I’ve been here a few times in the past 8+ years and haven’t seen improvement in the triage for their care for emergency patients. It’s so sad to see how dismissive they are towards the patients, specifically the Asian lady with glasses at the triage, she would always give you an attitude, death stare, and an impolite answer whenever you ask her a question or if you are checking in with her. It’s not the first time we have dealt with her & she is so awful to deal with. It’s like she hates this job or something. I understand this maybe a tough job, but no one wants to be here in the ER too & patients are already anxious. I’d wish she gave some compassion and care, just like how Fraser Health shared commitments states, “Deliver courteous and considerate care to you and your family.”. I’ve been in the hospital for 5 hours already since 1am, it’s now 6am, and it seems to be normal for them to have patients to wait. We understand the doctors are busy and prioritizing the ones in most danger, but all we only want to know is when can we be out & to prepare for work. When my husband gently asked if there are any updates & how long it will take, that lady rolled her eyes and sternly said, “THERE ARE NO UPDATES FOR YOUR WIFE” and left it as it is. She could have handled it with better care such as, “Unfortunately there are no updates, we will call your wife’s name when the doctor’s are ready.” or “We currently do not have any updates, please proceed to wait and we will call your wife’s name as soon as we can.” It seems like it’s too much of a question to ask and the sad part is that we were so patient with her. This made us feel very small, extremely anxious, and completely dismissed. I am very disappointed how Burnaby Hospital/Fraser Health doesn’t review these issues for many years now and continues to promise patients their false “shared commitments”. Eagle ridge has much more efficient and kinder staff, & wait times are relatively shorter. It’s probably worth going to them than Burnaby Hospital if you don’t want to be treated poorly.

Super rude lady at triage. My daughter inhaled smoke and ash in an apartment fire. After speaking with nurses on the 811 line they suggested we visit the hospital. The triage lady suggested it was probably just a cold and gave us attitude like we were wasting her time. This a message to you triage lady “No one ever just wants to go to the hospital. People go there because they are concerned about their own or their loved ones health, so treat us that way or go find another job where your attitude problem is useful”

I am rating only the lab where I went for blood tests at week 39 of pregnancy. The female sitting at reception (23 feb at 8:20) of the lab was super rude. I did not take a requisition hard copy with me. She asked me to go back. I asked if there was any option of taking a print out at the hospital to which she replied "I don't know. Please go !" Another kind person came from behind the desk and suggested that I can ask the doctor to fax me the requisition. This person talked in a polite manner. I said ok, and sat in the absolutely empty waiting area to call the doc (I am 39 week pregnant). Suddenly the rude receptionist shouts that I can not sit here till I don't get a requisition. "Please go outside !!". She added. I am so happy I am not registered at Burnaby hospital for delivery. And would like to believe that she is the only one so rude and rest of the staff is nice and friendly.

I didn’t know this is where my tax payer money is going to. Rude, slow, overpaid to do nothing. Edit: I left Zone 3 I believe with the biggest upset. I told the staff that I’m leaving and to book me out because I had no doctor come and clear me for 2 hrs while one doctor said I was good to go but the actual doctor had to see me. While leaving one of the “nurses” (so-called) was like BYE! and called me rude for no apparently reason. She wasn’t even wearing a uniform and was wearing some kind of hoodie. We need a whole reform of this system.

There is a rule no disrespect of staff, just sitting in the lobby I can listen to how the triage speaks to sick patents. They are coming to hospital to feel safe and better. Not to be belittled. No one will argue back because security will remove them. Very sad . Asking the rudest questions and yelling at patients where the lobby can hear. What a shame. As the hospital expands, the hire more and more entitled and people who abuse their positions. Just an observation sitting here This is directed to triage. Edit.. .found out the turn over rate of triage is high. They need to implement standards and maybe a smile. It's Xmas eve. Merry Xmas

RUDE STAFF! Especially at the triage section, watch out for the Asian lady with glasses and the white chubby brunette girl. I thought they were just tired with the shift so I tried to understand their attitude but seeing all reviews here, it seems like they are really awful people. Waiting time at the emergency center is too long

MRI review: all-around a fine experience! Didn't have to wait long, the staff were friendly and informative, and I felt taken care of. The radiologists could have been a bit more communicative, but it wasn't an issue. Thank you!

The emergency department of Burnaby General Hospital receives an “F” rating from me after my 6 hour visit there last night. The staff, including Triage and nurses in emergency were atrociously rude and uncaring toward me and other members of our community who required their help. As a member of the medical industry working in another hospital, I understand the strain put on these departments as understaffing and over population are a great issue. But it’s the caring and empathy required in these settings that is grossly absent. I decided to sign a waiver and leave the hospital last night. If the staff put in as much enthusiasm towards their patients as they do their phones, all patient outcomes would look very different.

