We stayed there for 4 nights, they came to the airport to take us in the middle of the night and they brought us to the airport (always in the middle of the night). They were really kind and helpful. WiFi worked in a decent way, and was for free. The position was perfect for our trip, close to the metro and in the Old Cairo. The room was honest, with a private bathroom and a small balcony. The only thing missed were the towels and the shampoo/body lotion.

Warning: we originally booked Hotel Velvet 1928, but we were told there was an bathroom problem and were guided to Hotel Velvet 1889. Dunno if it was the right information or why this happened. See my review of hotel velvet 1889, we couldn't recommend this hotel.

The hotel building is a old structure suited more for a warehouse than human habitation! Reasons for terrible rating is below 1.The online pictures are deceptive to reality tbh 2.washroom/wc is tiny and inside the room with no external ventilation 3.wet cold torn towels offered on request even though check in was in the evening 4.rooms are small, dirty and shabby with a little window 5.Reception boys were busy chatting until 4 am which kept us awake even after our requests to lower their decibels or take their business outside 5.breakast is very ordinary which we thought is common in Egypt 6.only positive is we did not spot a cockroach, rat or a lizard Had to take time out to mention this to fellow travellers ! One of the worst hotel rooms I stayed in my life so far and thankfully it was only for one night.

The worst hotel i ever stayed in my life. I will never stay in there anymore. Not good facilities with expensive price. The room is dirty. No water in toilet. They said they need to repair it. But the whole day no water without saying anything. Dirty curtain. Some broken facilities. They dont even vacum or sweep the floor or carpet.

Amazing hotel in the core of downtown Cairo 5 minute walk from history museum and Tahrir Square. The staff is super friendly and very helpful. The lady who does the cleaning and the breakfasts is always smiling and happy. And the young lady and young man at the front desk in the mornings and night is very kind and helpful. The room was very clean and spacious The bed was very comfy and soft Beautifully decorated bathrooms Free wifi and AC Hot water that lasts at least 30 minutes when showering and an elevator to take you up to the 5th floor. I would deffinitly recommend this hotel to a couple/2 friends or a solo traveler. Very affordable and very well kept hotel. Not noisy at nightime and it is a very safe area. Little store open 24/7 right outside the hotel and a 24/7 reception . (I got a stomach bug on my stay here and the young lady at reception made me a tea to help calm my stomach which was very appreciated) 10/10 A++ hotel

I would give them 0 if I could Warning ****** Stay away from this hotel worst people with zero hospitality and zero regards for guests , they are exremely hostile and vulgar. They have threatened to even hit me physically zero professionalism an I hope their licence as a hotel gets revoked , claimed they were managers when requested to speak to a manager , when they were indeed just receptionists scamming people this hotel is overpriced for non exisant hot water , and the bathrooms open from the too , all the while laughing and intimidating me and even snatching my babys food fromthe delivery man, When I didnt pay on time , for having an upset stomach I told them give me some time to pay they said you won't get the food till you pay. They began all ganging up on me as a group , and and claimed they couldn't "speak" English when they spoke English on the phone , worst people in the world EXTREMELY PETTY AND VIOLENT DO NOT COME TO EGYPT OR CAIRO , DIRTY AND PHYSCOPATHIC PEOPLE STAY AWAY ****WARNING**** Dirty unclean and no hy shower

I would give them 0 star if I could. The hotel was absolutely dirty, the water in the shower and toilet wasn’t working properly and the wifi wasn’t working either. The staff were kind but the hotel situation was very bad.

The manager tone and treatment of us (not kind/very poor) his poor cat who lived at the hotel and was popular with all the guests, was hit by a car or something and was left bleeding and when I asked the manager to help her he told me why dont I take her to the vet instead, which I did. Very bad experience! Shower did not work despite us complaining. Changed our bookings and rooms even the hotel location! Unprofessional staff!

The room in the hotel deprives you of your basic privacy. The building is very unclean. Room is very tiny with barely any place to walk and the bathroom isn't even a bathroom , it's open from the top and has no doors, check the photograph please. None of the facilities listed were given. No TV, No AC, No Fan, No view, No mirror, No service nothing. The good reviews that you can see are extremely deceptive

Very good stay. Excellent pricing. Hotel staff was extremely helpful. Mohamed the hotel manager went out of his way to help me with my travel plans. He helped me with all of my transportation from Cairo to Luxor and even from Luxor to Aswan. will stay here again in my next visit to Cairo. Highly recommended

Hotel Velvet was awesome! It was a good price. The staff were very kind and helpful. Breakfast was great! They helped us carry our bags, arrange taxis and Ubers, and organized tours for us. The hotel itself was neat. It is in an old Victorian building that has a lot of charm. It’s a bit of a diamond in the rough. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We would stay again! Thanks!

I booked only about 2 hours before arrival. The manager and Mo, the receptionist were beyond kind! They made sure I had exactly what I needed and even got me a complementary juice upon arrival. The hotel and rooms are very clean and modern. I got more than I paid for and would recommend Hotel Velvet 1928 to anyone. I will definitely be back!

Great location, very friendly and helpful front desk and good breakfast every morning. Close to all attractions in Downtown Cairo. There is a ton of eateries around, do ask the front desk about where to eat. Good value for money. Tip - Do tip the waitresses that serve you breakfast in case you're planning on staying more than one night. If not, their attitude and friendliness towards you will change the following day.

Friendly and helpful staff since day one. Breakfast is great and the service is awesome. WIFI is also very good, as well as the view from the balcony. I will definitely consider staying at this antique hotel every chance I happen to visit Cairo.

We were unable to book a hotel before arriving in Cairo due to lack of internet. We were therefore desperate for somewhere to stay. The only good thing about Velvet hotel was that they had a room available! The entrance should have warned us to steer clear but we were very tired and worried about not finding anywhere. The stair carpet was filthy and not fixed on the marble steps so care was needed to climb the stairs. The room was dirty. One of the curtains was in a heap on the floor. The bathroom had a permanent flood due to a faulty toilet. This made the tiled floor slippery. There were no towels but one (for 2 people) was finally brought. It was damp and we were told this was because it had come out of the wash….? ?? We were also given small shampoo tubes etc. they were dirty and looked as if they had been used by others. The chandelier only had one lightbulb working. We were told breakfast was from 9am but we had to leave before this to catch a train. As we left at 8am we were offered breakfast but by then it was too late. For all of this we were charged EL900. If I had had more time I would have asked for a refund. It is very centrally located but because of the street below is noisy. It did quieten during the night and to be fair we slept well. Avoid if possible!
