Cuc Gach Quan Restaurant

😐 Good food, small portions, kinda expensive price. Service is not up to standard vs price. We tried soft shell crab signature, tofu signature with lemongrass shreds, squid, stir fried morning glory. With plain white rice. All dishes are cooked well and delicious. Abt 1mil dong for 4 pax. So at 250k... People often mention restaurant, Vietnamese, good, menu, service, dishes, fried, great, soft, order,

all the dishes tasted decent but the fried rice dishes were just okay. none of the dishes are worth the $$$ prices, though. because the portions are soooo little. this place is for tourists who wants to try a little bit of everything and willing to pay tourist prices.

The only time I could get local food ! So glad to be able to dine at this unconventional restaurant. It has several levels ( 3 floors at least? Didn’t get to check it out) but the whole design of the restaurant is just so unique. I didn’t goggle much about this place, it was recommended by a friend . It felt like there was a rich history behind this restaurant. I’ll list down my favourite food, the crab spring rolls and soft soft crabs ! ( portions are very small so we order a couple more to share for 4 of us) We didn’t order much . there were 2 orders ( fried rice and morning glory) that took very long to come so we ended up cancelling it as we were too full from drinks and the fried food.

Food was amazing, host was helpful with recommendations because the menu is quite large and varied. Had morning glory, bamboo shrimp salad, garlic fried rice and clay pot pork belly and a few beers, only cost 750k. Highly recommend for a nicer dinner. Go a bit earlier, place fills in around 6:30-7pm. Restaurant was impeccably clean, even the washroom was sparkling.

Really really really good local food. Decently priced but likely expensive for local standards. Nonetheless, the quality was awesome, clean, and very interesting local spread! The green jelly desert is something I've never tried before, home-made with a leaf extract, refreshing and served with a sweet syrup. I also had a nice sour fish soup, pickles, stewed pork, soft shell crab, and a couple of plates of greens! Great dinner.

This is a tourist friendly restaurant serving Vietnamese food with a very nice cosy and instagram-worthy interior. The staff speaks English, so it's easy to communicate. As its menu suggested, we asked the waiter to recommend dishes and the food was all tasty and delicious. I particularly loved the fried spring rolls and Iced milk coffee.

Great ambiance, great location, great restaurant. The service is impeccable and the food is mouthwatering. If you're a fan of lemongrass and garlic, this place is a must-visit. The vegetables are fresh and bursting with flavor. The portion sizes are just right, making it definitely worth a visit.

Always satisfied whenever I visit Cuc Gach! Highly recommed for whom wanna try authentic homemade Vietnamese food. It’s already well-known restaurant but it still keeps same taste as before. One of my favorite Vietnamese places in HCMC. I’ve taken my friends or customers from other countries to Cuc Gach so far and they all were happy with food and atmosphere here.

We had a wonderful experience with this restaurant, great environment, exactly what we expected before coming here. Menu can be intimidating and I ain’t a very patient person so I just spoke to the waitress and told her what we want to try and she just gave us the recommendations, she’s super helpful and the dishes she recommended are absolutely delicious. Food here is very delicate too, for 4 of us we order 8 dishes. The bill was 56 USD including 2 bottles of Perrier and 1 cup of coffee. Would definitely come back here again and try more dishes!

Came here for a quick lunch since I was in the area. The layout when entering the restaurant is nice. I enjoyed the bun thit nuong, and the thit kho was okay although a little bit dry. The service was great. Overall, I had a good experience.

Excellent service, great design restaurant by an architecture owner. They got Michelin 2023 award, very satisfied with the service, ambiance and music. They brought you to the Vietnam kitchen feeling in the year 1980-1990 if I’m not mistaken. The price is not cheap but it’s really worth. Highly recommended!

The restaurant is situated on both side of the alley. It wasn’t clear which side we need to go to get seated but we eventually figured it out by popping into both. They have an extensive menu and serve pretty authentic Vietnamese food and is well visited by local families. Food is simple and looked better than it tastes. Ambience is nice and service was ok.

