Very filling vegetarian dish - Koshary. Only one restroom so expect to queue. No wifi available. A popular cafe as was written in some travel guide book.

Koshari is the most popular meal among Egyptians. Simple in its ingredients, but rich in nutritional value, it includes pasta, rice, lentils, and chickpeas, caramelized onion, seasoned with hot tomato sauce and a variety of flavorful spices, especially hot pepper. Abu Tareq Restaurant, located in the heart of Cairo, provides a fitting setting to enjoy this traditional dish in a folkloric atmosphere, accompanied by friendly and attentive service staff. Start with a dish of spicy tomato pickles. In this beloved establishment, the vibrant spirit of Egyptian humor reigns supreme.

One of the best Koshari places in Cairo, the restaurant is spacious with 4 packed floors. Waiters are attentive and running around all the time to serve everyone. Food was great as usual and would love to go back again.

Overall a pretty good in and out experience. I guess being white in Egypt comes with people incessantly asking you for money... so be it but I could have done without it at dinner. A very nice customer next to us told us to check the price we were being charged ( so thankful for him) so any foreigner be sure to check as well. We ended up paying 30 EP for ours and I don’t know if that was correct or not. Anyway, this unexpected mixture of goodness was just that and it is a hardy and tasty meal I recommend to anyone needed a filling bite. Sauce, starches, grains, garlic, spice, acidity, all mixed together for a solid meal. Recommend for the experience not for the ambiance.

One of the restaurants that I gave second chance, and I got surprised and happy with the second experience.. Very tasty Koshary 👌🏼. Loved the packing much, as I took it away. Everything was so perfect, the spicy sauce was awesome and tasty, also ElDakka 👌🏼. The restaurant few years ago was clean and service was good, but I didn’t liked the food then. And it caused me stomach pain. But now very different. Thank you 🙏🏼

Ambience: 4/5 Food: 3.5/5 Service: 4.5/5 Portions: 5/5 Overall: 4/5 Was very excited to visit this restaurant given the hype around it. The restaurant offers ample seating on multiple floors. The service was very quick and the staff friendly. Their star dish was Koshery which personally didn’t live up to its hype. Their mango shake and rice pudding (kheer) was good though. Worth a visit but wouldn’t miss out on much if you didn’t go either.

Hands down the best Koshari in Egypt. Very clean dining area. The staff is super friendly and spoke good English. If you like spicy, you have to try their special spicy red sauce. It was to die for. I loved it so much I bought To-ago Containers of it🤣😍😋 I Will be back….❤️

it turned to be one of the most overrated food shops in Cairo! the quality / quantity getting lower .. & the price getting higher I'm not sure if that because many of tourists visiting here (including some groups i bring them myself) but since it's not worth it anymore I'll go to other places that serve koshary as well but with more respect for clients & with reasonable prices.

The best restaurant for the Kushari Egypt's national dish and a widely popular street food. A traditional Egyptian staple, mixing pasta, rice and brown lentils, and topped with a zesty tomato sauce, garlic vinegar and garnished with chickpeas and crispy fried onions which looks like cut nails. It is often served with sprinklings of garlic juice; garlic vinegar and hot sauce are optional. The service was fast and welcoming.

A bit tourists, but definitely a place to visit while you are in Cairo. The place is like a "koshary factory". They serve only this food on multiple levels. The waiters are kind and speaks good english. Be careful with the spicy one, because it is really really hot! The only setback is, that the price is double compared to a place where only locals eat koshary.

Fantastic restaurant to try their typical dish. They only have two different choices. Although they may not look really tasty, the food is amazing! We enjoyed a lot this plate and they also had yummy desserts. I strongly recommend you to try the different stuff. The restaurant is really big and the waiters are nice and efficient,

Was welcomed and seated straight away. Waiter was very enthusiastic and he explained the dish well. He gave us a bit of a show with mixing the dish together which made it a good experience for us for our first meal in Egypt.

