Took a 4-day package consisting of a Business module and Barista course Level 1, 2, 3, 4. I appreciate knowledge and professionalism of the instructors, well-equipped facility and hands-on experience. Also, there was so much fun learning latte art and watching your classmates gaining new skills. Now I'm confident that I understand true value of coffee and professional baristas and I'm ready to share this value with other people.

Where do we begin...such an amazing experience!! As cafe owners, we wanted to further our knowledge and understanding of the coffee industry. This training course was jam packed with great information and hands on learning. These two days of training left us more knowledgeable and efficient than we were before. Greatly appreciated all that Les taught us. Les's expertise gave us the tools to create methods to train our team to attain an even higher level of efficiency, coffee quality and gave us a new level of understanding about both coffee culture and what it takes to be a great barista. This course exceeded our expectations. Would definitely recommend. :)

I used the Complete Barista Training Bundle as an intensive introduction to the culinary art of espresso. Hobby or Career, these are the courses to take. Definition of espresso, understanding and using the specialized equipment, steaming milk and latte art, properly cleaning the equipment. My instructor, Calvin, was very knowledgeable, thorough, and most importantly patient. So many details, so many myths. These courses gave me the facts to make to make truly delicious espresso and the information to correct it if it wasn't. I highly recommend the Canadian Barista Institute.

Les is incredibly patient & knowledgeable and is more then happy to answer any question you have. All four barista courses seamlessly flow into each other and the courses are structured in a very easy and logical way. We now know what good coffee is supposed to taste like, how to evaluate multiple coffees at a time and even learnt how to pour latte art with zero prior experience. Very thankful for we took these courses prior to opening up our shop, and highly recommend this program for anyone considering a future in the coffee world.

I took the Barista Levels 1 to 4 over one weekend. The classes were small with lots of opportunity to ask questions and practice. They were quick to respond to my initial enquiry and answered all my questions. I would recommend these courses if you want to learn more about coffee and how to prepare good espresso based drinks

The instructor was very knowledgeable and went in depth regarding the different waves of coffee in the industry. Also, before this course I never used an espresso machine. Mid way through the first day I was able to pour out my own espresso and create latte art. The course was very detailed and also gave you enough time to do everything on your own.

The 4 day intensive course was a great investment. I really enjoyed my time learning, tasting, and learning form the instructor at the Canadian Barista & Coffee Academy. The instructor was full of knowledge and was very patient and encouraging. Taking this course and creating a relationship the the Canadian Barista & Coffee Academy will be very beneficial and crucial to my future in specialty and 3rd wave coffee. I highly recommend anyone thinking of opening up a coffee shop or wanting to increase their knowledge of specialty coffee to take this course.

I took the Opening a Coffee Shop course and Barista trainings in April 2017. Our instructor (Les) was an infinite wealth of knowledge, with lots of real life experience and stories to enrich the curriculum. Plenty of hands-on time to practice the skills. I especially enjoyed the section on cupping/tasting. I might need to come back for more barista practice as I didn’t get past the basic heart (if I was lucky!) but I had a lot of fun practicing and pouring. I’d repeat the training and send future employees here for sure.

I appreciated how my instructor Les brought decades of industry experience into the classroom without pretense. His philosophy of teaching coffee and espresso cultivates an appreciation and approachability for the art and science of espresso and the general world of coffee, in an attempt to send better professionals into the world and elevate the industry as a whole. The lab in Vancouver allows valuable experience on commercial machines to learn the basics and Les and his co-instructors are very willing to answer questions. As a budding roaster, I was very glad to learn what I may and may not be doing correctly, and how it relates to the barista experience.

Thoroughly enjoyed the course, Les brought decades of experience to the conversation that otherwise could have taken years to learn the lessons of the coffee business. Well worth the price for anyone exploring opportunities in this exciting sector.

Great class I took barista level 1, loved the experience to learn and make the espresso and latte art. Since I was not well versed in the art and flavour of lattes this experience opened me up to try more coffee shops and enjoy the drink as a whole. Thank you Les!

The Coffee Roasting course at the Canadian Barista Institute challenged my assumptions and beliefs about roasting, changed the way I look at tasting / cuppings ,and ultimately improved the roasts I do on my Aillio Bullet. They’ve got a gas powered little drum roaster and a couple Aillio Bullets so there’s PLENTY of opportunity to get some roasts in. Ultimately, I was surprised at what I didn’t know / was getting wrong in some fundamental way, especially after over 100 roasts on my Bullet during the pandemic. I consider this course to represent a major milestone in my roasting and tasting evolution. Thank you Les!

I really liked Les Kuan's teaching style, the lecture was full of important information and practical exercises. It is a pity that there was not enough time for a more in-depth study of the material. The teachers are true experts in their field and coffee experts.

