Chinsura is the district town of Hoogly. In past it was a Dutch colony. Here a historical clock tower is situated at the junction of four main roads ( Ghorir More ) in the heart of the town. It is nearly 1 km from Chinsura Rly. Station of Howrah-Bandel rail route. The tower is rest on 6 ft square shaped moulded steel hollow pedestal . The mechanism of the watch is in the hollow pedestal. The square shaped pillar is with gradual diminishing cross-section to the top enclosure where the clock is placed. The top enclosure and pedestal is connected by four thin pillars . Corners of the top enclosure are connected to the thin pillars by decorated brackets. Four corners above the watch are decorated with four hanging chandeliers . At the top there is a open dome type structure. The impeccable patterns of the moulded steel clock tower is the great tourist attraction of Chinsura town. It was built in 1914 AD in the memory of Emperor Edward 7th.

This 19th century Gothic tower, imported by the British in memory of King Edward VI, is Chinsurah’s iconic landmark. Crafted in cast iron, its clock in working condition, Ghorir More, as it is popularly known, stands at the intersection of four important streets. The fact that this was an important nodal point even before the British advent in Chinsurah is apparent from 18th century Dutch maps of the town.

Rather we can call it "Heart of Chinsurah". It is a traffic rotary with a clock over it's island. It consists of 4roads of different directions. One meets Hooghly Imambara Sadar Hospital. Second meets District Court. Third meets Auto stand and Fourth meets Kharuabajar Police Fari. It is a huge market place for street shopping. So many garment shops, street food shops, resturants, hotels, jewellery shops, shopping malls are there. This place also have famous brands like wow momo, mio amore, sugar and spice, jawed habib and much more. Different types of transportation facilities are accessible from there. We can use roadway as well as waterway and also have vehicles to reach rail station like auto, bus, toto, magic car etc.

Ghorir more is the most prominent Landmark  of district town Chinsurah. The location is on the heart of the town. The clock tower was established in the year 1914. Four Clocks are there on the four sides of the tower and fitted with lamp shed to illuminate at night. Still it is in good condition and maintains time well. Presently the clocks are maintained by Hooghly Chinsurah Municipality. In the earlier period  when the town is developing this place was the main centre where the shops of different kinds, Restaurents, Cinema halls etc. are concentrated. Now the area of the market & shops are extended all over the town still the Ghorir More has not lost but increased its previous glory. As it is a 'more' or junction the sides may be described as, on the south Judges Court and DM Office, on the east Auto Stand, Head Post Office and Ferry Ghat, on the north Bus Stand and District Hospital and on the west Police Line, Kharua Bazar, G T Road and Chinsurah Railway Station. Some time the east side is used by the political parties for small and medium size public meeting, some times cultural activities also arranged here. Lot of Govt. Offices, Banks, Restaurents, Showrooms, Large and small shops, Hospital, Bus stand, Auto stand etc. almost everything is present surroundings this place.

This is the centre of the beautiful old Dutch town of Chinsurah. Approx 500 m from the Ganges, one can feel the vibe of the town at this place. Well lit and nicely maintained, few of the hotspots surrounding this clock tower are Banerjee cabin and Hindu hotel for delicacies and homely meals. There is a confectionery shop too. Not to mention dozens of local clothes and other small scale industry products are all sold around this hotspot. There is an open space at one side of the clock tower where political hotshots cry out their well versed speeches to woo the citizens. There is a milk parlour for the dairy lovers too. Roads connecting important logistic points like the railway station, the ferry ghat, bus station, auto station, roads connecting all important district government administration buildings and those to inner lands of the town all converge at this grand spot. For all of us citizens of this town, this grand old clock tower holds a place dear to our hearts.

This clock tower was installed in 1914 to commemorate the life of Albert Edward (King Edward VII) who was the eldest son of Queen Victoria and Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. This city was built by the Dutch. When the British overtook the city,The Tower Clock was shipped into Chinsurah by the British to commemorate King Edward VII. A fascinating piece of art-work, it still stands at the heart of the town with its four clocks fully functional! To the locals, the Ghorir More is more than an emotion: it's the heart of the city where you can shop everything from garments to shoes , crockery to make-up varieties. It's also the centre of food-loving Bengalee: from Biriyani to Momos and South Indian thalis, you'll get everything 😊👍

A prominent landmark in Chuchura, Hooghly area. Well connected with bus, auto & E-rickshaw with other places in the district. Nearby judicial courts, police commissionerate, district hospital, LIC office and many more important entities have increased the importance of this landmark. Narrow roads, no specific parking area, unauthorized parking of two-wheelers, auto & E-rickshaws will not allow any comfort to travelers. Don't miss Fish fry & Mughlai Parantha at Banerjee Cabin if you land at this place.
