Gorgeous setting, great for photos, but I would not stay here again. The room was dirty and smelled damp, there was lots of dust and the furniture was old and worn out. The only electrical outlet was in the bathroom and the WiFi didn't work. I understand it is an old historic building, but it could be a very nice hotel if a little effort were put into modernizing some of the facilities.

It's definitely not a chain hotel! A thrilling historical, enchanting experience. Highly recommend for at least one night and reserve a suite with terrace. The view for morning coffee and evening wine is spectacular. The rooms were tired -- very tired. There was an odd mix of classical art and Wal-mart art. The lobby and other areas of the castle are worth touring. The grounds are gardens were ill-kept, which was especially disappointing considering what wonderful structures they have to work with. Room service was "not available," nor was there an option for vending machine or ice. I walked across the court yard to the restaurant to get beverages. It was inconvenient, but the weather was nice for a short walk. The next day room service was available "just this once." The coffee and pancakes were perfect. Would like to see room service as a standard offering. A great place for weddings, celebrations, and photo shoots.

On Wednesday, December 1, 2021, my husband and I arrived here in Guanajuato for a romantic honeymoon and we were really looking forward to starting off at Hotel Castillo. When we checked into the Hotel and got to our room, there was a very strong odor. Upon further investigation of the room, we noticed multiple stains on the bed sheets and the TV did not work. We went to the front desk to ask them if they could move us to a different room. She walked us over to a "suite" and upon initial review it seemed to be at our satisfaction. Once we started getting settled, my husband went into the restroom and saw a big cockroaches When I went to inspect the restroom, I saw an additional one and one next to one of the beds. We immediately packed our bags and left the Hotel. Talk about a horrible first night to our honeymoon. Thank you

We arrived at the hotel after staying one night elsewhere in Guanajuato. Although majestic on the outside, it is very run down and unkept on the inside. We were unable to open our door as the door handle was broken, the staff forgot to give us towels, and overall the maintenance of the hotel should be at a higher standard. We were lucky enough to get a room with a terrace, with a spectacular view, but with only one seat, we must take turns relaxing, lol. When I went to the lobby to get my door handle fixed, another couple said their sheets were dirty, and another lady didn't have a functional hairdryer. The pool area was ok; the solar heater broke down, and it was not fixed, so the water was quite cold. There isn't an ice machine or room service or the ability to take the food to go. The staff was friendly, and we spoke with many of the groundkeepers. Worth the trip once.

It's definitely a dive. 4 rooms layer we still had no cold water in bathroom sink. Shower leaked, no hand towels or mat. Staff tried but could not improve on decrepit. Check my photos for more detail.

Literally just a bed. This motel is just for looks, and just on the outside. Rooms were clean but seriously lacking in every other aspect. Zero amenities minus running water. Bathroom needed some major fixing with everything. Not even cable TV (fuzzy antenna). Nicer hotels that are in the city center for cheaper and closer to everything.

We enjoyed our stay here. Be aware, reserving a room through a third party will be hundreds of pesos cheaper than getting a room at the front desk.

The rooms are outdated. I stayed in a double-bed room, and the mattresses were too firm. Also, the room does not have a Smart TV as the last night I was there I just wanted to sit down, relax, and watch some Netflix, but I had no choice than to watch local channels. The rooms do not have any amenities such as a fridge nor a microwave. The restroom sink had a very strong foul smell, which it carried over into the bedroom as there was no vent in the restroom. Lastly, they do not offer an ice machine, so I ended up buying an ice chest and went to the local store for ice to keep my drinks cold over night.

If you are looking to experience a day in a castle it's worth it you get to walk the hallways and the towers it ls a great experience, the beds are comfortable but the rooms and everything has not been taken care of it looks old inside of the rooms and needs lots of maintenance.

*This is a visitor review, NOT A LODGING REVIEW* Hello tourist! Castillo de Santa Cecilia as a visitor spot, is an interesting place. As of Jan 2023, they still let you park and walk around the property without having a reservation or being hosted in there (before 7pm, or so they told us). The place itself is a HOTEL purposely built as a medieval castle (formerly an estate residence). The property is big enough to "feel" like a castle, and the outside walls look and feel medieval (they are made of real stone, not fake disneyland-ish stone). The garden big and well maintained. You can get to the top of the front wall through the tower stairs. The interior halls are a little bit more modern. There is a central hall exhibiting a number of sword replicas, medieval armor and shields, as well as a scale model of the whole property. Overall, the place is great for sightseeing, especially if you've never been to a medieval castle before.