The road sign leading to this hospital should read "Beware of hardship". Posting my experience, only because there is a probability that a fellow being with infants / toddlers / kids could read and avoid visiting this excuse of a hospital at all costs. Visited the ER with my toddler kid with a 41.9 deg.C fever to be attended by one of the most apathetic person posing as a Triage practitioner. Please train your staff on the skill to "LISTEN" first, before responding. As I am explaining the events that led to his fever, responses are nowhere related to why/how of the condition. We made a stern request to at least check the temperature again to convince her to allow to proceed to the waiting area. Then comes two doctors with no experience handling toddlers, calls for no help when he sees our kid getting afraid of getting checked. After standing a while, they both give up, but wait, not without giving random guesses as to what might be causing his fever - thanks much, we really needed the guess work. The final question from the doctor left me stumped. But, it is not for my review here because, for all the money paid as a non-resident Canadian in that hospital, that snippet of humor is the only payback I got. Thanks but no thanks!

I came here in March of 2019 after passing out from extreme pain in my lower abdomen. I told doctors and nurses about the pain and the big lump that had been sitting in there for months prior to passing out. I didn't know better and just trusted them because, well, they're supposed to be the experts. They just gave me fluids and told me "not to bear down so hard when on the toilet"! They saw the lump, I literally passed out it was so painful, and they didn't think to bring out an ultrasound and check...just wanted to get me out. A year later I get pregnant and go for my first ultrasound, and what do they find? An 11 cm cyst growing on my ovary. I am so lucky it never twisted my fallopian tube!! I had to wait 8 months until birth, and then 5 months after that to finally get surgery (from somewhere else, definitely not this hospital!) to have it removed. If staff at this hospital weren't negligent and lazy, I could've had it out before getting pregnant and risked twisting a tube which would risk losing an ovary. All because they didn't want to put any effort in just checking. And to think, this is how it was run before the pandemic.

My fiancé and I came to this hospital on Jan 5th 2022 due to chest pain and shortness of breath. The response from the front nurse? Since you’ve been to the hospital previously for your chest you don’t need to be here and you can probably go home. Rest and sleep this will most likely solve your issue. Seriously!? For chest pain and shortness of breath? All of the nurses lack empathy, kindness and compassion at this hospital. If you want to be taken care of don’t come here.

We had our sisters delivered her second child here, the Dr was exceptionally good but some of the staff was so hard to believe that they worked in a hospital. The word empathy is far beyond the reach for some of t them. Have you been to the cafeteria??? The old lady not sure if it’s Timmy staff or hospital staff is the rudest in any Tim’s we have been to. You don’t have to cry with the patients don’t have to smile to their face but you can behave professionally and not rude. I dint think there is anyone seeing or reading these reviews thanks to the management

Based on my friend’s experience, I would say it’s an horrible time in this place, the triage staff is racism in an public hospital! I can’t believe it happens in Canada in 21 century. The nurse was yelling at my friend’s parents to not spreading the virus!? And go back to home? How rude is she, his parents got other health issue and that’s why they are going to hospital for help, and the nurse just told them to go back to home, it’s unbelievable. Even the government said all people are free whatever they are positive or not, but the staff there in public hospital, refused to take the patients, and yelled them to go home! I really suggest you guys not going to this hospital and also to whom may concern about this problem, hope you guys can attach great importance to this issue. It’s not ok, and it’s illegal. Finally I hope that staff’s parents been treated same in the future, and then she will know how bad is her.

I’m not sure if he was a surgeon or nurse but he was very rude to me when asked about my ingrown mail and some skin condition. Caucasian man maybe 6 or less foot tall with short hair I think. He didn’t take my situation serious at all and had a mocking and judgemental attitude to me the whole time even though he was serious about suggesting to surgically remove the ingrown nail. I told him I was really worried about surgery since I never had surgery. Later on he then said I should just wait my nail out if it gets worse come back. He gave me no medications for the nail and I’m not sure if they’re supposed to do that if not so I’m very sorry about that. But after the way he treated me the whole time I don’t know if I feel comfortable to go back or go to a different hospital if I have to go again since it’s my nearest one Edit: so the owner replied, maybe instead of letting others waste more of their time making a complaint. How about you do something to about some of the workers acting downright inappropriate to the patients instead of just replying to bad reviews. This hospital already has so many bad reviews that replying to me saying that makes it look even worst. I mean this hospital couldn’t even make it a 3 star review. It feels like the owner is putting a bandage on a deep scar with this one sadly

Disgusting Chinese nurse in the ER verbally abused and attacked me for asking how much longer it would be. I wasn’t even speaking with her and just holding my head to stop the bleeding. Could barely speak English and clearly knows nothing about basic manners.

