobic, this is NOT for you.

Came here because it was free with the Budapest card but turned out great! Doesn't seem particularly touristy with us being the only foreigners or our specific tour but that didn't matter as there was a detailed audio guide available in English. Very much worth the trek out from the centre, only gripe is that our tour was delayed and we waited a while for it to start but otherwise amazing.

40 million years old cave which is just fascinating to watch. You can see historic fossils and different pattern made on cave walls.

The guide spoke only in Hungarian, with a few comments in English here and there. Not an issue, since an very informative audio guide is included. The visit is supposed to take around an hour, but ended up taking one hour and a half due to having lots of kids and elderly people in the group. The cave has some very narrow passages and an extremely steep ladder. It is a very nice guided tour.

A must have experience of you feel a little adventurous. The guide was a real professional with great knowledge of his work. A good way to test of you are claustrophobic which I got to test as I got stuck 50 meters below the surface. The guide of course had a plan and after only a few minutes I was free and now has a story to tell for a lifetime 😁

Such a cool experience to undergo while in Budapest. The tour price is cheap, and free with the Budapest Card. They offer tours in English if there are enough English speakers in the group, so you may have to wait a little bit to go on an English tour. This is no problem though, as the cafe nearby has great hot chocolate and small snacks to keep you fed. Play some foosball while you wait too!

There are almost 200 caves under Buda hill. Out of which these two: Szemlő Mountain Cave and Palvolgyi Cave can be visited under the same ticket. Both the caves can only be visited with tour and guide. The cave gets very cold inside like about 10deg C. And the tour is about 45minute to an hour.

Must-visit cave experience. Friendly humorous, and very talented guides showing you around the cave system. It lies about 80m beneath sea level and is about 25km long, yet the tour only covers 500m it's about 1.5 hours long. Worth the price. It is suitable with kids and the elderly too, yet at some part of the tour you have to climb steep stairs. There's also a little geological museum just next to the ticket office explaining the discoveration of the cave.

We had a great time in the caves. Our guide was really knowledgeable and spoke amazing English. The tour was quite extensive and we saw all different types of rock formations and quite a few bats too! Definitely recommend. We went in winter and there was only us and another couple on the tour so very private.

Myself and my partner took part in the caving adventure 3 days ago. It was thrilling, physically challenging and so much fun. The guide was fantastic, he spoke good English and was so knowledgeable. He made it so much more by engaging with the group. A memory for life of a truly unique experience. I would highly recommend. Great value for 2 and a half hours.

Cool place to visit; tickets are not too pricy either, especially if you can avail a student discount. The audio guides are helpful because the tour guide leads the tour in Hungarian. The tour takes one hour and requires some steep climbing climbing. It is quite cold inside, with a fairly stable temperature of 11-12C; so best to dress warm.

  • 4/5 Niall Mac C. 2 years ago on Google
This is an easily-accessible cave with a good local bus service and the entry prices are reasonable Our guide was excellent, knowledgeable, enthusiastic and experienced The caverns are good, if not spectacular, but the lighting is good and the tour is well laid-out With 426 steps and 7 metres of ladders, it's a little physically taxing, but not excessively so

  • 4/5 Sidney S. 2 years ago on Google
Interesting cave, suitable for many ages as the cave has been retrofitted to meet the needs of tourists. Since the tour is in Hungarian, there is an audio guide provided for other languages such as English.

  • 3/5 Dana B. 2 years ago on Google
The tour was perfectly fine. So was the road inside the cave. The cave itself is not the prettiest I've ever seen. Heed the website's warning: there's a 30 meter climb on a short of ladder involved. Best avoided for small kids (under 6) sand elderly.

  • 4/5 Joe T. 1 year ago on Google
It's a bit of a trek to get out there, but it's ultimately worth it since tickets are not so expensive. The audio guide isn't very engaging and the actual cave guide didn't speak English. That said, it was still very cool to explore and you go deep into the cave. There was one annoying tourist that ruined the experience a bit as well.

  • 5/5 Lev P. 6 months ago on Google
Amazing unique experience in one of the largest caves in Europe. Dripstone in all kinds of shapes, minerals and fossils, bats hibernating and more. Bring warm clothes. Also check the tour times - only guided tours are available, you cannot just wander there on your own.

