We visited this mosque today while visiting the citadel and it was amazing. The grandiose mosque with it's unique architecture especially on the ceilings is a testament to the rich Egyptian history. The entry to the mosque is free although you have to buy a pass to enter the citadel which cost 450 Egyptian pounds and there were no queues to enter and there are also no restrictions to entry for ladies. Highly recommended as this is one of the must visit places in Cairo city after the Pyramids and the museum.

Stunning structure. Beautiful views on the grounds, plenty of areas to rest. There are vendors at the doors trying to sell shoe socks but you can just carry your shoes around the mosque.

The father of modern Egypt deserves recognition, and this mosque, a replica of the blue mosque in Istanbul, is a worthy place for his mausoleum. Church architecture is incorporated into the design, note the stained glass windows, and the overall effect of domes and alabaster arches is outstanding.

Beautiful mosque worth visiting when in Cairo. Once inside the citadel, the visitor can see the city from above. At the time of writing (October 2022), the entry fee is 200 EGP. Additionally, inside the citadel, there are the police and army museums.

[my 1st mosque experience] The inside was sooo detailed & pretty!! This was something really common to see in Europe, I didnt expect to see it here. 200 EGP for visitors ($6.49 USD), or if you can show your student ID, 100 EGP for students ($3.25 USD). Before you enter the mosque, you will most likely pay 5 EGP ($0.16 USD) for plastic slip-ons for your feet/shoes/sandals. I stated “most likely” because there were 2 opened bags that had them for me & a few other people to use before the staff hid them.

The Mohammed Ali Mosque in Cairo is a stunning architectural masterpiece that should not be missed. The mosque is located in the Citadel and offers panoramic views of the city. The intricate design and decoration of the mosque are breathtaking and reflect the skill and artistry of the architects and craftsmen who created it. Visiting the mosque was a truly unique and spiritual experience. The peaceful atmosphere within the mosque provided a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. The mosque is also a great place to learn about the history and culture of Cairo and Egypt, as there are many interesting historical details to be discovered. I would highly recommend visiting the Mohammed Ali Mosque to anyone traveling to Cairo. It is a must-see for history and architecture enthusiasts, and is sure to leave a lasting impression on all who visit.

What a magnificent building. This is an active mosque and we arrived a short while before service was scheduled to begin. The attendees and our guide were welcoming and helpful in understanding the significance of the building and its history. It radiates with the humanity that has left the echo of their worship and caring in the very stones that make up this incredible worship space and surrounding area. Pictures hardly do it justice.

Ah, what an amazing place. Also known as Citadel, this was built on the left over rocks that were used to build the pyramids. Opposite of the Citadel is the the Military site. Fantastic views of Cairo City from the top. Entry fee of 200 Egyptian Pound for an adult and 100 for students. Tickets can be purchased onsite No queues.

Be aware: you can only enter this mosque by purchasing a $15 ticket for the whole citadel area, which isn’t very interesting besides the mosque. Mosque is beautiful but I would not pay $15 just to see it.
