There is a story about this fountain that I will tell you. In ancient times, there was a king who went to the forest to hunt. Suddenly he saw a very beautiful deer that wanted to hunt it, but the deer turned into a beautiful girl by the spring. It happened that the king fell in love with her and did not kill her and married her!i love fairy tales!!

According to the Legends, King Matthias went to the forest dressed as a huntsman, he met a young girl and fell in love. The King did not reveal his identity. He invited the girl to the palace. As the girl, named Ilonka, arrived to Buda, she realized that his sweetheart is the King himself. The young girl thought that it is a hopeless love and she died in grief.

Nice place, you should visit this astonishing fountain. The Fountain of King Matthias is a monumental fountain group in the western forecourt of Buda castle in Budapest. Alajos Strobl’s Neo-Baroque masterpiece is one of the most frequently photographed landmark in Budapest, the Hungarian capital. It is also called sometime the ’Trevi Fountain of Budapest’.

(Translated by Google) A beautiful fountain in the courtyard of the Royal Palace. A multi-figure bronze composition adorns the southern wall of the main part of the royal palace. The fountain was built at the beginning of the 20th century, in 1904. Upstairs is a sculpture of King Matthias, one of the most beloved kings in Hungary, who has done a lot for the country.

Also dubbed as “Trevi Fountain of Budapest” the Mathais fountain s a famous fountain in the courtyard of the royal palace in Buda Castle. It depicts a hunting scene where in King Matthias standing on a dead stag with a cross bow after a successful hunting expedition. There are various statues on the fountain of which the one at the King Mathias’s left side carries a significance. It is the statue of Ilonka. Legend has it she died of a heart break (she fell in love with the king when he was hunting incognito, but broke her heart when she realised he was the King)! She holds a dear gently. Unfortunately the fountain seems to be out of order! There’s no information posted at the site too!

The Matthias Fountain built in the western forecourt of Buda Palace was built in Neo-Baroque style and was inaugurated in 1904. The statuary group depicts a hunting party led by Matthias Corvinus, the king of Hungary. Sometimes is compared with Trevi Fountain in Rome.

MATTHIAS FOUNTAIN The impressive fountain adorns the western courtyard of the palace, known as the Hunyadi Court. It depicts a scene of hunters led by King Matthias Corvinus, accompanied by hounds, a slain deer, Martius Galeotti with a hawk, and Ilonka from the Hungarian fairy tale "Lovely Ilonka" with a doe. These figures are positioned amidst fallen rocks with water cascading into a basin. The depiction of the deceased deer was modeled after a majestic stag that fell to poachers in 1896 within a forest owned by Stróbl, the sculptor of the fountain. The sculpture, which suffered damage during the war, has since been meticulously restored. Today, it is likely the most photographed feature within the palace.

Fountain of King Matthias - must-see corner of the Buda castle. It depicts Matthias Corvinus, King of Hungary and Croatia from 1458 to 1490, and his hunting party. With his patronage Hungary became the first European country which adopted the Renaissance from Italy.

Story : the first king of Hungary stands with his deer. You can see to the right hand side the partner of the king grieving for the deer. Several hounds and a man blowing a horn are present showing the effort of the hunt. Other note: meant to be similar to the Trevi fountain and fountains four waterfalls (can you spot them all). Located in the castle grounds.

The Matthias Fountain is a monumental group of fountains in the western vestibule of Buda Castle. Alajos Stróbl's neo-baroque masterpiece is one of the most photographed sights in the Hungarian capital, Budapest. After the renovation in 2010, it shined in full glory and is truly admirable. It has an incredible amount of beautiful details.

(Translated by Google) Wonderful. It's relatively clogged. The Castle is a special, beautiful complex of buildings, part of the world heritage. Compared to this, its attendance is extremely low. The virus situation certainly contributes a lot to this, but on a beautiful late summer afternoon I was expecting more than that. ☹️ It was really nicely fixed for huge sums. The fountain itself is a masterpiece in an amazing setting. (Original) Csodálatos. Viszonylag el van dugva. A Vár egy különleges, gyönyörű épületegyüttes, a világörökség része. Ehhez képest rendkívül gyér a látogatottsága.

Matthias Fountain is one of the most beautiful sculptures and fountains in Budapest. The Fountain is in the Buda Castle on the Hunyadi Court, featuring King Matthias in a royal hunting scene with a hidden love story. The story of Matthias Fountain, this amazingly ornate, beautifully crafted sculpture, is a sad, poignant love story, symbolising the human heart’s, never ending hunting story for happiness. According to the legend, King Matthias Hunyadi, the fairest king of Hungary, went hunting in disguise. He was often disguised to see the true affairs of the Hungarian Kingdom. During the hunting, he met a pretty peasant girl called Beautiful Little Helen (Szep Ilonka in Hungarian). They fell in love at first sight, but when she found out that he was the king of Hungary, she realised that their love could never come complete, and consummated in a marriage, so she died from a broken heart. We were delighted with the beauty of the characters and the design of the whole fountain that is telling an interesting story. Wonderfully.

It's amazing how certain places can capture our hearts and become our favorite spots, each time I visit Hungary, I always love seeing the Fountain of King Matthias. It’s truly special, the talent and beauty in its creation is awe-inspiring, and it's even more incredible that it represents King Matthias and the history and culture of Hungary. It's wonderful when a place can evoke such a strong connection and appreciation.

The Fountain of King Matthias is a charming spot that adds a touch of magic to Budapest. Tucked away near Buda Castle, it's a delightful sight with its graceful design and calming waters. The statue of King Matthias and the aquatic surroundings create a serene atmosphere, making it a nice place to take a break and soak in the surroundings. Whether you're a local or a visitor, it's worth a visit to appreciate the beauty and tranquility of this fountain. A simple yet lovely spot to enjoy a moment of peace in the heart of the city.