The tour guide deserted us, didn’t tell us she was walking on after she told about 10 out of the 20 of us to go stay in a deep hallway where we couldn’t see or hear her. Eventually the lights turned off and it was scary. It was also extremely difficult and narrow stairs to climb about 4 flights of stairs going straight UP! Some stairs didn’t have handrails too. They tell you it’s a 16min tour, no ma’am it’s over an hour long and you’re 91 feet/28 meters underground. It’s terrifying.

Great place you should not miss in Budapest! Easy accessable by public transport. There is also coffee place in front in case you need to wait a bit or you just want to sit and enjoy ☕🍷

  • 3/5 Sam P (. 4 months ago on Google
Worth the visit, only did the basic tour due to time constraints but it was affordable pricing. Audio guide for foreign visitors however the tour guide did point out and try to explain to us specific points of interest in the cave. Spotted around 3 bats along the route, the basic tour is just a small part of the cave system. If you're looking to be abit more adventurous try a tour other than the basic. If you don't like cramped spaces or ladder climbing this may not be the place for you as there is some of this involved. I recommend catching a Bolt to reach there if you're far off in the main city or in Buda, it's not costly. Tram will only take you so far and the bus times is a little longer.

Cave complex very beautiful. Will be chilly down there so make sure to bring some warm clothings. Guidance was good and well worth the money as the tour is around one hour long.

Wonderful experience, the guide speaks hungarian but with the audiguide we understood the same things, we hope. The duration is 1 hour and he has slope climbs. Temperature is 11°C so my advice is to wear a sweatshirt at least. Price is 3000 HUF, around 7,5€.

Amazing guided cave tour for regular people with no professional background. It's a bit far from the central area, but has good public transport connection, so it's worth the visit. The cave is like a labirinth with interesting rock formations, narrow walls, walkable path, concrete stairs, and there's also a place where you have to climb up a steep metal ladder which was really exciting. Our tour guide told us about the formation of the cave, how it was discovered and also gave us instructions on how to stay safe. We have seen a few bats! Don't forget to bring a jaket, it's a bit cold inside the cave. The waiting area next to the cave is also really nice with benches, tables, a bar, playground for kids and also clean toilets.

Amazing place, staff were excellent, both at the ticket area and the cave. Guide was very informative and made the visit memorable. A different type of experience for people on a city break, but well worth the entry fee. It's a pity the cafe was not open, but this did not detract from our visit. Thank you

Fantastic cave system, with impressive scenery. We had a really helpful guide who gave us lots of insights, we also got to see some 40 million year old fossils. Make sure to be there at quarter last the hour for the tour.

  • 4/5 Alexander Z. 1 year ago on Google
Nice experience. The cave itself is spectacular and all my family liked it! The tour is 1 hour and it fits well only for local people. Guide speaks in Hungarian and you're given audio guide. The thing is that alive guide tells much more that audio one we had to always wait for the whole group. As for me, this is a point to improve. Also, take into account that in our case the tour was about 1.5 hours because guide was late a bit and than everything was a bit slow. If you plan something after the cave, take this into consideration, there is a chance tour will take longer than 1 hour.

  • 4/5 Teodora C. 11 months ago on Google
Nice cave, a little bit cold inside, audio-guide in english - would be helpfull guided tours in english for tourists, otherwise just hungarian. Guided tours start at x.15, so need to wait a bit. There is also a cafe nearby

Tour to the cave operated batchwise and the guide was too cool and she narrates every detail about cave's history, resources. The Budapest has too many where few of them are available to visit and few caves offer to do caving. 1. Best time to to visit in Summer. 2. Includes in Budapest card.

  • 5/5 Douglas F. 1 year ago on Google
Beautiful caves, the audio guide provided is really helpful. Temperature down there is like 10 Celsius constant, which is great if you are there in warmer months and need some rest from the sun. Air quality there is amazing, you can notice the difference as soon as you enter. Our guide was really nice. It's a most in Budapest, a different experience.

Was here Friday. The man giving the tour was amazing. I had an audio-guide, but every time we were at a next number, he said where we were and then started talking in his own language. That way it was pleasant to follow along with the group and the things he highlighted. When asked a question, he had the answers ready! Such a pleasant experience.