Best Koshari in the town, really traditional Egyptian koshari you should never miss it if you are in Cairo, They have very nice desert Roz Bilaban and Umm Ali after you finish your meal, (Mr.Ehab) is really kind and he is really very welcoming us and he mixed for us the koshari in the perfect way I really would like to thank you for the amazing experience we had here !

A restaurant that specializes in just one dish and does it to perfection. The place is clean, the service is fast, and for westerners the price is ridiculous. The Koshary (a mix of rice, pasta, lentils, chickpeas, fried onion, and tomato juice) is tasty and filling.

My rating or review will make no difference.. as this place is very popular among the egyptians.. It is sort of their national dish.. Very economical & quick on the go... This chain is very iconic in egypt. So visit this place to check the bucket list but dont expect anything great. They just sell one dish.. on all 5 floors.

Abou Tarek came highly recommended by a local Egyptian friend to experience their national dish known as Koshari. It is vegetarian and involves ingredients being served individually and you add as much of what you need to make your plate. The basics of which include spice, vinegar, tomato sauce - all of which gets added as per your need to a bed of small macaroni/vermicelli and chickpeas. If you are a first timer to Abu Tarek, the staff is kind enough to show you how its done and I have a video for you to see just how fun it was! The flavour of the Koshari was outstanding and super fresh. They come in various sizes and guess what else? The restaurant doesn't serve anything else! Only Koshari in different sizes. The ambience tells its age and is in the really busy auto parts hub of Old Cairo but well worth the effort. Once inside you see the kitchen and the multiple staff packing and preparing hundreds of koshari portions for those dining in and those doing takeaway/delivery. An absolute icon of a restaurant and highly recommended given we tried Koshari at other points of our journey and none of them stood up to the quality and freshness of Abu Tarek!

The very first meal and the best food experience we had in Egypt. That was so good that we decided to come back in our last day before leaving Egypt. It’s a simple place, with only one vegetarian option for main course. Even though we’re not vegetarian, definitely worth the experience. Also, the service was great.

This photo on the second floor on a table with 2 seats.. The view was really cool. I didn't like how they serve me although it was really tasty. The only thing I didn't like about the dish is the chili sauce wasn't delicious as Eltahreer's sauce. They throw the dishes not serving them in respectful way..they also did sth I find it rude they took the plate of my friend before I finish my plate..I didn't understand the concept.. she won't leave if you took her dish unless I finish mine!!

Would never stop eating Koshary here 👌🏻👌🏻😍 the best ever. Whatever would be your mix of add-ons, it will be the best koshary experience you will ever have. And of course the sweet dish (roz b laban - milky rice) is a must to close off with.

Amazing experience! Right away the server took us to our table and explained the dish in perfect English (we are American). We both got smalls (which is plenty) and 2 cokes. It came to 60ep and we paid the recommended tip of 18 ep. After we were done, the server recommended 2 desserts, an additional 25ep. One was a rice pudding and we weren’t sure what the other was but it seemed like squash or pumpkin on the bottom. Both very good!

Yeah top notch. In and out quickly. What’s not to like. My first time trying it. The guy walked us through it and was very helpful! I loved it. Will definitely come here and eat lots of koshary when I come back to Egypt. Highly recommend! We had not dumped the sauce on yet in the photo. Hence why it doesn’t look complete!

Best Koshary in Cairo. Don't be surprised not to see a menu as they serve only one Dish and few variations. For what it is, it is a great option for vegetarian food. Good flavours and a hearty meal. The service is very good and quick. Loved the experience.

We were brought here by a guide when we asked to try some unique local food. This restaurant only serves koshary, made one way, on four floors. It's absolutely spectacular, delicious, and filling! Highly recommend checking them out! The rice pudding here was probably the best one I have ever tried!

I just don’t understand how people pray multiply times daily in this country but still don’t learn being honest. The whole experience could have been great if the manager didn’t intentionally fool me for more money... 30-50 EP isn’t significant to me at all, but it’s indeed disappointing behavior and business practices...

