The elusive Mandarin duck at Burnaby Lake. For over a year now I've been trying to capture a photo of him. He's been on the news as they aren't from this area, they don't know how he got here. Sunday I finally got my pictures of him & his mate. It made my day 🌞 have a great weekend everyone 🌞

My favorite place for running or walking. There is a lot of birds and squirrels and frogs in the lake. Every season is beautiful and I am always taking a lot of pictures of nature and lake and animals. Always happy to go back.

Great place to spend 2 hours with someone special. Pretty flat surface with some amazing lookout points. We saw lots of slugs on the trails so be careful not to step on them. It’s easy to stay in loop by ignoring any cut out points.

Flat gravel trail 10.3km lake loop. Great for easy walks & jogs (no biking). Various viewpoints & numerous parking spots along the trail loop. The Southside trail can be a bit noisy coming from the #1 highway. Lots of Donald Duck's relatives here for a reason.

This spot is my go to place to relax and feed some ducks. In the heart of Burnaby is Burnaby Lake. It’s decent size with packed gravel trails threaded through the park. Its well maintained and clean. There is easy access right at entrance for wheelchair and ample parking a bit further. Plenty of ducks to feed and always hungry. The birds will eat off your hand if you let it. This part of the park gets really busy on weekends and most evenings.

The trail is fantastic. It reminded me of my younger self back home, hiking in the jungle. The amazing birds singing melodies only nature can provide.

It's an okay park. Nice 10km loop around the lake for walking, and some nice views. However, it feels like the city encroaches too far into the park. Barely feels natural at all. No biking in the park, so keep that in mind.

Amazing trails along the lake. Shaded paths with little bridges for the many creeks flowing into the lake. Saw a bald eagle perched on a tree. Came across a black bear in the evening so watch out!

Excellent park with tons of beautiful variety of birds 🦢 🦆 and a lake surrounded by nature trails which are well maintained. Wherever you are looking for a nice place for a walk, jog or run. Perhaps a fun activity outdoors with the kids. Burnaby Lake doesn’t disappoint.

It's a very nice regional park. There are different trails that you could walk. It might get busy on weekends and parking is limited. It's a great place for the little one to feed birds. Nice place for bird watching too

What a nice treat on a Sunday ! I have never been to Burnaby Lake before. Thank goodness there are on site maps for the trails and observation sites. We did one of the elevated sites with handcap rairs and ramps to look out over the water. What a view. We only did half the trail I was just too hot to complete the journey. We stayed on the shady side. Lots of dogs on leash. And very few bikes going by. I promise I will come back more prepared.

I enjoy going to this park in the evenings. It’s a well maintained 10 km trail with several smaller loops all around it. A portion of the trail is shared by cyclists and equestrians. I’ve observed several little birds, ducks, an egret on some occasions, and turtles near caribou dam, and finally on two separate occasions during the hotter summer days I’ve come across snakes- luckily it caught my eye from a safe enough distance. Overall it’s a great place I like going for a run also because it’s in my neighborhood.

Beautiful place for a walk! A few kilometers all the way around, so i recommend going around some of the smaller loops. Also check out Piper Spit, it has a huge variety of birds including a Mandarin duck, Wood ducks, Mallards, Green-winged Teals, Dowitchers, and Red-winged Blackbirds.

Beautiful park in the city! The trail around the lake is flat but long… almost 10k to do the whole thing. Lots of points of interest… bird feeding/watching, equestrian, model plane flying, boat club, soccer, and so on. Plenty of parking space available.

The perimeter trail at Burnaby Lake Regional Park was amazing. It is a good length and took us three hours walking at a moderate pace with stops at vantage points. We entered from Avalon Ave off Cariboo Rd. Parking space is ample. There is an info board at the east side and a portable toilet on the west. We took Freeway to Southside. We planned to turn around at the Glencairn entrance but decided to go on. Reaching Thomas St, we continued around the playground. We were both desperate for a bathroom by then and thankfully there were great clean spacious bathrooms at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre. The rear doors were locked so we walked around to the front. Back on the trail, we went over a bridge and were then on Cottonwood Trail that runs parallel to the train tracks. We found the viewing tower which showed us a dock where you can see a huge amount and variety of ducks. I think one could spend a lot of time alone just in that area, and there is a connecting parking lot (Piper Spit and Nature House), but it is much smaller than the one at Avalon. Continuing on the trail brought us to Cariboo Dam and back to the parking lot. 10.3 kilometres! Of course there are also shorter sections and paths that loop back. There are very few stores that are accessible from the trails, so best to bring along drinks and snacks if you need. Daniel

Excellent park with nice walking trails and a lovely area for bird watching. Great park to take children to see the birds. It is also a salmon spawning area, so good place to see that at the right time of year as well.

