The Musafer Khana Palace was one of the most beautiful palaces in the Ottoman era, and it is the palace in which Khedive Ismail was born in 1829. The construction of the palace itself was begun by Mahmoud Muharram al-Fayoumi in 1779 and completed in 1789. It was completely destroyed in a fire that lasted for 12 days in 1998, and some of the timber still remains of it, including the founding text. The palace is currently used as a den for taking drugs and injecting Maxx, and a breeding ground for stray dogs. He pointed out that the palace is considered a history that transformed from the pinnacle of prosperity during the era of princes into a hotbed for smoking contraband and throwing garbage, hidden beneath it are marble floors that were often trodden by the feet of princes, rulers, writers, and visual artists. Mahmoud Muharram House, or Al-Musafer Khana, is one of the ancient archaeological houses in Cairo. It was established by Mahmoud bin Muharram in the year 1193 AH/1779 AD. It is located between Al-Masmat and Al-Tablawi derby in Al-Gamaleya neighbourhood. This rare Islamic historical monument dates back more than five hundred years, specifically to the year 1779 in which construction began, and it took nearly ten years to complete it in the year 1789 AD. As for its builder, it was Shah Bandar al-Tijjar Mahmoud Muharram al-Fayoumi, who created a mosque in his name on the corner of Al-Masmat Street, and shortly after this date, Muhammad Ali turned it into a hostess dedicated to receiving major visitors to Egypt from countries around the world for a long time. This unique monument received special attention from the Alawite state, so much so that in one of its rooms it witnessed the birth of Khedive Ismail on January 22, 1829, and continues to this date. The palace contained many dazzling artistic and architectural models of arabesques, marble, mosaics, and colored glass in a manner consistent with its great height, which was 22 meters. It also contained the largest Islamic-style mashrabiya in the world. It came to the attention of the state in 1897 when it was registered by the Arab Antiquities Committee. It was restored for the first time in 1928, and before it burned on October 22, 1998, it was transformed into a tourist attraction and a studio for many artists, before it was turned into a drug den today.

culture "Al-Musafer Khana"... a historic palace suffering from neglect Sunday 26 August 2018 - 05:27 PM The traveler is a box Reem Mukhtar One of the most wonderful historical palaces in the Al-Gamaleya area. It is the Al-Musafer Khana Palace, which was built by Mahmoud Muharram Al-Fayoumi in 1789, and registered as a monument since 1897. It transformed over time from an important tourist and historical site and shrine to a pitiful place. From the moment you arrive at the site, you are met with smells that can... You have to endure it, so the ancient palace turns into a yard in which citizens throw garbage, and dogs and donkeys roam inside. Not only that, but visitors come to the palace at night, but they are visitors to “Al-Kif”, who take the dilapidated ruins of the palace as their shelter. During its tour of the historic site, the Al-Bawaba News camera monitored signs of neglect and the remains of evidence of drug use, represented by “syringes” thrown on the ground, without regard to the sanctity of a unique historical site, inhabited by drug users at night and stray dogs during the day. We communicated with a number of residents of the area where the ancient palace is located, so that “A.F.” narrated the details of what the site was exposed to, saying: “We were placing ourselves as guards over the antiquity before it broke out in a fire in 1998, and we discovered, after putting out the fire, that all of the antiquities inside it had been stolen and “Emptying the palace, so that it is devoid of any landmarks that help in reaching its identity.” He continued: "We knew its value as something similar to it would not come in this region and in the same area, and we preserved it until it became a shelter for criminals and drug users. We spoke with many officials to save it, but to no avail. We reported more than once about incidents that occurred in it, such as quarrels between users over narcotic doses." And making noises that terrify the residents of the area.” In an area not far from the palace, specifically in the house opposite it, sits a woman over eighty years old, who recalled her childhood memories as soon as the editor of “Al-Bawaba News” asked her about the history of the palace. She said sadly: “In my childhood, the palace was beautiful from the outside, and even though I... I had never entered it before, but I am sure that it was more beautiful on the inside, and now it has turned into a drug den, a shelter for gunmen, and a large basket for the rubbish from which we suffer. None of this was here before the fire that struck the palace, and he did not care about it. One of the effects so far.

