It is historic and beautiful! So finally I made to Cafe Riche, one of the most popular cafés in Cairo for the fact that it used to hold big gatherings of great people in the past. So many famous loved Egyptian artists were meeting there, the most famous writers and politicians used to meet there in what used to be calles "cultural salon" where they held open discussions and interacting brainstorm sessions, even before we know them with this name! You can smell the history in the place, with its unique decoration, in every corner. Staff are so nice and friendly. Food was so good, very good prices as well. Another advantage, you can have you ice cold beer 🍻 served along. I strongly recommend to visit, mingle, eat there when around as it is not only historic but well maintained with beautiful spirit.

It is very difficult to recognized because the exterior of the shop is surrounded by the construction framework. The inside of the store is stately, the cooler is quite effective, and you can drink alcohol(after 1p.m.). Tastes normal. Quantity is small for the price. - Dawood Basha(no rice, with French fries) 85£E - STELLA Bottle(500ml bottle) 125£E

I knew I shouldn’t order dinner here as I’ve read the reviews on the long waiting time for food. So I went for the short list of simple and traditional desserts and a strong Turkish coffee. To sum it up you should definitely visit this iconic place based in its nostalgic atmosphere and only order a drink or a coffee and dessert. You won’t be disappointed. The service was friendly and fast. The prices compared to Europe are very low..

Very good place for a quick drink , and to discover the old Egypt and the historic place . Although the desserts wasn't delicious as i was expecting but definitely will stay one of the best places to visit in the downtown .

It is one of the old cafes in Cairo, but they should have a professional dealing with customers. I wanted to order a coffee, but he told me that there is only beer and i see they don’t want me to stay , I know the coffee For intellectuals and writers , But respect the other groups of society

Old vintage caffè in Cairo downtown next to Tahrir Square. The location was famous for beijg an intelletual meeting point... the atmosphere will remind you the years of early '900. Good variety of food (not only egyptian) and beverage. You will find also local beer for only 125 egyptian pounds. Service is friendly but a little slow. Good quality food.

We came to see a historic cafe but were surprised to see an unfriendly, super rude blonde woman managing the place. It is a shame honestly to have someone like her manage the cafe. She did not allow us to sit inside where the intellectuals and revolutionaries used to meet. She allowed only outside, on the renovated modern section. No greetings whatsoever. The staff is terrified by her and thus didn’t get our order right. I don’t recommend visiting the cafe, it’s not worth it.

Awful, the place is more of bad fastfood but with mid range restaurant prices. Plastic cutlery, ketchup in sachets. Mains were ok, but nothing special, green salad was a few slices of cucumbers and tomatoes. But the worst were half frosen artichokes - this was really awful. Service very slow and lazy. Much better go to some nearby shawarma kiosk and have a proper meal.

Nice clean place with friendly service. Food was unremarkable. We tried the artichoke with lemon and napolitano pasta. Not bad but nothing special.

Great for orientalist atmosphere seeker, great location with renovation is going on. Con is parking lots which is the case for all shops in that location other than that enjoyable.

Thanks to our Egyptian colleague Karim Khalil who uncovered this place with its unique rich cultural history. We learned that it used to gather generations of Egyptians thinkers and creatures in many branches of Arts, such as writers, actors, singers and others. Now it is a nice café/ restaurant where you can have a bite with a glass of local wine of excellent quality. If you read Arabic, you will find inside an excellent book entitled "Rich Café, an Eye on Egypt". Ask the lady on desk for it. Absolutely recommend.

I haven't visited this place for a long time. I am happy to see a very clear improvement to quality and service. Some of the menu dishes are very interesting too like the mushroom kobeiba and the grilled fish fillet.

The atmosphere is great and very nostalgic. The food is like home made but there could be more options in the menu. The staff is friendly.

Old and nostalgic cafe, Nice ambiance, the tables are dirty very dirty. They must work more on cleaning the tables and chairs and dishes. The staff are friendly and helpful but the service was slow. Average prices.

An authentic cafe with great for and service. Limited menu written in Arabic, French and English. Their food is tastey. The waiters is always smiley even though the mask is hiding it.

It must have been an amazing place, once, but now it isn’t. People, visiting the place, are still being fooled in to believing it is an awesome place to hangout, have a drink or something to eat, but let me tell you it’s not worth your time, effort and money. The food is really not good and there is no more flair left in this Cafe. We were excited about visiting this place but never again. Too bad that it isn’t anymore as it used to be described online. I hope the management can turnaround this place again but that’s needs determination and money and good personnel. Good luck! Note: My stomach is still upset from the food I’ve eaten there🥴

Unfortunately, this place doesn't live up to its great history. It was the worst food we had in Egypt during our vacation: dry bread, vegetables frozen and dishes without taste. It also took 45 minutes to get the dishes. Hopefully this place will change in future! For the moment it's only good for the history and a coffee or tea.

