Big collections, much bigger exhibition than expected. Loved the whales exhibition, favorite part of the museum. Other than that, lots of really... realistic nature scenes (bloody). The birds part had a bad smell. The real nightmare wasn't the exhibition of Dante's Hell. It was the aquarium. Tank too small, and some fishes had... was it tumors ? I don't know, but they didn't look fine. And a tank had a crack where there was a TISSUE to stop the water from coming out. Is it the fishes who did the crack to try to get out ? Damn, that would explain the wounds, maybe it isn't tumors after all. Anyway, not the best natural museum I have been to, but it is kinda fun to visit, a morbid fun though, oppressing. Avoid the aquarium (or save the fishes, but do something)

Went to the museum this afternoon. The conditions for the fishes and turtles in the aquarium are hard to watch. The basins are often small and sometimes crowded, leaving little space for the animals to swim around. I watched a turtle looking desperately for a way out, without success. It was heartbreaking. Many fishes are just static with empty eyes. They deserve better. Taking care of these animals is a privilege and a duty. Something needs to be done about it. These are not normal conditions for any living being. Please.

SPECTACULAR Museum!!!! You think you will get bored? Not a change, this is not your regular museum. Aquarium with marvelous fishes, enormous exhibitions, incredibly well done dinosaurs, trompe l'oeil representations, inside an enormous building. We also could see the temporary exhibition about myth charachters ( incredibly well done, like having your life-size action figure). We Are speechless.

Truly a place that everyone should visit! Just upon hopping off the bus, you can already see the beauty of the small town of Calci given its breathtaking view of the mountains. About 5 minutes of walking, you'll reach the Natural History Museum and you'll be amazed by how nice the place is. The admission ticket is free for students of University of Pisa and I believe very minimal costs for those who are not. We started at around 3 pm and we finished at around 7:30 pm so please make sure to allot time to visit this museum. They have lots of collections from minerals, animals, even an additional exhibit (when I visited it was Mythical Creatures) and they also have an acquarium. For a free ticket, this museum is very much worth it. Exceeded my expectations! The staff are really friendly and you can get to have a picnic or just relax on the grass area in front of the museum. Vending machines are also present where you can buy water, softdrinks, snacks and coffee just to make sure you'll have a worthwhile stay. All in all, must visit and we should support this museum.

Loved it: the location, the decadent and yet looked after exhibition rooms, the lovely aquarium, bones and all (the rest). Go and enjoy

One of the neatest, most educative and visitor-friendly museums i have ever been to. We visited the exhibitions with 2 little girls and they enjoyed it as much as we did..

The complex includes a monastery and a museum and an aquarium. It was curated very thoughtfully and with a lot of creativity. I really recommend visiting if you are close-by. The ticket is valid for a whole day so you can re-enter as well. The staff is very friendly.

The Natural History Museum is so beautiful. The collection of animal species is incredible. It has numerous terrestrial and maritime species. The construction is also unique and really beautiful. Is close to the monastery.

Beautiful building, bit of a morbid place to visit but very interesting especially if you're interested in worldly animals. Saw many animals I've never seen in my life. Very well taxidermied so not as bad as if they were badly done.

This museum is absolutely fantastic! First - the building, which is an old Carthusian monastery from XIV century, full of beautiful interiors. Second - the museum itself, with thousands of exhibits and beautiful (although prepared) animals. Third - aquarium with some very rare fish to admire. You need to spend at least few hours there, but will not be disappointed! Highly recommended.

Unique location. Some pieces are old and dusty but the spaces are the real attraction.

Nice play to visit especially with kids. Tickets are reasonable and the gift shop has great collections of small souvenirs.

Excellent day out. Worth paying a little extra to see both the aquarium and the museum. Note there are lockers available in the gift shop which I only saw as I was leaving! I spent 5 hours here and didn't see everything there was to see. If using public transport just be wary of the last bus as the bus is infrequent and the final service to Pisa is quite early!

The venue is amazing but I don't think the Acuarium is good enough to host those fish, they're still animals with needs, at least they should be kept in tanks instead of tiny acariums for some of those large fish, they can't barely move around. I left that place sad.

Fab museum but well hidden! Google maps takes you down a dead end road and there is a small sign for the car park up a dirt track (you really think you are in the wrong place!) I've never seen so many animal specimens in one place. Great few hours.

Spectacular Charterhouse worth visiting for its architectural beauty but also for its very rich and well presented natural history museum. A highly recommend visiting it.

Loved it, lots of taxidermy. Only reason I have not given it five stars is because the enclosures in the aquarium were too small for the animals and they looked under stimulated.

This museum is Outstanding! The history alone is what puts it in a class of its own. The displays are up close and english friendly. The building is absolutely entertaining to visit. I have toured museums in Italy, The States, Canada, S. Korea and Japan, this jewel stole my heart.

The museum was very good, with a huge number of exhibits. Our children spent the entire visit running from place to place, totally excited to see each new thing. They especially liked the minerals and the aquarium. In addition, the views of the surrounding mountains from the exhibit of whale skeletons are amazing.
