Raoul Wallenberg was a Swedish diplomat, and humanitarian. He is remembered for saving tens of thousands of Jews in Nazi Occupied Hungary during the Holocaust from German Nazis and Hungarian Fascists during the later stages of World War II. While serving as Sweden's special envoy in Budapest between July and December 1944, Wallenberg issued protective passports and sheltered Jews in buildings designated as Swedish territory. During the siege of Budapest by the Red Army Wallenberg was detained and imprisoned by the KGB. He was later reported to have died on in 1947 in Moscow prison. The statue located in King Saint Steven park and was created by Pal Patzay.

The Raoul Wallenberg monument is located in the northern wing of the Szent István park. The struggle of the beautifully crafted naked male figure with the snake has several meanings.

You become a little proud as a Swede and at the same time a little saddened that we have to continue to fight against anti-Semitism even in our time.

In 1944, the Swedish diplomat saved thousands and tens of thousands of Jews from the clutches of the Nazis and the Nazis. I often walk past the statue in the park. The Swedish diplomat sacrificed his life for his rescue operations, as he was kidnapped by the Russians and died in their prison. A few days ago, the 110th anniversary of the birth of the heroic diplomat was commemorated at the memorial.

The memorial was created by architects Pál Pátzay, Sándor Györfi, István Marosits and László Rajk. It was first erected in March 1949, but this was taken on the night of April 8, 1949. It was inaugurated for the second time on April 18, 1999. The monument is an allegory of good triumphing over evil.

The monument (a creation of Pál Pátzay) was originally built in 1948. However, in the hours before the opening ceremony planned for April 9, 1949, it was knocked down and transported from Szent István Park in Budapest. The monument was like its inspiration, the young Swede - it disappeared. The statue was erected in 1953 in an essentially hidden place, in front of the pharmaceutical factory in Debrecen, as a decorative statue, as a symbol of the fight against diseases. The monument became a symbol of the pharmaceutical company. At the initiative of the Wallenberg Sculpture Committee, established in 1998, a copy of the statue was erected in Szent István Park in 1999. On the front side of the pedestal there is a relief portrait of Raoul Wallenberg, on the back side you can read a short description.

(Translated by Google) From 1944 to 1945 he headed the Swedish Royal Embassy. He did a very brave and dedicated job. He helped a lot of people. (Original) 1944 - 1945 - ben vezette a svéd királyi követséget. Nagyon bátor és elhivatott munkát végzett. Rengeteg emberen segített.

This monument has a worthy place in the wonderfully maintained Szent István park. It was a good feeling to rest under the trees during our walk along the Danube. ❤️
