There's a reason why they call it pyramid of the sun because it gets really hot in that area. I highly recommend bringing an umbrella to give yourself some shades because it's really an open space with rarely a place to keep you cover. Also bring a water bottle or two to keep yourself hydrated you will need it once you make it on top of the highest pyramid. There are several pyramids to climb, but the main one is the big one and after climbing the big one I'm pretty sure you will be tired to climb the other small ones. Also, wear comfy shoes and light clothes.

Breathtaking. You can take a bus from Mexico bus terminal. It's 120 pesos for a return ticket (around 10$CAN) and the bus leaves you at the pyramids in 1 or 1,5 hour depending on traffic. Look for the Teotihuacan bus company at the bus terminal. There are many busses every day.

A stunning piece of ancient Mayan history. The architecture and design that they built this with is incredible and they truly were ahead of their time. This is an incredible site to explore and learn about the history. If you can get a local guide who knows the history it is well worth it as they can explain some of the truly fascinating aspects of the area you may not find out about exploring on your own.

As of September 2023, you CANNOT climb any of the pyramids or ruins. They are all fenced off. HIGHLY RECOMMEND to go when they open (beat the crowds and the heat). Bring water, sunscreen, and a hat! I put sunscreen on before I left, but highly recommend to reapply while you are there! You do not need to purchase tickets ahead of time. Personally, I am not a fan of tours, so I opted to go on my own. I saw a lot of people with tour guides who provided information and history. If this interests you, then book a tour. On my own, I was there for about 2.5-3hrs. I can imagine, going with a tour guide would take longer LOL There is a museum that is indoors and there are informational plaques you can read.

On a high school trip 54 years ago, I was fortunate to visit Teotihuacan, a fascinating historical place, on a par with the Egyptian pyramids. While there, 6 or 7 of us decided to climb the Temple of the Sun, now more commonly called the Pyramid of the Sun. I understand today there are hand cables to assist your climb, but then there was nothing, just as it had been back in the Aztec’s time. You climbed at your own risk. It was quite challenging. The higher you climbed, the taller & narrower the stone steps became, with increasing hazards of large cracks & weather-worn holes. They became too high to easily step up or down, requiring use of hands & knees. On the upper tiers, in an effort to prevent turning an ankle or falling, it was slow going. With nothing to hold onto, if you fell who knows how far you could go before stopping, not to mention probable injuries. It was steep. Upon reaching the top, the reward and sense of accomplishment was worth every bit of effort and difficulty. To this day, I am so glad I can say I did that. So, if you can, go to this magical place, learn about it’s intriguing history, and if you can, climb at least one or two of the pyramids. It will gift you with priceless, cherished memories for a lifetime. Also, I don’t know if it’s still there, but we ate in a very nice restaurant located in a grotto, somewhere close by, possibly on the same grounds.

Beautiful place full of history. Must see, if you visit Mexico. Be aware, that during Corona time, they unfortunately won't let you go up. It is a shame, but it is what it is. More the reason to come back one day. Of course there are many locals trying to make living with sales and there are really a LOT of them, most offering the same things, what look exactly the same. But the place is amazing. Closes at 3:30pm.

Go to the northern bus station, tickets to the pyramid are like 180 pesos, it’s an hour long ride, the bus person will say pyramids (but in Spanish 💀) get off, and walk towards the pyramids, tickets to get inside were 90 pesos. And enjoy the historical space. Don’t steal rocks or try to climb them, go with respect and enjoy the opportunity to see them. When you’re done, leave the pyramids and wait on the side of the road for the bus that is going back to the north gate.

A must see site if you are visiting CDMX. It is about an hour and a half outside of the city by car. I went as part of a tour, but renting a driver or public transport are both options. It is literally breathtaking seeing the pyramid for the first time, it is hard to capture just how massive this structure is in pictures. You can not currently climb the pyramids because of COVID guidelines (my tour guide thought the government might use this as an excuse to permanently stop tourists from climbing them to prevent damage to the structures, I am sad I missed the opportunity to do so by a few months if this is indeed the case, but it is understandable from a conservation standpoint). There are vendors scattered around the grounds selling souvenirs at reasonable prices, but you could certainly haggle down most of the prices a bit. There are no bathrooms on site, so go to the one near the entrance. The entrance fee is only $75MXD, they are currently taking temperatures before the ticket gate as a result of the pandemic.

