I want to sincerely apologize to the management of Edison in Penang for not having a Sports car or look up to par to stay at your establishment. It has been a while since someone made me feel unwelcome, and not good enough to stay at their establishment. Our Booking had overlapped a timeframe when about 18 guests with their High End Sports cars had also come with what I assume was a magazine/filming crew. The first thing after they had checked in was the Guest Manager came to my room door and knocked non stop till I had opened the door to find out what was the emergency. He asked me to come outside and show me something. So I had after a long drive from Kuala Lumpur put my shoes on, a mask and headed outside thinking something had happened to my car which was parked outside. No, that was not the case he showed me the many Sports cars parked at the entrance and indicated that for my convenience it would be better for me to park in the back (he called it private parking but to me it was more staff parking area.) as he indicated that people would block me as there were a number of them and would irritate me when I was going in and out of the establishment and since I was tired I did not think much of it. Going out for dinner, and when we came back my wife told me to park at entrance as it was late and we didn’t know where the back parking lot was. The guards, the receptionists wouldn’t even let us in. Telling us to go around back. Not knowing where the back was (not from penang) we kept asking what do they mean. Finally we decided to just try based on their vague direction and it took us out back. Which 1) Cannot be opened and closed without someone from the front opening the gate 2) Was indeed where the staff parked. This started to annoy us as there was more then ample space for us to park up front, but if you looked at the entrance there was more then enough space (that night and the following morning and even in afternoon) to park up front. So our car was now locked into the premise unless I walked to the front asked them to open the gate, with ample parking up front (3 spots last I saw in the early morning of 7 am, 9 am all the way to 12 pm). This made me conclude that they thought my car was an eyesore as it wasn’t a Maserati, Ferrari or Lamborghini. I was not even allowed to bring my car up front, and had to wait 10 mins for them to open the back door to let me out. Please add to the fact that there was Bird Feces on the walls, and the cushion in the lobby sitting area were stained and not maintained with the floors dirty in a number of locations. I don’t think I will ever stay at someplace that made me feel inferior. I will not recommend this place to anyone unless they wish to have people look down on them. I also don’t usually request any special service but do treat Everyone with a decorum of respect and not just think that those without sports cars are not even worth being treated like human beings. Amenities : 1) Free Drinks and cheap snacks 24/7 2) spacious bathroom 3) close to alot of interesting things to see and do 4) treats you like a second class citizen if you don't drive a ferarri Here is my suggestion, if you having an event like what was transpiring that would effect guest stay then perhaps 1) book the entire hotel for them 2) offer valet service instead of asking me to park in back then go back and forth to get the gate open so i can come in and out. 3) pre warn the guests that something was occuring and may effect a guests stay.

Surprisingly this is a very nice hotel. A beautiful mansion, very spacious and well decorated room. I love the lounge area that open for 24 hours, spent few hours with my works there. The staff are very nice and friendly, good in recommending good food for us around the areas. They are so kind of preparing a cake for my mom for her birthday. ❤️ This hotel location is very strategic as it surrounds with all the nice foods and cafes, just within walking distance (parking is an issue around the shop houses nearby). I highly recommend this hotel for everyone to have an exclusive experience.

📍Location Great location, right in the UNESCO heritage area, 10-15 min walking to most sights like Armenia street. Plenty of restaurants and convenience stores around. ♿️Accessibility No elevator; small steps on ground level. 🚪Hotel/Room The hotel is a restored colonial style building and has been renovated beautifully. The bed was comfy, AC worked great and all basic amenities were available. Only caveat is that the soundproofing could be improved as we could hear other guests in the hallway and the music/karaoke bar across the street until midnight. On the plus side, if you enjoy being woken by the singing of birds you’ll be alright. 🍽️ Food The breakfast was continental style and offered a small selection only but what was available was very tasty (scrambled eggs, bread, etc.). There was no offering of cheese or meats but overall the selection was satisfying. 🛎️Service The Edison team was absolutely attentive, friendly and helpful. Special shout-out to Albert who gave us specific restaurant recommendations to cater to our late check-in and gave us great tips on the surrounding sights. ⭐️Overall Definitely recommend and would stay again. The hotel is beautiful, the atmosphere is very relaxed and the Edison team was exceptionally helpful.

