Wow, a hidden gem in downtown St Louis. A very cool atmosphere. The company I work for hosted an event here and it was awesome. The staff is very friendly and professional. The food tasted very good. The downstairs has a very cool bar and hangout area. This is an awesome event venue. If you are looking for a place to host an event, check this place out.

Beautiful hidden gem. Requires password for entry. The host is a peculiar guy who is initially intimidating but then you realize that he is appropriately in character for the place’s vibe and it becomes amusing. Drinks are great, music is on point, and decor is beautiful. Highly recommended.

Hosted a birthday event here and wow was it absolutely perfect!! I’ve been wanting to go here for the longest time and I’m so glad I had my birthday party here. The staff was so easy to work with from the planning stages and throughout the party! The speakeasy bar was phenomenal as were the drinks. My guests had just as good of a time as I did! We can’t wait to go back!

It wasn't my favorite. The entry experience is interesting. I was in town on my own and wanted to hit up some local spots. I didn't know the password and someone else waiting outside let me in on the secret .. staff was friendly. The inside is decorated well... I liked the bar set up... I really just wasn't impressed with the drinks. When you enter you are given a table. It took me a moment/10+ minutes to figure out you need to go to the bar ... order...pay and then they bring the drinks out. I got the Five Alarm Jazz Drummer because I like a spicy drink...I wasn't really impressed ... I liked the Blueberry Sage French 75 more.

Living up to its name speakeasy is remanent of a time gone by. The name comes from the prohibition era referring to a underground illegal bar. Entry is obtained by ringing a door bell in a alley way and seems almost sinister yet exciting. With its Art Deco styling and intimate seating it takes you to a time when class mattered. They keep entry to a minimum and with seating being 4-6 feet apart it allows for a very intimate setting. There is a reason it’s on the top 10 list. (Don’t forget to obtain the password before you visit!)

The Thaxton Speakeasy is a unique and interesting place to visit for anyone who seeks a change of pace from the usual bar scene. This speakeasy is hidden away, accessible only through a secret entrance, adding to its allure and mystique. Once you're inside, you'll be transported back to the 1920s with its atmospheric lighting, vintage decor, and authentic speakeasy vibe. The specialty drinks are top-notch, with a focus on classic cocktails made with premium ingredients. From gin fizzes to old fashioneds, there's something for everyone. One of the standout features of the Thaxton Speakeasy is the friendly but stuffy staff. They are knowledgeable about the drinks and the history of speakeasies, and are more than happy to make recommendations based on your preferences. The best time to visit the Thaxton Speakeasy is on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night when it is open to the public and not privately booked. However, it is first come, first served, so it's best to arrive early to ensure you get a seat. Note that while there are some special events with live music, most nights there is no live music. Overall, the Thaxton Speakeasy is a unique and interesting destination for anyone who seeks an escape from the everyday. With its atmospheric decor, top-notch drinks, and friendly but stuffy staff, it's sure to provide a memorable and enjoyable experience for anyone who stops by.

Great old fashioned. The waitresses were lovely and the door man was fun to interact with. The atmosphere was excellent and intimate and I loved that they only allow a certain amount of people in at a time. It allows for a more enjoyable time.

I'm completely in LOVE with this place! As a seasoned bartender, to feel what it's like to go back in time during the prohibition era at the ONLY speakeasy in STL is an experience of a lifetime. The classic artisnal cocktail list was immaculately designed by one with a very well defined palate with balance and complexity. Staff was pleasant and wonderful as well as entertaining. This is the perfect spot to host a wedding reception or social event. I will definitely become a regular at this timeless treasure of a bar.

Just wow ! The set up, the atmosphere, the location, the vibes. We loved it here. The drink menu was exquisite ! If they had snacks and appetizers we definitely would’ve stayed longer (that’s probably why they don’t lol) I would love to go back.

Stumbled across this well-appointed, hidden spot just before New Year's weekend and went a couple of times. Beautiful details convey the period well. Have your password ready and banter a little with the doorman. Once seated, walk up to the bar to order. First cocktail was obviously for the crowds, but talk to the clever and accommodating staff: they'll make you something more interesting. Don't like cocktails (...I mean, why?) - they even have Montucky!

The Thaxton Speakeasy is a well kept secret of downtown St. Louis. Their cocktails are really well made and their beer selection is pretty good too. The bar staff is always a delight, and they add to the vibe of the whole experience. The Thaxton has a great mix of Art Deco and Art Nuevo décor that helps transport you back to the days of prohibition. Finding the speakeasy is the easy part, but you’ll need to snoop around on their social media to find out how to get the secret password of the week. This place makes for a great date night or a cool place to meet up with friends for a good cocktail.

Great low key place, very intimate seating. I feel it's more geared to smaller groups, which I think helps keep it not so crowded. Great vibe, music is pretty chill and fits the theme. Very clean and well maintained spot.

We threw an 140-person disco party as the welcome party for our wedding weekend. I started planning this event with Kimberly almost a year before the actual event.. and she was incredible. We rented out the 3 floors , got pizza's & cookies, had incredible staff on all 3 floors.. a dj.. a photographer.. it was simply the best. Could not recommend Kimberly or her team at the Thaxton enough -- the drinks were delicious, the space was beautiful and everyone was on time! + Kimberly response time is second to none. Thank you so much

I can’t say enough nice things about The Thaxton. This place is just B E A UTIFUL, from head to toe. All art deco and original art. We had our wedding and reception in the building. The ceremony was small, on their balcony/ mezzanine level overlooking the grand hall. And the reception followed on three floors complete with two bars. If you want a seamless, low stress timeline, this is the place. The owner, Kim, and the “groundskeeper,” Mad Dog, have such an attention to detail. They will help you with things you didn’t even take into consideration. And they will guide you every step of the way. 10 out of 10 would recommend to anyone!

I am not sure why this would get anything less than a five star rating. Very unique, extremely great atmosphere, great service. I would highly recommend. I was concerned about jeans, but it was fine. Recommend dressing up a little, it adds to the atmosphere, but not required. If your thinking about it, try it.