Shout out to palliative care nurses! A close family member of mine passed away in this hospital's palliative care earlier this year. The nurses that took care of my family member for the 10 days leading up to their passing were all so sweet. Made sure that my family was okay. Saw that I was sleeping on the bench/sofa in the room without blankets or pillows and automatically brought some for me. Very patient with all the questions I had to ask. The night before my family member's passing, the nurses came up to me to make sure that I was going to be okay. Gave my family space to grieve and let us take our time with our family member after they passed. Truly an amazing group of people.

I really hope burnaby Hospital has improved their medical service quality more than before. I had a terrible experience at burnaby Hospital back in 2019 December's. I nearly died due to a lack of knowledge(experiences) of a triage nurse and an ER nurse. I was very septic already when I arrived at the hospital, I waited for 4-5 hours after seeing a trige nurse. I could not understand it, but I had no choice. The triage nurse did not seem to care about patients there. I explained to the nurse my symptoms in very detail, but it did not help. Finally, I got into the ER, many tests were done, and my ER nurse would not give me any more painkillers after a first dose. I asked the nurse if I had a pain medication order. The nurse said, "Yes," but she did not come back to me even though I requested a painkiller many times. Finally, she came to me and told me to move to some sort of a waiting area where a lot of patients were sitting. The nurse told me to sit, but I could not sit due to excruciating pain. I jumped up and down, grunting, moaning, and screaming due to the worst pain in my life (worse than labor pain). The ER nurse did not show up for a long time, and finally gave me another dose of pain killer when I screamed and cried out for many hours like a crazy person....of course everyone there were looking at me. The pain was unreal....like a worst labor pain. Finally, a surgeon came to me and told me I needed an emergency surgery....so, I was moved to a pre-op room right away. I heard a pre-op nurse's verbal report to an OR nurse, saying the patient is sensitive to narcotic, causing drowsiness, according to the ER nurse. What a joke. The pain killer helped cut just the edge off my pain. I was hoping the pain medication took my pain away and closed my eyes for a bit when I received my first pain killer......but it cause me to have the worst Hospital experience because I closed my eyes. I hope the HCP provides better care to patients and know more about patients and what they are going through....at least do some assessment or/& research on patient.

Doctors are great. Nurses are rude in the waiting room. Bad organization. Nobody knows who the nurse called. If you miss their calling because of their incorrect pronunciation of the patient name, you have to wait at least three hours for the next calling in the emergency department. It’s crazy. Hopefully, they will replace their inaccurate pronunciation with spelling letters when calling patients' names in the future.

As a first-time mother, I was anxious about my delivery, but I was pleasantly surprised by the care and support I received at the Burnaby General Hospital. From the moment I arrived in labor and delivery, the staff quickly assessed me and got me admitted early. The rooms at Burnaby General Hospital were spacious and clean, which made my stay more comfortable. I had been going to their maternity clinic since week 20, and the staff had always been empathetic, caring, and patient with me. The doctors and nurses were always available to answer my questions and address any concerns I had. They even went above and beyond by calling me on the weekends and evenings to let me know my test results, which really helped to ease my anxiety. Overall, I am extremely grateful for the care and support I received from the staff at Burnaby General Hospital. They made a difficult and stressful experience much more bearable. I highly recommend Burnaby General Hospital to any expectant mothers who are looking for a positive childbirth experience. Thank you to everyone that was involved!

Rating for the Labor & Delivery! Super awesome experience for labor and delivery. Nurses & Doctors were helpful and nice. Spacious delivery rooms. Although the maternity ward is very old/damp and I found a live silverfish near my new born's bed. I brought it notice to the nurses who killed it. Glad that they are constructing a new building.

Doctors are generally pretty good, nurses are hits and misses depend on who you get, some can be pretty mean. The triage and front desk clerks are horrible, lack of compassion and empathy. Totally understand the pressure and work load they face, but patients are going through life and death sometimes, a little empathy is much appreciated.

