Great spot to hang and grab some really good food. I’m not a huge fan of sausages, but they do them really well with some great toppings. Their buns are 👌🏼. The standout was actually the Mac and cheese from the appetizers. So creamy and delicious, they do it different than anyone else. Definitely worth coming and trying.

Visited Wursthall with a couple of friends last week and we definitely had a great time. The Wursts are really tasty and they have a great selection of flavors. You'll definitely be able to find a spot to sit down as there is a ton of indoor and outdoor seating. My only complaint is the menu is quite small and there aren't too many appetizers to choose from. Would definitely appreciate if the menu was reworked a tad. Otherwise, everything was splendid. Would recommend as a great spot to grab some food and drinks with friends or/and family.

This restaurant is designed like a German beer garden/beer hall. And it has a decent selection of beers and most of the popular stuffs from the local breweries, but nothing exotic or special that are imported over seas. So if you are expecting a real German beer experience, than this might not be the right place for you. But the QR code ordering system is convenient and easy to use. So you can enjoy the company with your friends without being disturbed by the staff too much.

Classic German beer hall interior design, with German food items on the menu, as well as new American food items. Wide selection of beers, with friendly and efficient service. Great location in downtown San Mateo, close to the train station. Plenty of parking lots to choose from, all within a short walking distance.

Excellent food, friendly staff, quick service! Stopped here for dinner on the way home from the beach. Both indoor and outdoor seating available and you scan the barcode to order food (the staff brings it to the table). We both ordered the wurst which was excellent. The potato salad was particularly delicious which surprised as I've only ever had more mayo based potato salad. The triple fried potatoes were good but basically square french fries. If I could have ordered a bag of the pretzel pieces that they put on the brownie, I definitely would have. The bathrooms are a bit tricky to get to and kind of in a scary hallway but it all worked out. Highly recommend!

Visited a few times and love the food despite the rising prices but don't know why I continue to receive poor service. I'm always very polite and tip well. Usually, it's from a few of the servers. It's not a one off or one person but no smiles or kindness anywhere. Ordering online through the QR code is easy but don't like having to close out everything including tip when placing order.

Very average food. The smash burger was better than the bratwurst however the bun overwhelmed the meat as there was a higher bread to meat ratio. I was surprised there weren't more authentic brats to choose from, so we chose the beir brat thinking it would be the most German, though the overly sweet toppings instead of traditional German mustard took away from the brat and made the whole dish very average. Our server seemed miserable, and not very happy. She actually seemed mad when I asked to move to slightly more shaded table. Speaking of which, they only have 2 umberallas for all tables, and neither umberalla actually shades the tables (note we were there at 1pm). If seating stays like this, I'd recommend not going until fall or until they buy more shade. Overall, disappointing experience for the actual cost of the meal - however, I'm still a huge Kenji fan.

Surprisingly family friendly restaurant where parents can enjoy a top notch beer without feeling guilty about their kids tagging along. Ordering is through QR codes (with photos!!!) so you don't need to flag anyone over and food comes out quickly. There's a kids menu and a small area where kids can draw after their meals...!!! Staff are attentive and friendly so we always have a good time here. Menu has lots of vegan and veggie options (impossible meats, dinner salads, and a nice cabbage side), which is notable for a sausage restaurant. The brownie dessert is HUGE and could easily be shared amongst 4 people.

Unique flavours including ample options for vegan/vegetarian . The ambience immediately sets a stage for a German dining experience. The plant based vegan sausage had a satisfying texture. The salads were also very flavourful. The devil's egg dish had a perfect balance of creaminess and texture.

Great place to catch up and hang with friends. The food is quite tasty. Don’t sleep on the potatoes or the chicken bites. The beer selection is robust for whatever adventure you choose! (Even n/a options). Personally I always go with the crispy Pilsner.

Finally got a chance to try this restaurant. Ever since I've seen the Korean chicken sandwich bon serious eats website I wanted to try it, then I find out the chef owns this restaurant nearby my house. Anyways, clean restaurant, outdoor seating available, friendly staff. You self order with your phone scanning the QR code. I of course ordered the Korean chicken sandwich, friend got the seared chicken sandwich, and also got the kinder Burger for the kid. The kinder Burger is a good portion for kids. Sorry no pics of that or the seared chicken sandwich. Omg, the thrice cooked potatoes. Get these now. If you like fries this is a must get. Super crispy, and fluffy insides, so good. The Korean chicken sandwich, chicken was also super crispy and moist inside. It lived up to my expectations.

Fun, lively atmosphere. Fully staffed with smiling friendly servers. Lots of seating, in and out. I would call this German fusion. Creative combos of flavors and seriously goos sausage and bratwurst. Highly recommend the fresh warm pretzel and honey butter. Yum!