It's a cool place to visit and experience what it's like staying in a castle, however it lacks. On the hotel part it needs a lot of work. It is very old and it is not well maintained. AC didn't work, TV were very old. Beds are very old. WiFi didn't work. I wish I had it would have had more castle like features.

It was a really great experience, the location was great, views were excellent! the CRM were good in general, but need more parking lots, need to fix and/or upgrade doors, bathrooms, and maybe the room (floors, etc.; those were great with the castle topic but this just is a personal opinion). in general my visit and Cena Romantica were great!

My room was big and slept 4 adults. The staff is very friendly and gave us great service. Wifi is included and the food was good. My only complaint was that my room's shower leaked water onto the bathroom floor. PS: the castle is haunted by a few ghosts but they are friendly.

A quick summary: The toilet had a leak. The toilet handle did not work. There was a loud pump that went on every ten minutes all night long. One jacket went "missing". It was inside the room's closet. Lack of basic services such as phone, soap, and remote. Save yourself a bad time. Do not visit this place.

The rooms ruin the whole experience, they are extremely dirty . This was my bedroom . The outside is pretty .. I can recommend just go to eat something to their restaurant to take pictures if you want pictures.

This was a wonderful experience for me. In all my travels in Mexico and the US,and Europe I have never stayed in a castle. The grounds and architecture are absolutely beautiful. The staff was friendly and helpful. There were areas; some furniture and upholstery, that were a tad shabby and needed to be redone or replaced but for me, it did not take away from the charm and experience. If you are looking for a Hilton hotel experience, this is not for you but we loved it.

Such a beautiful place with so much history. The bow from the tower was great. Very nice chapel and the entire ambience was great.

This beautifully constructed historical hotel was recommended to me by a Mexican friend, "as we want to stay here when we visit Guanajuato," but unfortunately this hotel is better off as a tour or museum. It is ranked 3-star, so don't expect more. I had to negotiate basic services like my first room was a the castle dungeon--dark, no windows, an odor and not the king suite I prepaid for. They were slowful to accommodate my short-term knee disability with a room accessible by less stairs or to help me with my one carry-on suitcase up/down the stairs. There's more disconnects, but you'll have to tune in to our Behind the Scenes vlog/podcast for that. In summary, the service is apathetic, unattentive, the hotel is not well maintained and you must bear with a 16th century odor and a roach or two.

We shared suite B with our 3 granddaughters who dressed up as princesses for the occasion. They loved being in a castle, especially one that had a playground and pool! However, as lodging goes it's a tired and run down place. We found someone's underwear under a bed. The shower was only warm, and our mini split AC did not cool the room. It's worth a night for kids to enjoy, The place could be an amazing destination...We hope new ownership or investment will make it a magical place for families to enjoy!

I’m going to be completely honest. It’s old that’s it and the staff are trying their best with limited workers for such a huge place. The staff is so nice and they really want this hotel to continue. We knew coming in what to expect. The owner is older and he is not putting the maintenance the hotel deserves. So expect the hallways dirty, furniture dusty, lights flickering, toilets not working, and stains. The rooms are old thus appear dirty but I ran a Lysol wipes over many things and it was clean! My recommendation stay at the castle for one or two nights for the unique experience. Then move to a hotel downtown with better location and more upkeep. Enjoy the unique experience and be open.

I had a bad experience in this hotel. Everything went well the first night but after coming back from my tour the second day my money was missing. I left 100 dollar under my pillow in my room and they were gone when I came back. The manager said the housekeeping (2 ladies) staff will never do something like that and called me a lier. After I call the police he agreed on paying me half of the money ( $50dollars) back in August. Still haven’t received anything…. Just be careful leaving your stuff in the roomssss

The place is beautiful, would have been perfect except the beds and comforters are old, like ancient.
