I lived 17 years in Budapest and travelled around the world. Kívánság is still my favorite restaurant! The owner, the waiter and the chef together with local customers are providing you a priceless atmosphere, the food is real homemade Hungarian what you hardly found in the city, despite your own grandma's kitchen. The prices are low, portions are big and delicious, you can ask take away too. Every second day, they have new menu. Don't miss to try Máglyarakás! I am living in Japan now and miss it so much..

Fantastic eatery that has probably not changed for 50 years and is all the better for it. Very small so only has room for about five tables,it’s like being in your nans front room and is very much like some of the milk bars you get in other ex- communist countries but is very cheap and the portions large. No hassle from the staff they just let you get on with it. £15 for the two of us with a coke each including tip. Only open at lunchtime and though not sure I think it’s cash only. Much recommended.

Really great Hungarian food. Very old school. It's the kind of place that probably won't exist in central Budapest in 10 years. Pretty busy from 12-1 most days. Menu changes Monday, Wednesday and Friday. No alcohol fwiw. Menu permanently has chicken bone broth with noodles, and bean soup with smoked meat. There is always a Főzelékek (you can have it with meat for extra money) and usually another soup of the day. There is usually 2 main-course specials, a couple of other stew type dishes, and then a selection of fried meats with various garnishes (Mátrai Borzaska and Gypsy Roast being my favourites). There are pictures in the menu of all the standard items, though I don't think all of the pictured items are on the current menu. There is one dessert of the day also. You can buy pickle plates, and there are a small amount of soft drinks available.

Reluctant to share details of this place lest it lose it's local charm. However it is amazingly good.

The restaurant serve a very local foods. Big portion and delicious. We hardly communicate with the owner but he did try his best to help us on ordering. The price is the cheapest among all the restaurants we had visited in the Budapest and I can say it’s worth to come!

Really nice local place - the decor is super dated, but it made me feel like visiting my grandparents place so it was actually really cute. The food was all homemade, very tasty and incredibly cheap.

An incredible place to get your pork on, from grilled to fried to stuffed to Transylvanian, with hand-cut greasy fries and cabbage. Nothing fancy, definitely not overly sterile and I love it. Don't expect spoken English service, but the menus have English descriptions and there are photos of the main dishes. The only thing that could improve this place for me is if they had cold beer. No alcohol here to go with the amazing, old school food and ambiance.

Eveything was great, the food is the best it feels you eat a hungarian grandma's food, we brought like 7 meals, the price is also very cheap and the waitress was a lovely woman that kept reassuring everything was okay, would definitely come back, if you want to taste real hungarian food you shouldn't miss it
