A Dazzling Christmas Eve at Notre Dame Cathedral of Saigon The Notre Dame Cathedral of Saigon stands as a mesmerizing testament to architectural brilliance and historical significance, and my recent visit on Christmas Eve only heightened its allure. The grandeur of this iconic landmark is truly a spectacle to behold, with its impressive façade and intricate details that showcase a blend of French colonial and Gothic architectural styles. The first thing that strikes you about Notre Dame Cathedral is its awe-inspiring architecture. The twin towers, reaching towards the heavens, are a symbol of the meticulous craftsmanship that went into building this masterpiece. The red bricks used in its construction add a warm and timeless charm to the exterior, creating a striking contrast against the modern backdrop of Ho Chi Minh City. What made my visit even more enchanting was the cathedral's transformation on Christmas Eve. The entire structure seemed to come alive with a radiant glow, thanks to the festive decorations and twinkling lights that adorned its exterior. The atmosphere was nothing short of magical, as locals and tourists alike gathered to witness the glittering spectacle that unfolded before us. As I stood in the presence of Notre Dame Cathedral on this special evening, I couldn't help but marvel at the harmonious blend of history and contemporary celebration. The cathedral's significance as a religious and cultural landmark was palpable, and the Christmas decorations added a touch of joy and festivity to the solemnity of the place. Inside the cathedral, the ambiance was serene, offering a respite from the bustling city outside. The play of light through the stained glass windows created a kaleidoscope of colors, casting a warm and inviting glow over the interior. It was a moment of reflection and appreciation for the rich history encapsulated within these sacred walls.

The Notre Dame Cathedral of Saigon is a mesmerizing testament to architectural brilliance and historical significance. Nestled in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, this landmark seamlessly combines French colonial charm with local cultural influences. The cathedral's iconic twin towers soar into the sky, creating a striking silhouette against the urban backdrop. The elaborate facade, adorned with intricate details, reflects the meticulous craftsmanship of its construction. Stepping inside, visitors are immersed in a world of vibrant stained glass and serene interiors, evoking a sense of spiritual tranquility. Beyond its religious importance, the cathedral stands as a living relic, narrating tales of Vietnam's past. In the midst of the bustling city, the Notre Dame Cathedral emerges as a timeless symbol of beauty and heritage, beckoning travelers to uncover its rich tapestry.

The Notre Dame Cathedral of Saigon, though undergoing renovation, maintains its majestic charm and spiritual significance. The construction work, a testament to preserving history, doesn't diminish the cathedral's allure. As the sun sets, the cathedral comes to life with vibrant lights, casting a warm and enchanting glow. This nightly transformation adds a touch of magic to the ongoing restoration, creating a captivating spectacle that brings joy and radiance to the heart of Saigon.

It's currently under restoration and renovation.. hence wouldn't be able to visit.. you can only see the exterior of the building from the outside.. Established by French colonists who initially named it the Church of Saigon, the cathedral was constructed between 1863 and 1880. The name Notre-Dame Cathedral has been used since 1959

Visit here on Christmas day, so we can’t enter the church unless we want to join the mass. The service in English was at 9 AM, so we are a bit late to arrive to join. The statue of Virgin Mary was very iconic and this church located in the central of the street, across the Saigon Post Office. Nearby there’s coffee shop also places to buy souvenirs.

When we got there is was closed for visitation and we were on a tight schedule so we walked around and about a bit. The space outside was covered with beautiful flowers and we went around clicking pictures in the church garden. Do ask around when they would be open for visitation as we missed the stained glass windows inside.

Under renovation so closed, a pity. Only the front is covered in scaffolding. Use the time to walk around it's exterior. This will give you its size and exterior grandeur. It is a very impressive building sitting in a very prominent site in the city. The ornate façade, intricate carvings, and towering spires were simply stunning. The stained glass windows, high ceilings, and altar adorned with flowers were a sight to behold. Despite the bustling city outside, Notre Dame Cathedral felt like an oasis of serenity. It was truly a magnificent place to visit and experience in Ho Chi Minh City.

Having been in Saigon for over 10 years, every time passing by here, I have always admired it. However, today I had a special opportunity to visit the interior and attend a ceremony and Christmas event. It is truly beautiful, blending modern architecture while still preserving the ancient charm over time.

Probably the most noteworthy monument in Saigon, built in 1880. It keeps its French style architecture of that time. Definitely a must visit during traveling around the city. Currently under renovation.

Must visit church in ho chi minh city, place was simply awesome and all are nearby locations only. No rush here always, better by walk if possible becoz everywhere parking fee was there along with entry ticket’s.

Renovation on progress through 2020. Visitation inside is restricted to worship. An the outside is shrouded in construction beams. It wasn't a time to enjoy the beauty of this edifice. The garden was being mulched. So, the only entertainment was the birds in odd colors.

