(Translated by Google) Al-Hakim Mosque, by God’s command, was a mosque built in 380 AH during the reign of al-Aziz Bill Allah the Fatimid, who began in the year 379 AH (989 CE) to build another mosque outside Bab al-Futuh, but he died before it was completed, so his son al-Hakim completed it 403 AH (1012-1013 CE) so it was attributed to him and became known as a mosque the ruler. Al-Hakim Mosque, God willing Description of the mosque Its length is 1,2005 meters and its width is 113 meters, so its area is less than the area of the Mosque of Amr bin Al-Aas, and at the ends of its (northwestern) sea façade, the two minarets are surrounded by two great pyramidal-shaped bases and each base is composed of two cubes, one above the other, and the upper cube is placed back slightly above the lower, and the latter reaches a height of the latter. The height of the mosque’s walls is high, and from each of the two upper cubes there is an octagonal minaret in the middle of this waterfront and between the two minarets there is the entrance to the ancient mosque. The arch and the wall in it are newly built, and in the entrance on the right and on the left there are remnants of exquisite inscriptions, 1,60 meters high, forming a tabernacle in the entrance, and the entrance leads to the courtyard of the mosque, which is surrounded by the owls. Very beautiful place, after restoration. But unfortunately here I faced something very weird! We took some photos for personal use. I had been there with a beautiful decent dress and veiled. The security guys came to us and insisted on deleting all the photos from the camera. And it was done in a very rude way! That's not the way people should be treated!! P.S.: the only photo I have at my phone 😞⤵️

The mosque is highly regarded for its authentic architecture, design & landscape. A nice place for photography enthusiasts. A good place for prayers; the praying area is huge, the carpets are a bit dusty, but otherwise comfortable enough. The ablution areas & toilets are quite far but well-maintained.

The construction of the Al-Hakim Mosque began with the command of God located at the end of the “Al-Mu’iz Din Al-Fatimiyyin” Street in Al-Jamaliah neighborhood, during the reign of Al-Aziz Al-Fatimiyyah in 989 A.D. The ruler, by the command of God, until he finished building it in the year 1012 AD, and the first prayer in it was on March 20, 1013. The mosque has a length of about 120 meters and a width of 113 meters. There are two minarets surrounded by two great pyramid-shaped bases. Each base of two cubes is mounted on top of the other and the upper cubic is placed back slightly above the lower. Each of the two cubes protrudes from an octagonal minaret in the middle of this waterfront Between the two minarets, there is the entrance to the ancient mosque. The entrance to the archaeological mosque is considered the first prominent entrance in Cairo's mosques, covered by a cylindrical cellar, width of 3.48 meters and length of 5.5 meters, at the end of which is a width of 2.21 meters and held with a horizontal contract of stone. It is a medicine in the entrance, and the entrance leads to the courtyard of the mosque, which is the widest among the Egyptian mosques, surrounded by the Awwain. The mosque witnessed many changes that affected its status within the Fatimid state, its beginning was with the ruler's instructions to order God to “approve teaching at the mosque, and allow Al-Azhar scholars to teach and join him, to become the“ Fourth University in Egypt ”after the Mosque of Amr Ibn Al-Aas and the Mosque of Ahmed Ibn Tulun and the Mosque Al-Azhar. The mosque was neglected for long periods until its corridors turned into warehouses for other merchants surrounding the area, until the era of the late President Mohamed Anwar Sadat, where the Bohr Shia sect requested permission to renew it by self-efforts, and Sadat called for the opening of the mosque, and since then the Bohr Shia who migrated to Egypt and settled As merchants under the auspices of the mosque and is open to all denominations by praying with it..

Al Hakim be Amr Allah mosque is unique in its design and architecture. Located right before al fetouh gate. Spacious. It is open all day till night. Closes immediately after Al Isha prayer. Al Hakim himself one of the most controversial kalifs in the history of Egypt. With his notorious laws and legislations. And even his death remains a mystery

The mosque is good enough, but we can't go up to see the scenery of the city. This mosque open for public and we can do pray in that. The building is so old and the architecture design is unique from front side until inside. And then, there is a long citadel near the mosque. It's good spot for taking photo and you will get old atmosphere.

