I went meat shopping for my dogs, although i stopped buying there for my family couple years ago because of the quality, i was thinking the meat should be clean enough for the dogs to eat, I grabbed a pack of bones and looked in the pack to see a fly on top, packaged nicely inside, I can't believe I almost missed it, how gross I can't even shop for meats for my animals there, and to think I almost handed it to them makes me sick. Lesson learned, and reminds me of the actual reasons I will not be shopping there any longer

Updated review 4 stars: I know my old review got a lot of views and included a couple photos which really illustrated issues the store was having at that time (I'm removing those photos now). However this location of stop and shop is in process of making huge updates and improvements to the store, including better lighting, new shelving, new floors, etc. I've only been in a couple times lately (as I had gotten used to going to a different supermarket after previous review), but I'm impressed. They're investing a lot in these improvements and that deserves recognition. I'll actually stop by later this morning and check it out again. Have to give credit where credit is due - if you haven't been here in a few years it may be worth stopping in to see updated shopping experience. My initial issue has been fully resolved. Old review 2 stars: Hi, I'm not trying to be negative or critical. I know people do best they can but I challenge you to do better for your customers - and please clean shelf tops. I like and frequent these products and these shelves have looked like this for over a year now. I don't know if it is a workflow issue - where task is not clearly defined between stop and shop employees and delivery people, but I hope you can assign task to someone and check up to ensure it gets completed. Especially in these times, going a year leaving large messes on shelves isn't ok and really it's kind of uncomfortable buying drinks off of old dirt. Thanks for your help

About a year ago, I bought some fried chicken from this Stoneham store, and got a serious stomachache after eating it. So I bring the rest of chicken back and told them to check the rest if they are fresh, just in case other customer had the same issue. Their customer service had a really bad attitude, and asked me: "if they are not fresh, why you eat it?",

I am being kind with the 3 star rating. Most of the time the people are nice, but the prices are much higher than other supermarkets in neighboring towns. Sometimes its good for convenience. The issue i have today - i bought a lottery ticket from the store on Monday. I went in tonight to cash the ticket, i was told, sorry the lottery desk is closed. Meanwhile 2 employees were conducting whatever business they were doing at the counter. 6:00 pm look at your store cameras. #masslottery

Stop &:Shop actually thought putting in a huge Star Bucks, widening lanes with florescent lit signs would make a difference to their rating. It's customer service and it's still lacking. I saw workers walking around, so sad and bored. They didn't interact with people at all. Then one of those robots that cleans was zooming around, it almost hit me. A lot of the shelves were bare and I remembered why I started going to Shaw's in Melrose. No fancy new store, but workers smile, engage and are happy to be there. The custome are very polite and kind to one another. Makes a big difference!!

One of the cashiers Sa*****ha told me it was store policy to scan the grocery of the person behind me instead of mine without asking or notifying me first because I went to get something that was not even an aisle away, though a lady in another aisle did the same thing and the cashier scanned her items while she went. Never in all of my years going to stop and shop has this happened. It was very rude and uncalled for.

what a fantastic experience! The aisles were well-organized, and the staff was super friendly. Found everything on my list, and the checkout process was quick. Love the variety and quality of products. Definitely my go-to grocery store!

Charged my card THREE times for an online pickup order. I had called customer service to cancel an order due to the fact I used the wrong card. I was assured the first order was cancelled. The rep told me to check out using the correct card and I did. I only received an order confirmation for ONE order. They Gave me double of what I ordered and I was charged for this!!!!! Customer service was no help. Super distraught that I have all this food that will likely expire before it will be used.

The renovation of the store gives more options to choose from. So that is great. Store is clean and that is great too. The awful part is checkout. The self checkout, for years, has been problematic with unnecessary machine stoppages and automatically calling for help (to a poor associate selected to constantly reset the machines) because it is way too sensitive. Now that Stop and Shop has followed other companies’ foolishness in charging for each bag and the machine’s over sensitivity in determining if a bag has been placed and/or item has been placed in the bag, the machine stops again and again. Even our kind helper had the same issues when she was trying to help us. There is no way to quickly scan and place items in the bags and move bags around without causing the machine to stop the process many times. These machines are truly awful and even the ones that came before them. With many items it is faster to use the traditional check out line with a real person scanning. This is true but defeats the purpose of self checkout. Target’s self checkout machines are far superior. And I will limit my shopping to select fresh fruits and vegetables that can only be found at Stop and Shop. My suggestion is to reprogram the machines to ask at the end of transaction, how many bags? That would solve part of the problem. Self checkout saves stop and shop tons of money on help so if a few people aren’t honest about how many bags they have then who cares? Really these Stop and Shop self check out machines are terrible except if you are buying only one item.

Stay away from the salty deli lady. This deli lady that I normally encounter on weekend mornings is always incredibly salty and rude, even when trying to be nice. I've finally had enough of her nastiness and will never return. I hope one very bad apple doesn't spoil the bunch!

I think it's on a nice location and convenient place to shop. Lots of parking space. Fruits some time don't look fresh, but fish do. I like the bakery section. Just a side note: Unfortunately, it recently closed the in-store Dunkin Donuts though.