It’s a good attraction and also on the opposite side of another great attraction that is saigon post office. There’s no fee to see it . You can take great pictures and adjacent to it is a place where there’s a lot of pigeons fed by tourists. You will find a lot of people praying there. Both the attractions have no fee and are close enough. These are also a must see attractions in Ho Chi Minh City.

We have been to HCMC many times and have visited this place on several occasions though not every time. It is one of the key landmarks in District 1. But in our recent visit, we have dropped by this place again as my cousins were visiting the city for the first time. It's nice but the cathedral is under renovation and could not see the cathedral building clearly. Masses were still being conducted. It was Sunday and the place was crowded with Parisers and visitors. It was drizzling then and so we cameby here after visiting the GPO opposite the road for a photostop. Still nice and serene with many flowers around.

A beautiful Cathederal in the heart of Saigon. The pictures are from December, 2023. It has been under renovations for about 6 years now and almost completely surrounded be scaffolding. It's still worth a visit especially during the Christmas 🎄 month of December. While you're there visit the historic post office on the other side of the street. There is so much history in this area.

Historic cathedral, and an iconic and building of Ho chi minh city. Beautiful French architecture, and there's a really clean and pretty park in front of the cathedral. As of August 2022, this building is still under renovation, and is almost completely surrounded by scaffolding. The renovation is going to last for a few more years, according to city officials.

In downtown Ho Chi Minh City, an important remnant of the French colonial period in Vietnam - the "Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception", most commonly known as "Notre-Dame Cathedral". It was built, between 1863 and 1880, by French Roman Catholics and was simply known as the "Church of Saigon". It is a neo-romanesque construction, with an all-red brick facade, two outstanding bell towers, six bronze bells and beautiful stained-glass windows. In 1959, a granite statue of Virgin Mary, depicted as "Our Lady of Peace", was brought from Italy and placed at "Paris Square", also known as "Notre-Dame Square", which is right in front of the ancient church. Immediately after, the "Church of Saigon" was designated as the city's Cathedral. It has been undergoing severe restoration works and has been closed to visitors for already a long time. Stroll along and try to imagine how beautiful it certainly is, a true landmark of the Roman Catholic presence in Southeast Asia. Enjoy! Read more

Notre Dame Cathedral is an amazing piece of colonial architecture. It’s proximity to the central post office is great so you can visit multiple attractions at the same time. Unfortunately, there’s some restoration work going on, hence the cathedral is closed off for public (hence the 4 stars). It’s especially magical during Christmas time where there are lots of Santa’s in front of it and many winter decorations.

Lovely architecture and an iconic place. I only got the chance to see the outside of the Cathedral as it was closed for renovations. It is in the middle of hustle and bustle of District 1. There are few more lovely attractions around, so schedule it wisely to save some time on the road and please don’t get hit by a scooter.

This place is more of a tourist attraction than place of worship. There are lots of tourist in the area and place is very crowded. It has a very beautiful interior and some parts are not available to explore. It is definitely a great place to hang around and enjoy the atmosphere. It is very close to the post office so you can visit both of them at the same time.

This Cathedral is worth a visit just to take pictures and enjoy the architect. We went for Sunday service and the very large cathedral was packed with hundreds of people. I was amazed with how efficient they served the eucharist to that many people. They offer services in English so check the times in advance if you need this!

Still under construction but accessible from the sidelines but a bit dangerous i guess. An architectural beauty as it is well maintained and updated. Easily to be spotted from the distance. Hope to be completed very soon by the next visit

I’m sure it would have been stunning, but unfortunately (and ironically) the front was covered in scaffolding when we visited mid-May.

Now that I saw it, Notre Dame Cathedral of Saigon is undergoing renovations on the entire front side, so the details of its structure cannot be seen, only its side part can be seen at this time (July 8, 2023).

NOTE: under renovation, front of church covered by scaffolding. It is a truly beautiful church closely mirroring the Notre-Dame de Paris. The history of the church is interesting with an understanding of the French Indochina movement and the culture it ultimately brought and created within Vietnam.

The front of the cathedral is in repair when i visit, but the other side is still awesome. There are pretty flower garden in the front, on the left is wide sidewalk and there are many birds! There also people who sell crunchy mango-ambarella/ataheitte apple and chilli salt nearby with reasonable price! On the right is the post office and book street. This location is a must when you visiting HCMC! (I actually already visit twice🤭). The station for bus tour is also here, but i didnot ride it.

Basilika notre dame Saigon or the Saigon Curch or Saigon catedral, is located in the heart of Ho chi Minh city, Vietnam. Built by France colonial and constructed in 1863-1880. You should visit this place when You in vietnam. 👍👍👍

it was closed for repairs when i visited and it wasn't written online or outside. I kept waiting to see if people went inside for the mass but ended giving up and leaving. Couldn't actually see lots of things from outside either

It's under maintenance. It would be a great looking church if there is no maintenance going on during my visit. Worth to take a photo, video or TikTok.