Absolutely disgusting service. My wife was told to go to emergency from urgent primary care because the symptoms she was describing led the nurse to believe she may have swelling in the brain. We waited in emergency for just under 7hrs watching people with stupid injuries from sprains to small cuts going in before us. Elder people with nothing more then shaking legs. How does any of that take priority over a pregnant woman with possible brain swelling. We were told at about 6pm that my wife was next on the list, 45 minutes later a nurse comes out and call 6 people at once, My wife's name was not one of them. We left and we'll be seeking treatment elsewhere. Horrible disgraceful treatment, Or lake there of I should say. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.

I hate to review a hospital... However, Burnaby General has been very disappointing. I understand there are shortages of Doctors and Nurses. I also understand nurses are over worked and the hospital is short staffed... However that doesn't mean the nurses and admin can't have compassion. Nurses forget why they became a nurse... to help and care for people... especially patients and there families. The staff and service at the emergency is awful. The nurses are rude and insensitive to those who need help. The check-in triage staff are so awful and super rude. The nurse I dealt with had a major attitude problem. Not all the staff are like that, but most of them do not care or take you seriously. I had one girl at a separate time who had her phone out beside her with the screen on while I was checking in... I could see the chat window as her notifications were going off. The staff have no patience for your needs. Rather than understanding, they are judgemental. People who checked in before me were treated poorly. Especially those elderly or can't speak or understand english. The staff are not compassionate. The nurses inside are just as worse!  My sister had surgery, and after that, she was put in recovery. She experienced the nurses just socializing. Talking so loud about their personal conversations. A few Nurses were too busy talking about themselves and their plans and what they were going to eat. This was around 6pm a nurse was going off about ordering skip the dishes because she had to stay and do overtime. Meanwhile my sister requested some water and something to eat as she got out of surgery and her last meal was the night before. She was wondering her let go time. The nurse didn't give any information. She didn't have her phone, so to get their attention to use the phone to call and let us know was impossible as they were loud and obnoxious. The nurses try really hard to avoid you. +Patients were they put their attention to their conversations. When in recovery they didn't even notify us about when she was done surgery and how it went. They decided to keep her overnight as there were no doctors to clear her to go home. They didn't notify anyone, they didn't even have a room ready for her. The one nurse was talking about working overtime and getting credit for skip the dishes and what she w She said the staff in recovery had no regard for the patients who were in recovery. Patients, including my sister, were treated so poorly. At night, they have only ONE doctor running the entire floor or section admitted in. One nurse told my sister there was only ONE Doctor for the entire hospital. Think twice before coming here. The poor cleaning staff are more helpful than anything. They kick out immediate family. My sister didn't get situated in her room till about 7pm. Her husband came with food and to visit her the east Indian nurse said he can't stay long he has to leave and visiting hours were over and is till 8pm. She was the nurse overlooking her progress. She didn't attend to my sister unless she called for it. While staying overnight, the nurse told her how to unplug the iv machine to use the washroom. She had to help herself with each trip. The nurse didn't check up on her once throughout the night unless she called for it. The East indian nurse just sat at the desk on the computer the entire night. She could see the nurse from her room. The nurses, like I said, are terrible.  The younger nurses are awful, and the east Indian and Filipino nurses are beyond the worst nurse you could receive, not all nurses but majority, and you will know who they are by the way they treat people. The treatment is horrible. The nurses are terrible because they know they can get away with it, and no one can do anything about it as they are needed.

I would have firmly given zero star if there was option to do that. Beware of a fat lady named Roxanne who works at the triage in the hospital. My recent horrible experience with her made I had to visit this hospital because I was suffering from the worst infections in my mouth. When I tried to explain to her about my illness, she had no empathy towards me. She is extremely rude, reckless and even has animosity towards patients. She better go back to pre school to learn how to treat and behave towards patients in a welcoming manner. The hospital should fire her!!!

I was on vacation in Vancouver and ended up in emergency with my 14yo daughter. All tests - blood work, ECG, urine - all were taken promptly and results came back quickly. All staff, from admitting to attending doctor were very positive and helpful. I'm not saying that you have to be "cheerful" to be a good nurse, I just want to say that the positivity of the staff helped to keep all of us hurting, tired, and bored patients calm. The ONLY reason we had to wait so long (5 hours) was because there was only one doctor working in the emergency department! But, there's nothing anyone could have done differently to change that in the moment. Thanks to all involved.

Triage nurses know their stuff but don’t give off the most inviting/customer service experience when you first walk in (I know they’re not in the service industry but they are literally the first people you meet when you enter the ER). But once you get in, everyone working in the ER who treat you are absolutely lovely people. Very competent staff. Thank you for your service!