Stop & shop is not your neighborhood supermarket as the prices ridiculous and it shows to their competitors how they are price gouging. It's really sad how a big corporation like stop & shop continues to rob the average middle class person. Prime example a gallon of stop & shop milk $4.29 and a gallon of Market basket milk and stop & shop brand half gallon is can anyone tell me what's really going on here. And believe me I have so much to do rather than this but I want to expose the good and the bad when I write Google reviews and stop and shop is just down outright ridiculous and I'll never shop there again

Self scanners cause more problems. I would rather stand in line than self scan. If the weight is too light,it doesn't register you placed it on the bagging area and help is on the way flashing lights come on. Besides that, bright and clean. Employees do not know what Free Friday is. I spoke with 3 different employees and no one had a clue. The tall boy, at customer service, was extremely rude and demanded me to show him my Free Friday App. He had no clue what I was talking about and RUDE. Why isn't there a sign hanging up for employees to see what the Free Friday product is??? This wasn't the first time employees didn't know what I was talking about.

I changed my review to a 5 however its probably a 4.5 mainly due to the fact that the prices are higher than other local grocery stores. Sometimes they have shortages which I believe is out of their control. (Happens to most stores)The staff have always been nice and it is always clean.

I like the stores "Stop and shop" even if they are small. I usually find everything I need, and I love the bread department. I'm glad you can always pop in and buy a birthday gift card or trash bags)) Whatever you need. Huge parking lot. There are always parking spaces. There are construction works around, but it does not affect entry. Minus - self-checkout is very often stupid. If you first enter the zone of check-out goods, it will squeak and give an error—such an imperfect electronic brain.

Come to this store if you want to see empty shelves. This used to be a good grocery store, but over the last few months it is facing major supply issues. Now it lacks even the most basic groceries. Good luck with buying milk, bread, eggs or cheese. You will not find any of those even if you are coming as early as 11 am. And this is NOT related to recent snowstorm, it has been like this over the last few months and definitely not related to weather.

Still no response. Word has it that the regional manager told the customer assistance people at HQ to ignore these issues regarding threats and cleanliness issues (among other issues). The customer service people performed quite well --- "management" was abysmal. In the Stoneham, MA store it appears to be routine for one (and only one) staffer at the deli to verbally abuse customers and in my case threaten to throw me out if I went to the store again. Fortunately much of what he had to say was incomprehensible - except for the part about being old and white. Other than that the store remains less than sanitary, short of product and comparatively expensive. It is encouraging to see that a number of the staff are clearly dedicated but management shows poor judgment when 'barking' at them in the presence of customers. They are human beings and should be treated with respect. Customers expect a civil shopping environment. The bottom line is that the managers can be trained, but prejudice carries a heavy burden with it ... you can't fix stupid. I would also recommend that you hire legal residents. S&S contacted me by email. Unfortunately the complaint was intercepted by a local regional S&S VP and he told the person working the complaint to "throw it out." Upper management needs to follow up on this outstanding complaint. Further follow up to inform the local community is likely as well as with S&S.

I love stop and shop but its definitely more expensive than other places

  • 2/5 Jackie M. 1 year ago on Google
Always expensive! No breaks here, the gas points expire too soon not really making it any deal at all. And that stupid robot, just want to lock it in the closet.

I wish this Stop and Shop was better. It's really convenient to be able to get gas at the same time as groceries, plus they have an ATM. But it's just not worth having to shop there: the products are overpriced and the selection is poor, they're perpetually understaffed, and what staff they do have tend to be incompetent. The first time I went in, I tried to get a Stop and Shop card. The cashier told me that this wasn't possible, as I'd have to go to Customer Service for that. Unfortunately, the only person who knew how to work Customer Service was her, and because they didn't have enough cashiers, they moved her over to cashier duty. The second time I tried, the Customer Service person said they didn't know how to do the Stop and Shop card, and the person who knew how to do it was on break for 20 more minutes. I went around, did some more shopping, and came back when that person wasn't on break. They tried to do the card, but they apparently got logged out of the machine, and they didn't know the password (why does the customer service person not know the password to the customer service computer?). The manager comes around, enters the password, and apparently the system crashes and now they need a technician to look at it. No card again, half an hour spent. And today, I waited in line for a cashier who was trying her best, but clearly had difficulty reading and was constantly asking the manager for help with everything. Said manager was pretty clearly fed up by this, as she annoyedly pointed out each of the numbers to the cashier, in front of customers. Meanwhile, another manager was complaining loudly about how some other employee was on break *again*. I quietly grabbed my groceries and scurried out of the store, vowing never to return. On the bright side, the orzo I got is pretty tasty. But I think they also have it at Market Basket, which is where I'll be going from now on.

The gentlemen Nick at the self checkout station was really patient, and even offered helpful tips to soothe the pain of these unbearable self checkout machines, that are beyond sensitive to the point where it makes it unbearable to use half the time 😭 store itself has always been an alright store, prices are definitely noticeably higher than competitors, but that’s not the stores fault. Always nice staff there no problems with them just fix your system for real 🤦‍♂️💯