I had the great opportunity to take their roasting course, and it was really awesome. They really cared and took the time to make sure you understood what was being taught. They gave me confidence in my roasting and coffee abilities, which when I got home, I could see a measurable difference in how my coffee tasted, and in my skills. Thank you! cheers.

Having got to know the Canadian Barista Institute over the years I was humbled to take the 4 day to course, which prepared me for managing then-new bakery café last year during the pandemic. Soon after I took a leap to start my own adventure, Lumine Coffee. Again the barista institute followed through in their mentoring and consulting to see my vision through. I would be very happy to work with and support them more for the years to come. Edit: Recently, I have another chance to join and learn their roasting class for beginner! I have received a great amount of information from the class and felt that it is enough for me to get start and practice more on the topic of roasting great coffee!

I have ordered coffee literature from the Canadian Barista & Coffee Academy a few times now. I initially came across them because I was searching for some of the modern-day "classics" on roasting, as a home roaster seeking to learn more, but was having a lot of difficulty finding them. Then, lo and behold, I found all the books I was looking for in one spot! I am very pleased to have done business with them. The service has been great. Everyone I spoke with very was been friendly. The books I received were delivered quickly, and extra care was taken with the packaging so the books would arrive in pristine condition and there was even personalized note, both of which are little touches I greatly appreciate. The split-payment option, too, is a great additional feature. It allowed me to buy a few things at once I was interested in, but without incurring the upfront cost, which really made it a no-brainer to buy and dive in. I would highly recommend them if you want any of the literature they have on offer!

We attended classes in Vancouver. Registering was easy. They even recommended a great hotel for our stay! I loved that the course was more detailed that what I could have just found on You-Tube. Watching online is not the same experience as actually having an instructor show you the consistency of the milk (correcting your attempts) and showing you how to finely manipulate the grind and timing to find the sweet spot of different coffee beans and different roasts. Tasting is believing! Thanks for bringing our hand-crafted beverages to the top! Dara's Luxury Decor and Coffee Bar (Stony Plain, Alberta)

The Canadian Barista Academy was a very good experience for me. It was two days, but I was interested in business, so I was able to learn about business as well. Also, although my English is not good, the teacher's English was easy to understand. I wanted to continue learning about coffee after taking this course.

The instructors just tell it like it. It's like a master's or PhD dissertation, they don't hold back and make you confront your assumptions. I soon realized that I didn't know how to pick a location, I didn't know how to decide if rent was too high, had no idea how to forecast sales. I also had to confront the reality that despite not knowing anything about making coffee I was willing to make the decision to drop 20k on a machine I did know how to use. I also found out that learning to make coffee isn't enough. That's the same as thinking that learning how to cook a steak makes you ready to open a restaurant. And finally I found out I did not know how to taste coffee! Take this business course because you don't know what you don't know. Now I know what I have to work on, and will stop trying to figure things out when there are people who know the answers.

I took the 4 days bundle course first week of June 2021 and it was a great experience! Jamie, Les and Mario were all very helpful and insightful. Without taking the course I would have no idea how to start ad run a 3rd wave coffee shop. The course gave me a lot insights and helped me set my goal much easier. Now I have a clear picture what my next steps should be. I will definitely apply everything I have learned to work towards my goal. Thanks so much Canadian Barista & Coffee Academy for your help!!! *I have attached a pic of a layered heart I did the next day after I finished the course which I could never do without taking the course.

I took the Level 1 Roasting course with Les and Calvin. I highly recommend the course if you are looking to get into coffee roasting. I’ve waited to post a review until I had a chance to get back home and fire up my new 500 g sample roaster. The lessons learned in the course gave me the confidence and skills that I needed to fire up the new roaster, produce good coffee and cup the results. Still have a long way to go but both Les and Calvin got me started in a great direction. Thanks guys!

I took roasting level 1 and have to say this course is absolutely worth taking. I had an incredible time learning new roasting skills and knowledge about the coffee industry, as well as learning the importance of cupping. Both Calvin and Les have an incredible and extensive amount of knowledge and passion behind their material and teachings. I can't recommend this course enough. I am very excited to start roasting on my own. Thanks again!

This course was a game changer in helping us grow our mobile cafe, the material was all hands on learning, and by the end of it I was much more confident in my skills and I feel that this course gave me way more knowledge about the world of coffee with less time and less money than the other kinds of coffee courses that are being offered. The best part, the instructors are with you for the long run in advice and training, not just for your days in the classroom. We are much more successful in our business, Tostana Cafe, than we were prior to taking the course.

It was a great experience attending the Barista Level 1-4 and Business Course. Our Instructor Calvin was very knowledgable and helpful, you will not feel intimidated especially for beginners. It was good that it was a small group class you get to have more time to practice and learn more about coffee.