Very terrible service, people who works in this hospital, have no empathy for those who are in so much pain. You supposed to go there for an emergency, but you received lack of empathy from employees instead. On Thursday 24th 2021, my son and I got there, because my son wasn’t well. We got there 2pm and after 4hr a nurse called my son going inside to see a Dr. My son was 4hrs suffering while nurses talking and laughing on the phone. Going on and off while people was waiting and waiting to be registered. Terrible service worse than a third world country. Too bad I can’t upload the videos on here.

The receptionists are so rude idk why they still work there. They don't care about people and never show empathy. Even a robot could do a better job talking to people than them. They never have space and always have atleast 6 hour wait time for emergency. Even if you have to do another test at this hospital, you have to wait months and sometimes they forget unless you call them. Don't go here. Worst Hospital EVER with HORRIBLE staff

Long hours emergency room wait. If a patient had emergency heart problems they probably be dead at the waiting room. Some nurses are nice but some are awful. After wait for nearly 4 hours i was called once and then the emergency room door close when I walked over i was told to sit and continue to wait. May be privatized healthcare services would be something to think about in the near future.

I visited Burany Hospital's Emergency Department on March 6th at 12:45, expecting prompt and efficient care as is typical for urgent medical needs. Unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. I was met with an astonishing lack of assistance, with no one available at Triage to help guide patients or assess their needs. The waiting area was crowded, with a long line of patients equally confused and in need of immediate attention. The very essence of an emergency service is to provide fast, responsive care to those in dire need. It was disheartening to see such a disregard for patient urgency at Burany Hospital. Waiting for over an hour without any form of initial assessment not only exacerbates patient distress but also questions the hospital's commitment to emergency healthcare. I hope this feedback prompts Burany Hospital to reevaluate and improve its emergency department's operations and staffing. Patients deserve better, especially in situations where every second counts.

We went to the ER for probable appendicitis. Took over 10hrs to get assigned a bed and scheduled for surgery after a CT and then ultrasound. The doctor we were assigned went MIA after the ultrasound and it took hours before they reassigned us to a new one to get the scan results. Other than the doctor ditching us without handing off properly, all the nurses and doctors were very nice and helpful in providing what comfort they could while we waited. Especially with the chaotic environment due to the construction, I appreciate everything that was done for us. After getting into a bed, most nurses were very helpful along the recovery period as well. Big downside on that part was no semi private rooms and they even had to move us out of the room for a bit once due to some maintenance. Hopefully there will be more rooms when the construction is done, and we don't blame anyone there for the situation, appreciate all the hard working people here.

Had my second baby here. Both times I had nurses that were surprisingly very irritable and lacking compassion...very burnt out. The most recent experience I had with my second baby...one of the nurses was aggressive with me verbally and physically during my labour to the point that it stood out in my memory when thinking about the labour and birth of my baby. I even asked my partner about it when trying to process the experience and he agreed this nurse was pretty rough with me. Didn't get the chance to get her name but I was quite disappointed with the care I received from her. Being in labour and in pain and giving birth and spending those first nights at the hospital is a tender experience for mom and I understand as a healthcare worker myself that it can be a stressful time when a patient is in pain and things are chaotic but that is why a specialty such as L&D should be staffed with nurses that can provide at least a minimum amount of compassion and patience...or at least fake it.

Why was my mom send to Fellburn 2 days before her doctor assessment? There's no phone here for contact with relatives. We know speaking to relatives and contacts is important for well being. She's just ignored and left in the bed. She may be 100 bur she's still alive with a brain. She was up with therapy and a phone at Bby hospital.

I went here in 2022 , the Indian girl in the admission is such a shame to the entire hospital community and she utters gutter when she speaks disgustingly with the patients. I don’t owe you anything ok so better keep that retarded eyes off my face 🤣

I wish i could give zero stars, this hospital is extremely understaffed and the staff are rude and condescending. Wait times are horrible in emergency and the equipment is outdated. I remember one of the nurses taking my vitals in triage yanked my arm and was aggressive, like what kind of nurse are you? You shouldn’t be in the profession if you lack empathy and not gentle.

Don’t come here unless you think you may die, are dying, or on the verge of death. My friend broke his nose and he had to wait 5 hours to see a doctor, another hour for an x-ray, and 2 more for the doctor to tell him to come back in a week to get it realigned. This hospital is notorious for its long and drawn out wait times. Would not recommend to anyone.

