Burhanpur has a number of famous forts. Rainy season is the best time to go. It's both historical and mythological in nature. No entry fee to visit the fort. At the top of the fort, you may purchase snacks and namkin; at the bottom, you can purchase from a local shop. The road leading up to the fort is in poor shape, so be cautious. To get a full tour of the fort, including the Shiva shrine, log walking is required. Some of the fort's buildings have been shut down. Photographers and videographers will enjoy this location. If you're in Burhanpur, you should stop by.❣️

A wonderful palace/fort built in Aurangzeb time, which is still there on the mountains of Burhanpur. But it is so disappointing to see, everything have been ruined by the beloved citizens of our country, and unfortunately it has not been saved and taken care by Government. Ruined place or you can say Underrated fort, which becomes more beautiful in Rainy season. The fort is so so big that you will have to give at least half of the day to roam around and take pictures. There are too many spots for people who love photography.

Asirgarh is a medieval fort and Gateway to south India through Satpura range. Politically and economically important place of that time. Constructed in 15 th century by Asa Ahir. Taxes could be collected from merchants going either way to north or south. The place was under the reign of: Ahirs->Faruqi >Mughal->Maratha->Holkars->Shinde->British

Peaceful and historical location for spending one day. Great history and very old fort. There are many spots to visit like jama masjid, British cantonment barracks, church, rani mahal, mama-bhanja Talab, phasi ghar, mahadeo temple, etc. It will take nearly 3 to 4 hrs to visit all the places.

A great place to visit at monsoon, greenish background and the fort stands tall. Dont forget to visit the shiva temple inside the fort. Its around 400 mtrs from the fort. Its believed that, ashwathama still does pooja to this shiva.

Liked the place because of greenery caused by rain and a temple of Lord Shiv which is said to be visited and worshipped by Ashwatthama every dawn, yet no one has seen him. The Water Harvesting plan is so well designed that the fort may never run out of water, there are many small lakes with water and wells called 'Baoli' except this there's nothing much for the visitors to enjoy

Asirgarh -a formidable hill fortress nestled on Satpura Range at a height of 250 feet from mean sea level. Situated on the left side of NH 753L on the way to Indore from Burhanpur (nearest town 24 km south). Said to be built by the king Asa Ahir in the early 15th century. It remained invincible for a greater part of history and due to its strategic location also known as "Key to the Deccan". In the 15th century it was occupied by Nasir Khan of Khandesh and then in 1601 Emperor Akbar wrested it from Farooqi king. Legend/myth associated with the fort is that Chiranjivi Aswaththama of Mahabharata (son of Dronacharya famed teacher of Kaurawas and Pandawa) used to visit and offer prayers at old Shiva temple (Gupteshwar/Ahireshwar) Mahadev temple. ASI needs more dedicated efforts to restore it for the future.

Great fort and view from the fort are awesome. Information and history related fort you can easily search on the internet and one should visit the fort if you are going Burhanpur or en route to the fort. There are lots of spots so you can click great pictures see my attached pictures :) You can easily spend one whole day exploring the fort. Make sure you carry lots of water with you. One should take care of the time especially because it is only open till 5 PM. Cons: Not maintained properly. No drinking water on the fort.

Situated in the Satpuda hills, this place has both natural as well as historical importance. The best time to visit is from mid August to mid September when the whole plateau get covered by the flowers of myriad colour. The entry closes around 4:30 pm so plan accordingly.

This fort is impressive from outside. Inside two monuments are very beautiful. The Jama Masjid with beautiful carving and the Shiva Mandir situated in a huge step well.

The place is beautiful (during and post rain) and full of history (mostly wars of course). I have been there so many times in past 8 years. The sad thing is nothing is being done to attract more tourists. No toilets, no guides, no restaurants or even places to buy snacks from. Unorganized parking. It's another example of our ancient cultural history being deteriorated systematically. And yes...full of clutter. As there is no one to supervise, people throw all their trash, empty bottles and what not within the fort premises itself. If you still planning to go, Go during monsoon season. Do not carry any extra weight, just water bottle. Do not climb on the walls to get photographs.