This is an awesome place to visit and see a little bit of México's ancient history. The pyramids are well preserved and the area is very nice to visit. There's plenty of parking and if you go near closing time there is not a lot of people so you can enjoy the views in calm. I loved this visit, i was with my daughter and wife, we had a great time

A must-see!!! We hired a private guide (very reasonable prices) who drove us to the site and led us through the pyramids. Although we were there in December sunscreen, hats, and good walking/hiking shoes are a must. There are many stairs and uneven walking paths so if you’re like me just take it slowly and you’ll manage it well. The site is amazing with all of the pyramids and palace. Most of the site is original and some is reconstructed so you can really see what it was like when in use. We loved it!

This place is amazing. Definitely was on my bucket list. Life changing is an understatement. I spent the whole day just enjoying the views. You can get back and forth from Mexico City with the bus system. Very cheap and convenient. You can go on a tour or roll through solo. If you are going solo don't forget your selfie stick. ?? Don't skip the museum. The history makes the views more enjoy able. There are little shops around the Pyramids. Some vendors take USD and Mexican Pesos. I will definitely come back one day.

You should know before you take a trip out there, all the temples are closed. As in the whole complex has a fence, with gates, guards and patrolled by police. The closest you’ll get is about 100m to one of the smaller ones. All this because of the dangerous covid inside the massive open air park. If you want to visit you’ll be greeted very closely by 100s of souvenir salesmen outside the fence desperate to sell you anything. Talking to the guards, they don’t expect it to be open before April.

The most powerful energy I felt on the entire grounds! Ruins are open but you still can’t climb them as of September 11, 2020. However, it’s still worth it to go!! Tip: hire a guide at the entrance (check if they’re certified first); we got Lalo, who speaks English well. It’s so worth it and you learn WAY more than just exploring on your own! And bring tons of sunscreen and snacks! Even with the pandemic stopping us from climbing the ruins, we still took 4.5 hours!!

(Translated by Google) It will always be one of my favorite places! The residents say that it has been a tradition to climb to the center of the pyramid with the intention of making a wish, receiving cosmic energy or presenting their wishes or their loved ones by raising their arms in gratitude to the cosmos for a favor previously received. The cost of entry is 75 Mexican pesos and on Sundays it is free to nationals, in times of COVID it remains closed to what you can find the guides saying that they take you to strategic points (if you bring a car you can only go around it). . When visiting Mexico, you must see the pyramids. I suggest to come early to avoid the crowds. This place is also wide and without any shade, so be prepared to walk and climb. Bring plenty of water, snacks, a hat, good walking shoes, and cash (for entrance fees and souvenirs). A bathroom is available next to the botanical garden, as well as one near Templo de los Jaguares. Because of COVID, we weren't able to climb the pyramids, but you can climb Templo de Quetzalcoatl. Taking these steps in a zigzag pattern feels faster than going up them in a straight line. If you are hungry after exploring the pyramids, you can eat in a cave at La Gruta. Make reservations in advance to ensure a seat. Lastly, we were able to utilize Uber to travel there and back to the city. Happy exploring!

It’s a fricken pyramid!! What a cool place to see in person, how they make them is beyond me. Make sure you checkout the museum on the property and definitely walk all the way around the pyramid of the sun. Unfortunately they won’t let you go to the top anymore. We took the bus there and an Uber back, I’d probably suggest just getting a car both ways, it’s was around 300 pesos. Cellular service isn’t great when you’re there, so maybe walk towards the town when you want to leave. We had some decent food at the restaurants by the front gate, both had ice cold beers🥳

Absolutely breath taking. I had the privilege of seeing it from above in a hot air balloon and again on foot shortly after. You cannot go in side or anything but the views are majestic. It's surreal being on a site that spans hundreds and hundreds of years old. The whole site, which includes the Pyramid of the Moon, is out of this world!

Would recommend getting a guided tour, makes everything much more interesting especially if you’ve been to the Museum of Anthropology beforehand. The pyramid of the sun and moon are beautiful must see architecture. Sadly post covid it’s not possible to climb the Sun or Moon. But there is a third temple that you are able to climb.