Tourists should avoid this place. The interior looks interesting enough to walk in, given there are few other options around. The service staff started and remained unfriendly. We started with an order of cappuccino, which this cafe failed to deliver over more than 40 minutes with us asking 3 more times. It tasted burnt and like made of instant coffee powder. We made the mistake of ordering food as well, which was of the cheapest quality. Our fries came with no condiments and asking for ketchup brought us another stare down. The breaded veal was ok, it came with the cheapest "sauteed vegetables", which looked like the most basic deep frozen pees and beans you find in the supermarket. Overall we felt very much uninvited as tourists, whilst service staff seemed to be nice to locals and arabic speaking people.

One of the historical places in cairo downtown. The vintage design is breathtaking however, I don’t like the food tase less than normal. Also the bathroom was not clean at all . Overall it’s a nice place to experience though I don’t recommend eating there.

Im there atm there’s loads of food leftovers and garbage under our table from the previous customers and there isn’t another table free so I asked the waiter to call a cleaner and he said “well ur not gonna sit on the floor are you” in the rudest possible way! Obviously Don’t recommend it won’t be coming back.

A tourist trap in my opinion: high prices for very average food. The interiors are nice though and it's nice to have a drink with your meal. But for a nice meal, I wouldn't recommend it.

You drink your coffee or eat your meal with history flavour, honestly I don't remember how the food was, because my mind was busy visualizing that am setting next to the top names in Egypt's Culure, Art & Political history. If you are setting with Najueb Mahfouz or Taha Hussein or Roza Al yossef, would you care about your coffee taste? I wouldn't.

It was my first time going there even though I wanted to go for years, but I didn't for some reason.. The atmosphere and service are really good, I had a coffee and my friend had a beer, but I wanna go and try their food experience next time. I loved the room with the pictures of all the awesome and influential people that used to hang out there.. Poets, artists, authors.. It was so beautiful, I felt their energy in the place in a way

Well, it's more of a bar than a cafe/restaurant. -I didn't know that till I got in XD-. Anyway, it was a nice place to spend some time in. It's quiet and relaxing in the morning. You can get some work done there on your laptop as if you were in a workspace. And I love it's theme overall as it makes you feel nostalgic.

Like stepping back 50 years! There’s an aura of comfort and history to surround you whilst you sip your coffee. Reasonable prices for food on the menu, and it looked reasonably busy when we passed later at night.

Came here for the “historic experience” that people keep talking about but was met with the worst experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant in my life. Place looks old which is great due to its famed history but it wouldn’t hurt the staff to clean up a bit dear god. Everything was so dusty. Might as well have sat outside. Staff was weird. Waitress was nice at first but then kept ignoring us completely. When it was time to order, she made comments about the food that deterred us from most of the menu. Then when our orders came, everything either looked store bought or cooked on the floor then stepped on. I’ve never seen nasty food like that in Egypt. I’ve seen street food look better. Even the Turkish coffee didn’t smell right. In the end, they ended up charging us for the bread that they gave us, that I might add we didn’t order. All in all, the food was horrifying and I was very disappointed to see this place go down like this but I guess some places have lived their life and maybe it’s time to close this one. Anyways, they are definitely relying on only reputation to keep the traffic going. What’s even more disappointing is that they copy and paste the same response to those who had a distasteful experience as mine. So for those who see this message under my review: “Dear [insert name], thanks for sharing your feedback. We're sorry your experience didn't match your expectations. It was an uncommon instance and we'll do better. Please feel free reach out to [+201006042990] with any further comments, concerns, or suggestions you wish to share. We would love to make things right if you give us another chance.” Then you know that they don’t bother to read any of their reviews and have no plan to fix this place. Instead they claim that this distasteful experience is an uncommon instance which is definitely not true considering the number of the reviews that say otherwise. I don’t often review places but I felt like I had to put this out there and let everyone, tourists or Egyptians, know to STAY AWAY from this place and let it go.

The spaghetti bolognese pleasantly surprised me. I got a side of frites too, and finished with a muhallabia (which came early to my delight). This place has range.

It's a unique place. Very historic with a lot of iconic old writers gathering there in the past. The place still has it's feel of old richness. It looks like s long train carriage in demensions. Waiters wear very traditional blue gold threaded gowns. They serve alcohol which is very unusual but common for downtown places like this and others that still exist since the hay day of downtown in the 20s-70s. They have an eclectic menu of home cooking and bbq items. Tried macaroni w bachamel sauce and dolma leaves. Both were good. It's a place where you come to study, chill or have an artistic meeting. Customers are much older and seem to be coming here for ages. The younger crowd is an eccentric one just from the look of them. I was neither not, just a passer by.

Can’t say enough about this place. When you come to Tahrir Square in downtown Cairo this place is a must to come eat here! Authentic Egyptian food set in a beautiful historical building. This place has been here for a 100 years and may it be here a 100 years later! From the service to the food, Cafe Riche is 5 stars!