Best Koshari I've tried in Egypt. The chickpeas are a bit softer than most koshari places which I prefer more. Best texture and taste for the rice, lentils, noodles, tomatoes fried onions. The hot sauce, spices, and da'a mix on the side is amazing. Great job guys 🙏🏽❤

A great place to try Egypt’s national dish - Koshari. The restaurant is well known in Cairo for this one dish and it was busy when we got there. The staff are very friendly and made the experience memorable and the Koshari was certainly one of the best we’ve tried.

Abu Tarek A very famous and popular local joint for Egyptian spaghetti and beans. They get enough tourists and many Egyptians speak a little English, you won't have any problems. There is no menu. They only serve 1 dish. Your only choice will be water or cola. It is not a gourmet meal, but it is a great experience and very inexpensive.

One dish only (no meat) and its great! Fast service, very pleasant to stay in, lots of people but the staff always finds a place. Prices are great (2 medium specials and 2 cokes were 90 EGP - also, same prices for locals and foreigners). If youre there for the first time, staff will explain and mix it in front of you. Worth visiting when in Cairo.

When hubby and I went the place was PACKED! Several customers including us had to wait for a seat to open up but when it did it was 100% worth the wait. The food came fast and it was delicious. With how busy the place was I was completely surprised with how amazing the service was. Definitely recommend coming here. If you’re a tourist DO NOT take up a seat until told to do so. There’s staff working to seat people when a table opens up.

Was recommended to this place. Rather strange at first but was welcomed by the staff Malek, who quickly put us at ease. This place only served one dish call koshery. Great introduction to this very local food. We tried some dessert too. Lots of local came to eat there. And tourists too. Highly recommended.

It’s an uptown restaurant expert in koshary. The food was fulfilling and extremely yummy. It’s also the National food of Egypt. Purely vegetarian with chickpeas, fried onion, rice, pasta and tomato soup. The dish is a comfort food and the spices in it with a hint of lemon cleanses your palette. Also try the deserts served in the restaurant. Must visit recommended for travellers to Egypt. Don’t miss it!

This place serves one of thing. Get that thing! Its pasta, tomato sauce, lentils, fried onions, and other goodness. It's hearty, the staff is friendly, and it's served quickly. Make it as spicy (or not) as you want by the chili paste on the table!

You don't have to stress about what to order here because there's no choice. Koshary is the only main dish. Your choice is small, medium or large. Actually they also have a yummy rice pudding.

You have to pay in advance .. very yummy traditional Egyptian koshary.. the hot sauce is really hot so be careful.. the small plate is not as small as you think it's quite good .. almost zero parking so go there in an uber and don't walk around this area

Tasty food at an extremely cheap price. There's only one vegetarian dish, a mix of noodles, rice and some vegetables, including crunchy fried onion and chickpeas. For dessert you can choose between rice or vanilla pudding.

Koshary is tasty but downtown branch was better. Roz b laban (rice pudding) is extremely nice. They have indoor and outdoor area. You can easily park. They are good in terms in hygiene. They prices are very high.

It's a typical local place. The koshari is good and quite heavy for a single person. One plate is a good meal that will keep you full for quite sometime. The rice pudding was amazing. Not too sweet. I would say the perfect combination 👍

the koshary was ok but the waiter took all the change just because we were tourist. this mentality towards tourist from egyptian people destroys the whole experience in all kind of places. we were never scamed in any other koshary but this waiter just took all the change for himself without even asking. we dont mind if its a small amount but it has somthing to do with honor. if he would be honest we would give a tip by ourself. we hope this kind of people get fired in the future, they are not good for the reputation of egytp. sad.

The koshary was amazing and very cheap. I would definitely recommend the rice pudding aswell, as they don't have a menu. The staff was friendly, knew english(which was rare in egypt) and ready to help. A famous egyptian singer also visited it at the same time when I was there. Overall the experience was great and I would highly recommend visiting it.