Located near Tan Dinh Ward, D1 among many restaurants with Michelin stars and more. This place is where you go when you need authentic Vietnamese cuisine from the country side. Pros: - Fresh juice which you can choose to mix with sugar or honey - Decent taste with nice texture, fresh herbs - Ingredients seem fresh enough for the price - Steamed rice is aromatic, soft - Soft-shell crab is incredible - Atmosphere and decor are both really great, like visiting an ancient house in the country side - Lush-green trees and decoration Cons: - Big menu with many other things beside food, not at all straight forward. Personally, hard to order from - Waiters are sometimes negligent to customers’ calling - Outside space is not non-smoking area, so when exitinh I had to pass by some people smoking Recommendations: - Lemongrass tofu - Ambarella juice - Deep-fried spring rolls - Soft-shell crabs

We placed an order through Grab, but the food didn't resemble the photos at all. The dish I ordered was supposed to come with spring rolls, but they were missing. The meat was tough to chew, and the fried baby squid we ordered turned out to be soggy calamari. Anyway, I shouldn't have been swayed by the Michelin rating. It was definitely not worth paying extra money for such below-average tasting food and service.

Service and atmosphere are very good. Sadly the taste of the most dishes where just OK and not realy worth the money. We did eat better at other places for half the money than here. The menue can be overwhelming until someone understands how the ordering works. The selection is good and every one should find something he/she likes. The staff is helpful with ordering if you get to confused, just ask for the recommendations. I would absolutely recommend the soft shell crabs and the mushrooms in a curry. Reservation before is highly recommended due to the limited space and the popularity.

Decided to pay the restaurant a visit after multiple recommendations from others. Fried tofu, spring rolls, soft shell crab and caramelised pork were all flavourful and well-cooked! Only downside is that portions are rather small. Otherwise, immaculate vibes and a beautiful environment to dine in.

A must try! If you’re looking for authentic Vietnamese, home cooked style meals - this is your go to place! They have both Vietnamese and English menus for your convenience. Service is friendly, quick and they’re very professional. Portions are small but perfect so you can get a variety of options without over ordering when sharing. This place will not disappoint!

Saw this restaurant being recommended on tiktok so we came down to try for dinner. Interior was very beautifully decorated. Menu was very overwhelming so we asked the servers for recommendation as suggested on the menu. They spoke English so it was easy to communicate as we were non locals. Food reminded us of home cooked food. Overall a hearty and enjoyable meals with a taste of Vietnam, would come back again to try other dishes!

We chose Cuc Gach Quan for the last meal of our Vietnam vacation. It was the Lunar New Year holiday and we understood that service might be slow due to staffing shortages. The setting is spectacular, an eclectic mix of new, old, garden, koi pond, art on multiple levels in an old house on an every cool quiet street. We were given a menu and then no one came back until we waved down servers and asked several times to be helped. We were left without food or drink for over an hour, failing to get the attention of the busy staff and not even able to get water. Eventually the food came and everything was fresh and delicious. However the salad never arrived and when we asked, it came out when we were finished with dinner. Despite enjoying the food and atmosphere, the lack of attention from staff ruined the evening.

I like the atmosphere of this restaurant. Not too simple nor excessive, right enough to be “in the place”. Good choice to enjoy Vietnamese cuisine

Not worth it. The place isn't even special. Too pricey for nothing. We went there as a big group. Each of us ordered our own set menu which is at least 1.1 million dong per person. We were expecting that each person will get one serving of each dish. But no, we got a bowl of what seems to be a small slice of fish full of bones in sauce to share between 6 of us as starter, one small bowl of salad, and two small servings of each dish that we ordered. Our bill was 6.5million dong for something that I can get for less than 1 million dong outside. We ordered "Vietnamese cherries" as dessert and they gave us a bowl of unripe fruits that were not even edible (very green and hard).