My mom just had an operation here last week .. she had a terrible experience from those vary unprofessional nurses .. they weren't attending to her properly and the whole time she was there her buzzer button wasn't plugged in . She was wondering why none of the nurses came when she would press the button . Her doctor had to get mad at the nurses for another patient cause they weren't paying attention to them . She felt like a inconvenience to them , we are First Nation . This racial discrimination needs to stop in our health care system, if you can't treat others the way you want to be treated then DONT BE A NURSE! Zero Stars to the nurses that were supposed to take good care of my Mother ! And when she was waiting for her operation she kept getting bumped even by people that weren't in as much pain as her , she wasn't allowed to eat or drink till her operation and she had to get mad and ask when it's her turn. When the doctor finally got to see her he said she was severely dehydrated so they had to hook her up to the IV right away!🤬

Delivered my first baby at Burnaby Hospital earlier this month. My encounter with emergency was lousy. My water had broken and I visibly needed to be moved to labor and delivery right away, however the girl registering me took her own time taking down my details from my husband without so much as offering to have someone else wheel me up! The team of nurses at both labor & delivery as well as maternity, on the other hand, were AMAZING! They were clearly understaffed, but the nurses never let it show in their interactions with us. They were all super kind, approachable, warm and knowledgeable. I had an emergency c section and my doctor - Dr. Mckercher - was PHENOMENAL. She truly cared about what I wanted and how I felt and played a huge part in bringing my son safely into this world. All in all I was very lucky to have this team at Burnaby hospital!

I’m a 25 y/o male with Alcohol Use Disorder. I struggled on a stretcher in emergency, convulsing and severe muscle spasms while undergoing early withdrawal. My paramedics, Nurses and Doctors were exceptionally good. While hallucinating over the next 10 days, I recieved the kindest nurse care I’ve ever seen. I get very confused/try and run /hallucinating when I go through severe withdrawal. Amazing Social worker as well. Heading into treatment again soon. I didn’t feel lonely. Burnaby Gen, y’all got it down. But god damn get rid of the rice pudding on the breakfast tray. 😉

It was our first time in the emergency room so we weren't sure what to expect, but I'd consider it pretty positive. All of the staff were very helpful and made sure my mom got the treatment she needed. The care may not have been the fastest, but considering how busy it was with the limited amount of staff and space, I have no complaints. Thanks to all the doctors, nurses, and staff for their efforts. Special thanks to one of the overnight nurses (had an accent with cool colorful crocs) who cared for my mom and managed to find a bed for her to sleep in while she was on fluids. Initially she seemed a bit stern, but she was very straightforward and caring which I greatly appreciated.

Hospitals only get bad reviews as bad experiences stand out. So I just wanted to show some appreciation. It was my 1st time at a hospital and had an appointment for Echo Cardiogram and I was called at perfect timing and was done very quickly. The technician was very nice too. Amazing work.

Baby’s Best Chance? Burnaby Hospital. We had a fantastic experience during the birth of our baby last week after being diverted from Surrey. There were many nurses attending to us, and friendly, knowledgeable doctors too. We had a lot of space, privacy when wanted, and continuous health checks that were so very reassuring. During the birth everyone was cheering us on. The room was filled with energy, including from 3 student doctors and nurses. The nurses were thorough and demonstrated tons of baby care tips along the way once baby was born. Parking and navigating the hospital was also a breeze. Everyone seemed very on top of things, and energetic at all hours of the night. Meals were tasty too! I appreciated how thorough everyone was.

The doctors, nurses and staff from the B3, the Emergency room, the community outpatient units are caring even though they were busy all the times. They gave exceptional services to save the lives. Special thanks to three doctors from the emergency room, two doctors from the internal medicine department, Dr. Lee from B3, Dr. Peter from Infectious Disease department and all nurses who took care of me with kindness and professionalism. Thank you ALL.

Overall I’ve had a great experience at the hospital for my wife. But unfortunately we currently have a doctor overseeing her welfare that is blunt, arrogant with so much attitude. Fortunately his rotation is over by the weekend. He definitely could use some sensitivity training . Why don’t the doctors at BH where masks?