What can I say, or add, that others may not have stated already? If you appreciate history and archeology in particular, this is a place setting aside a full day's worth for is highly called for! Don't get hung up on the salesy stuff, that comes with the territory, focus on your personal take aways seeing the accomplishments of people's that have come before us! How magnificent their undertakings have been, and for how long they stood the test of time.

This is the largest pyramid in the Teotihuacan complex. The site is about an hour ride away from Mexico City. It is an amazing experience to see this place. These pyramids were not burial grounds like the Egyptian pyramids but were a place of worship for the Teotihuacan people. Please visit the Teotihuacan Museum when you visit this place. You can get a lot of information about the civilization and see the artifacts that were discovered in the site. Teotihuacan was built around 200 -100 BC. The civilization was abandoned around 600 AD. I visited the place using a touring company from Mexico City (Tekpan Tours). It is important to have a knowledgeable guide when you visit this place. Also visit Pyramid of the Moon, the Pyramid of Quetzalcoatl and the housing areas for the Teotihuacan people located in this complex. The site is big. Take your time and enjoy the place. You need at least 4 or 5 hours to see this place nicely. Do carry water and a hat to get shade from the sun.

A must visit site. About two hours drive from Mexico city, parking is a bit of a challenge and you should leave for the Pyramids early or you risk: - not finding a good spot for parking (although they have many parking spots) - Having to line up to climb the pyramid of the sun - And competing for many many people to take a picture (see pictures below). There is a couple of museums to visit in the site. The Pyramid is a bit hard to climb, the steps are high but surprisingly I saw many ladies in high hills who managed to climb it (this shows dedication) most likely for a perfect and attractive (but very non-practical) social media picture. Also take your shades, sunscreen, hat and plenty of water (it gets really hot!)

Beautiful place and lots of areas to visit. Unless you get a guide you will probably not visit everything. And if you don't get to visit everything, you will enjoy the areas that you visited. Keep your tickets until you leave the park. Don't buy the 4 wheelers or from the vendors around the pyramid(unless you definitely need to). Just keep in mind that they will charge you a lot. If the vendors give you a price and you don't like the price, just shake your head and tell them what you think is worth. I normally offered $200 pesos, less than what they wanted. The silver the vendors sell is not silver(it's too shiny). There is a store near the museum that's located on the other side of the pyramid. (You will need your tickets to enter the museum.) The store does not have a lot of the things the vendors sell, but it's more reasonable. The park itself is huge. Bring some tennis shoes or comfortable hiking boots and lots of water. There are dining tables, so you can bring your food and enjoy the time with your family.

I really recommend bring with you water, sun cream and get a guided tour. It will explain a lot about the pyramids. We took it after the balloon ride from volaris. And it was like 500 pesos each on English tour at the time we traveled in 2022. The whole tour was like 3 hours and we visited 2 more turistic objectives.

This is a tourist you must see destination when you are in Mexico City. Sario estrenado el primer humano en tocar you want and it's one of the main cities of Aztec empire. You can get a tour guide right there at the entrance or you can book the tour beforehand I highly recommend the balloon tour you do have to wake up very early but the views from above are worth it.

Pretty much a "must see" when visiting Mexico City. We hired a driver to take us there/back and a tour guide with knowledge of the site. It was nice not being in a group and the drive to/there is pleasant. I'd say a guide isn't absolutely necessary, but it was nice to get information on the history of what we were looking at. We were also able to walk from the south end to the north end where the driver picked us back up. There's no shade and the sun beats down hard. There are various vendors selling their products. We bought a few things that we didn't see at the markets in the city. Bring lots of water.

Alright yeah, you need to pay this thing a visit. 3 hours should be enough. There isn’t much information available around this historical place, neither on-site, nor online. Even though we didn’t go with a guide, I doubt that would have been particularly useful. Going early was nice, as we were alone at least for a while.

Amazing place. Get a guide and get there early for the best experience. We had the place practically to ourselves when we arrived and climbed Pyramid of the Sun. It's a steep climb towards the top with very narrow and tall steps. A few hours later, the pyramid was packed full of people attempting the upward climb and standing on the summit. Being surrounded by densely-packed tourists definitely would NOT have been the same special experience we had.

Very beautiful place! This is great area with multiple pyramids that you can climb; the largest being the Pyramid of the Sun (the second largest is the Pyramid of the Moon, but they don’t allow you to climb that one). The view on top of the pyramids is also breathtaking being able to see for miles; great for photos. There are also a lot of venders at the bottom that sell you little souvenirs, from medals featuring the Aztec gods to stone masks to obsidian knives.