Visited this most beautiful mosque yesterday during noon time, when it was almost empty. It’s really worth a visit 💛! The Mosque of al-Hakim (Arabic: مسجد الحاكم بأمر الله, romanized: Masjid al-Ḥākim bi Amr Allāh), nicknamed al-Anwar (Arabic: الانور, lit. 'the Illuminated'), is a historic mosque in Cairo, Egypt. It is named after Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah (985–1021), the sixth Fatimid caliph and 16th Ismaili Imam. Construction of the mosque was originally started by Caliph al-'Aziz, the son of al-Mu'izz and the father of al Hakim, in 990 AD. It was completed in 1013 by al-Hakim, which is why it is named after him.

The Mosque of al-Hakim is a 10th century mosque named for Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah, the sixth Fatimid caliph. Design wise the mosque is fairly simple with a large courtyard surrounded by arcades on all four sides. The only distinctive thing I could see about the mosque is the unusual minaret which is clearly a different building material from the rest of the mosque, with an unusual hollow design. Take a quick look if in Islamic Cairo, but I wouldn’t go out of the way to see it.

The arch and the wall in it are newly built, and in the entrance on the right and on the left there are remnants of exquisite inscriptions, 1,60 meters high, forming a drum in the entrance, and the entrance leads to the courtyard of the mosque, which is surrounded by the owls. Iwans It is in the following order: the southeast iwan (the iwan of the qibla) and it consists of five aisles, and each corridor has 17 arches, facing it the northwest iwan and it consists of two arcades and each arcade also has 17 arches, and the north-eastern and south-western iwans and each of them consists of three galleries and each arcade is carried On the shoulders resembling the shoulders of the Tulunid Mosque, as there are in the four corners of each shoulder there are columns like the columns of the Tulunid Mosque, but they are thicker and have no capitals. It is of dark bricks that resemble the bricks used in the construction of the Mosque of Ibn Tulun and the shoulders are connected to each other with a medallion (wooden ties) covered with panels decorated with carvings carved into the wood, as the columns were topped by flat wood mattresses consisting of two or three pieces, and there are two domes at the ends of the qibla wall carried on an octagon There is also a third dome over the mihrab, and the eastern dome was demolished due to the erection of the wall that Badr al-Gamali built adjacent to the eastern wall of the mosque, and all windows in this wall were blocked for the same reason. The forerunner and there were two other doors to the right of the current entrance, all of which were blocked, as there were two doors on the eastern side (a door in the middle and a door adjacent to the minaret), a door in the middle of the western side, and a door to the preacher next to the minbar, so the total number of doors became nine. As for the windows in this mosque, they are placed on the axis of each It was held, unlike the windows of the Tulunid Mosque, because it was slightly deviated from it. As a result, there were 16 nets in the ruling mosque and in each of the side walls and 17 nets in each of the qibla iwan and the wall opposite it. The two minarets were blocked by a window on each side, thus the number of windows becomes only 16 and there are two windows In the back wall of the qibla iwan to the left of the mihrab, and the decoration in these two windows does not include geometric decoration, but rather consists of plant motifs intertwined with each other, and as we mentioned, there were stucco bazars surrounding the mosque from the magnificent kufic line whose traces still remain to this day in the qibla iwan as well as the domes and windows It was decorated with exquisite stucco ornaments, and even the wooden medallion was decorated carved in wood, some of which are still present in the qibla iwan. The eastern part of building the wall adjacent to this wall, just as the earthquake in 702 AH (1303 AD) severely damaged it, destroying many arches and shoulders carrying them, and the roof fell as the tops of the two minarets collapsed and calamities rolled over it until all its vessels were destroyed except for some decades in the tribal and eastern iwans, so the Egyptian Ministry of Endowments used it A storeroom in which Islamic artifacts and antiquities were preserved before they were transferred to the current house and now occupied by the El-Selahdar Primary School. In it, it was a rational plan and the Mosque of Al-Maqs, which he built on the shore of the Nile in Al-Maqs, the Cairo river port at that time, and they have no effect today. This place is very interesting to visit and to make your visit to this beautiful ancient mosque, it is recommended that you do some reading about the Elhakem life and his time when he was the king of Egypt and about his mosque as well, the reading will give a great insight and it will complement your visit. The mosque and the surrounded area needs big attention, inside the mosque the toilets and washing area need to be just cleaned and looked after..no need to big improvement and big investment..cleaning and remain clean at all times is pretty much enough to keep the authentic atmosphere of the mosque and surrounding properties. outside the mosque need to be cleaned and to remain clean no expensive efforts is needed and the footpath has to be clear for people to enjoy their walk and to stand and watch the mosque from outside, all the plastic tables and chairs on footpath brought the dodgy cafes across the road is defaming the mosque and make it difficult for people to walk and enjoy their time around the mosque, plus this is not the way we respect our great our ancient great mosque that was at some point time the most prestigious and beautiful place in Cairo and the foundation of islamic science that has traveled the world from this mosque.

