Unfortunately I made the mistake of not reading reviews before I entered and completely missed out on the basement section. The staff are not very good at communicating, I received a paper in English on which several items in the church were explained but that was about it Price for entrance is a bit steep at 2000HUF considering that many many churches in Vienna or Krakow are free and are much more of a rewarding experience. To be honest on the inside it feels rather austere. The view from the tower isn't that exciting either Worst thing was the national flag of Hungary in full display both at the entrance and in front of the altar, maybe someone should tell these guys that Christ died for the whole world not just for the Magyars

This place was built on the site of a roman fortress; you can see the ruins of this through the floor window in the Nave. The Church itself has lots of interesting features, one of the highlights is the 14th century fresco of the Madonna exhibited in the ambulatory and only discovered a few years ago. There are a number of ornate altars along the Aisles. The Crypt contains a Chapel and you can see more of the Roman remains here. A very good leaflet, available in English, provides a great guide to the key features of this Church. The Tower is also included in the ticket price and accessible by lift or stairs. But it's not that high and doesn't really provide panoramic views of the city. However you get a good view of the roof timbers from the gallery. So don't come for the Tower, come for the Crypt and the Church interior.

If you are looking for a Roman Catholic Church at the center of Budapest, the capital city of Hungary, this is the place you are looking for, Our Lady of the Assumption Church! This church was built for centuries, holding the past and the present of the Catholicism here in Hungary. This place is holy and quiet, which is the best place to spend time for praying. There are also special and antique holy important documents and objects found downstairs, so consider to pay a visit there. You will be amazed the inside-beauty of this church! 😊 Bring your family and be close to the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ. Consider to park your car during non-peak hours. The parking spots beside the church is limited, there are times that we are parking our car 100m away from the church. And also, if you are commuting, these transportations are stopping nearby: Tram 2, Buses 7, 8E, 112, Metro 3 - Ferenc Deák then walk 300m, and Metro 4 - Astoria then walk 650.

Visited the lower church (old church with museum) and observation towers of the Budapest Inner-City Mother Church of Our Lady of the Assumption in early March 2023. Many fascinating artifacts in the lower church. Decent views of the Elisabeth Bridge, Danube river, Liberty Statue, St. Gerard Sagredo Statue and Buda Castle from the south and Ferenc Liszt observation towers.

The oldest building in Budapest, Inner City of Parish Church is a wonderful, awesome and beautiful church, standing mightily next to the Elisabeth Bridge. It’s an iconic building which carried through the generations, transforming into various architectural styles from Romanasque to Gothic to Baroque to Neo classical including becoming a Mosque during Turkish invasion. You will be captivated with an awe inspiring Altar, ecclesiastical garments, beautifully carved Pulpit, gorgeous interiors and the grand piano sounding majestically. Do take a minute to head down to vault area where you can find the grotto with blessed sacrament exposed and ancient ruins(you experience pin drop silence as people sit and prayer in silence). I never seen or heard any church open for 24 hours a day, to my surprise this church seems open 24 by 7!

Afters being closed for years we finally managed to visit this church. The church has been restored very nicely - hence I think paying the 1000ft entry fee is acceptable. The church itself isn’t massively ornate, but it’s historically interesting. The chapel underneath the church is worth a quick visit as well though it does feel a bit like a conference room. If youre in the area - it’s worth stopping by and having a look inside. It’s worth noting that the church also has a preserved mihrab prayer niche from dating back to the ottoman occupation of Hungary when the church was converted into a mosque.

Beautiful church and Community! I attended English mass on 6pm Sunday. It was pretty good amount of people. They have a choir, and sing very nice. Priest, very humble and direct in his homily. The church has many reliquias. Very close to the port.

Church turned tourist trap. It is shameful to require an entry fee. Visitor's are usually more than happy to provide a voluntary offering but it should not be demanded. Was quite happy to go down the road to Budapest's Inner-City Church of Saint Michael and provide an offering while admiring there.