Pros: - 24hr lounge with childhood tidbits + 100plus - Ivan, who i presume is the guest relations manager was ultra attentive and approachable - Central location - Instagrammable facade Cons: - Arrived at 5pm but they didn't have our booking which we had already paid in full for. Had to wait another 15min for them to scurry about to retrieve our keys. - No one offered to help with our bags. - We were 2 people. They provided us with 1 small set of shampoo/shower gel. - Rooms were basic with no view or mosquito net, as such all windows were constantly closed and room was constantly dark (Room 130) - Glasses provided in room had liquid residue in them. - No internet on our first day there - My duvet and pillow covers had a strong men's aftershave/perfume on them. It would have been completely irresponsible to not change sheets for new guests, especially when Covid19 is still about and cleanliness is key. - No robes or hotel slippers. - They received a group of GoPro milennial employees the next day who treated the entire hotel as their own. Doors slamming at night, crowds blocking main entryways, millennials talking loud outside our room. - Unprofessional receptionists. Zul was exemplary at his job. Eg. Not greeting guests when entering, instead watching YouTube on his computer; Check out was simply "ok thats it". No, thanks for staying with us etc. Overall, this was not 4 star hotel standard. For similar price, my suggestion is to go straight to E&O.

Polite and helpful staff! Highly recommend to have a stay in this place! They have free wine during 6-7pm and unlimited snacks and drinks for customers. Room is very clean and spacious. Quiet environment and lovely place to stay. Definitely will come back here.

The hot shower is not stable. The breakfast was definitely not up to four star standard as it was only scramble eggs and toast with pineapple jam and butter . The breakfast could be done in a much better way given you had branded yourself as a boutique hotel and charged your guest for 300+ for one night stay. Free flow beverage was generous though, and some add nostalgic Malaysian snacks provided round the clock.

A gem! My first time staying here and I’m pleasantly surprised at how nice the place is. Our room is spacious and the amenities are 👍🏻. The hotel staff are super friendly and helpful. We were shown around the hotel and were given a map of Georgetown and recommendations of where to go and where to eat! They always ensure we are well and happy! The location is definitely strategic as it’s walkable to almost all the tourists attractions and best restaurants, bars and cafe in town. My only suggestion to the hotel is to consider providing earplugs in the rooms - in the event the guests wish to use them - since there are construction happening next door and the bar opposite and next to the hotel have live music that goes on until midnight.

10/10 would recommend this place! A group of us stayed here and we loved our experience so much. Clean rooms, beautiful building, free flow of coffee, tea, drinks & snacks, with a lovely team who would cater to all your needs. They also welcomed us with wine & cheese platters ✨ The stay here has definitely made our trip to Penang an extra memorable one!

We loved our 4 night stay at The Edison - every staff member goes above and beyond to ensure your stay is good. The rooms are clean, comfortable and spacious and the property is stunning. Because of the age of the building you can hear the karaoke from the hawker market opposite however the overall experience makes up for it. It’s worth heading over for a beer in the evening to watch the performances. The drinks and snacks in the lounge/kitchen are a lovely touch and we will miss the staff. Would definitely stay again if we’re back in Georgetown.

We stayed there for 4d3n for our anniversary. The hotel staff were super nice and thoughtful. Albert, David and Chris have made sure we were well taken cared of. They were super polite and professional. The surroundings are quiet at night to ensure a good rest. Hotel itself is amazingly photogenic and elegantly fragrant. Room was super comfy. I have chronicle insomnia but I slept like a baby for all 3 nights. Definitely recommend it and thank you all for your hospitality.

Comfortable and classy hotel. Staff are welcoming and accommodating. We enjoyed the use of the pool and lounge too, as well as the wine discovery every evening. Definitely a place that we will return to again during our next stay in Penang!

I was in Penang and planning to do hotel hopping. Came here for a night, went elsewhere and came back here. The room was clean, nice and very comfortable. It has a lounge with free flow of juice, tea and coffee. The staffs are nice and warm. We spent time with Albert, the guest manager who advised us on places to go. All the staffs are nice and that made us come back to this place. Oh, the mattress was so so nice, one of the best ever I ever had. The place deserves a great accolade.

We spent 4 nights at the Edison and booked 4 rooms for our friends and family gathering. All the rooms were spacious and well decorated. But the best part of the hotel are the staff. Albert, Fez, Chloe, Logan and david (Lounge). They were always attentive to our needs and made our stay just that extra special. The lounge was also the feature of the place. It's casual and inviting to guest to chat and to just hang out. The pool although it's small, it's great way to cool down during the heat of the day. I am already planning my next visit again next year. Thank you guys for a wonderful stay.

