We stayed in the Mt Barney Lodge campground and absolutley loved it! Being out of phone range was amazing as it allowed us to fully engage in our surroundings, and we made the most of every minute! The staff were awesome here, helping us pick which trails and mountains to climb as it was sooooo hot when we went. Would come back in a heart beat. Best weekend away spot by far!!

The perfect location if you are going for a hike in Mt Barney. It is just right beside the Mt Barney. Literally 20mins walking distance. And there is a very clear signboard there showing the lodge. The camp site is well maintained. They claimed they are the best camp site in qld and it is one of the best I experienced so far. The staff is very well knowledge about the surrounding so don't feel shy to ask for anything Drinkable tap water is around the camp site. Fireworks on sales. Overall it is a very well maintained camp site. It is good.

A great location with activities for the children. Shaun was awesome with them. Facilities were clean and the location was great. No internet access which was a good thing. Can stay at the huts, they also had camping available. Only issue was the oven didn’t work. Highly recommend

a great camping spot if your planning on climbing Barney, big fire rings, decent facilities and the firewood they sell is all ironbark which is excellent. Will be back!

We stayed here to camp for 4 nights. Toilet and showers were clean and well maintained. The doors on the toilets is not suited for all as it's tight space and opens inwards, the group I was with says the same and reccomends swapping the doors to open outwards. We had a large group of 10 with a mix of children and adults. Close to open fields and lots of space for children to run. Quick walk down to the creek where you can rock hop and play in the running water. Walk to the bottom of Mt Barney and close to some amazing water holes. Lots of wildlife. There is minimal reception and minimal access to electricity which was great as we wanted a tech free time away, just ensure to keep this in mind when planning. We would go and stay again

Just finished camping for 4 nights (Wednesday - Saturday). This place is awesome and will feature on my "regular spots" list. When I go bush camping I go to get away from the noise and disturbance of normal life. I don’t want to hear other people’s music or loud parting into the night. Mr Barney Lodge meets my criteria. This camping spot is quiet and peaceful. During the day there were some families with kids that made noise that you would expect from families with kids. It was the noise of kids having fun “hey look at the big goanna…” - no issue here. However when the sun went down, the whole campsite went silent. Sitting round the campfire was bliss, you could hear the stream running and all the insects. The campsites are big with a fire pit - mine got a good work out! Plenty of space to spread out. No power, but drinking water taps round the campground - I could fill my jerry can and then pump into the camper. No reception (even Telstra), there are a couple of sites that lend themselves to having Starlink - clearview of the sky. The toilet block was adequate, they appear to be building a new one, but the one they have now is fine - clean and tidy. Staff are friendly and leave you alone, although I did get asked to help move some cows that had got into the campsite - bit of excitement for the day! So if you want peace and quiet, a place to get back to nature, excellent bush walks, a clear water stream to sit by and have a drink and contemplate life - Mt Barney is the perfect place. I would encourage future campers to maintain the peacefulness of this “in nature” camping stop.

There is nothing like waking up, at the base of Mt Barney to start your day right. Hot showers, fresh drinking water, running creek, great staff with knowledge of local walks.

The lower portals (3hr return) was the best recommendation for us, as we only had 2 nights to enjoy this amazing area. The bush kids activity was such a great inclusion!

LOVE this place so much! We stayed in Henry's Hut which is brilliant (see pics). Very cosy with all you need, and a log burner for winter. Super well kitted out kitchen, with some lovely little extras. A comfy bed and lovely verandah at the front. The hut is right next to the shower and toilet block, which was no problem, as even on a busy long weekend we never once had to wait for a shower or toilet. The whole ecotourism approach of the lodge is really fantastic, and inspirational. All food scraps are collected and composted, everything is recycled where possible, and food is sourced locally. There are some great walks nearby, and a lovely creek runs right along the front of the lodge with several great water holes in it which are a short walk from the lodge. We met host Tracey who is just lovely, and all the staff are friendly. It was a long weekend but the camping area still had plenty of space for everyone, as the lodge limits numbers so it's never crowded which is a great approach. The toilet and shower block seemed just fine with the numbers. The grounds of the lodge are lovely with some great views of Mount Barney and other hills and land. There are also two lovely old homesteads which you can stay in too. We just loved it and will definitely be back! :-)

Best place to be off-grid and relax. It's never crowded and you can enjoy nature, wildlife, trails, and a drink by the campfire. We keep going back 💚