The experience here is absolutely astonishing and my second time back. The historic sites are well preserved and has plenty of restaurants/souvenir shops. The admission is well worth the price 80 Pesos ($4). The only down side is you can't climb the top of the pyramids or other sites due to Covid until next year. But don't let that stop you, theres plenty to learn and see!

But the first one is bigger, higher and with a greater difficulty of ascent and even descent. (Original) Uno de los lugares cercanos al DF y que podría catalogarse como de visita obligatoria. (Translated by Google) It is a place that should be on every "must see" list when it comes to traveling to Mexico. The buildings show beautiful buildings and are impressive with their size and the number of buildings there. It is the cradle of Mesoamerica. The Highest Pyramid - The Pyramid of the Sun is accessible and accessible to tourists. If someone decides to enter, it is worth being in good shape and having plenty of water, because the journey to the top is quite tiring in full sun. After reaching the top, we will see a beautiful view of the rest of the pyramids and buildings. It is a place worth recommending and spending more than 3/4 hours on it. This was back in late 2017 and I happened to have time and review all the places I have been due to the covid. It was such an incredible place and experience! I decided to book a tour cause It was my first time in Mexico. The guide was really helpful and it's not scary as you think if you're a solo traveller you still can do it as long as you're always alert yourself. There is also a lot of history behind it too!

I like it and nothing to add except few constructive critics. 1. It's 2021, time to sell tickets online via viator and not just fronts face and via cash only. I spent 6 euro in atm charges to pay cash only for this visit. 2. Cartels in front of the monuments are completely white, I have Google to fet info but time to replace them 3. I had a solo visit and, as many as other visitors, I was lost about the way to initiate the visit. Time to put some narrows. 4. Best part (the climb) is forbidden for covid reason. We all use elevators, taxi and tram. They are not closed and I dont see the difference, just put a gel before the climb to be extra safe. 5. They are +5 sellers for each single tourist inside the archaeological area. A bit disproportionate.

This place is awesome. Don't miss it on a trip to Mexico. I recommend you bundle up because you will get a lot of sun, also i recommend you come early as it's a very long complex with the quetzcotl and moon temples being far enough. Also there are stands and sellers everywhere selling wares so you can find something to take back anytime but the prices are decent. Also there are a ton of places to eat everywhere some not as good as others ... I recommend you either find somewhere busy or visit my personal favorite quetzcotl restaurant in the "comida típica" área if you follow the signs on the road. Also the temple is awe inspiring, there was definitely more than meets the eye here but it's already breathtaking to see what's left.

Very nice Pyramide of the Aztecs in the north of Mexico city.. it's easy to reach by yourself by bus from the bus terminal north.. see my photos.. don't forget to put sun protection there is almost no shadow.. if you are hungry and you want to make a nice cave lunch experience go to La Gruta 😊😊😜

It is amazing. I’d recommend to get a tourist guide as there is nowhere to read anything about them. There’s usually official tourists guides available at the very entrance, just get enough cash as the card machines do not have good signal there. It is hot so bring your spf, a hat and enough water, there is no much shade to hide from the sun.

What an awesome experience! This place was amazing. Unfortunately, we arrived later that expected. We had about an hour with 5 kids to see everything. We didn’t get see everything and need to go back. It was amazing to sit back and really wonder what these ruins were used for hundreds of years ago. This place was clean and had quite a few vendors to get souvenirs.

The pyramid of Sun is located on yhe northern lpart of the complex and is one of the main pyramids. Visiting the area will give you a chance to experience what life may have been during the prime of this place. Though there are many vendors in the area, the pyramid is incredible to explore.

The main attraction in the entire archeological site. One of the largest pyramids ever built, by any civilization. Always crowded with tourists scaling it and snapping innumerable photos. Its ok to go up, but its a long way and there are no railings, i have seen people gasping for air half way up, so be careful!

I was lucky to have visited Teotihuacan when climbing on the pyramids was allowed. Being able to get to the top of the pyramids for a panoramic view of the surrounding heightened the appreciation of these structures. Awe inspiring. However, I agree that in order to preserve these amazing sights, we need to minimize human trespassing.