Definitely worth the price! Pay once, and you get a full tour of the hotel, free access to the lounge 24/7, and most of the tourist attractions are in walking distance. All the staff are very friendly, and our attendant was Adzim, he helped us throughout our stay. He's the best, I would say. The hotel's cleanliness was amazing, the room is spacious and the detailing is superb. A *very* instagrammable hotel, and way better than any 5-star hotel that I've ever been too. 10/10, I love The Edison and would definitely come again!

Stated 4 star, but u can see from the photo.. These are what we paid for a 4 star price.. Tattered bedsheets, pillow covers. Cracked toilet bowl cover. Cracked drinking water cap. Loosed door knob. Loosed wardrobe. Over priced hotel, bad sound insulation, u will hear the all night long karaok from opposite food court up to 11pm to 12pm... Good thing about the hotel is the attitude of the Staff and Manager. They take good care of you. Also the free flow drinks and coffee and the pool...

Our favourite stay in Singapore. A beautiful heritage hotel, that has been beautifully outfitted in the communal spaces and with a lovely cooling, small pool too. Location is perfect for exploring old town. The service was superb, our best in Singapore and Malaysia and all the staff were friendly and helpful but special mention goes to Albert who goes above and beyond to make your time in Penang as good as possible full of excellent local recommendations And things to do and see! The room was a great size. Slightly unusual in that the only windows were in the bathroom but it was all very nicely done. Slightly bare in terms of the decoration, especially when considering how nicely the rest of the hotel is decorated and there's no fridge in the room (though a great communal space with cold drinks and good coffee etc.). The bed was too firm for my taste as it is in lots of Asia and the rooms air conditioning struggled to bring it to a comfortable temperature but those are the only, fairly minor issues and certainly it's a very strong recommendation!

The BEST customer service we have ever had. The staff go above and beyond and each are so charming and have great recommendations. The hotel is beautiful, the room is so comfortable and the pool is so quiet and relaxing. This hotel made out trip!

I made a last-minute booking because I had some accident during the night before in another hotel and needed to evacuate. I made the decision fairly quickly but I was glad that I made this choice. The rooms are as pretty as seen in the pictures and the staff are all very hospitable. Some reviews said the hawker center opposite to the hotel is noisy, but my room didn't hear the music during the evening. However there are indeed some noisy birds "shouting" in the morning from about 7am but I enjoyed it :) I will definitely consider coming back again if I come to visit Georgetown again!

We spent 4 nights here and it was a wonderful experience. The staff is amazing. Albert, Guest Experience Manager is a wonderful hotelier. Everyday he gave us ideas about which hawker center or restaurant to go to, where to get the best massages, etc,.. nothing was a trouble for him, he arranged everything. Our room was large and tastefully decorated. The whole mansion is beautiful. Lounge staff is great, breakfast is delicious. Thank you Edison staff

I have short stayed in many hotels in George town almost every 2 weeks for business. The Edison, in my opinion, has the best customer service and personal caring is exceptional. It is comfortable, beautiful, and immediately you will feel at home. I want to thank Albert, David and all the friendly staff I met for the hospitality and care during my stay. I will be back!

The hotel is well maintained and modern, the rooms are huge and amenities are aplenty. Our stay came with breakfast included and all guests can enjoy daily happy hour in the lounge in the evenings. The bed was large and comfortable and given the summer heat and humidity, the air conditioning kept was cool in the night. However, the standout must be the personalised service provided by the entire team. Albert, Faz, and everyone from the front desk to housekeeping were incredibly friendly, and helpful - offering tips and recommendations throughout our stay. It's not a big hotel, and so we loved how personal the staff could be with the guests. Didn't get to try out the pool or borrow their bikes, but best believe we'll be using these services on our next trip. Location wise, it's conveniently placed just outside of the epicentre of Georgetown which we appreciated. The beach is just a short walk way behind the E&O Hotel, or a exploratory 30 min walk to the jetties. There was little to no traffic sounds at night. Thank you to the entire team at Edison for an incredible, relaxing long weekend.