Finally visited Kenji Lopez’s restaurant. We came the hour before closing and they let us sit down and eat. We ordered the Mai Tai IPA, the Chocolate Mousse Nitro Stout, the Pastrami Bratwurst with a side of Parmesan potato chips, my partner ordered the smashburger with thrice fried potatoes. And we also got Kenji’s spicy fried chicken bites to share. The Mai Tai ipa was good with a slight touch of sweetness, the chocolate mousse was delicious and tasted like a concentrated mocha coffee I’ve had before but alcoholic—very unique beers. The spicy fried chicken was the perfect bite size, there are dry seasoning on the bites but there’s also a filling my sauce. It was moist and tender on the inside and crunchy on the outside, seasoned very well with a spicy kick to it. The smash burger had a thick pretzel bun but it actually worked really well because it inflated when we pushed it down. There are fresh onions and cabbage in the smash burger which gives it a refreshing bite, we’ve never had burgers with cabbage and onions. We did salt the patty a little bit just because we prefer it salted, we had to ask for salt from the kitchen. The thrice fried potatoes were so good, crunchy on the outside and soft and intact on the inside. The Pastrami wurst was in this sweet butter lobster roll bun, perfectly toasted. The pastrami wurst was really delicious, it’s soft and doesn’t have more of the bite a wurst usually has. I prefer it soft but my partner wished it had more of a bite. The Parmesan potato chips were delicious and actually like a chip—I’ve had it in other places where it was soft in the middle or soggy. This was perfect. The staff were super nice to us and the service was amazing. You order and pay everything via QR code on your phone. We can’t wait to come back to try the other items on the menu.

A pretty good place to host large groups but overall food was pretty mediocre. The large beer steins are fun though.

Great beer hall, excellent, juicy sausages, well seasoned dishes (saucy!) and freshly fried goodies - fried chicken sandwich was thicc and glad it was paired with a refreshing chickpea salad. Would recommend the curry wurst for any first timer and it comes with a hefty portion of potatoes - seared and crispy. Good selection of local beers. Wish there'd be more sours and ciders on tap!

Food was good. Service was prompt. Servers were exceptionally nice. Worth checking out. Parking can be a challenge though. I had the chicken schnitzel with the salad and the serving portion was huge. I took home three of the pieces of chicken. Not overly flavorful but the chicken was moist and very well prepared. My cousin had the brat which was really good with the saurkraut and mustard. I'll get that next time. My husband had the el pastor which was super tasty. Very nice sausage consistency. Since we went down to the speakeasy after dinner, we didn't try the beer. Next time we will either do a cocktail downstairs first and then beer or go straight to beer.

This is a casual experience that you’ll do on your own. To start with, you’ll need to find parking in the area but it’s possible. Once you get in here you’ll scan a QR code to order. There’s a decent selection of wursts and the flavors are good. The service is quick too in case you’re in a hurry. You can also hang for beers if you’re up to it. My son and I both had the porchetta while my wife had the curry wurst.

It doesn’t taste like a 100% German place but it is still very yummy. Currywurst is a bit salty, Bier Bratwurst is better.

One of the best German restaurant in the Bay Area. Very authentic and super high quality.

Had a great weekend lunch here. Upscale beerhall that is more focused on food than beer. Fairly family friendly. Had a great Korean chicken sandwich with chickpea salad. Would not hesitate to come again if I was in the area and wanted a decent sit-down meal. For the QR code haters, this will not be the spot for you. QR codes are table specific and enable menu, ordering, and payment. This could help out if you are with a large group and need to bill split.

So glad I made the trek down while in SF. Being a fan of Kenji, I knew I had to. I wish I could have sampled more of the menu but went with the Deviled Eggs and Porchetta, both were great. Hopefully I'll make it back again.

Wow! Nailed it with the German food! Been to a lot of German restaurants, and wasn't expecting this one to taste so good. If you're hungry, you might need to order an extra sausage, but man... I am stuffed and full. Wife had the burger, I had the sausages. Still can't get past ordering off an online menu...

The smash burger was incredible! I came around 3:30 pm on a Friday and the place was mostly empty. The environment is open with some tables and benches like a beer hall. There is a QR code on the table to order your food and drinks. And then staff brings your stuff over. Easy and chill operation. I tried the famous smash burger with three times fried potatoes. The burger was so delicious with their house grind blend of beef – it had a nice clean and beefy flavor. The burger with saucy, but in a good way with the garlic mayo. Overall, I’d come here again definitely for the smash burger but next time I think I want to try the fried chicken sandwich

Food is delicious and prices are great! The service was great and there is ample space for parties of all sizes. Watched a basketball game here. Great atmosphere.

We randomly stopped in to have a thinking snack and drink one night and glad we did. The lemon radler is delish 🤤 and the pretzel was good too! The person that helped us the most was amazing, and gave great recommendations!

Great casual scene to chill after work and eat. Smashburger may not stand out because but it's pretty darn good- two thin patties that you can customize with lettuce, spread, etc. Chicken pesto on a sliced bun is pretty good along with the potatoes as your side. They have an obscene number of beer on tap.

4.5 stars but rounding up. Almost no wait on a weekend for lunch with no reservations for a party of 5. Loved being able to order food by scanning the QR code on the table. Be sure to order a free cup of water online with your order or you’ll end up parched from thirst. Ordered the Pastrami & Swisswurst and the chickpea and pickled carrots. Sausage was delicious and the sauerkraut really brings me back to my time spent in Germany. The chickpea and pickled carrots contained almost no carrots! Which was a bit disappointing. Probably shouldn’t advertise an ingredient as a menu item when there’s almost none inside. It was still tasty but I was really looking for a vegetable component to my meal but it was all starch.

It was honestly the best restaurant I’ve been to in the Bay Area. Service was quick, place was clean, and everything about the food was done right. The bratwurst was so juicy and broke off like butter, the smashburger was cooked perfectly. I’ve also never had potatoes done this well. Fills up quite quick around noon.
