It's a long way ahead. This temple is on the top of a hill and there's lots of stairs to climb in order to reach the temple. The view from the top is worth climbing all the stairs and the temple is nicely designed with beautiful architecture. Not wheelchair friendly, and not really suitable for old people as well, they might get too tired.

What a gorgeous and well-maintained temple! I hope more people will pay a visit. It’s not far from Penang Botanical Gardens. Get to the top of the stairs to see the pagoda and the view of the city. The prayer hall inside the pagoda was closed on the day we went but the colours were already worth the climb. You will also see some dogs, monkeys and goats.

Great temple architecture. Fantastic overall Penang island city view from hill top. Do not expose foods or water bottle as it will attract monkeys and quite fierce (might come suddenly as a group). Good exercise as well upon reaching temple hill top :)

In all honesty, the reason I give my experience a 3 star review is because I am not satisfied on how the temple management turned a blind eye towards older couple and people with health issues when the temple management did not agree to provide a ride towards an older couple of 70+ years old today. It truly broke my heart when I saw this with my own eyes as I questioned on where has the humanity gone towards those who need the extra hand in order to climb up those steep steps just so that they could pray to the Lord Murugan.

This temple is a must to visit if you are in the island. Beautiful, peaceful and calming environment. Very nice people. I loved the Shivan located before taking the stairs to climb up. It was white before and now they've painted it.

Used to visit this temple every year & back to here in 2022 after two years gap. Feels so divine and peaceful to be here. The second highest temple in Malaysia and have to admit that it's developing rapidly and maintained well.

Good place to visit, but you have to climb 500+ steps and then down...the stairs are good and you will enjoy the way to temple..from a height you can see the gurney side sea view. The main ceremony happens around 5 o'clock, so plan accordingly..and do wear dress that covers you mostly..they wont say anything but its written in instruction there

This is a very famous Hindu temple in Penang. Can be reached by bus no 10 from Jetty/or by taxi. Situated on top of a hill, one can reach the temple by climbing close to 500 steps. Best time to visit the temple is before 10AM or after 6PM to avoid scorching heat.

513 stairs to climb up, should try only in a cloudy weather. Carry water while climbing. Still some construction is going on. Temple is very big and beautiful. View from top is beautiful and scenic. It's a Hindu temple with statue of lord Shiva and Ganesha.

A magnificent and very well maintained temple. Easily accessible from the city centre. A bit of a climb from the entrance to the temple uphill but very enjoyable. A must visit.

Arulmigu Balathandayuthapani Temple is a magnificent spiritual destination. The climb of approximately 530 steps is a symbolic journey, heightened by the temple's very positive vibration energy. The view from the top offers a scenic panorama, capturing the beauty of Gurney city. The temple's environment is both beautiful and calming, fostering a sense of peace. It's impressively clean and well-organized. Visiting in the morning enhanced the experience.one of the important temple celebrates thaipusam. Highly recommended for seekers of serenity and cultural richness 🙏

An absolutely beautiful temple with a steep ascent via a giant staircase but you’re rewarded with beautiful views as well as some local wildlife clambering up and down the electricity poles or in the trees. Sweeping views of the city from the top of the hill

Probably the most beautiful Hindu temple in Malaysia from what I've seen. I have to decrease my star rating as the toliets there are occupied with extremely aggressive dogs which started chasing me and I've been scared as never before!

New Penang Murugan Hindu Temple in Malaysia – The Biggest Muruga Temple Outside India Waterfall Hilltop Hindu Temple at Penang in Malaysia is believed to be the biggest Murugan Temple outside India. The temple is also known as Arulmigu Bala Thandayuthapani Temple or Arulmigu Sri Balathandayuthabani Kovil. The temple was opened to public on June 29, 2012 after Mahakumbhabhishakam ceremony. The temple is located above the old temple which was built in 1850. It was an important temple for Indian workers. The old small temple used to attract 700,000 people during Thaipusam festival. Space crunch and increasing number of devotees led to the construction the new elaborate Murugan Temple. Some facts about the new Arulmigu Bala Thandayuthapani Temple The temple is inspired by the Chola and Pallava temple in Tamil Nadu. The entire temple work was done by artisans from South India. The entire temple sits on a 70,000 sq ft land. Six pillars in the temple represents the six major Muruga Temples in Tamil Nadu - Aru Padai Veedu A highlight of the temple is a seven-storey 21.6m-tall gopuram. The temple has 500 steps from the foothill to the temple. The temple covers an area of 20,000sq ft 8.23 m-tall murti of Shiva welcomes the visitors at the foot of the hill. The ceiling of the temple has 11 floral designs. Ramesh Smile 😊 13/04/2020