Shoutout to Albert and the entire staff! We throughly enjoyed our stay in the Edison. The staff is so personable and warm, so helpful in every way. It made our week very pleasant. From making local suggestions to the delicious breakfasts, the entire staff took care of us extremely well. I really loved the aesthetic of the hotel, maintaining parts of its old-world charm to combine with modern conveniences, it is done nicely. The pool area and the surrounding outdoor spaces are calming with the presence of greenery. The pool was very refreshing (read: very cold) and yet, I used it every day of my stay. The pantry was very convenient. I loved having fruit and water constantly around. The hawker center across the street was convenient, a source of good food and entertainment. The location is good for exploring Georgetown. This is definitely my go-to hotel in the area. I hope to have the opportunity to return!

I absolutely loved the visit and stay at Edison, which was made even more special thanks to Albert for his warm hospitality, friendliness and helpfulness. They also went out of their way to surprise me on my birthday morning with a cake and handwritten card. So A+ for thoughtfulness and a curated experience. Rooms were clean and great too. Only negative would be the breakfast which was not up to par - having only served some toast, overcooked scrambled eggs and a pathetic side of salad.

This place is a gem. Pretty much most of attractions are walking distance from this hotel. Our room is quite spacious and can definitely fit more than 2 people. Their lounge is the highlight. It is open 24h and it is stock up with foods and drinks. You can drink or eat as much as your belly can handle!

Wonderful hotel, everything you need for a short break. Albert and his team were the best, so welcoming, always there if you needed them, so many recommendations. Lovely old building, very comfortable, there was loud noise from the street/nearby premises at night, but everything was so fantastic, it makes up for this.

This is my second stay here and my husband and I have enjoyed our stay very much. From the personalized service to the comfort of the room, this feels very much like a second home - a very luxurious home of course. This first time we stayed here was for our wedding night. It was a wonderful stay but we were too busy and tired to truly enjoy it. But the team made the experience so memorable because they prepared a nice cake and cheese platter during the wine tasting to celebrate our marriage which really touched us. For our second stay, my favorite bit about this place is the lounge area with unlimited access to the snacks. I feel like a child enjoying whatever I please with no one to tell me that I'm eating too much yoghurt, and the Malaysian snacks that I used to enjoy as a kid made me feel really happy. Just wanna thank the team for making our stay a very pleasant one. We feel very much at home with the wonderful service and I like how engaging and attentive the team was. Highly recommend this gem and would definitely come back again.

Perfect stay in Penang. Very attentive and friendly staff. It’s officially my only go-to hotel in Penang! Thank you for this amazing hotel!

There is nothing that comes close to the hospitality, service, comfort and design in Penang. The hospitality is first class from the front desk to the service crew. Thank you for the immaculate hospitality. We also had the opportunity to spend some time with the founder, Eddie who patronizes the hotel regularly. His illustrious journey of how he founded the hotel amongst other interesting episodes were hugely entertaining. It has been one of the best stays I’ve had in Penang for as long as I remembered.

September 2020 Two words - "Simply Wonderful". The team at The Edison is quite fun - kudos to Ivan, Sophia, Emily and Jessie. This is the place where they know your name - it gives the final 1% personal touch-point experience. The 30+ room boutique hotel is small enough that gives a very cosy feel to the entire stay. The heritage buildng provides a unique experience, its like stepping back in time (with modern comforts in the rooms naturally), very very different from the run of the mill modern hotel stay. The Lounge is such a brilliant place to meet and hang-out. Such a brilliant concept for all day free-flow refreshments and snacks. The team at the Lounge really tries very hard to get to the door before the guest can open it themselves #ChallengeAccepted One suggestion to futher elevate the experience would probably to give guest options for local breakfast fare. Heritage buildng, local breakfast. :D Tip - The Edison makes a great background for photo shoots (especially at night)

There is nothing not to like about this hotel. The minute you step in you feel welcome right away. We were checked in by Sofia and Haris. Sofia helped us with our luggage. The check in was very quick. Everything about this hotel is superb. The decor, the room but we really stands out is their impeccable service. Absolutely 1st class. The Hotel Manager Ivan Khoo even addressed us by our 1st name, now if that's not 1st class than what. I really love the lounge where you can get coffee and treats all day long. The minute we checked out my daughter wanted to go back again. You guys at Edison really rock. You definitely understand hospitality. Keep it up guys. We shall be back soon.

Great ambience. Rooms are clean, fresh sheets amd strategic location for foodies. More importantly staff's service was impeccable! Gave us a brief tour on the hotel and history. Wine is good as well. Price is reasonable. Highly recommend!