The very original unique taste in Egypt. Prices are very reasonable, you pay in advance but this makes things easier specially when it is very crowded. Ask the waiter to mix the sauses for you then pour them to your dish and enjoy.. The place was very clean and staff hospitality was more than perfect.. Enjoy

25 EP for the smallest bowl with something to drink! Pay once you order! Tastes great, super super super fast! Super crowded? They have 3 or 4 floors for dining, also you won't wait long, usually! They serve sweets after Kushari, I didn't try!

Came here with a tour guide. We had to get the Koshary experience and it was awesome. The restaurant is super nice and very family friendly. There are fish tanks to keep the kids entertained and a floating pool of balls for them to play with. The food is excellent. Waiters will come over and put on a show preparing your koshary meal. There are many locals here and the prices are great. Food was excellent and I highly recommend a visit.

Very filling delicious kushary. We tried the deluxe kushary dish which consist of rice, lentils, pasta and chick peas. Garnished with fried onions . Tomato sauce and mixed spices added on top. Also we tried rice pudding which was nice . The service is excellent The price is acceptable for this dish Very busy place with one small entrance

So delicious. This place offers one type of food which is the Koshary but excels in the making of it. The meal was cooked to perfection and the hosts were so welcoming and kind. Prices were cheap and affordable. Highly recommended.

. Humble beginnings! I met the owner who was sitting outside the restaurant. We sat and chatted for a minute and took a photo. His cart with which he started selling Koshari, decades ago, sits right by the restaurant as a reminder of his early beginnings. The restaurant has multiple floors for seating and does a roaring take-away business. We enjoyed our Koshari and the rice pudding. A server will prepare (mix) the koshari for you on your table Service is fast and friendly. English is not widely spoken by the staff. Give this place a shot … you will enjoy it and do take a minute to observe the servers behind the high counter by the entrance. They might show off their serving skills.

In love with this place!!! A must try Cheerfully greeted at the door and sat down immediately. I loved it so much I came back twice and tried the same dish 3 times during my stay in Cairo Got the recommendation from my tour guide and it DID NOT disappoint. I would eat this multiple times a week if I could.

It was my first time eating koshary. They did a little show for me. It tasted so good and the good thing is that we can make it any spicier we want. I recommend everyone to try it as its the National dish of Egypt and its very affordable too. Do give it a try.

  • 5/5 Will P. 1 year ago on Google
Unbelievable good! If you like Koshari (or have never before tried it), this is the place to eat it - it’s the only item on the menu, so they know all about how to make it perfect. The value for money is exceptional, and the service very nice, especially to strangers that don’t speak arabic.

This is a famous Koshari restrant. Always crowded. If it is crowded, you will be guided to the top 4th floor, but all floors were air-conditioned. It was impressive that the staff were kind and seemed to enjoy their work. Several of the staff are proficient in English and will speak to you about how to eat and talk in English.

My first time here was 20 years ago. I had such a nice experience back then as I was young and keen to explore local food. It seems to have got better with the years for some reason. Koshary is a cheap, calorie dense and yet nutritious dish and they only serve that. It is naturally vegan and it is great that you can make it spicy to your liking, thanks to the additional condiments on your table. It is funny to hear nearby tables with first time tourists asking for a menu and hear the answer "we only serve koshary". Believe me, you won't need to eat more than that. It is delicious and it ticks all the boxes: it is crunchy, it is filling, nutritious and it will make you ask for more, even though you will be full towards the end.

Headed over to the restaurant from The grand Égyptian museum by walk as per suggestion from a friend. The place was packed but plenty had seating and the service was quick. The restaurant had air conditioning which was quite a relief from the heat. The koshary was delicious and the waiter did a bit of show and added the spices and lemon as per our taste requirements.Had the desert which was delicious ❤️

Amazing food and service as well, you get a table and your meal very fast, the waiter was kind enough to explain and mix the ingredients in the sauce for me so everything was ready in a few moments and delicious. Also the koshary portion is big and comes with a salad on side. They take care of you in a very friendly and efficient manner, this was my second time and for sure I will be back