This 1 star is for the nurse? aid? who saw me in emergency when I went in for a sliver in my hand 2 days ago. Not the emergency doctor and nurse that dressed the finger after. The sliver was stuck in my finger deep and right against the knuckle and I am right handed - no way I could get it out with my left hand. The nurse barked "did you try the credit card method?" I said no, I don't know what that is. She said "Well if you looked on Youtube, you would know." Guess what, the emergency doctor was NOT able to simply use a credit card to get it out. She tried tweezers and still DIDN'T work. At the end she had to freeze my finger with a needle and use a scalpel to cut it up. It was bleeding then all over the place and now my finger has a big dressing on it - even the nurse that wrapped it said blood was gushing out probably because it was close to the capillaries. DID THE FIRST NURSE TRULY WANT ME TO REFER TO DR. GOOGLE WHEN THE EMERGENCY DOCTOR COULD NOT GET IT OUT? Afterward when I was leaving, that same nurse saw me wandering trying to find the exit and said, "Where are you going?" I said, "I am leaving." She said, "Leaving where?!" Literally, I had to tell her I am leaving the hospital. Then she barks at me to be aware of the cab when it comes. Hmm, I've been using Yellow Cab for 50 years - they call if you are not at the door honey - which is exactly what happened. She said "They will leave" if I am not outside waiting. Not my experience ever. You could tell her eyes were rolling inside her head condescendingly the entire time. This lack of respect would not be acceptable if I didn't think she was definitely unaware of her own burnout. Hopefully this review makes her understand that if she needs a mental health break, she should get one. By the way, if she thinks that I am somehow mentally deficient, even MORE reason not to treat my mental faculties as less than hers so she can feel her own ego elevated as a desperate defence mechanism against professional demands that are overwhelming her. 5 stars goes to the emergency doctor - sorry don't remember her name.

Hospitalized me by force and against the law (without first doctor’s assessment) in 2019 under the mental health act. Doctors claim that I am mentally ill (schizophrenia, psychosis and OCD). They used these misdiagnosis to abuse me.

I'm truly thankful for Jane and the other nurses who work in the Surgical Day Care unit. They are all so kind, helpful, and attentive. I was really anxious before my surgery and one of the nurses helped me stay calm before the procedure. Also, Dr Salim Lalani is the best surgeon on the planet! If you have a surgery coming up, don't worry. The medical professionals here are top-notch :) It also makes me proud to see so many immigrants and people of color making a positive impact on the Canadian healthcare system.

Slow triage nurses, only 2 available and often only 1. Waiting hours for results for my Mom who had a serious fall. Dont know where the staff went, been here since 6.30pm it is now almost 11pm and tests arent done yet and mom is complaining of increasing pain. Some doctors are super nice as are some nurses- some. Not all. Vefy unorganized, nobody knows where any of the staff has gone. Do not come to this hospital unless its extremely dire.

I've been spending quite a deal of time at Burnaby Hospital for Iron infusions, blood transfusions, and recently for emergency surgery. No words can describe how lucky i am to have had such amazing care and compassion from the nurses at this hospital. The Outpatient lab has some of the most amazing employees. I've been in 5 times now for iron infusions and am terrified of needles. They know this and go out of their way to make sure i am comfortable during the entire procedure. Thank you all!!!

Had an MRI done at Burnaby General on July 29th at 05:45 a.m. The two ladies working in the MRI department were great! Very friendly, explained what was going to happen and made the experience pleasant. I got there a little ahead of schedule and had my MRI done shortly after the appointment was due to start which was nice. I asked a question about the MRI machine once it was done and the technician was more than happy to provide details on how it worked. This has been the best experience I've encountered with any type of MRI/X-ray requirement. Thanks!

I've had to stop by this hospital a number of times this last year for different types of imaging, and subsequent surgery. Other than one stop in emergency, every visit was pleasant. Its an old hospital, but the staff really do their best to work around it. I felt very fortunate to have such a great team of professionals looking after me. To the staff at Burnaby hospital; all your great work is appreciated!

I couldn't be more thankful for this hospital and the service I have received there for the past 13 years that I lived in South Burnaby. My 2 kids were delivered there and service was exceptional and recently my daughter had an incident in which we had to call emergency services and they cared for my daughter a great deal. Thank you.

After losing our way (Because of poor directions at your main door) to my appt. with the Optimization Clinic, we were met at the Emergency by an extremely kind and helpful staff member, at 3pm,. Dec. 11th. I did not get her name, but she confirmed where we were to go, got wheelchair for my husband and helped him in it, provided us with fresh masks and good directions to the Optimization Clinic. I would like to commend her for her assistance. I would like to mention that anyone not familiar with the Hospital would not know where the Levl Entrance is. Directions or a small map would be more helpful than just, "Closed, use Level 1 Entrance).

I mean it's a hospital, it's not going to be fun. I was in the ER for two days, and admitted for 6. You have to wait in the ER, the food was eh, they're understaffed and I'm sure everyone had Covid. However they provided medical treatment and kept me from declining. I know people have complaints but at the same time it's a hospital, the staff there aren't providing customer service, they're there to provide medical treatment.