(Translated by Google) Burnaby Lake is a place to watch birds (the appearance looks black, but the inner color of the wings when they fly is bright red) and ducks and geese. Some animals are seen for the first time. It is also a good place for photographers to take pictures. The parking space is relatively tight. Although there are three parking lots when entering the park from the intersection of Piper St., there are not many parking spaces. It depends on personal luck.

Love this park although when there are many people you find you are always moving to the side to let them by. So a bit annoying and why can't they move sometimes??? People can be so self centered at times...I swear.

Lovely location. Well maintained trails for walking with or without a canine friend(on leash). Experience the beautiful lake and feed (bird friendly feed) the many different species of birds before you leave the park. The restrooms are clean, and there is a small picnic area to enjoy. This is a family favourite we try to visit every week.

In case you want to feed wild bird food (birds are seasonal, eg Herron, ducks, etc) available at Costco, best place to visit this. Even otherwise, one of the rare scenic beauties in the city.

Nature house was closed until further notice in October 2021 still Watching the birds, different types of ducks and geese playing and grooming in water was a lot of fun. Making Birds come and sit on hand to eat was another excitement. We saw First time in life the Super Mario red mushrooms in real at this park.

One of the best place in Metro Vancouver to have a calm and pleasant experience with nature. The trail is beautiful.

  • 2/5 Nick S. 2 years ago on Google
Well kept paths but besides that it's a boring, unscenic walking path considering it's along a lake. Cuts through industrial areas, train tracks, parking lots, etc. Noise backdrop of birds along with the low industrial hum of traffic and trains. Garbage cans and benches for resting are few and far between.

  • 5/5 Casey Q. 2 years ago on Google
It's a beautiful park with lots of parking. Just off the highway it's easily accessible. The parks are well kept with fencing and lights at night time. There is an open concession when there is events and most games. It's gated and really clean. There are wheel chair ramps. I love when my kids sports are here.

I came the other day on a gravel bicycle ride. I have always wanted to ride the south rim of the park by bicycle and I finally got the chance. Burnaby Lake is a beautiful park with lots of trails perfect for walking, horseback riding and cycling. A wonderful slice of nature in the heart of burnaby. The noise from the highway is not too bad and the trails are well maintained. 100% would ride again. On my favourite list.

Lovely park with a variety of trails. There is a nice pier within easy walking distance to the parking area. Washrooms; running water; and picnic tables available. Lots of ducks, birds and geese to be seen at the pier. This park is VERY busy during the summer on weekends and evenings.

  • 4/5 Eddie S. 2 years ago on Google
Such a nice park for all ages to have a walk short or long and watching birds. It only takes a few minutes walk to the pier. You will see lot of birds there with such a nice view! If you go there in winter, you will see more birds.

Burnaby Lake Regional Park is a good place for hiking trail. You can watch birds at Piper spit. It is a wonderful place to watch lots of birds closely. You can go to nearby tower to see the whole view of the lake. However, there is no enough parking. In addition, the parking lot is unpaved. You know it is terrible in rainy day. When you walked along the lake, you cannot see any lake views as there are too many tree and plants at lake side. To improve the facilities of the park is desirable.

  • 5/5 A. San P. 10 months ago on Google
So full of wildlife in the heart of the city - great for birding and potentially fishing. You’ll also sometimes see turtles and fish. The loop is 2-3 hours long, but not all of it is bike friendly. Dogs need to be on leashes. The loop has a lot of shade for most of it which is great for sunny days.

I parked at the Lake Glencarin Trail Entrance, near the wildlife rehab center, and walked onto the boardwalk / trail on a Saturday, mid-morning. I was there for about 20 minutes. In that time, dozens of runners passed me, alone or in groups, talking to each other or talking on the phone. Some had to engage in standoffs on the trail with seemingly inconvenienced Canada Geese. Consistent and not-insignificant car noise from the highway a few hundred feet away from the lake's edge (I imagine this isn't the case on the north side entrances?). Wasn't ideal for birding / birding by ear but seemed like a lovely place for a run or a social stroll, despite the geese.

  • 4/5 Alexander L. 11 months ago on Google
Nice place for a walk or run with relatively flat land. A lot of different types of birds and bird sounds. A lot of geese too, so be careful. I only walked on the north side.