It's a must visit mosque in Cairo. The grandness and divinity one experiences being there cannot be expressed by words. This mosque was restored with vision and efforts of Dawoodi Bohra community leader Dr Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin and was inaugurated in 1981. Today this mosque is a place to experience the peace of mind one feels glorious and proud knowing the history and challenges faced and how it were overcome during restoration. I feel blessed and lucky to have visited Jame Al Anwar!

What can one say about this wonderful place. A very important part of Fatimid History. Also know as Al Anwar Mosque, Many years ago this mosque was so run down, but The Late Sultan Bohra Al-Dai al-Ajal Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin RA had taken on the restoration project to put this mosque back to its true glory and today it is beautiful once again.

Al-Hakim Bi-Amr Allah Mosque is a mosque built in the year 380 AH during the reign of Al-Aziz Billah Al-Fatimi, who began in the year 379 AH (989 AD) to build another mosque outside Bab Al-Futuh, but he died before completing it, so his son Al-Hakim completed it in 403 AH (1012-1013 AD), so it was attributed to him and became known as a mosque the ruler.

  • 5/5 Aly M. 10 months ago on Google
Such an awesome atmosphere The Mosque of al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah is the fourth oldest mosque in Egypt, and the second largest after the Mosque of ibn Tulun. The construction of the mosque was begun by al-Hakim’s father, the Fatimid Caliph al-Aziz bi Allah in 380 AH/990 AD, but he died before its completion, leaving his son to finish it in 403 AH/1013 AD. The mosque is located at the end of al-Muizz Street in al-Gamaliya district, near Bab al-Futuh. Originally, the mosque was constructed outside the walls of the city commissioned by the Fatimid Vizier Jawhar al-Siqilli, and was later incorporated into the walls that built by Badr al-Din al-Jamali (480 AH/1078 AD). The main entrance lies on the western facade of the mosque, and is monumental in size and design. It is one of the oldest architectural examples of projecting entrances, and was influenced by the great Mosque of Mahdiya in Tunis. The mosque once served as a Shiite center in Egypt, operating as al-Azhar Mosque did in the Fatimid period. The plan of the mosque consists of a triangle with four arcades centering a courtyard. Two minarets flank either side of the façade. The mosque has undergone several restoration phases throughout the years. The mosque has a long and intriguing history, including its role as a barracks during the French campaign, when its minarets were utilized as watch-towers. Its qibla arcade was used as a museum of Islamic art called the House of the Arab Antiquities. Source: minstery of tourism in Egypt

The mosque provides a glimpse into the rich Islamic heritage of Fatimid Caliphate. It showcases a captivating blend of architectural styles, incorporating elements from different periods and regions. Its intricate designs, decorative motifs, and unique minarets make it a visually striking place to explore, especially for enthusiasts of Islamic art and architecture. The tranquil atmosphere within the mosque can offer a serene and contemplative experience. The mosque is located in the heart of Islamic Cairo, an area rich in historical sites.

So pristine and we'll cared for, for years and years. It is a colorful place in an area that has a lot of muted creams browns. Quiet place for contemplation. The inside is deceptively large. Two pools for cleansing, which is a requirement before prayer. Women and men are separated by partions, and of course, women must cover their heads, and all have to remove their shoes. It is free to enter.