Good home style cooking restaurant in Ho Chi Minh. The place has an interesting design / architecture that’s apparently modeled after a traditional Vietnamese home that the owner grew up in. The menu is massive, like as thick as a novel. Recommend sampling multiple dishes per person. The deep fried tofu with egg was really soft and fluffy, and the braised caramelized pork was tender, but neither had a very strong flavor. The squid with tamarind sauce was tangy and flavorful. The fried rice with egg was super hearty, but again was kinda mild; lacking some flavor / seasoning. Overall none of the dishes blew us away or were super memorable or flavorful individually. But everything was well-prepared and had a great cohesive, mild, home-cooked, and hearty feel that went well with the ambience.

Thought this restaurant it would live up to its hype but in the end I thought it was just OK was a little bit disappointed when we were charged 130,000 Dong for just some additional herbs and vegetables that supposed to complement the pork. That said the setting of the restaurant was very nice, the upstairs door frames were very cute. and the stewed was not too bad.

We visited this restaurant twice and were pleased with our meals both times. The food was delicious, perfectly-seasoned and had wok-hei. The restaurant is housed within a villa that has seems as if time has stopped. Filled with Knick-knacks and photos from the yesteryears, it promises to take you back in time. The only thing that could be improved was the menu which could do with more pictures to make it more accessible.

I've eaten street food, I've eaten in top end restaurants and I've eaten everywhere in between in Ho Chi Minh and Cuc Gach Quan is easily the most enjoyable food experience I've had. The staff are friendly and the service is passable by international standards. Recommendations are on point and the food is exactly what you'd hope. Unpretentious and yet exceptional. Packed with flavor and covering the entire, broad spectrum of Vietnamese cuisine. The decor is rustic cool, shabby but stylish and the atmosphere matches perfectly, easy going and un rushed. It would be easy to pay double the price for something in a classier or more sophisticated joint... that wouldn't match the quality of food here by a long way. Don't miss out.

One of the best restaurants in Saigon. The quality of the food is something to behold, especially since the menu is vast—they do everything well. Our order: fried tofu w/ lemongrass (make sure to get their soy sauce w/ chilis), soft shell crab w/ salt and chili, stewed pork belly (thit kho), crab fried rolls, caramelized catfish (ca kho), morning glory salad, sauteed veggies. I’ll go there every time I come back to Saigon.

food was good, not great for the price. nice atmosphere with comfy seating and the menu was HUGE. i ordered the tofu with egg was good with the lemongrass/chili sauce. i also ordered a tofu mushroom soup this was very bland and tasted very fishy (i’m vegan so i wasn’t a fan) my boyfriend ordered garlic rice, bc they were out of the vegetable rice, also very bland and dry.

Lovely homestyle cooking, very flavourful and non-spicy. Located in a row of commercial shophouses, the place was overwhelmingly beautiful. Even the washroom had natural lemongrass scent. Good ambience and friendly staff who'd sit near us in case we'd require assistance during our meal. The menu was a tad thick, so much so that we had to ask for recommendations. We ordered whatever Huy suggested. Nice chap, spoke English well and had a broken little finger. Portions were just nice for 2. We came on the 1st night during our 5D4N stay in Sài Gòn. It was memorable. A pity that we didn't explore the 1st (indoor and outdoor) and 3rd level of the restaurant.

An incredibly authentic and uniquely Vietnamese restaurant that's reasonably priced. Something for everyone, good whole food available with numerous vegetarian/vegan options. The location does get packed on weekends and holidays without reservation. Beautifully decorated with plants everywhere create a peaceful atmosphere. English-speaking staff were helpful and service was friendly, although the food did arrive slowly and not at the same time (main entrees).

