May 2023 I've updated this review as returned to take this chairlift again this year. The main thing to say is that the return cost has almost doubled to 3000 HuF, everything else as before. I can understand the price increase as they probably couldn't cover their costs at 1600 HuF. June 2022 Amazing ride, I would recommend everyone to take the Chairlift even if you're fit enough to walk it. At 1600 HUF for a return ticket, I think it's the cheapest Chairlift I've ever used, and you get a Full 14 minute journey each way. It was so quiet thus morning, just the creak of the cables and the sound of birdsong as I ascended. I had gone in the morning to visit Elizabeth Lookout, but in the afternoon I did a second trip just to enjoy another 28 minute ride there and back. Only thing I'd say is I was there at opening time 10.00am, and with only two ticket machines and a queue of people, it took a while to clear. I think you're better off coming at 10.30 and the queues will have gone. Quite amazing to see how the Chairlift route cuts through several people's gardens, and they've had to cut trees/hedges so it doesn't interfer with the journey.

A unique experience which should not be missed! I suggest walking up the hill, approx 1 hour, markings all the way up, for then to catch the chairlift down. Well worth it, an absolute must for all visiting Budapest. Its very easy catching the bus to the start of the hike, Google Maps will tell you which one to take. Tip; Download the Budapest Go app to buy tickets for transport in Budapest.

Lovely view and there is a lot of possibilities to walk on different trails on top of the mountain with nice asphalt roads. There is a viewpoint from a tower at the top, about 15 minutes when you get off the Chairlift. And the view and nature is fantastic.

A fun afternoon out, with a beautiful scenic view from the top. The ride was very pleasant. Definitely a good experience for all ages. At the end, smile for the camera to get a photo to remember the trip. There are a few food choices at both ends and some picnic tables available.

It was very much closed and looked like it had been for sometime despite the website saying open. A long bus ride and walk for nothing. Very disappointed

A real hidden gem of a spot in Budapest. The ticket costs 3000HUF. Takes around 15 minutes up and again down. The views going down particularly are fantastic. At the top there are great viewpoint opportunities and nearby there is the Elizabeth Tower for even better views. The children's railway is also relatively near Several cafes at the top and lots of rest areas. You can get bus 291 to the last stop. It leaves from Nyugati Station.

If you attended a school in Eastern Europe the whole experience of this place will make you nostalgic of school trips. There is a cafe on each end of the chairlift. It serves an assortment of fast foods (that the rich kids would buy, and if you're friends with them maybe you could get a fry!), and—for those with normal (low) levels of pocket money—a selection of snacks from chocolate bars to crisps to leave your hands greasy. And with those greasy hands you'd put the last change into a machine to convert it into a commemorative coin. As a cherry on top there was a small metal cart in the front with an old dry gentleman selling candy floss in 7 colours (I think I'd struggle to call these flavours). The chairlift operates well and quickly, there seem to be no queues even at busy times (spring weekend)—there are regular ticket machines to buy the tickets and you can pay by card. There are toilets on both ends of the trip. At the top the paths are well marked, so if you want to go explore the park and hill there are many options. And, if you want to walk back down and do it all over again, you can too.

A rather cool way to see the panorama of the whole Budapest! The chairlift is safe, so no need to be scared- it's hard to fall down from there. After going up I recommend to visit the Erszebet lookout tower and children railway. The air up there is considerably clearer, so it's really nice to go hiking there! And a small tip- there are a lot of mini-cards with different discounts on both upper and lower station- take some, that way you can always get some % off on souvenirs or other fun experiences around the city!

(Translated by Google) I really liked it uphill, but unfortunately on Sunday at 15:30 it was no longer possible to go downhill so I had to walk which would not have been a problem, but the road is ONLY for trained tours. If you left your car at the bottom of the air, make sure you even get back. Anyway, I don't understand why you can only go down until 15:30 ... #BKV

Chair lift attendant was grumpy, rude and didn't let me ride down , last people were not far in front. Place looks abandoned, entrance makes place look as if its closed. Ticket prices are weird and nobody was there to help. Machines do have English but weird. I'd only used to see lookout . Walk up the hill to the lift was nicer.

I enjoy this ride every time I visit Budapest! I even engaged my now wife during one such ride! This time, we came with our 4 yo boy - he loved it! The ride does not bring you all the way to the top, you have a steep part to walk more for about 7 minutes. There is more than one café up there. From the top, you can enjoy great panoramic view of all the Budapest and surrounding area. Totally recomend this hidden gem.

It is a fun ride and the view is lovely but they don't provide you proper instructions before you board the chairlift which is something you need to do quite fast. The result for me was a twisted ankle and a torn shoe. Definitely worth trying. Definitely skip if you have a fear of heights

It was okay, the view was good while coming back from the top. But while going up, there is nothing special. And it's pretty low as well from the ground. Ticket is expensive tho.

The chairlift is great. Very nice views! Totally worth the price. Only a small hike away from one of the best lookouts in Budapest.

Brilliant fun going either up or down with great views throughout. Can seem a bit intimidating at first, but actually quite safe and peaceful. Just don't drop anything!

  • 5/5 Lucie V. 2 years ago on Google
I recommend this to everyone who loves nice views but is too lazy to actually walk up a hill, the view from Jánoshegy is gorgeous. As for the chairlift, it's a cool experience and don't worry about the language barrier while buying tickets, there are ticket machines in several languages. Also, the tickets are really cheap.

Absolutely fantastic experience at Sessellift Zugliget in Budapest! The breathtaking views and smooth ride made for an unforgettable outing. I highly recommend this attraction, especially on a beautiful day when the weather is in your favor. Don't miss the chance to take in the stunning scenery from up high – it's a must-do in Budapest! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

When you enter the bottom station, it loons a bit outdated, but this a fun attraction to do when in Budapest! It takes you away from the busy downtown and transports you up to a stunning view over Budapest and the surrounding area. Definitely hike a bit further to the Elizabeth Tower to take in the amazing panorama of the hill.

Very nice trip coming down from the hills (we took the Gyermekvasut up there). Such a calm and relaxing way to travel down over the rolling hills, treetops and even through someone’s backyard! Highly recommended if looking for a different kind of urban transport experience.

  • 5/5 Paul A. 10 months ago on Google
I’m not a fan of heights but this was great! Not sure why more people don’t do it. Use google maps and it will tell you what bus and tram to get, which is fun for itself. Add in a walk back from the chair lifts through a Budapest leafy suburb for a 20 slice of real life. The ride was cheap but it was one of the best things I’ve done here. We had a picnic at the top of the viewing platform, well a level down front the top and brought bottle of wine too. Excellent day and best memories 10/10

Quirky attraction in Budapest, it leads up to the Elisabeth viewpoint, the highest belvedere in the city. You could go there with the Children's Railway, and descend with the chairlift, as the view is phenomenal during the descent

Chairlift to the top of the Mountain then q 5-10 walk up hill to the lockout was the 3000ft worth each person. There shops up and down. Make sure to bring water. There a machine that takes photos of you on the way down and up. Amazing viewer. 291 bus goes to the swing fra the city.

One of my favourite places in the city. I enjoy the peaceful ride. There is no frills, it is just a chairlift where in places you can nearly touch the trees with your feet or hands and even see into some people's massive gardens. For me it's a must every time I visit. You now get your picture taken before your ride ends at each end and can buy it as a photo or fridge magnet. Great memento!