What a gorgeous hotel in a great location in George Town. The hotel is tastefully decorated and rooms are large and modern. Being an old building, the sound-proofing is not great. I suggest the front desk provide ear plugs to guests upon request. The lounge is lovely and Albert was super helpful and hospitable! All the staff were warm. We will definitely be returning!

Back here again after 2 years and I'm still loving it. Hospitality, location, value for money. As part of their covid safety measures, I do see their staff being meticulous with masks and the manager mentioned how they're making sure rooms have a cleaning grace period of 24 hours before the next guest checks in. As a result, the space is not crowded and I do feel comfortable being outside my room at the shared premises like the lounge and poolside. The 24 hour lounge is brilliant as my friends and I have a great spot for socializing without having to go out of the hotel when we're feelin lazy. No kitchen service but we could order via grabfood to the hotel and they helped plate our Nasi Kandar beautifully! Haha Free flow of wine at 6-7pm is definitely the cherry on top of the icing on top of the cake. Hotel location is strategically a few minutes walk away from the major food spots and bars. The exceptional crew took such great care of us all, thank you Ivan and team! Can't wait to go back next.

Before I begin, I would like to thank Mr. Ivan and Mr. Albert! People like you are the assets of the hotel management. The warm welcome, friendliness has given us the best comfort in the hotel. The hotel was beautiful and the service were top notch. Not forgetting the location of the hotel is very much strategic to most places. I was there to celebrate my birthday and it was so kind enough of the hotel to surprise myself and husband a birthday cake. They have a 24 hour lounge filled with juices, coffee, tea, hot water, biscuits and local tidbits. The ambience is beautiful and gives you historic feeling looking at the design and architecture of the building. I would suggest this hotel for those who wants to relax and enjoy a calm holiday and to visit around Georgetown.

The hotel is relatively new, large rooms, good amenities with small pool that's good for cooling after a hot day in the city area. Not forgetting the 24 hr lounge with free flow juice, canned soft drinks, apples and snacks. Very convenient location, walking distance to the heart of Georgetown. Special thanks to the very helpful staffs, The front desk and guest relationship managers were all super helpful and responded to our special requests promptly.

We stayed here in Dec 2021 till new year. Had an amazing time. Staff and services were great. Location is really good - just a walking distance to all the famous restaurants or places of interest. We found out that our flight was delayed and they offered us for late checkout..so yes, that was definitely a plus point. I like their cafe. Even though there’s no room services but they offer free snacks and drinks at the cafe 24-hour. I like this place because it’s not too crowded. Definitely going to stay here the next time I go to Penang again.

Amazing hotel! Mansion was conserve and turned into a hotel. Will definitely recommend if you prefer staying in hotel more than outside. Friendly staff and good service until check out. FREE FLOW WINE EVENING was also one of the highlights if you love to drink.

Modern hotel with personable service My husband, our friends and I enjoyed a two night stay at the Edison hotel. We were looked after very well by Albert and the other staff. We appreciated Albert’s restaurant and food recommendations. The hotel building has been renovated nicely and our room was beautiful and modern. There is just a curtain between the bedroom and bathroom, but the bathroom is very spacious. Rooms have nice touches such as the gorgeous ceramic mugs and quality toiletries. The pool area is nice and the pool itself was just what we needed after wandering around the streets in the heat. We really enjoyed the snack bar, hot drinks and wine hour - things like this make a hotel stay memorable and elevate a hotel from good to great.

Stayed for a long weekend. The location is really good the upper part of Georgetown and close to restaurants and cafes. Rooms are really good with coffee machine and basic essentials. Good selections of amenities, too. They also have lounge where you can get drinks and snacks for free, plus a wine service in the afternoon. The service and the guest relations officers were really friendly and helpful. Highly recommended hotel.

  • 5/5 Michelle 1 year ago on Google
A perfect place nestled amongst the hustle and bustle of Georgetown. Beautiful old school charm , building architecture is properly preserved with carefully restored interiors. You really can’t get better than this or demand too much when you are staying in a UNESCO protected building. It’s centrally located amongst the tourist attractions and walking distance to many good eateries. At night you get to enjoy the local culture with the karaoke sounds blasting from Red Garden Food Court directly opposite the hotel. Take it as a form of entertainment and just immersed yourself in the culture. There are some parts of the hotel that may need some tweaking and upkeep. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the hotel especially the service which was top notch and possibly we spend too much time lounging around the lounge area !
