Suleiman
Pasha
Al-Khadim
Mosque
(Saria
Al-Jabal)
Suleiman
Pasha
Al-Khadim
Mosque
is
located
in
the
northern
part
of
the
Salah
al-Din
al-Ayyubi
Citadel
The
mosque
is
registered
among
the
Islamic
monuments
under
No.
142
by
Ministerial
Resolution
No.
10357
of
1951
AD.
This
mosque
was
established
by
the
Ottoman
governor
Suleiman
Pasha
Al-Khadim
Suleiman
Pasha
ruled
Egypt
for
two
periods,
the
first
period
from
the
year
931
AH
/
941
AH
/
1525
AD
and
1535
AD
for
a
period
of
ten
years.
Then
he
was
assigned
the
rule
of
Egypt
for
the
second
time
in
the
year
943
AH/945
AH
1536/1538
AD.
This
mosque
was
built
on
the
site
of
an
old
mosque
dating
back
to
the
Fatimid
era,
which
is
the
mosque
of
Abu
Mansour
Qusta,
governor
of
Alexandria
in
the
Fatimid
era
in
the
year
535
AH
1140
AD.
When
the
mosque
was
destroyed,
the
Ottoman
governor
Suleiman
Pasha
al-Khadim
renovated
it
to
be
a
headquarters
for
the
Janissary
soldiers
so
that
there
would
not
be
a
clash
with
the
Azab
sect
located
south
of
the
citadel.
This
mosque
is
the
first
Ottoman-style
mosque
in
Cairo
The
mosque
has
three
architectural
facades,
the
main
facade
is
located
on
the
southwestern
side
In
terms
of
interior
design,
the
mosque
consists
of
two
parts
The
northern
section
consists
of
an
open
courtyard
surrounded
by
four
corridors
covered
with
shallow
domes
The
southern
section
is
the
house
of
prayer,
and
is
surmounted
by
a
stone
dome,
the
interior
of
which
is
decorated
with
various
decorations,
ranging
from
geometric,
floral,
and
inscriptional.
For
the
first
time
in
Ottoman
mosques,
we
see
the
Ottoman
style
of
the
minaret
in
the
minaret
of
this
mosque,
the
top
of
which
was
designed
in
a
conical
shape
with
ceramic
tiles
resembling
a
pencil.
The
mosque
was
known
as
Sariyah
al-Jabal,
in
reference
to
the
great
companion
Sariyah
bin
Znaim
bin
Amr
al-Kinani,
may
God
be
pleased
with
him,
and
it
is
a
name
that
has
no
origin.