This Hospital is the 2nd Hospital I went to other than a Vancouver Hospital that I was just born from. So I can only remember about this Hospital since I wasn't old enough to remember the other one. So then...I always had a scary image about Hospitals in general(due to TV shows) before coming to this, but this Burnaby Hospital gave me a nice image about Hospitals in general now. It wasn't scary at all. Nurses were really kind and helpful. I'm one of those "shameful" adults who still can't swallow pills and the nurse didn't judge me at all(at least not on the outside where I can see their face expression). She told me she could use a pill crusher and asked me if I wanted some Apple sauce with it, that made me feel very comfortable and at ease. :)

I went to the lab in February 2022; a woman with Asian features took my blood work ; her name starts with letter K. She was very careless, unable to take my blood work correctly; she finally got the blood leaving with bruises Another issue: The accounts receivable NEVER ANSWER Their phones; They use covid as excuse that they are busy; this hospital has gone downhill; The washrooms are dirty; the chairs are in the waiting area in the emergency barely have enough space to keep us from distance; the triage in the emergency is inefficient; I brought my husband there who has a fever last month; we waited for 3 hours and still did not get called; we went home with his 40 degrees fever without help from the hospital. The nurses gossip about the doctors. If they don't like the doctor they schedule his surgery not in accordance to priority; he waits because he is a terrible, mean doctor. The wash rooms in the recovery rooms are so dirty with stains in the toilet bowls; the cataract surgery preparation room has only one washroom also dirty

Very well run Hospital. Efficient Emergency Physician who put my Dislocated Shoulder back together without further pain and discomfort. If you have to remain in the Hospital for a stay , you will find all the nurses, doctors, physio, social work and support staff are knowledgeable, kind and efficient. The food is also varied , healthy and surprisingly tasty

Went couple of times due to emergency situation and was never disappointed. They did due diligence in triage, attending to my problem and an eventual meet with the doctor. The staff is helpful, doctors listen to your problems and give necessary advice and medical prescriptions as applicable. No complains about occasional wait times as someone may have a high priority urgent need than me. You need to be patient (pun intended). I visited the hospital at odd hours like 12am, 2am and never been disappointed with the medical attention that is required. Including a chest pain once which was attended to immediately. Thanks to the staff, nurses, doctors and everyone who works there.

The interest in this hospital was to remove me. Triage nurse was not assistiful at all When I was served they drew blood after was too hard for nurse. They sent in guy to give me pain killer, with a new trainee. It took him seven tries before doing that. First nurse came back to draw blood fourteen punctures now. After lab work doctor asked 3-4 questions while standing outside exam room, he never entered room said my blood work was ok I would be released. Not a word was said why I was in extreme pain. Next in came eviction nurse Heather, who kicked me out. I drove two minutes to a side street and fell asleep curled up in my car to sleep four four hours, it’s now five days, I’m sick as the day I went there and still no idea why I have huge stomach pains. Thanks Burnaby General.

I’ve been here a couple of times in the ER and overall I’ve had a good experience. Yes, the wait is long, but the Drs and nurses are amazing. Dr Allan and Dr Johar were very caring with me. They truly take time to diagnose the issues and provide good care. Kudos to the nurses as well, they are working around the clock helping everyone. Thank you all for your service!

The entire staff in this hospital does NOT care about their patients well being at all, and do their best to ignore you until you get discharged. Within the last 3 days, I've witnessed disgusting amounts of neglect aswell as childish, bullylike behavior from the nurses.. do not leave your elders here alone. They will not be treated well. Do not have your baby here, the hospital is under construction and you will be neglected and treated poorly. The PACU staff don't know how to take care of their patients needs and start to become snappy and very controlling which is unnecessary and nerve wracking when you're already in a vulnerable position. People just need answers, they will be asking questions about what's going on with them. Nurses need patience and to be understanding. This hospital lacks that immensely.

I called an ambulance and was sent to hospital yesterday. The service was professional. Luckily, I felt better again while I was waiting at the emergency room for a blood test so I signed the consent form to leave hospital. People at emergency room were waiting for over 5-6 hours but still can’t see a doctor. I completely understand the pressure frontline staff facing and the problem of understaffed. I hope the government will improve this situation and let people need urgent help get treated faster.

So bad attitude. I'm pregnant and last time I had a follow-up appointment with Dr. Marvin Lemke at 1:10pm but they made me wait over an hour. Today I have a follow-up appointment at 10:30am, but because I'm pregnant and have to catch the bus. I was only 10 minutes late but they said they wouldn't take me. It's unreasonable and unfair. I forgot to ask the name of the doctor who spoke on the phone with me. She has a lot of attitude and no respect for her patients. The hospital treats its staff very poorly and I feel insecure when using the service here