This much talked about place in Ho Chi Minh is indeed a really beautiful restaurant. The unique architecture and layout is also decorated with relics and warm lighting to give it an unforgettable ambience. I would give it a 6 star for design if I could. Food however, is not a biggie. They have an extensive menu which might make a difficult to decide but you can always ask for recommendations as most of the staff can speak English. Here's the truth, at least in my opinion. Food is rather mediocre. BBQ beef was too chewy, sign of overcooking. Fried rice too oily. The soup lacks in flavor. You can taste the freshness of ingredients but they just weren't cooked to their best. The braised fish was actually impressive but the rest were just borderline. Depending on what you order, expect to spend around 400k to 800k for a 2 person meal. Considering the fact that the pricing is 8 to 10 times what is cost to eat in the streets, it's this place is not exactly a place for hardcore food hunters. In summary, does this place comes recommended? Of course yes! This place looks spectacular, it's comfortable, service is applaudable and definitely the type of place to go check out if you're in the city.

  • 4/5 Shikha B. 4 years ago on Google
The restaurant is beautiful and service is kind. The food is ok, but nothing spectacular. We had much better food on the street for pennies on the dollar. Apparently the Obamas ate here, but so what? They've never claimed to be foodies. They had date night at the same exact restaurant for YEARS in Chicago - I certainly wouldn't take restaurant recs from them. This place is good for anyone looking for a nicer, fancier night out with still fair prices and decent food. Tofu was standout. Tamarind shrimp was too sweet. Pumpkin flower was bland and soggy. Coffee was great.

  • 3/5 Monalissa M. 4 years ago on Google
The only thing that I liked in the place is the ambience and the starfruit juice. All the rest is mediocre. There is nothing special about the food, nor the menu (except for making it fanciful to flip). They do not have a dip for the spring rolls and it was served with very little vegetables. I don't really recommend.

If I’m not wrong this is a Michelin recommended restaurant. This restaurant has proved its point and still holding it to standard. I’ve been here a few times thru the years and the food is right in the middle for everyone tastes. It’s just perfect in taste execution. If your Vietnamese it’s good enough to be proud of, and if your a foreigner then it’s probably going to be one of the best home style kind of cooking brought to a restaurant level.

  • 3/5 Minh T. 1 year ago on Google
Bad service by unhappy staff. They could learn to smile. We ordered a traditional popular lunch with a soup, a stir-fried vegetable, a fish soup and a lemongrass fried pork. The food was average okay, but nothing to wow about. An over-rated restaurant for tourists and snobs.

Really popular place with locals, large groups and tourists. They have two locations opposite each other which means lots of space. I loved the food here, everything cooked fresh and to perfection. Great for sharing in groups or as a couple. The service were a little unfriendly and not very attentive but nothing that wouldn’t stop me coming back again and again. Well worth it

Was recommended by a non-local friend staying in saigon to have dinner here. The place is located along a small street, the interior decor is very balinese feel with water fountain and wooden steps. The food apparently is very local according to my other local Vietnamese friend. It seems like these dishes are what the local Vietnamese would eat at home. Overall food was pretty good. The chicken salad is a must order.

Cuc Gach Restaurant was an outstanding dining experience. The old Vietnamese home theme created a cozy atmosphere, and the authentic home-cooked food was simply delicious. The staff was hospitable and helped us make delicious recommendations. It's an excellent place to enjoy traditional Vietnamese cuisine. Highly recommended!

Heard about the rave reviews for this place, was excited to check out the place. Arrived around 1pm and there wasn’t a crowd. Quickly got seated and ordered the food. Was really looking forward to it but the food were pretty bland. Pumpkin flower was pretty tasteless. The tofu was crunchy on the outside and soft inside but it doesn’t have much taste. Soft shell crab was okay but nothing special. Pork stew has better taste. Fried rice is also pretty tasteless. These meals came to be 1million dong (44usd), major rip off by Vietnamese standard. Overall it’s a tourist trap, I wouldn’t recommend this place.