#Call_to_rescue Today, I was on an archaeological visit on Al-Gamaleya Street, and I was determined that we enter the remains and ruins of the “Al-Musafer Khana” palace, because even if it is destroyed, neglected, and abandoned, as a result of its influence, we have a very simple right, which is to visit it, to see it, and to tell and talk to people about its history, its story, and the events that took place. I saw it, as we wandered around the remains of the Hall of Glory. I saw the poetic verses that were written to me above one of the entrances, and which I had seen before throughout all my previous visits to the place. I was contemplating the poetic verses. The words were exquisite, the handwriting was beautiful, the meaning was pleasing to the eye, the heart, and the ear. This was all when one of my companions said in astonishment and amazement, “Why is this wonderful threshold not transferred to the Museum of Islamic Art to preserve it from neglect instead of being stolen or taken away and lost?!” I found myself asking the same question: Why is this important part not dismantled, especially since it is in a good state of preservation, and a corner is allocated to it in the Museum of Islamic Art and we talk about the antiquities and history of Al-Musafer Khana Palace?! Is it possible for this to be achieved? Is it possible to see that lintel in the Museum of Islamic Civilization or Art?! Now, in my next few humble words, I will mourn this great edifice that has become a monument after an eye. - I stand here in the ruins of Al-Musafer Khana Palace, here and in this place in the Al-Gamaleya neighborhood, which in 1830 AD witnessed the birth of the first Khedive of Egypt, the Khedive “Ismail bin Ibrahim bin Muhammad Ali Pasha,” and where Ismail Uli lived for almost eight years of his life.. - I stand on the ruins of the door of the “Glory” Hall, one of the halls of the luxurious palace that was designated to receive major merchants in Egypt. Above the door are engraved on the marble poetic verses of the utmost magnificence, beauty, and high taste that contrast terrifyingly with the reality surrounding it, as a line was written above the door: “For you, oh.” The dear Hassan Hall.. It is in Egypt the paradise of halls.. May God protect it from envious people and may you always be a haven of highs and pleasures.. Whoever sees its radiance says that it is a hall of paradise! » - Al-Musafer Palace Al-Khana in Al-Jamaliyya neighborhood, in whose halls the great historian Abd al-Rahman al-Jabarti and Ali Pasha Mubarak sat and met. This palace was built by the Egyptian merchant Shahbandar, “Mahmoud Muharram al-Fayoumi,” in the year 1789 AD to reside in, and then he gave it to “Ibrahim Pasha bin Muhammad Ali Pasha.” » It also contained the Hall of Man and the Hall of Happiness, and now nothing remains of this great palace except ruins and ruins, after it was a precious pearl that delighted onlookers. Musafer Palace Khana It is the palace of Mahmoud Muharram Al-Fayoumi, one of Cairo's leading merchants. He founded it in 1779, then gifted it to Ibrahim Pasha, son of Muhammad Ali, who in turn gave it to his daughter Fatima, mother of Khedive Ismail, to witness the first 8 years of his life. After that, the building was subjected to a state of severe neglect, becoming A place for waste, then the palace was exposed to a major fire in 1998 that destroyed entire large parts of the palace. What remains of the palace now is ruins of walls, and so far the Cairo Governorate or the Ministry of Antiquities have not come forward to preserve what remains of the archaeological building.

It's a shame that the historic Palace is where Khedive Ismail Pasha, the grandson of the Father of Modern Egypt, Muhammad Ali Pasha, spent his childhood. Now only rubble remains, due to the carelessness of the building caretaker. Even though the 4-story palace building had been restored with huge funds, all efforts to restore and preserve it disappeared overnight because of the red blaze due to negligence on the part of the management.