Ashwathama (Sanskrit: अश्वत्थामा, romanized: Aśvatthāmā) or Drauni is the son of guru Drona and the grandson of the sage Bharadwaja. Ashvatthama is a Maharathi[1] who fought on the Kaurava side against the Pandavas in the Kurukshetra War. He became a Chiranjivi (immortal) due to a curse given to him by Krishna.[2] Ashwatthama Ashvatthama uses Narayanastra InformationWeaponBow and Arrow, SwordFamilyDronacharya (father) Kripi (mother)RelativesKripacharya (maternal uncle) Bharadwaja (grandfather) The deceptive plot of his rumoured death led to the beheading of his grieving father Drona, who was decapitated while meditating for his son's soul. Ashwatthama was appointed as the final commander-in-chief of the Kauravas in the Kurukshetra War. Overcome with grief and rage, he slaughters most of the Pandava camp in a single night offensive. Ashwatthama ruled the Northern Panchala being subordinate to the rulers of Hastinapura. He was one of the warriors of the Mahabharat war who crossed all limits of conduct and even misused divine Astras.

The fort of Asirgarh is a very good place, there we get to know a lot about our history, the way to reach there is also very exciting and there is also a Shiva temple in the fort, people believe that even today Ashwatthama is worshiped there.

Situated on the splendid Satpura Ranges, it covers more than 60 acres of area. With a perfect combination of Turkish, Persian, and Islamic architecture, this fort depicts a strong Mughal influence. It also houses a small temple called Gupteshwar Mahadev & an ancient mosque. One might also see the ruins of British graves, human-made ponds, & balconies that reflect ancient Indian architecture. The best time to visit this fort is from the month of October to March when the weather is pleasant.

Nice place to visit near Burhanpur . The best time to visit this place is from September to February when the weather is cool . It's open to all and completely free of cost . Monuments are good examples of Mugal and Maratha architecture . Many of them have turned into ruins but some are still there to show there beauty .

14th Century fort on a high hill amidst dense forest. Minars are visible from the road. Nearby Ashapurna Mata (Ashadevi) Temple is very auspicious. No restaurant is available nearby, only few tea, snacks, food shops are present on the main road.

It's a historical marvel perched on a hill, commanding awe-inspiring views of the surrounding landscapes in Madhya Pradesh. While the ascent can be a bit challenging, the panoramic views from the top make the journey worthwhile, offering a glimpse into the region's storied past.

A great historical place to visit, but what lacks here is maintenance. This historical ruin is in a really bad situation and does need proper care and maintenance. The archeology department should take proper care of it. Grass and wild trees are overgrown here, can be turned into a nice garden but no one cares about it. The is called one of the most haunted places in India, I don't know much about it but you guys make it look like it. The place is really good and it is a must-visit historical place, but I feel bad about it's condition due to lack of maintenance

Beautiful place to visit for 3-4 hours short 1-day trip. It reflects the importance of Burhanpur in medeival India. It was popularly known as "Key to the Deccan". Delhi to Asirgad was called Hindustan and below Asirgad was called Deccan. Although not properly maintained. Key places to visit in fort are: 1. Mahadeo Temple 2. British Cantonment 3. Mama-Bhanje lakes Not recommended to visit in summers. It also has 2 minars which can be seen from far away.

Amazing, awesome, the grandeur of 1000 years can still be felt. Definitely worth a visit. I visited on 2nd Jan 2021. Located on the Khandwa - Burhanpur road, 4.5km from the main road atop the hill. Take the road going through the village and not the one going to Ma Ashapura temple, as this is a dead end at the temple. Currently the approach road is in a pathetic condition. 20% of the 4.5km there is no road, just gravel & stones. Good ground clearance vehicles and experienced drivers can manoeuvre with ease. Good tyres will help. Open 10am to 5pm. Plan a picnic with brunch/lunch. Carry everything from food, water, mats etc as there is nothing available on top. Plenty of huge banyan trees to sit under. Currently a mobile ice-cream & related item van was parked on top, selling kulfi, faluda etc. Nothing hot. If you love forts, photography & historic places this place will take a min of 2-3 hours time. Now in winter can plan a visit between 2pm to 5pm as you will get the sunset bonus. After getting out of the fort at 5pm to 5.30pm(closing) you can wait in the parking for the sunset which currently is at 6pm. Rest the pics will do the talking. So Enjoy... # Not a Divyang friendly place. # Steps involved, at entrance around 50(didn't count) temple 1feet ones around 10. Mosque around 10. #Walking atleast 1.5kms inside the fort.