Very good place to visit if you're in the area in my opinion it was better than ChichenItza I think if ChichenItza is a wonder of the world this should be too because it's simply much bigger and there are 2 big piramids in the area. There were so many ruins and stuff to see and it's not crowded at all in the mornings. You can also go up in a hot air balloon and get a very good view of the temple from above and a view of the city which is not so good but the hot air balloon is extremely expensive but worth it because it requires a lot of manpower, about 12 people in total and with breakfast, the cost is 180 dollars. I think it is better to go without a tour beacuse my tour guide gave us 3 hours to explore the place and it only requires 1 hour. You should take you're time to take photos and explore because there are is a lot of photos to take and things to explore.

Good one day trip. Cost details Entry-90 mxn per person Parking - 40 mxn It’s better to reach this place in the morning because of 2 things. One you can able take some good photos without much crowd and you’ll also see many hot air ballons flying all around the pyramid. The view is awesome. And the second thing is the sun it’ll be hot and you’ll not find any place to hide 😅 We reached the place around 8 am and it was a pleasant experience overall.

This is a great place to experience a lot of culture. There are many folks selling trinkets at the bottom of the pirámides. If you wait long enough they'll usually drop their prices significantly. The biggest downside was the amount of people there. We waited in line for about an hour to get to the top of the big pyramid and then another 30-40 min in a line that circled around the top to get back down.

The only thing we didn't luke was the fact that people would ambush you and try to sell you everything, even if you told them no they would insist. Be careful if you take children some of the people will approach them and place bracelets on their hands to make you buy them... other that that it was amazing

If you want an uncanny experience go to Teotihuacán. It is a rich and strange adventure. The site is vast so prepare to walk a lot. There is no shade so wear a hat and bring suntan lotion. The day before the visit I asked an Uber driver in Mexico City if Uber was a good way to travel to the site. He said no because you won’t find an Uber to drive you back. So I arranged with my hotel for a cab that would drive us there, wait 3-4 hours and then drive us back. There are two museums; one with a scale model of what it looked like about 500CE, and the other is full of murals. There were no crowds when I visited in January. But check out the pictures on Google Earth - there can be a very long wait to get to the top of the Pyramid of the Sun during the high travel season. If that’s when you’re there go early.

The Pyramid of the Sun is the largest building in Teotihuacan, and one of the largest in Mesoamerica. It is believed to have been constructed about 200 AD. Found along the Avenue of the Dead, in between the Pyramid of the Moon and the Ciudadela, and in the shadow of the mountain Cerro Gordo, the pyramid is part of a large complex in the heart of the city.

A must visit and beautiful site . About two hours drive from Mexico city. Undoubtedly this is a magical place so full of intension and certain charm. You can soak in the culture of Deprespanico and learn about the wonders of all ancient civilizations. This is definitely not to be missed in Mexico City. The Pyramid of the Sun is the largest structure in Teotihuacan, and the second largest in Mesoamerica. It is also the third largest pyramid in the world. The original purpose of the Pyramid of the Sun is unknown, though archaeologists believe it originally had an altar on top of the Pyramid. Therefore, it most likely was built to honor a deity. Unfortunately, looting over the years has reduced the material available for study.Teotihuacan is the name of a Mesoamerican indigenous civilization and its grandest city, once the largest city in Mexico. It is the tallest building in ancient Mexico, near a huge square, folded in a ladder and built a very steep step directly ahead.

I mean, what can I say, stunning! It is very hot & dry, so make sure to bring water. Also the stairs are narrow & tall, so be careful!

The pyramids of the Sun and of the Moon are great. Unfortunately, you cannot climb them anymore. Trip to go there from don't town Mexico City is almost 1h45. Bring your sunscreen. Better to visit early to avoid many tourists buses.

If you are visiting CDMX, do yourself a favor and hop on a bus from from the northern terminal, spend a paltry 60 pesos, and experience one of the most fascinating sights you will ever see. This architectural wonder has seem visitors from scores of empires, would-be conquerers, and all the forces of “progress” that mankind can muster, yet it outlasted them all. Steep yourself in the views, the history, the architecture, the masonry, and the paintings. Make sure to trek ten minutes north of the Avenue of the Dead to the museum, where you can see frescos and murals removed from the site by archaeologists (included in the price of your ticket). This is a definite must see for any person visiting Mexico!