Inner City Parrish Church in Pest, but officially, it is the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary. First church was built here in 1046. When Ottomans conquered Buda in 1541, church was transformed into mosque and became church again only after the liberation in 1686. Church was reconstructed and got present-day appearance after the fire of 1723. Budapest, 🇭🇺 Hungary 🇭🇺. November 11, 2021. It seems on the first day of the New Year, I have found the tomb of Paul Kray of Krayova and Topolya (1735-1804) famous General of Holy Roman Empire! He took part in the War of Bavarian Succession in 1778, War against Ottomans of 1787-1791, and Wars of First and Second Coalitions in 1792-1797 and in 1799-1802 against French scum and filth who beheaded their King and Queen. It is situated in the Inner City Parrish Church in Pest, but officially, it is the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Lipotvaros, Budapest, 🇭🇺 Hungary 🇭🇺. January 1, 2022.

Oldest and yet well maintained Church. Next to a beautiful park and beautifully lighted bridge. Whole area around this church is family and kids friendly. Apart from appreciating the beauty of Church, there are quiet sites and sceneries that a tourist would appreciate!

This is indeed the mother Church of Budapest and one of the most historic and beautiful buildings in Hungary. destroyed and rebuilt several times, converted into a Mosque, regained as a Catholic Church, it still preserves a significant part of its incredibly artistic roof

They offer English Mass at 6PM on Sundays. The mass is so much more reverent than the English Mass at the Basilica. I would really recommend if you want to avoid the chaos from the English Mass at the Basilica.

The church was very quiet this Sunday afternoon. It was really beautiful. There was a wedding inside

Tämä paikka rakennettiin roomalaisen linnoituksen paikalle; voit nähdä tämän rauniot naven lattiaikkunan läpi. Itse kirkossa on paljon mielenkiintoisia piirteitä, yksi kohokohdista on 1300-luvulta peräisin oleva Madonnan fresko, joka on esillä ambulatoriossa ja löydetty vasta muutama vuosi sitten. Käytävien varrella on useita koristeellisia alttareita.

Incredible church, very well preserved. Cheap entrance fee. Church is located in the central position, next to the main walking street and faces Danube. The view tower and the crypts are part of the same ticket and are very enjoyable. Church history spans from the ancient rome to modern times, with old frescs and music composed in the presbitery By Liszt. Highly recommend, very valuable for the tourists

Sovereing church at the begining of Pest. Splendorous from the entrance till the altar. Each side chapel has magnificent altarpieces that creat an overall ecletic atmosphere. Opposite to other churches of the city with a more mysterious tone, this one is bathed with a warm light and gives a redeemed religious feeling.

Great place to attend mass at 5:00 PM weekdays. Especially if you are on river cruise. Prayer, praise, and thanksgiving for all God's blessings.

Most ancient church in the city; at the entrance we were welcomed by a very friendly person who gave us the basic informations about it. Very interesting the basement as well.

Taken here as part of a Viking River Cruise on shore excursion. This is nice enough but unless churches are your thing its just another church (and we have been taken to several, maybe too many) over the duration of our cruise. If you like churches then it's probably worth another star, as there are roman ruins in the catacombs and you can also visit the front towers.

Beautiful church . Visited while on Viking River tour of city, able to walk up to the top , narrow stairs but worth it for the view . There is clear plexiglass(?) Over part of the floor where one can see another area underneath the church . One can walk to other interesting areas of Budapest from this church. We walked to the Zapatos on the sidewalk memorial, shopping and restaurants, interesting lines ingraved on the sidewalks that are indicative of the Danube River .

It costs me to leave 1 star to a church but this is the true reflection of the experience I had there. I was walking-by and decided to stop for a short prayer and meditation as I often do in all religious temples. Once I pushed the door, I was faced by a sign "Tourists Stop". No further elaboration was available. As a foreigner, being technically a tourist, I felt a bit nervous but I decided to walk past. As I was going to sit in a bench, as guy came to me and said "tourist stop". That's all the English he could. I had to camera in hand, a bag or anything that would have suggested that I am there for anything else than praying. I then walked to a little cubicle where a couple of people were praying. It stayed there a few minutes in meditation then left. As the KJV Bible puts it nicely: "Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet". I don't recommend this church as it's not open to anyone outside their immediate community. But good news, just 5 min walk from there, there is a another church that welcomes everyone.

A very exciting place. Church on top of the old Roman Fort, with Romanesque and gothic elements, that later became the mosque. Elements of all these fazes are there to admire. On top of this a lift takes the visitors to the tower. Again, an exciting place.
